A wonderful assortment of pastries in a great location close to the train station. In the summer they had tables and chairs outside. I'd compare this to a nice French bakery in Paris. Great coffee too with friendly staff. read more

Delivery service is non-existent. I ordered thru their website at 2:06pm. I got a text message at 2:16 pm that my order was order was delivered, but it was not my address. I called the bakery and they told me that my order is still there and they're waiting for the driver. I called again 30 mins later to check the status of my order and they said, the driver is not there yet. After a few minutes they called back and asked me when I'm coming to pick up the order? Apparently, their driver never showed up. They could've told me that when I called them an hr ago. I asked to cancel the order, but they told me that they cannot. I paid for the delivery fee and a 10% tip, and I still ended up driving there myself, paid for parking, to pick up my order which was supposed to be delivered. I asked to get reimbursed for the extra fees I paid, but apparently, the manager is not there. This is not the way you should do business. You should not even advertise for delivery if you're not able to fulfill it. Very poor customer service. read more

Came here for the first time for some pastries for a dinner party I was attending and it did not disappoint! Everybody loved all the pastries and it was packed up so nicely too. The tiramisu was my absolute favorite and I'm craving it right now as a matter of fact. Also, loved that there was enough parking on the street and in the back. The ambiance and decor was very nice. Also, I walked in I had to compliment the staff on how clean it smelled. (yes I'm particular and notice stuff like that). Very happy with this bakery! I ordered a couple of lattes and 6 pastries. The cannolis were fresh and delicious. The bombolone Nutella donut thing was amazing. Oh just stop it Mattarello! Why do you have to be so good? Seriously...this bakery is amazing. I don't love Italian pastries by nature but this place has elevated the usual overly riccoted vibe of other Italian bakeries. I tried, yesterday, the St. Josephs bread which sent me reeling and lobster claws. Don't get me started on their jelly donuts and sfogliatella. Lovely owner and clean, clean establishment. So happy to finally have a close by bakery that is super delish. And I hear they do free delivery if over 25 dollars. read more

Tried for the first time today and wooooooo delish! Got the lobster tails, this donuty thing with cream, these clam looking pastries, and an iced espresso drink! Everything was so perfect! The staff were incredibly helpful as you can see by what I ordered I have no idea what the correct name for the Italian pastries are. The place was super clean and well lit! Just wow! My husband and I had gotten back from a trip out of town after which we felt like we needed something real "Jersey." Immediate thought cannolis! We were passing by this bakery, which I am assuming is either very new or very hidden, but regardless, we were so pleased we went in. Let me start by saying the staff was super nice! We were overwhelmed by the options so asked many questions, and they were not the least bit annoyed. They allowed us to mix and match so we added a Nutella donut onto our order. We were licking our fingers by the time we were done. I also think presentation in a small bakery like this goes a long way, so they cute red tables outside and the pretty cups and plates helps make you feel like you're paying for an experience and not simply a to go donut bag. This bakery is bright, clean and inviting. My friend Biagio, suggested that I come and try the many delicious pastries and cookies. I had a very hard time choosing what to try. The cannoli were among some of the best. Crispy shell and not over sweet filling. The lobster claws, filled with Chantilly cream, were nothing short of spectacular. The pistachio filled cream puff was amazing. I promise you, that you will not be disappointed with anything you get from Mattarelli's. It's a great cafe to stop off for a cappuccino and a pastry. I walked into order a cake for my wife's birthday and the menu advertises 6" cakes but they don't have them already made. You have to call and order ahead of time. Highly inconvenient. Additionally I asked for a strawberry mousse cake and got a strawberry chocolate ice cream cake that tasted like carvel. Especially when my wife and I dislike ice cream cake. Was supposed to get a call back from the manager when I called in to disclose my issue. No phone call. Don't recommend this place. read more

In the past, I had enjoyed their chocolate mousse cake. This weekend I decided to try something new, and was recommended the strawberry-chocolate mousse cake. I was a advised to leave it out 1-2 hours before service (which I did). The cake literally tasted like an ice cream cake from ShopRite. I mean it looked very nice, but it was poor. This place serves out of this world good pastries and drinks, but after I ordered a cake, I read some negative reviews here about people's experience with cake orders, so I was worried about the cannoli cake I ordered for my daughter's birthday. I worried for nothing. Cannoli cake can be too dry, but this cake was so airy and moist, the filling was smooth and creamy, and the whipped cream icing so fresh and light. My only criticism was that the cake wasn't ready when I arrived at the store and the owner had to leave to get it. But the cake was so good, this oops wasn't enough to affect my five star rating. My second time experiencing bad customer service. Clearly- employees who take orders over the phone need adequate training. I placed an order a week prior for a Lg. Chocolate mousse cake to be picked up on Christmas Day 12 noon. I also offered to pay for my order prior and was refused. We went over my order including name phone number etc. prior to ending our call. Unfortunately- this establishment is unable to deliver the goods!!! Christmas Day I arrived to only find out they didn't have my order and misunderstood what they believed I ordered was "individual chocolate mousse cakes", which they had NONE of either. I was livid and floored by his response. I asked to see my paper order and noticed the confusion and hesitation. The paper clearly had "Lg. Chocolate mousse cake" written on it with my name and information written by him. Mattarello Bakery failed to deliver- and had me waiting 45min. on Christmas Day, while you went to a sister bakery to get another cake. Stop blaming Covid for your poor service and empathetic excuses which have nothing to do with you properly executing and taking an order over the phone precisely. Excuses are for losers, this is becoming a habit for your establishment. read more

My 8 year old son wanted a vanilla filled white cake with a cream cheese frosting , and of course we wanted the 12 inch cake inscribed for his birthday a week away. This was the only Bakery (including two Whole Foods) in and around Montclair that would make it. I went in for a cake and they were actually sold out. I was told it's a good idea to try to order two days in advance for a cake. I ended up with a couple of cannolis and really enjoyed them.
