TLDR: I am a new mom who was turned away from this salon because I brought my baby…read more I'm new to the Portland area and had Adele recommended to me from my old stylist back in Phoenix. I just gave birth to my son 2 months ago, and since we're breastfeeding, I'm unable to be away from him for longer than a couple hours at a time. I had no idea the salon was up a flight of stairs, but luckily a gentleman in the store below was kind enough to help me carry my stroller up. I opened the door and introduced myself to Adele, who was alone in the salon. Adele promptly informed me that she was "unable to have anyone but the person getting their hair done" in the salon due to COVID - referring to my two month old baby. When I explained how I'm unable to be away from him due to nursing, she again reiterated the rules and said if *he* were the one getting his hair done and I was accompanying him, that would be fine - but because it was me getting my hair done, I was not welcome. I left in tears, and the gentleman who helped me with the stroller helped me back down, while agreeing that what happened was unacceptable. This is the first time I have ever encountered a baby falling under "additional people" regarding COVID regulations. Kids under 5 aren't even required to wear masks most places. It felt much more like she just didn't want to deal with having a baby in her salon. I'm not sure what rules she was citing (the salon's? Does Portland have a rule like this in place that I'm unaware of?), but it was incredibly disappointing to be turned away like this. This salon is not "kid friendly" as they claim on their listing, and I would not recommend it to any new parents looking for a safe place to be rejuvenated for a bit.
