Tell me you don't want me to be here without actually saying, "I don't want you here." We've been coming to Grandmas for over 10 years, and it's always been one of those comfy, cozy places that just feels good. This visit felt really different. Today we brought family visiting from off-island after a walk on Thompson Road. We decided to stay and dine in instead of taking it to go. Looking back... maybe takeout would've been the better option. Ugh. I honestly hate writing this. The only reason I am is because I'm hoping someone from the Grandmas team reads this and actually cares enough to make some changes. If you don't know, you can't grow. Today our experience looked like this: * Watching several people get served after us even though we ordered first. Waiting for almost 30 minutes. * Our order getting mixed up and handed to the wrong person * Confusion about what muffins were available... okay fine, I'll take a blueberry muffin. Then halfway through eating it, I found a hair baked into it * Ordering potatoes without onions because of an allergy, having it made wrong twice, and needing it redone * Noticing the restaurant itself looked like it could use a deep cleaning, including ceiling fans with layers of dust And maybe this was just an off day, but the staff vibe felt... off too. Disconnected. Kind of cliquey. Like everyone seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving guests. The warm, welcoming feeling Grandmas always had just didn't feel like it was there today. As a customer, I honestly felt like I was intruding or inconveniencing the staff just by being there, and that's a really strange feeling in a place we've loved for so long. That's honestly the part that made me the most disappointed. We've loved Grandmas for years, which is why this was tough. They serve locals before tourists. Fact. For 45 minutes after ordering a sandwich, I watched several locals (easy assumption) order, get their sandwiches and leave before I even asked about mine. Myself and another guy it was happening to noticed and talked about it. I waited another 10-15 minutes, asked again, then ended up just leaving. Wasted my time and money. I had a delicious breakfast croissant with perfectly cooked and crispy bacon! We also got a yummy chocolate chip pumpkin bread! This place was very nice after the sunrise hike on Haleakalā. My friend got the hash loco and the hash wasn't cooked or seared, so it was the only not so good thing from there that I'd stay away from. The coffee was decent. We have been going here for years and it has remained consistent over time. The only difference is there are more people these days. I remember going here years ago when it was a lot slower. Still definitely worth the wait. On our last visit i ordered the chili cheese omelette with white rice and my other half had the bullseye that has white rice , spam, corned beef hash and eggs over easy. The service is good and fast for a small kitchen and the steady pace of people coming in they do a good job. This is one of the few places that remind me of what Maui used to be like and they have good food and good prices and it's still a locally owned business. I enjoy sitting out on tha patio and having breakfast and now they have music on some days. Definitely recommend stoping by if you are in the area. One of our favorite local breakfast places in Upcountry Maui. We like the Bullseye Breakfast. It comes with Spam but we order with bacon instead. It's shareable for those who don't eat big breakfast. We usually get one of the bakery pastries too. There are plenty of other options on the menu. They have good mocha here. Service is good. They are nice and friendly. You can sit indoors or outdoors. There is a small view of the ocean from one of the tables. Recommend if you are in Kula. They do not have a restroom. You have to go at the park nearby so use before after. read more

I absolutely loved this place. We came down from Haleakala after watching the sunrise, and I was in desperate need of a coffee. Grandma's is right off the main road in Kula and although is small, there is also an outdoor area where you can eat. The sounds of roosters crowing... even some live music outside... it was all great. The food was also very good. They have a variety of baked goods behind the counter and plenty of hot options. If you have all day to wait, this is the place for you. It is unbelievable that they have no pride in their work and it is evident in their mannerisms and service. I would have loved to give an awesome review on a locally owned place but they fell extremely short. The cashiers were both slow and confused. Took our order wrong. We waited 1 entire hour for our food, and we are still waiting. We had to constantly remind them again and again about our food. They would walk around and auction food off. The only thing that was good was the pumpkin cheesecake. I think what upset me the most is that their own workers/owners were making food for themselves (same food items as on the menu), and bring it out and eat it. So they could make the effort, but just didn't. Will never come back, and could never recommend. lol, honestly, they should let me use their bathroom since it's taking this long. I went to this quant spot with friends who live on the island. I ordered a BLT sandwich, which was delivered to my friend at my table (he'd ordered a Club BLT), after a long wait. He went to complain and then found out it was my order, delivered to wrong person. My potatoes came and was placed in front of someone else too. I never got the bottled water I paid for, at that point I was over it. I decided to buy one of the Banana Bread Loafs, as it looked delicious and was wrapped in surran wrap. I placed by loaf on counter to pay for order and went back to my table of friends with my loaf, sitting my loaf on the table. I notified my hand kept feeling sticky and thought maybe the table was dirty. I found out the source of the stickiness. The wrapping on the loaf was open on the backside, which means my loaf was exposed and had germs from counter and table. I didn't make a big deal, as I once had a small business. I was so excited to stop at Grandma's Coffee House after taking a gorgeous drive to see the views. We saw French fries on the menu, so I ordered and paid for them. It took forever for them to come out. When they did they were house fried red potatoes with onions and bell peppers! I sent them back, which took 20 more minutes and I explained to the waitress that I ordered French fries. She then said they didn't have them, even though they were on the menu. Why didn't you tell us then. So, she said they could make the red potatoes without any thing on them. She asked what exactly I wanted on them and I said a little salt and pepper. I told her I was allergic to all the other things on it: onions, bell peppers. When my new potatoes arrived, THEY HAD GREEN ONION ALL OVER THEM!!!! I had to pick the off. Needless to say, I am NEVER, going back. The service was slow, people who came in later got their food before us. They had no bathroom. I looked up to see the vents were crusted over with dirt. Grandma's is one of the best ways to start off your day on Maui. In the cold morning air in December, the patio is a bit chilly, so bring your jacket so you can enjoy the view and the sunshine. Make sure you grab a menu when you get in line because there are so many options to choose from and it may take you the whole wait in line to decide, as there are even more specials to choose from the boards at the front. Although slightly overrun by tourists now, the food is still ono and service is wonderful. This little hole-in-the-wall is worth the drive. Lots of food choices from meat to vegetarian. Coffee , from what I understand, is grown there and dried and made into coffee. It was smooth and low acidity. Pastries were good...and the banana bread with frosting was heavenly! My husband had the upcountry omelette and it was gone in no time. The sourdough bread has great flavor and that slightly "tough to tear" texture that added to its deliciousness. I had the veggie bagel sandwich. The cream cheese was oozing out of both ends and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. The team working was very friendly and helpful to us in making choices from so many options. This is the cutest place with fun history and art work, and delicious sweet and savory breakfast options! We had coffees, pog, loco moco, a giant pancake with chocolate chips and a basic breakfast (bacon, scrambled eggs and sourdough toast) before heading backside to Hana. We missed grabbing sweets like banana bread this time but highly recommend! I saw someone leave with a veggie bagel and almost went back in for a second breakfast! We have been coming to Maui for ten years. But this has to be the best customer service we have ever had. The beautiful lady with the neck tattoo and the amazing smile was SO kindhearted, SO helpful all whilst giving off the best chill vibes. Pure aloha. The coconut pineapple bar was moist and delicious The coffee was a wonderful flavor and well made. I normally like a matcha but I didn't see any on their menu. But I can't even complain because the latte was so dang good. When my husband started eating his one big pancake his eyes rolled into the back of his head, with pleasure ... not like the exorcist. The loco moco... is the most Hawaiian loco moco I've had in a long long time. True mushroom gravy, grilled onions on the burger, two perfectly cooked eggs. The ambience is cute and homey - there's both indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was... hit or miss. A couple of them were nice, but one was small kine rude. Ordering is not efficient. They took our order, then took their time making our drink, then did the transaction (CASH ONLY), then *lastly* sent the order back to be made. It took like 10mins for the entire process. Thennnnn, we had to wait for our food. We ordered: + Loco Moco + Half Order French Toast + Walnut Banana Bread + Cappuccino All items were pretty good. We sat outside in the corner which had a cute view. My other gripe is that... they have NO BATHROOMS. I'm currently 8+months and expecting... and the waitress told me that it's 5-10minute walk and *up a hill* to the nearest restroom... at a nearby park. That is ridiculous... and there was absolutely no signage that indicated that beforehand. Customers have no way of washing their hands or relieving themselves. I made a mental note... that I most likely wouldn't return and would not recommend to others who asked about breakfast after sunrise. Stoped by and tried the famous chili omelet 2/5 and a banana chocolate chip muffin 3/5 with pineapple juce 5/5 for the drink. The omelet and chili did.not have the flavor bang that I was looking for and the muffin had the moisture trapped by the cling wrap so it was a little soggy but the pineapple juice was amazing. The food is good though, very homey, my kids inhale the Coconut covered French Toast (they don't even really like coconut) and my wife swears this is one of the best chai lattes on Maui.
