This pizza was fine but nothing special. We ordered for a large group so I was able to taste quite a few of the different pizzas. The margherita pizza was probably the best, the sauce was really flavorful and it had a nice amount of cheese. The autumn pizza with a butternut squash sauce was very bland, it could've used some sage or thyme to brighten up/add any flavor. The amount of sausage on it was also really disappointing with only about 5 small chunks, I would've expected more given the price tag. Wouldn't go out of my way to eat the pizza here again, but no pizza is really bad pizza, so I would eat it again if it were given to me. read more

Delicious pizza from a food truck! We were picking up our race bibs for The She is beautiful race in Santa Cruz & they had a few food trucks available to try out. Daughter picked pizza of course. All sizes 12", options of mushrooms & sausage, Veggie, meat. We chose a pepperoni pizza. Not able to do half and half. They give you a device to pick up your pizza. Took about 15-20 minutes. I have distinct pleasure of being the first to review this awesome new food truck servicing the Santa Cruz area and beyond! My first taste came at Steel Bonnet brewery tonight and the pizza was excellent. My friend and I ate one (the Caronte), then another (the Sestola), then I took one more home to my wife. I'm a self proclaimed pizza snob and I loved what they had to offer... The beauty of a food truck is they can deliver to the ambiance, my favorite brewery with awesome pizza, YES! Owner Samuele came from Italy as a piazzolla and has worked locally at a premier pizza joint in the Seabright neighborhood. His recent exploit is this mobile kitchen serving up solid pizza's from a brand spanking new purpose built food truck and he calls it Mattia Pizza. My first taste was the Caronte, San Marzano tomato sauce with mozzarella cheese, handmade sausage, and spicy salami. I offered to share a slice to my friend and he quickly ate half that pie! The conversation halted as we both devoured that first pie but slowly came back around as we discussed (him) buying another pizza! Next we split the Sestola, San Marzano tomato sauce with mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, hand made sausage, and parmesan cheese. Once again it got quiet as the next pizza disappeared. So good, the crust is perfect, soft and gooey in the middle and crisp on the outside. Just enough toppings and sauce to bring the flavors out but not drown the crust. A perfectly balanced treat for the culinary soul! This was only my first experience with Mattia but I look forward to eating their awesome creations again soon. Tried it tonight for the first time - mediocre is putting it nicely. Waited probably close to an hour for a small cheese pizza - checked in halfway and was rudely shooshed away. Then when we finally got it - it was undercooked because they rushed it. How you take that long for the simplest menu item possivle then still rush it is beyond me. It's clear they forgot about the order and then wouldn't listen when we tried to remind them. Would never ever have this place again. We didn't even eat the awful pizza because it was so soft and raw still - please do not ever eat here or spend your money. The food is awful, and the staff is rude and actually cursed in front of children at the school event they were parked at. read more

Most importantly - the food was amazing and so gourmet! They set out the most beautiful charcuterie spread that had so much variety and fresh, high quality ingredients. The pizza of course was also delicious! The Gorgonzola, pear, and honey pizza was a crowd favorite. The food was plentiful, and they were so on top of replenishing the table with fresh, hot pizzas. Best pizza hands down. You can't get any better than this. Italy is in Santa Cruz baby! The crust: good pizza needs good crust, this crust is delicious. It's a nice mix of wheat and white flour. The crust is both soft but not doughy and crisp. Evenly cooked to perfection. The toppings are always fresh and on point. I love the ooey gooey cheese. Best pizza in Santa Cruz county hands down. My favorite is the autumnal which uses butternut squash sauce. This is a pizza truck, they bop all around, I usually catch them at one of the breweries in watsonville. Food is delicious! My only gripe is the only way they have to communicate where they are serving is on Instagram so if you don't have Instagram you're out of the loop. Mattia Pizza catered a 50-person event for me in October, and I highly recommend them for your catering needs! The food got rave reviews from my guests, and they were exceptional to work with. They were responsive to any and all questions, and completely dependable. Mattia was able to provide both gluten-free pizza crusts (with advance notice), as well as vegan pizzas. If you are a catering novice like I am, I would recommend a couple of things: 1. Think ahead about what tables, tablecloths and trashcans you need for the expansive Mattia setup. 2. Consider when to start serving and when to stop serving pragmatically, and align with Mattia in advance on those needs. People wanted to socialize before eating for longer than I expected, and some showed up way later than I expected. Mattia was wonderful and was able to flex for us, but I should have better planned it out myself! I would cater with Mattia in a heartbeat again! read more

Tried the Corante sausage and salami 12" pie at a local Brewery in Watsonville tonight, and who would have thought that some of the best pizza in Santa Cruz is made by Italians in a food truck! Prior to the event, communication with Letizia and Samuele was smooth- they were quick to respond to questions that we had, made recommendations about serving sizes given the number of people attending our event, and clearly described what they would need provided the day-of to ensure a smooth set-up. Their team arrived early and had everything prepared and ready to go around the time that we had expected dinner to be served.
