This is the second time I've had this place and it's quite tasty. I've added the most recent menu that reflects the current pricing. If you're ordering to pick up and paying with a debt card, they're going to charge you 75 cents, otherwise, it's cash only. They're very friendly over the phone and in person. I was lucky enough to catch them when they were not as busy today. There's couple spots in the back to park, otherwise you'll have to park on the street. The fish (catfish & sole) and shrimp were cooked perfectly for my taste once again. It has lots of flavor and crunch, none of that soggy stuff. Their fries are sooo good!! Not greasy or super soft, they're just right! Their food comes with white bread and their hot sauce is like salsa texture and really good. Not as spicy as I'd like for it to be, but because it has taste it does the job. I went at night and was still able to order items that read lunch menu. History is in the hands. When we people, whomever we are, know our history it comes through in the things we do and make. However as economic shifts and multiculturalism proliferate there is the potential for the loss of some of our cultural foodways. Matt's is located on Wilmington and magnolia in the city of Compton. Magnolia being the state flower of Louisiana and this being purportedly a southern fish market I had high hopes. Now don't get me wrong. The food was good. I ordered fish shrimp and oyster with hush puppies and potato salad. The fish was fried crisp, the batter was seasoned well and evenly coated. The fish was also fresh. Although far from the best the potato salad- it was decent. The hushpuppies however very good-dense and crisp. Though the food is good and made by the another cultures hand. Whomever taught the cook did an excellent job and the cook has done an excellent job picking up the processes to create this food. I still believe that cultures should maintain a steak and their food ways in order to preserve their roots. One thing I have to recommend to Matt's is they get some real hot sauce that fake salsa packet nonsense isn't going to fly it doesn't go with southern fried seafood. read more

Don't let my profile picture fool you. I've been eating here 30 years now. And they have always been A1. Great attitude and great customer service day in and day out. The food is amazing and consistently good every damn time. I live in OC now and make a regular trip to the CPT to grab a bite. I even put my wife on to Matts and now shes hooked too. Went here today for the first time and I was by far not disappointed. I ordered catfish, jumbo shrimps, and oysters. The food was seasoned to perfection. The fish was fried just right. Not to hard and not to soft. The oysters was fried extra hard just as I had requested. I had ordered double potatoe salad and it was just like I like it which is NOT SOUPY. This place has been around for years. We used to get fish here when I was a little girl, and as an adult I would go pick up the order so that me and my great grandmother could enjoy some food. The fish is always cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and goes into my belly perfectly :). I've never been a big fan of oysters but their fried oysters are absolutely delicious. I've been coming here for over 10 years. Their prices have gone up but I'm sure it was time. I love the fillet of sole and the shrimp is bomb too. What I don't like is being charged .45 for a lime. I was told his costs are going up for the limes so he has to charge us. If that's the case I wish he would at least provide us with juicy limes and not old limes that have no juice. read more

Went here to order one lunch $6.49 and two catfish dinners which is supposed to be $10.49 each was charged $10.99 why I was charged extra $0.51....Then there was an extra charge on the receipt for $1 I asked the man why was the prices on my receipt not adding up to what the menu prices he gave me back my dollar and $1.51 these people are ripping people off and if you don't ask for a receipt you will never know you're being charged all these extra hidden fees that's not on the menu it's not fair to the community or to the public...Also they're slicing the fish in strips which means you are getting less fish SMDH....NEVER EVER GOING HERE AGAIN!!!!! read more
