Tonight my boyfriend and I decided to stay local and had dinner at Matteo's. My ketel one martini was made exactly as I asked. We had the calamari and clams as appetizers, both were generous portions and both were delicious. For dinner I had the grilled shrimp over vegetables. My boyfriend had the pasta with meatballs. Visited last time as a party of 4. One member in our party is in a wheelchair, the restaurant staff was highly accommodating. For a Sat. night, they were packed but took time to help with ramp getting in and out of restaurant and into the car. We ordered the stuffed artichoke for an app, delicious! We ordered Veal jr, Chicken Matteo's and Linguine with pomodoro for dinner, all superb. All staff were very nice and not sure why I've read reviews saying different. Always a great meal but currently a limited time lobster special that is delicious & should not be missed! Service was a little spotty today, absolutely no wait staff at all in the dining area for 10 minutes at a time. A little hard to fathom with so much staff. This place is the worst! The food might be good... but to have reservations and to wait 60 minutes & still not be seated... ridiculous. The host was horribly rude & did nothing to help. PERFECT location for our friends reunion yesterday! The wait staff service was very attentive & engaging. They really took care of us ladies! This was my first time at Matteo's, so I will write from my experience. [Noted food snob here] I must say, I am still thinking about the dishes served. That's HOW GOOD it was! On our table for the sharing, which the server portioned out to each of us. The Matteo Chopped salad, (too chopped for me - but the others in the group loved it) Grilled Chicken over Escarole & Beans - Delicate and flavorful. Chicken Francaise - just right. Burnt Broccoli - so delicious Hand Made Fusilli (perfectly cooked) Amatriciana (pancetta, sweet sausage in a pomodoro sauce) - This is still on my mind. That's how wonderful tasting this dish is. ORDER IT! Anthony, the General Manager is a true professional with great customer service. Pros: Food was good and plentiful. I ordered the Chicken DJ (1/2 plate) which was delicious and still had plenty leftover to take home. Cons: Dessert...Italian Cheescake tasted like it was once frozen. Biscotti cannoli cream was nothing to talk about; very disappointing. IMHO this is a so so Italian restaurant. I have been to the restaurant twice but have had take out/catering from here on more than several occasions and I have to say, not overly impressed. I must have ate here on a off day because everybody around us was sending their plates back. The food was still good on my end besides the pasta. It was a little soupy but we kept it and enjoyed it that way rather than dry. I would 100% recommend this place to anybody for a nice quiet night out. read more

Great food here hands down the best dishes are the stuffed long hot peppers and the veal junior it's veal in a lemon white wine sauce with hot cherry vinegar peppers with fresh mozz, and a toss of breadcrumb. Absolutely delicious. Had a large party tonight and they took care of us well. I thought our waiter was very good. It was busy and he got the whole order correct and was an absolute pleasure. Be Careful- they over serve you family style portions then have to nerve to charge you for 3 or 4 dishes when you only ordered 1! I went to Matteo's for a bday with a large party- they were very accommodating and considerate even though 1/2 of our party was late. We ordered 2 full orders of baked clams (which were amazing) & 1 full order of tomato/ mozzarella for appetizers. For dinner we ordered 1 full chicken parmigiana (very good) & 1 full lobster fra diavlo which was a special (it was horrible, lobster was tough & chewy) When the bill came out total was over $1000! Anthony our waiter/ one of the managers said he made the portions large enough to feed the entire table, which is not what we wanted. Some people didn't eat everything and 2 people ordered separate dishes due to dietary restrictions. Instead of being charged for the 1 or 2 full orders we ordered, the waiter took it upon himself to put in 3 full orders of tomato/ mozzarella, 4 orders or chicken parm, & 4 orders of fra diavlo. Very deceiving, poor communication, and in the end he said he couldn't do anything about the bill. This place was the worst. We ate there with my grandkids. The waiter took our order and I did not see him again until he gave us the check. Water glasses stayed empty. No one around to order a beer. I was at Matteo's for the first time yesterday for lunch. The atmosphere is great. The service is even better and to top it off, the food was fantastic. Our server was the son of one of the owners, Anthony. He was very efficient and reviewed all the specials and was quick with the delicious bread. He actually served us our food onto our plates when the food arrived. We started with the fried calamari which was tender and fresh. For lunch I had Hand Made Fusilli (perfectly cooked) Amatriciana (pancetta, sweet sausage in a pomodoro sauce). Someone else had posted about this and said they couldn't get it off their mind. So, I had to try it. It was fantastic. I ordered a half portion and that was still to much for me to eat. I brought the leftovers home and my wife and I ate it for dinner too. She loved it. I can't wait to go back again. One other thing, I happened to run into Anthony the owner in the hall and had a nice discussion with him about the restaurant. He was totally down to earth and seemed to be a genuinely nice person. Put it all together and it's the total package. If I lived closer this would become my regular eatery. The experience at this restaurant was super odd. We were a party of 6 adults and 2 kids The waiter was impatient, he gave off a very annoyed vibe. When I complemented the home made sauce they have and asked a question about the sauce because i was interested in purchasing it, the waiter said he didn't know. He and the owner/manager made a face at each other and smirked which I caught. They did not at all make us feel welcomed at all. The experience was not the greatest and food was subpar. Great place to get ignored at the door by staff... don't bother, go elsewhere! We walked in about an hour pst opening and the place was empty. The "host" looked our way (party of 8) and completely ignored us as he took a call instead. We waited... and waited and he kept ignoring us and avoiding eye contact. No "welcome...how many?" Super awkward. Maybe we were wearing our invisibility cloaks? What a disappointment! Then I read their subpar reviews and understood why they were empty. I have been here multiple times. The food and service was always great. This USED to be one of our favorite restaurants. So much so we decided to have a small group of 14 have dinner there after our wedding. Even though I made the reservations one month in advance, they were clearly not prepared to serve 14 people. We made our reservations for 8pm, yet didnt sit down until 8:20. One of the maitre'd was very rude when we asked how long before they sat us. They sat us in the middle of the dining room, where it was very uncomfortable. The waiter was not attentive whatsoever and we ordered our food at 8:50 and did not get our dinner until 10pm. Although the food was on point, the service left much to be desired. If it was a regular dinner, I would have chalked it up as just a bad night. But since it was my wedding night, I give them no excuses for not taking care of us like they should have. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! read more

Best restaurant in the entire area of Queens. We ordered Sunday evening, they promptly delivered and amazingly.. it's exactly as if you were seated at the restaurant. Everything fresh, hot and delicious! The pork chop with hot and sweet peppers was perfect, the veal Jr., an awesome specialty dish ( veal or chicken) is fabulous. They even created an angel hair pasta dish with the Veal Jr. sauce. That dish is beyond words! We have been going to Matteo's for many years, dining indoors is very safe. Wow. One of the best meals I've had. We stopped by on a Monday night - didn't need reservations. Table of four; we decided on family style - the waiter explained everything. Not realizing the portions would be so huge we over ordered. we had the Chicken DJ which I highly recommend. We had four people and it came out in three super large pieces. Totally not an issue to cut up as it is family style and it fed four prob could have fed five. The crispy breading was one of the thinnest I've personally ever had. Like not doughy - it was super thin and yet tasty and all chicken. Just delicious. We started w the baked clams, main course on top of the chicken : asparagus and cavatelli as the pasta. This is my go to place for amazingly delicious Italian food. It's family style so be careful how you order because the portions are large. Take advantage of the 1/2 portions if you want to mix it up. I've lost track of the number of times I've eaten or done take out and they've never done me wrong. If you're not in the mood for Italian then try the porterhouse. Up there with some of the best steakhouses I've eaten at. From the appetizers to the dinners to their side dishes there isn't anything that's not cooked to perfection. read more

Instead of going to our usual favorite place in Howard Beach (Lenny's Clam Bar), we decided to try Matteo's. We were a party of 4 that always meets 1/2 way from long island and Staten island. We all agreed the food was excellent but the smoke that comes into the dining room from the outside is unbearable. Our throats were burning by the time we left. Management should control patrons smoking right in the front of the restaurant. We would love to go back but we all agreed that its offensive to have to smell smoke when you are eating. read more

I attended a baby shower here last Sunday. I enjoyed the chopped green salad with veggies served first. The pasta had 2 tablespoons of sauce on it and I pushed it aside. I have to say... the sausage served in our entre was outstanding! It was sausage with fennel and roasted to perfection. Everyone at the table was scurrying for it. Wish I asked for an order to go.
