We've had multiple wonderful experiences at CityVet, and every member of their staff has been truly exceptional. We have a 68-pound Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mix who is extremely anxious and reactive during vet visits. The CityVet team is always incredibly gentle and patient with her, and they never force anything that would increase her anxiety. They take the time to earn her trust and make each visit as low-stress as possible. Nail trims have been especially challenging for us, but thanks to Jessel, we were finally able to get our dog's nails trimmed without a muzzle or any restraint. Jessel was so patient and compassionate, making sure our pup was comfortable every step of the way. We honestly couldn't believe how smoothly it went. We're so grateful to Jessel and the entire CityVet team for the care, kindness, and respect they show our dog. It's clear they genuinely care about both their patients and their owners. We followed Dr. Heidi from a previous clinic, even though her new location is in the next town over. Her knowledge and love of animals are truly palpable. She takes the time to explain everything clearly and always finds the best solutions for your pet. She doesn't recommend non-essential tests or treatment. She will call you back herself if you have concerns or questions. One of my dogs is 14.5 years old and doesn't travel well by car, the Vet Tech Ben came to our home to give her the injection, he too was very kind and caring. Everyone--from the front desk staff to the doctor--is caring, compassionate, and incredibly helpful. 20/10! read more

Excellent care from Dr. Heidi Moore who we were happy to find is now the lead veterinarian at this location. She truly cares about our felines and is generous with her time, listens well to our concerns, and works with us to come up with an approach that is the best for our cats. They normally are so stressed at a vet, but once they saw that she was again the caregiver relaxed while she conducted her examination. read more

Pricing is a total scam. They first quoted me $350 for the exam and blood work, and the next price they presented was an $800 bill for exam, blood work, performed treatment, and prescribed medication. There was no interim conversation on what the treatments would cost (expensive and not critical), what the alternatives are, and what that would bring the total to. This is completely unacceptable in a veterinary practice. I will be returning to my regular vet, despite the convenience of this location. read more

Wishing Dr. Cole still owned this, now it's gone from animal personal care and exams done in the room with the owners and issues, concerns being addressed by the doctor to the pet owners. Now you sit, animals leave, Vet comes in, 3 minute rundown and 'pay up front', then leaves. Clearly on the clock of chain 'care'; Assembly line practice out of owner's eyes. Not a clue what the vet's name was, she was in and out that quick. I'm betting the techs did all of the work while she lamely came in with the rundown before leaving. Not much confidence they'll last, word was already out but had hoped it was just people adjusting; I was wrong. What a HUGE drop in quality from Dr. Cole's practice. read more

After a second surgery because of the first one leading to him building up fluids in his digestive tract we had left him for follow up care the next day and when we came to pick him up they told us "oh he's been great, you probably wont need to take him in tomorrow". Four hours later we noticed that something was wrong with his breathing and rushed to an emergency care vet where he sadly passed. I am baffled how something went unnoticed while he was in their care for the day, and disgusted by the mistreatment of my dog of nine years that led to his death, lastly I feel robbed and that it was unfair to him how he passed. read more

I moved to Austin from out of town with a former stray cat in tow, and experienced nothing but wonderful service from the entire staff here. They were professional and polite getting my information prior to my appointment, called to remind me of it, and then took wonderful care of my cat. Completely transparent about pricing, had treats available for sale but did not not force them on me, and I just received a personal note back. They were so kind and caring with my cat. Everyone is exceptional here. Everything is exceptional here. Dr cole, I believe is her name, is extraordinary. Twice she was able to accurately diagnose issues with my dog. The first was an issue with his back legs and the second and most recent was a diagnosis regarding his vertebrate and front legs. I went to an emergency hospital on 2222 earlier that day and the dr on duty was vague and unable to accurately tell me of any issues with my dog without doing an expensive mri, so she said. Of course an mri will needed to confirm everything but I was thoroughly impressed with dr cole's ability to accurately diagnose and then take her time to explain everything to me, TWICE. Although it was "only" a deep teeth cleaning, I'm a nervous mom. However, so far, so good! I have a service dog who I am VERY picky about who touches him and what their procedures involved. One reason I picked this doctor is because she does work with service dogs specifically in addition to the rest of her experience. When Aslan started crying when he came out of anesthesia, the Dr's husband sat with him to keep him company and allay his fears. Its little things like that, that make a HUGE difference in where I keep my business. Although Aslan is sitting next to me high as a kite and reasonably exhausted, he has not been hit as hard from the anesthesia as he has from other vets. The staff have been wonderful, friendly, and even let Aslan sit at the front desk for a short while to have some company after his surgery before I picked him up. The facility i s new and brand spanking clean! The prices for his cleaning were not cheap, but they weren't outrageous like they are just a few miles down the road in Lakeway. I like Dr Terrel well enough, but this new Dr seems thorough, respects Aslan's service work, and is only a brief walk or bike ride away from my home. Barring any unexpected unpleasantness, this is where I'll stay! I'll post updates with each visit, but hopefully my boy won't need to go here beyond his checkups! read more

We had to make the difficult decision to put our dog of 14 years down today. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Cole and her staff and this animal hospital. I made a ton of calls trying to figure out the right solution and I'm happy I chose them! We had an 85 pound Rottweiler who could be aggressive and he didn't show Any signs of this today due to the way they handled him and the way they talked to him. He was completely comfortable and they made a very difficult experience one we will never forget. I just moved to Austin and brought my fur baby Priya in to get her annual check up and shots. After some research I scheduled an appointment and from the first email I received to walking out of the office it was a very pleasant experience. The staff alone has been 100% the best I've ever ran into with an animal hospital. They truly care about the well being of your fur babies and wanting them to feel extremely comfortable. I've never had a place do such a thorough check on my dog and I really appreciated it, being that my dog is 12 years old. You can tell that the staff really enjoys what they do and are super knowledgeable. I highly recommend them and will continue to bring Priya. She was given so much love, I don't think Priya thinks going to the Vet is so scary anymore! read more

Love this vet! I've taken my dog here a couple of times now. Most recently, he got in trouble with a cactus. I called the vet, which was closing in 15 minutes, and they told me to come over, I got there just before closing and they spent an hour getting the needles out of my pup! They could have easily told me to hit the 24 hour emergency vet instead, but they didn't - and they went home an hour late on a Friday afternoon to help us. I'm not saying expect them to stay open late - but this is just an example of what a wonderful, neighborly, and good team of doctors this is! If you have a pet and need someone to provide excellent care, look no further, this is the place. In our experience, Dr. Cole and her staff are nothing short of amazing. She has made a significant impact, not only in the lives of our puppies, but on ours as well. The breeder we choose really pulled the wool over our eyes when it came to her breeding practices and the current state of the dogs we were purchasing. As a result they have had a lot of health issues arise in their first year that needed attention - things we did not expect. Dr. Cole has been a rock for us as we nursed them back to health. When we first found out about all of this, she helped keep us calm and on course; she was always available for us to visit and she even took extra time when we had questions while examining the dogs. She has even gone so far as to take personal time after hours time to reach out to us, checking on the dogs after hours, sending emails on research she is doing about them. Whether it is via email, text or during a visit, she is great at explaining all of our options when it comes to the care of our puppies. I find her to be patient, caring, informative, and the dogs absolutely LOVE her. While it has been a long road due to the nature of the issues, some of which will never go away, they have reached a point where the issues that can be solved have been solved, and we are well prepared to deal with everything else moving forward. DO NOT GO HERE. This vet's negligence is the reason our family cat died. We had brought our cat in because we were concerned about his dramatic weight loss. She told us it was normal & he was perfectly healthy. After 2 weeks we were still concerned & brought him back. She says "Oh.. he's actually in acute kidney failure." If she had caught it soon enough we could have saved him. Their office did not offer to pay for the IV therapy or the euthanasia & because we could not pay for the therapy, we had to put my cat to sleep. She has also misdiagnosed not only our dogs but 2 other steiner families dogs. If you care about your pets wellbeing, make the trip to Lakeway. Do not come here. read more

What was supposed to be our first time at this place now will be our last. We made an appointment for our dog that was scheduled a week in advance. We load up the dog, get our sample, show up for our appointment and immediately we are greeted with attitude. The receptionist "Linda" tells us our appointment was canceled. I'm sorry what? You could tell she just wanted us to leave. I tell her that we certainly did not cancel our appointment. She then replied VERY PASSIVE AGGRESSIVELY and tells me "well we will just see you then." I tell her this is our first time here and asked if there was any paperwork we needed to fill out? This lady looked at me very rudely again and said "why don't you go get your dogs weight first?". I looked at my husband and his face was in shock with how rude she was. We decided to leave and take our dog somewhere else. The way Linda treated me I would never allow her to care for my animal in any form or fashion. Linda clearly needs to work on her people skills. Horrible and completely frustrating experience. I have been using the Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch since they opened during the summer of 2013. I have two dogs, one which is a senior and needs lots of veterinary care. I have found this practice to be the best I've used in the northwest Austin / Lakeway area. The clinic is brand new, spotless, and has state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. Dr. Cole is a top notch doctor who has been practicing veterinary medicine for 20+ years. She is knowledgeable and thorough as well as kind and gentle with my girls. The staff is friendly, accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. Prices are reasonable compared to other vets in the area. Now that I've found this vet, I will never go anywhere else. read more

I love Dr. Cole and her staff. She is experienced and caring and knowledgeable. She gave me great advice on my recent puppy search, and her and her staff are there for my myriad of questions regarding my new puppy. I especially liked when my large rescue needed anal gland surgery. She has a specialist surgeon that comes in once a month to do more unusual surgeries. The defender of this pet "hospital" is delusional, and the fact that she has now posted TWICE in defense of the same posting I made several months ago just goes to show it's on her mind, which, if she wasn't in the wrong about something, she wouldn't need to be concerning herself with to begin with (or she just has a lot of free time on her hands which, if you ever drive by their place on the way home and glance over at their deserted parking lot, will show that that is probably the case). My posting is now six months old- get a life, would 'ya? We went right up the road and had our dogs tested by someone else (a proven vet in the neighborhood who's been in business for a very long time) and the heartworm results came back NEGATIVE, just a few days after the Steiner Animal hospital people told us that it was POSITIVE- the doctor will try to not take responsibility by talking mumbo-jumbo about "false positives" and other such BS, but our dogs are perfectly fine, never had heartworm to begin with, even though this Steiner Vet said that they did, and by taking them elsewhere we avoided the huge bill the Steiner vet Hospital would have stuck us with for absolutely nothing, since our dogs never had anything wrong with them to begin with Regarding "my" negative postings let me just say that good reviews are just fine, and are sometimes almost as helpful as bad ones (but not quite, really), but when one uses a business they EXPECT good and professional service, that should be a "given", and that customer has usually paid dearly for the service to boot, even more reason to expect good/fair service- although commendable, it is not necessary to post about a "job well done", unless you feel particularly strongly about it or actually have the time. On the other hand, if you get the screw job like we got from these clowns it becomes almost a DUTY to come on and relate the bad experience, by way of warning friends and neighbors about a local business in OUR neighborhood that is far less than satisfactory. We were outright lied to by these people, guilt-tripped into a potential huge expenditure-for-nothing, and treated in a "take it or leave" it manner that made us run away with OUR beloved pets! read more

I came to Dr. Cole for a second opinion, after being told by a nearby vet our yr old cat had leukemia and putting him down was the next step. I am forever grateful to have reached out to Dr. Cole as not only did she find it was a mis diagnosis she has guided us through a different diagnosis treatment plan and has spent extensive time consulting with specialists regarding his rare condition. Our kitty is happy and recovering better than expected. She and her staff are wonderful and thorough. If you want quality and loving care from a passionate vet, look no further. I'm honestly on the fence about this animal hospital. I love that it is close to my house and the vet and staff were great with my dog. They really care about animals and you can tell by their interactions. The issue I have is a lack of organization or communication on their part. On the phone they were asking me questions like scheduling a heart worm test for my dog when he just had one done by them recently. I had given them all of the immunization records for my dog from a previous vet but yet until I asked about it they didn't seem to realize I had. Not sure how their computer system works but I would assume those things would show up in the animals chart. The final issue I had was after my dog had his updated vaccine visit. I get home and a few days later realize they didn't give him his bordetella shot which I had scheduled. I only realized it when the dog boarding/training facility I was trying to place him in alerted me. I saw three different syringes during my dogs visit and had confirmed the shots with the receptionist. I guess I shouldn't have assumed it was done properly and double checked. The weird thing is they could clearly see that all the vaccines that were scheduled were expired or about to expire. I'm not quite sure how it got missed. I'm bummed I'm now going to have to find time to take my dog back again to get the bordetella vaccine before I can take him to the training facility. read more

My family and I are moving soon and one of the many things we will miss about Steiner Ranch is Dr. Cole, Susan and her team kind, knowledgeable techs. I wish so much that we could take them with us to care for our dog, Biscuit. We were quite happy with our previous vet but after needing some care for Biscuit when our other vet was closed, we decided to just try Dr. Cole's practice- and we've never looked back. We knew from the first visit that she would be the one from now on to care for our dog. She makes every effort to get to know these pets that come through her doors and every time we see her, she gets right down on the floor to sit with him and make him feel comfortable. He had a very serious surgery a few months back and not only did it go extremely well, but the follow up care we received was top-notch. I feel like she walked with us through his entire recovery and went above and beyond help him. Most importantly, my dog loves her!
