What a pleasant surprise! I've passed by this very plain, square, gray metal building hundreds of times, judging it by it's muted appearance. But I kept seeing 'Prime Rib Friday nights' on a sign, so I thought they must have something going on over and above the standard NE Oklahoma required chicken fried steak fare.... So today for lunch I stopped in to check it out. The inside is as square and simple as the outside - various formica topped tables and booths on tile floor, register up front, etc. So far nothing impressive. When the friendly waitress came with the plastic covered menu I started asking questions, and learned they hand-cut their meat there. She also said they hand batter their onion rings and fried pickles. And for their taco salad, they hand fry and form their tortillas into a bowl - none of this factory formed hard corn tortilla - they use flour tortillas hand formed and fired when ordered. I'll have to return another time for that, but I saw one go by on its way to another customer and it looked delicious. I took what I thought was a good gamble and ordered a batch of the pickles. You know how you go to a new place and order something that serves as sort of a bell weather indicator about the whole restaurant? This was the purpose for ordering the fried pickles. They were amazing, which is saying a lot because it's not something I'd normally order, but wanted to test the waters. The pickle slices had the crinkly edges which helps hold the batter, were thinly sliced small circles of about 3/4", and lightly battered. They were crisp and actually the best friend pickles I've ever had - most appetizer fried pickles come from frozen puffy batter with no flavor - this batter was light, and the snap and dill flavor of the pickles slices remained intact - amazing find! I ordered the Patty Melt and onion rings since the batter on the pickles was so light and airy. The sandwich came on Texas toast and perfectly grilled golden on the outside, with 2 hamburger patties with plenty of melting American cheese, grilled diced onions, and a sort of thousand island/ranch dressing that complimented it all. The onion rings had that light batter, were thicker cut, about an inch, but I simply took a fork and cut them in half, dipped in just a little ketchup, and gobbled them up. Delicious. Not the heavy batter on most, this is very light batter where you can still taste the sweet onion's light taste. I was full, so didn't explore dessert. But having sampled their lunch after having seen their sign for Friday night Prime Rib, I can say one Friday night in the near future I will drop by - Why then just 4 of 5 stars? Because the drab exterior and interior aren't equal to the deliciousness inside. The food is 5 for 5, so don't let the plain gray exterior fool you. read more

We were buzzing thru Grove on a road trip and happened upon Matt's. We placed an order at the drive up window - Monte Cristo with tots and club with onion rings. The cook and the waitress were super friendly, our food was delicious and the to go order was prepared quickly and brought to our car. The onion rings, yum...lightly battered, crispy and tasty. This was my nephews first Monte Cristo - he devoured it. Nice place and they serve breakfast and dinner. We will stop by on our next trip. read more

I had a great breakfast at Matt's place on a Sunday morning. I was fishing a bass tournament and didn't make the Sunday cut so I wanted a good breakfast before the long drive home. The wait staff is quick and friendly and attentive including management. I had full breakfast menu item ,2 eggs, hash browns ,bacon , and French toast and everything was perfect! I highly recommend it if you're ever at grand lake and want a good meal! They even got chocolate milk too if you'd like that! It's next door to The Turtle Stop gas station. read more

This is good basic diner type food. The restaurant isn't very large and it was crowded when we got there. I loved their onion rings! These were homemade. My daughter had a club sandwich and said it was very good. Our food wasn't very hot which is why I only gave it four stars. Our waitress was awesome and otherwise everything was great. I'm going to bring my husband next time so he can try their Monte Christo. read more

If you love a good home-style chicken fried steak with all of the fixings, you HAVE to go to Matt's place. They have the absolute best Chicken Fried Steak that I would put up against anybody else's. Also, the staff are all like friends and family. They remember you and it's nice to feel like a king when they all want you to sit in they're section. Went on a Sunday around lunchtime, so it was very busy due to the church crowd. When we walked in there was a big party ahead of us, but they sat us immediately. We got the fried pickles, chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans, and the chicken strip dinner with a side salad and green beans. Wow! Can I just say, this local favorite earned it's favorability with us! We had both lunch and breakfast on separate days. Lunch was during a non-peak time, and breakfast was on Sunday during peak time and both times our server, DAWN, was attentive, thorough, and very sweet. The food is amazing and the decor is simple but lovely. We loved looking at the prints on the wall that are for sale. The artist Shelley Graves really knows how to capture the beauty of the area.
