Carlos is the man. He was so attentive to our group, took pictures that we could purchase from him after (we did because we forgot our gopro at the hotel) and made sure we all had a great time! He is the best and Maui Kayaks is the way to go if you want to swim with turtles!

This was awesome. We went on the makena/wailea explorer eco-adventure. Kayaked around for an hour or more, then snorkeled on the reef and swam with the turtles. It was amazing. John the guide was awesome and did a great job, very knowledgeable. John also offers pictures with his underwater camera for $60, which is awesome. Loved it, would gladly go again. Definitely recommend.

I have been on many kayak tours in California and Hawaii (Big Island), and I have to say that our guide, John 'Shappy' Shappell, was the best ever. There's an old saying "go slow to move fast", and John lives by that. We got the best briefing on how to get a kayak to fast and straight. I learned some things! We also found four turtles, and that was great too. 5 stars to John!

2017-06 - Our guide John took these GREAT pictures of our family's adventure!

The short version: My family and I kayaked from Makena Beach, and had the pleasure of having John Shappell from Maui Kayaks as our guide. Not only did we snorkeled with turtles and saw other sea life, but John was able to preserve the memories for us with his great photography! Longer version: I'm not a swimmer so I let John know I could kayak all day but I'd stay in the kayak while he guided my family under water to go exploring. The day was awesome, the water was calm, and John swam back to me after a few minutes and without putting any pressure on me, he relayed what a great experience it would be if I joined them down below, and he swam away, not before saying he'd keep checking in with me to see how I was doing. By the time John came back a second time I'd already put my gear on and was ready to get into the water. John made sure I was calm after getting my bearings in the water, and quickly encouraged me to take a look down below. WOW, what an incredible sight! After giving John a shaka down below, we were off to join everyone else. I swam with turtles, saw some native fish, and just marveled at the coral down below. I was able to experience with my family a great underwater adventure, which I will remember as my first snorkel experience in my life! Mahalo nui loa to John, and to Maui Kayaks, for this GREAT kayak and snorkel adventure!

This tour company was recommended by another kayak company and we were glad that we had booked with Maui Kayaks. We had Greg as our instructor for "Lahaina Paddle tour". We were so happy and thankful that we had him on our first kayak experience. He has a great sense of humor. You can tell that he loves what he is doing. Also, he was very knowledgeable about the sea life. We saw four different turtles. He let us hold a sea urchin and a pebble collector urchin. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the sharks. Overall, would definitely book a different activity when we come back. Thank you Greg! You're awesome!

Do they offer free photography during the tours?

They'd be more than happy to use your comers to take a picture of you and your guests. However our guide had an underwater camera is a secure housing that could be submerged safely, and he always had that camera in hand as we explored down below.

We found Maui kayak through a search and Maui Kayak Adv. had great reviews and it seemed to be on the side of the island we were on. Bonus... they are a B Corp. (look that up if you don't know) A company who gives back is super important and they are a small business, extra bonus. We had reservations for one day but the swells were a little "extra" so they called us to reschedule for another day. We had a little wiggle room and I appreciate that they cared about safety and even visibility in the water. Communication was super easy either via call or text and I was always updated on location of meet up. We were super lucky to have Heather as our guide. She was super nice and had great vibes and was super knowledgeable about the ocean life and geography around us. She took us to great spots and we saw tons of turtles amongst all of the other tropical fishes both shy and "brave" She even took amazing pictures for us of creatures up close by free diving and we got to download them later. Out of our on of our water snorkel adventures on our trip this was our fave: Heather was just all around rad. So support a small business who gives back to the community, and the environment and has amazing customer service and experience. I recommend Maui Kayak Adventure 10000000% Ask for Heather as your guide

Roger "Red" was proactive, thoughtful, friendly, down-to-earth, organized, knowledgeable, and incredibly responsive from start to finish. He made the planning easy and gave us a lot of confidence before we even got on the water. Wes was an excellent tour guide. He was kind, humble, helpful, knowledgeable, and very attentive to our family throughout the entire experience. At one point, I needed a little extra support getting safely back to my kayak, and Wes handled it calmly, professionally, and with such kindness that I felt completely taken care of. That kind of steady guidance matters, especially when you're out on the water. Our family had such a memorable time kayaking together, snorkeling, exploring the reefs, and swimming near the honu. It was one of the highlights of our Maui trip. The whole experience felt personal, well-run, safe, and genuinely special. Thank you, Roger and Wes, for taking such great care of us.

She did a thorough introduction before we went out on the water, helped us get on/off our kayaks with ease, and made sure we were all safe while respecting the Hawaiian waters and their majestic creatures. We saw so many whales breach in every direction, heard their songs clearly above water and under water with the paddle trick. Kris also took a few photos of us while we were out there! It can be a little difficult to hear out there on the water, so be sure to speak up and ask your tour guide to repeat if needed. Would have loved to hear more about facts about the whales and Maui in general, and it'd be cool if the tour guides used Hawaiian words like "Huli" which means "flip over". Luckily we didn't huli! Tip: Be sure to hydrate, eat a snack, wear reef safe sunscreen, long sleeves if it looks cold, stretch your hammies, and use the restroom beforehand as they don't offer these during the tour. I wish I brought my hydroflask, but I survived! Also, help out your locals and leave a tip if they meet your expectations! No need to bring cash unless you have a place for it, they'll email you with the photos and their Venmo to optionally tip.

No one in our group had…read moreever tried this before so I booked it since they advertise as beginner friendly, and the cost was reasonable. I wasn't sure what to expect since they don't have too many reviews.. but we still gave it a shot. Everyone had an AMAZING TIME!! Jason (the owner), is such a patient, kind, and just super chill guy. We arrived quite early since the kids were being inpatient and wanted to get in the water, so we decided to hang out on the beach near the meetup location. My kids began to explore and wanted to try to snorkel on their own with some masks we had purchased the day before. We settled down near a gentleman who we later realized was Jason. Before even realizing that we were part of his next tour, he was kind enough to help my kids and explained that the location they were trying to enter the water through was unsafe as the strong waves could cause them to injure themselves against the high coral. He guided them to a sand path which he explained was much safer. After some conversation, we both realized he was our tour guide! We immediately felt confident that it would be a great experience. Once the tour began, I just can't say enough about how patient Jason and his crew are. They explain everything very throughly and carefully. Jason let the group know that people who felt comfortable would be led out to deeper waters, but if anyone did not feel comfortable, they could stay in the more shallow waters with a guide. My kids decided to go out to deeper waters and saw turtles, fish, sea cucumbers, pencil urchins, and a lot of reef. Jason was super educational about marine life. He also did not have a time limit! I thought I read it wrong, but he confirmed in person that the tour was unlimited and we were free to snorkel until we decided we were done. Other companies I had looked into appeared to have a 2 hour limit. Jason goes above and beyond, and I would definitely recommend him! I was reading through the 1 star reviews because that's just what I do when it doesn't make sense, and I just can't really believe those reviews, especially since they appear to be fake accounts. Give these guys a try, you won't regret it! Thank you again Jason! Our tour with you was the highlight of our trip. My kids and husband will always remember this experience!

The woman on the phone was so helpful and reassuring, she explained that they've taken people out who have never been in the ocean or even a pool. They also honored the Groupon price, so I booked over the phone. What an amazing experience with Jason (who is Gabriel's dad). He was patient, gentle, and full of so much information. He really put me and the rest of the group at ease. Luckily, the two other couples with us weren't swimmers either, so we were all on the same level. Jason brought up many sea creatures for us to hold, and we saw turtles and live coral. Since I don't swim, I never thought I could experience anything like this. It was truly magical, and I'll never forget my first time. The next time I'm in Maui, I will definitely book again. Thank you Jason for a wonderful experience and memories that will stay with me forever.
