Great Pizza, Great Sauces, Easy Pickup Mattenga's Pizzeria on 46 in New Braunfels has become one of my favorite spots for an easy, reliable pizza pickup. I love their pizza and all the unique choices they offer. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The location is close, which makes grabbing dinner super convenient. Their dipping sauces are my absolute favorite part. The Mattenga's Ranch and the Texas Ranch are both so good, and they pair perfectly with our usual orders: the Honey Bexar and the Classic. One thing that's a little strange is the pickup experience. When I pick up, they always show me the pizza before I pay, which I appreciate. But when my husband picks up, they don't show him the pizza, and we've ended up with slightly burnt pies because of it. A little consistency there would make the experience even better. This turned out to be an OK pizza. I think it could've been better, like if it had had more toppings. The picture on their website compared to what I actually picked up was not the same. The picture on the website shows a lot more pineapple and pickles and bacon. When I bit into this pizza I wondered if it had any bacon on it at all. I realized eventually that it did, but it's not evenly dispersed around the pizza but rather in clumps. The crust had no real character. It had no flavor, and was not salty or sweet. I would order again, but maybe not this particular item. Oh, also, when I picked up the pizza the guy at the register asked me my name and when I told him, he asked if I meant Desiree. This is a really solid pizza place, but, like, it's good for people on a low salt diet. Everything was pretty good but bland. I've literally never put table salt on my pizza before but it really livened everything up and made it great. Maybe the chef just forgot the salt in the dough today (I've done it, too) or maybe they really do cater to those eating heart healthy. But some spice would kick it up a notch. The margarita pizza had a nice basil flavor, and both crusts had a great puff, crunch, and chew. If I still lived here, this would be my new pizza place. The staff are LOVELY. There are pizzas and then there are REALLY good pizzas in our neighborhood. Mattenga's is really good pizza. This is a small pizzeria, great for pickup and great for a small 2-4 person group or enjoy the patio for larger groups. Everything is fresh made to order, all the way down to the vegetables and cheese - literally the cheese on that pizza gets shredded that morning, the fresh tomatoes and the vegetables are sliced that morning. We love that we can get a 20" pizza or a small Friend-size pizza. Plenty of topping choices and house made dipping sauces for the salad, wings and pizza. Would love to see a thin crust and maybe a gluten-free option. Their pizza boxes are always fun! read more

We have pizza once a week and wanted to try a new place. We ordered to go a large antipasta salad and a small pizza pepperoni and green peppers. I was told 20 minute wait, got there in less than 15 minutes and my order was ready. Staff was friendly. The large antipasta salad is enough for 4 people. Very generous on the mozzarella cheese, lots of lettuce, a bit too many sliced green olives than what I wanted and not as much salami and Canadian bacon or artichoke hearts I was hoping for. Nevertheless, an excellent salad. Several dressings you can choose from. The pizza was delicious. Next time I'll ask for less olives in the salad and try one of their menu pizzas. Talk about excellent service from Noah and the gang! He gave me recommendations and I got to sample the sauces and left out with four large and a small! Great food! Had the pizza rolls and a 20inch pizza. Nice amount of toppings, good chewy New York style crust. The staff was friendly and very solicitous. There is a soda machine and there are tables. However, no plates or silverware (not even disposable) so be prepared. I would classify this a a great take out place, but recommend you keep it at that. read more

Delivery driver Hope was wonderful! Unfortunately, the representative who took my order lacked empathy. I was told my pizza would arrive within 30 minutes, but after waiting 40 minutes, I called to check on the status. I was informed that the driver hadn't left yet and when I asked if my order was forgotten, I was told they were swamped with orders. Instead of an apology, I was simply asked if I still wanted it. My kids were really hungry, and this disrupted our plans for a movie night and sleepover with friends. Additionally, when the pizza and wings finally arrived,(2 hours later ) they were both cold. I was very disappointed with the $60 I spent, especially since I expected better service and quality. I will stick with Papa John's ! cheaper , faster and great customer service ! My new favorite pizza place in New Braunfels. I have been twice already. Both times my family and I have ordered breadsticks and a family style pepperoni pizza. The ingredients are fresh, the breadsticks were amazing. The pizza resembles a New York style pizza. The staff has always been friendly, and the pizza was on time as promised both times. A word of caution though. When using the online app, it tries to default to Schertz. So beware. One time I placed the order and it when to Schertz. Highly recommend Mattenga's. Well it looks as though this is going to be another uncomfortable review, due to the 5 star ratings this business has received. We specifically tried this place because of the ratings and reviews from friends. We decided to try the Calzone and Mattenga's 16" Molto Meat pizza. Both were fair at best. The Calzone had no flavor and was real doughy The pizza didn't have much flavor either. Sad to say, but ! have had better pizza at the local, cheaper "delivery pizza places". Without saying names, one starts with a D, PJ and PH. The service was good and employee was friendly, but it was definitely not worth the $34.00 price. We definitely have no need to try it again. Especially since, upon ordering and picking up the pizza they repeatedly suggest a tip. Tips are for wait staff that wait on me. I ordered the pizza and I picked it up. We won't be going with them and I didn't even try the pizza. I was their only customer at 12:30 PM. I ordered the two topping lunch special pizza and requested an additional topping.
