Ready for kayaking!
Yeuk Y.

Great experience -- wish we did this at the start of our vacation! Gabriel's Ohana were informative and supportive of all levels of kayakers and snorkelers (I had a vest on the snorkel trip and it was great!). The clear kayaks with pontoons were super stable and offered ok views of some fish although most were too hard for me to see; regardless, it was pretty cool for an immersive experience. We saw several turtles along the way -- that was definitely the highlight of the kayaking part. For the snorkeling, Jason was hands-down, one of the nicest and most knowledgeable guides I've met. He showed us all the sights (including a submerged turtle! YMMV) and he showed great empathy (he called them his Spidey-senses) and was checking in with all the participants as we went further out. Recommendation: book asap. book the late session if there is one, the unlimited snorkel time is key!

Beginning the day before our kayak and snorkel tour, Gabriel's Ohana team was informative and helpful. The directions provided by the team were perfect and made them easy to find on the side of the busy highway. Everything was set up and ready to go (thanks to Nik) and we were greeted right away by the owner Jason (Gabriel's Dad) and Nik. They got us rash guards and life jackets and also had small dry bags to borrow if needed. They provided water bottles, granola bars and fresh cut pineapple for us to enjoy, as well as reef safe sunscreen which was wonderful! The clear kayaks with pontoon supports made kayaking super easy! During the kayak tour Jason provided continuous knowledge of the reefs, the islands and was great at keeping us interested throughout the tour. I think the best part was that it felt like we were out with friends and not just another paying customer. It was such a laid back adventure that we easily got caught up in the aloha spirit and lost track of time we were having so much fun. Snorkeling was the cherry on top of the adventure. Jason shared his knowledge of the area and invited us to interact safely with a couple sea creatures, while not disturbing the reef or its life. We saw several different fish species, sea turtles and (from afar) even humpback whale exhalations as well as their backs/tails. Jason was extremely patient with the clients who were less experienced kayakers and snorkelers; educating, encouraging and helping ensure they were safe and comfortable the whole time. Gabriel's Ohana truly is an Ohana (family) business where you are treated as family and will leave fully satisfied with your experience. Mahalo Jason and Nik!

A must if visiting Maui. Jason and Gabriel were the best hosts and so full of knowledge. Definitely the aloha experience. We had our 2 girls with us and Jason was so kind and attentive to all of their needs and safety. It was so interactive and girls loved hearing about the island and ocean! Jason got starfish and sea cucumbers for all of us to see and touch. Quite the experience and girls absolutely learned so much as did we. It was a very personalized experience and we will be coming back to see him! Jason was so chill and relaxed and we got to spend extra time in the water snorkeling, even got to see turtles! He truly is a gem and an amazing host! You can tell that Jason and Gabriel are truly genuinely passionate and love what they do. Jason was one of the kindest and friendliest person we got to meet in Maui. Thank you Jason and Gabriel for your warm hospitality.

Gabrielle and Jason were truly amazing! Gabrielle took us out on a double clear kayak ( perfect & calm morning) and was so knowledgeable about Maui and Hawaiian culture. Then we came back, Jason (the Dad and owner) cut a fresh pineapple and introduced us to Li Hing (yum). After our snack, Jason took us out snorkeling. He was so patient and helpful with my mom, helping her and guiding her the whole way. What a perfect morning in Maui! The whole family was helpful, recommending places to eat and things to see. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone! They truly at the Aloha spirit.

[Jan. 2025] We had a great time on the morning whale watching kayak tour! We are very grateful for having a great guide. He was very knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about the islands as well. Everything was well coordinated and ran smoothly. We will never forget this experience. I did get hungry midway in, so I am glad I had brought an extra granola bar. Even though they gave us one and they had extra sunscreen just in case. The pineapple at the end was yum.

What a fantastic morning. This is a family owned business, and it shows in the care and attention they provide. Gabriel was very knowledgeable about the area, and was a fantastic guides. At the last minute my husband and I asked if we could add whale watching and snorkeling. Gabriel's Ohana happily added these and we are so glad we did. We rowed pretty far out, and we're able to see a few whales in the distance. Snorkeling was amazing. We saw so many different types of beautifully colored fish and even saw a turtle. If you have a chance, book this experience. It is so worth it.

Had a great time kayaking and snorkeling. This was my first time and I was skeptical because I cannot swim. Jason, aka the "Florida Man," and his two sons were amazing. Super helpful with all of my questions and Jason is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to nature and the ocean. He also provided entertaining stories while we kayak, which calmed my nerves. He should have his own show. Highly recommend them for this experience, you will not be disappointed.

Did a snorkeling tour with Jason and Gabriel today and it was a wonderful time! He spent so much time teaching us all about the island, the sea creatures, fish, and island ways. He and his son took great care of us with pineapple, water, gear, and lots of personal tidbits. I'd highly recommend him for a great day of kayaking and snorkeling!

This was an amazing experience for us. Jason was such a great guide for our excursion. We had such a great time. I would definitely come back. Highly recommend this if you're looking for a more personable experience.

We arrived at the center early and there is pay via app parking in the public lot and checked in for the morning brief before we boarded our boat, which was the Kai Ko, a sailing catamaran. Afterwards, the whole group walked down to the docks for boarding. The Kai Ko is a lot bigger than I expected, which was able to accommodate up to 130 people with seating for all on 3 decks. We sat at a bench with a table up forward, but you can sit on the covered upper deck under the sail boom behind the pilot house or on the lower deck with the snack bar. We had the best view forward, but it is exposed to the sun & sea spray. A couple of families sat in the cargo netting right above the waves. The Kai Ko does triple duty for whale watch excursions, as well as dinner cruises and snorkeling, so is equipped for all three trips. For whale watching, they only use the engine and do not raise the sails, which they do use for more relaxed dinner cruises. We motored out of the marina and out into Maalaea Bay and encountered a mother and baby Humpback whales almost immediately. Later we encountered another mother and calf that was also accompanied by an escort whale, which is rare. The mother showed her tail flukes on her last deep dive, which is used to identify the whale by their unique tail markings. You learn a lot of whale facts from the onboard guides. Later, one of the crew lowered a hydrophone in the water to record & broadcast Humpback whale songs over the ship's speakers, which was pretty cool. There were other whales that did full body breaches out of the water, but we were really far away. The whole whale watch cruise is 2 hours and returns you back to the docks exactly on the hour. It was an exciting excursion and we got back in time for lunch.

We had a plenty of time to float and observe the fish. Lunch was delish and they prepared some tasty gluten free noodles JUST for me. For us, we prefer the Sunset Cocktail cruise as it's the perfect amount of food and drinks. This last trip, we took the whole family for the express snorkel trip. It's a shorter trip, which worked perfectly for the younger kids and didn't tie up a big amount of island time. Captain Nick and his crew was all about making sure all had a great time while keeping safety at the top of mind. They guaranteed we'd see turtles... we did! Immediately. I accused them of being remote controlled because they were there right on cue! I'm not a big snorkel guy, but I had a blast. We'll keep returning to Sea Maui. Greatest crew on Maui !!

On our vacation to Maui last week, we took trips out to the sea with Sea Maui twice. Our first trip…read moreout was an adults-only family excursion while the kids hung out with their grandma and auntie. The catamaran was pretty sweet, with some really comfy bean bags overlooking the edge out to the ocean. While we did occasionally get splashed in this area, it was worth the unobstructed view of the sunset and the breeze in my hair. The crew was especially sweet and treated all of us like absolute royalty. A note to those who are prone to motion sickness: do not try to be brave and only wear sea bands thinking you'll be okay. Take your Dramamine an hour before you board the catamaran. While the first half of our dinner cruise was fine with my motion sickness, the second half of the trip left me feeling really queasy around dinner service time. This made me very sad. This was no fault of the crew, and 100% my fault for thinking I could tough it out. If you are ill-prepared, the crew has ginger ale, club soda and ginger chews to help. Speaking of dinner, the few bites I was able to eat on our first trip were fantastic: a full dinner buffet prepared by Cafe Jai. The salmon was perfectly tender, as was the short rib. The caesar salad was just the right amount of tangy (and the extra dressing was really great on the salmon as well.) I'm not sure what kind of sauce was on the crispy seasoned potatoes but they were absolutely delightful. And of course, the crown on top of a delicious meal was the mini brownie cup we were served for dessert before we wrapped up the trip. Our second trip (where I was prepared with some Dramamine) was a memorial for our grandparents, where we released their cremains at sea with eco-urns. I must say that the crew handled everything wonderfully. We had the full bar, another beautiful buffet spread including some delicious crispy chicken, a pesto pasta salad, pulled beef sliders, and rolls. After we said our emotional goodbyes, we were given rose petals to release into the ocean. We even received certificates after the trip that gave us the coordinates of where my grandparents cremains were released. I seriously cannot thank Sea Maui enough for giving my family a truly memorable experience on our trip to Maui. They made our trip so special. A million thanks for the kindness!

The snorkeling experience was phenomenal and being pregnant, it made me feel so calm and relaxed. I appreciated learning the history of the two various locations we snorkeled at and the opportunity to see a sea turtle. The ship itself was pristine, and the restrooms were some of the cleanest I have ever experienced on a boat. The breakfast and lunch that they served us was tasty, and the macadamia nut cookies at the end were the perfect sweet treat. I appreciated that they were able to offer me mocktails since I cannot drink at this time, and those were tasty as well. I booked a snorkeling tour for one person in March 2026. Both my booking confirmation through…read moreGetYourGuide and the confirmation from Hawaii Nautical clearly reflected that the reservation was for one guest. The evening before my tour, I called to confirm everything. During that call, the representative noticed what appeared to be a duplicate reservation and assured me she would cancel the duplicate booking. She also recommended that I contact GetYourGuide to verify I would not be double charged. GetYourGuide confirmed that my reservation had always been for only one person and that I had only been charged once. Despite this, approximately two hours before my scheduled departure, I received a call informing me that my tour was being canceled because there were not enough passengers. I even offered to purchase a second seat so the tour could proceed, but that offer was declined. What is most frustrating is not simply that the tour was canceled, but that this issue could have been communicated much earlier. If the company knew they were unlikely to meet their minimum passenger requirement, there was no reason to wait until two hours before departure. By that point, I had already arranged transportation, incurred cancellation fees on my ride, and lost the opportunity to book another snorkeling excursion during my vacation. Yes, I was refunded, but a refund is the bare minimum when a company cancels a service for reasons entirely within its control. The last-minute cancellation created unnecessary inconvenience and wasted valuable vacation time. If you're booking with Hawaii Nautical, especially as a solo traveler, be aware that your reservation may be canceled at the last minute if they don't have enough passengers. I would have appreciated more transparency and significantly more notice.

Breakfast included pastries, fresh fruit, muffins, a coffee bar, delicious juices, and water. They also served healthy snacks after snorkeling with fresh cucumbers, sliced bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, and hummus. Lunch was a choice of pulled pork sandwiches or deli sandwiches with chips, sodas, and other drinks. After snorkeling, alcoholic beverages were available for purchase as well. The boat itself was fantastic, with three bathrooms, two water slides, a jumping platform off the second deck, and even reef-safe sunscreen provided for everyone. The snorkeling was absolutely incredible! The coral was beautiful, and there was so much marine life. We saw countless tropical fish, two octopuses, a squid, needlefish, and more sea turtles than we could count. It truly felt like swimming in an aquarium.
