This is a modern cafe with a bright and airy interior filled with pleasing natural tones and textures. The indoor space is small but there is additional outdoor seating in the courtyard behind the cafe. I liked the many chairs scattered around the cafe (although almost all had hard surfaces and no back support). This seemed like more of a get your drink and go rather than a hang out and chat kind of spot. There wasn't anyone studying or posted up on their laptop on the saturday afternoon that we visited, although there were a few outlets near the tables inside. The menu is small but well-curated and has a good selection of tea drinks, which I prefer over coffee. I appreciated the extensive alternative milk and different sweetener options. The drinks were lightly sweetened (they got it just right, in my opinion!) and had just the right amount of tea and milk (if you've ever experienced an overly bitter matcha latte, you know what I mean!). The matcha tiramisu surprisingly didn't have any coffee flavor and just tasted like a matcha latte with an extra creamy cold foam and biscoff cookie on top. The hojicha latte had a subtle, nutty flavor. The basque cheesecake had a great texture that was rich and creamy but not overly heavy and not too sweet. came here for a cute popup collab with joah brown and it was amazing! they had a special collab drink (cherry cheesecake matcha) and cherry cheesecake! the matcha was surprisingly very good even though I was skeptical at first but I could feel the real pieces of cherry in there which I really enjoyed! the cherry flavor wasnt overwhelming or artificial and it allowed the matcha taste to really come through so I loved that! the joah brown portion was also super cool - they handed out a tote bag w a hat and coupon for their shop and had a rack of clothes samples! loved discovering this shop through this collab everyone working (olive & James staff + joah brown staff) was super kind and although there was a hugeeee line at the beginning, they managed to handle everything smoothly! the drinks came out pretty quickly as well considering how many people were there and I really have no complaints! def coming back to try their reg matcha lattes now! read more

Olive& James Café offers a beautifully aesthetic location with unique Matcha and coffee beverages to choose from. The handful of times I visited this location. I have tried the following items, tiramisu latte, blue coconut Matcha, matcha latte, lavender latte and the famous cheesecake. Each item was uniquely curated for the drinker as well as very delicious. I particularly really enjoyed the tiramisu latte as I believe that's one of their most popular items. Each time that I was in this location, I was also helped pretty quickly as well as getting an order very fast. I wouldn't let the line turn you down from coming in as it goes pretty quick. Giving this place 4 stars overall. I stopped by for a quick grab-and-go and ordered the tiramisu latte. Was it good? Yes. Was it the best tiramisu latte I've ever had? No. I probably wouldn't order that specific drink again, but I'd definitely come back to try something else on the menu. They are a little pricey for the amount you get. I also want to give them major credit for their customer service. I accidentally left my Oura ring in the restroom and didn't realize it until much later. I called after hours, and they were incredibly kind and told me they had found it and would hold onto it for me. Having to drive back out wasn't exactly fun, but I really appreciated their honesty and kindness. I went back the next day and they had it at the front for me. I tried this matcha hotspot while having a spontaneous day off with one of my friends and it is your average LA trendy cafe being that it's on Melrose. I ordered a Regular Matcha and thought it was unique compared to most coffee chains in the city. The matcha flavor is more grainy and bitter than what I am used to and the average sweetness is low! Since I like matcha without sugar, it was nice for my preference. If you like sweeter drinks, you might not be a fan. Also, the cups are small so it's a more of a mini sweet treat. It's small with limited seating. 2 tables and 1 long bench so I wouldn't recommend to come and hangout or work. The menu has a variety of yummy looking matcha and coffee options. I opted for the tiramisu matcha with oat milk it was recommended in the menu. The drinks are very cute and aesthetically pleasing. For a sweet tooth girly like myself, the drink was not sweet enough. It had very minimal flavor besides the matcha although I had it sweetened with honey. Maybe it is a good option for someone looking for a more matcha flavor. I came by for a quick breakfast before a workout on a rainy early Sunday morning. More likely due to the rain than the time/day of the week, O&J was empty. I imagine there is usually a large line in the AM, there is limited exclusively indoor seating. Metered parking on Melrose exists but I'd recommend the free side street parking and walking over. Stopped by this location because they did a collab with a fragrance brand and I was blown away with how good their matcha was. The space is a bit small, very little seating, so you may want to grab your treats to go. Staff wasn't that engaging but they do answer your questions about menu items. What's so great about this is it's so small you can see the baristas make your curated drinks right in front of you! I ordered their berry matcha and it was heavenly. Creamy earthy matcha with a sweet thick creamy Berry soft top, topped with a fresh berry and dusted matcha powder. This drink was the perfect balance of earthy and sweet and I thought about this matcha all week. I hope they plan to keep this on the menu. Such a cute spot to stop by for a drink and a little LA matcha moment. The vibes inside are 10/10 with Japandi decor, lots of marble, neutral tones, and an overall zen aesthetic that makes the store feel calm but still very Instagram-worthy. The ladies working were sweet and nice, giving their recommendations on sweetness, syrups, and making good convo. They also have a jar for dog treats so dog parents can grab one! I ordered the blue coconut matcha latte with vanilla syrup and it was so refreshing and perfect on a hot day. The only downside is the cup size... it's definitely on the smaller side, but that's just the LA standard now. There's mirror that's perfect for selfies and a little photo booth setup similar to the one at ROK in Ktown, which makes the whole place even more fun to hang out in. Olive & James was on my list for so long and I finally got the chance to try it earlier this month during my LA trip. Upon arriving, I absolutely loved how the cafe interior and decor looked. They also have a little photo booth or camera set up which was pretty cool! We ordered the Blue Coconut, Matchamisu and the Tiramisu Latte (all iced). The drinks were SO pretty but flavor wise--it was lacking and I've tried a lot of matcha drinks. Even though the matcha was a beautiful vibrant green, the oatmilk overpowered its flavor. I enjoyed the cream top more than the drink itself. Service was average. The cashier that helped us wasn't so welcoming or friendly which was unpleasant as someone who was visiting this cafe for the first time. We also came during their popsocket event which was unexpected but I thought it was so nice of them. My sister and I ordered separately because we couldn't decide on a drink at the same time, so I ordered first. Our parents arrived after they found parking so, we ordered their drink afterwards. While waiting for our receipt, we noticed the cashier whispered to the other employee and then proceeded to tell us that they ran out of the popsockets. Even though we were patiently waiting for our receipt...I then saw them give out more to the people behind us. We were not at all expecting (nor did we want) another popsocket whatsoever and would much rather hear the truth :) The main reason I came to this cafe was because I wanted to try their drinks after seeing their photos and reviews on Yelp. I was walking by and I noticed his coffee shop and I caught my attention. Craving some coffee I came in and asked for their vanilla latte. I am a big fan of cheesecake. And I noticed they had a picture of a cheesecake that they offered. I could not say no. And I am glad I didn't. The cheesecake was so creamy and tasty. I was in cheesecake haven't. It was a bit pricey, but I think it was probably worth it. I wanted to eat it all up in one bite, but I had to take my time and enjoy it. The latte was good, but I don't know I was overpowered by the cheesecake. Service was great very friendly helpful. They made you feel at home. They did have a selfie camera where you could take a picture with your friends and the print out right then in there. I saw a couple of girls using it so that's pretty cool for them. They had good music playing in the background which helped me enjoyed my coffee and cheesecake. It was very relaxing. I discovered Olive & James through one of their recent pop-ups, and I'm so glad I did. We tried their matcha and instantly fell in love. The flavor was incredibly smooth and perfectly balanced--not too bitter, not too sweet. Today is my only day off so instead of going out I decided to stay in my pjs and had my children pick up a Blue coconut matcha and a slice of the divine Basque cheesecake to take home for me (since it's what I've been craving since my last visit.) Everything I've ever ingested from Olive & James has been extremely excellent. The quality of matcha used is superior, and the taste of their coffee beverages are equally superb. The cheesecake is reminiscent of my short lived time in Basque, España, and is a must have whenever I go. While I didn't personally experience service in the cafe today, my children were impressed by the aesthetic shop and were happy with the complimentary photo component in the store. Came here with a friend and tried a couple of their matcha drinks. He ordered the Blue Coconut Matcha and I got the Tiramisu Matcha, both with sugar-free vanilla syrup, and mine with oat milk. The Blue Coconut Matcha is clearly the star for a reason--it was refreshing, well-balanced, and delicious (8.5/10). The Tiramisu Matcha wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't compare (7/10). We were also completely influenced by the Basque cheesecake sign at the counter and ended up sharing a slice--and wow. I'm not usually a big sweets person, but I love custardy desserts, and this one was incredible. Rich, creamy, and decadent without being overly sweet, with a slightly burnt top that added so much flavor. Truly excellent (9.5/10). There's limited seating inside, but we managed to snag a spot. The décor is super cute (Japandi-esque?), and I loved the little photo setup that prints pictures on receipt paper--such a fun, thoughtful touch. Just okay. For the size of drink and price, it's not worth it. I had the hojicha einspanner while my partner had the matcha einspanner. We ordered 50% sugar, which sometimes can still be too sweet for us, but it was as if there was no sugar in the drink at all. If you love that, this is ideal for you but compared to the market, I recommend ordering 100% if you want to taste sugar in it. There's limited seating inside with a cute photo print station.
