Had the most amazing whale watch this morning, thanks to Maui Reef Adventures. Captain Ryan and Garrett were phenomenal! They were knowledgeable, informative, but also kept things humorous and enjoyable. We got so lucky seeing numerous whales doing everything from fin waves, to tail dives and even a few full-body breaches. And the wonderful aforementioned crew took their time, didn't rush and made sure everyone got to see their fill of whale activity. Can't say enough good things. Easy 5 stars! Brad and (Jenn?) were great tour guides. They were funny, helpful, knowledgeable, and encouraging throughout the tour! They provided coffee, juice, water, and breakfast goodies, as well as snacks, and then a light lunch which was refreshing after being in the water for so long. The best Molokini Crater snorkel and turtle cove tour! Captain Brad was attentive and made you feel at ease. He also knows when is the best time for snorkeling; we beat the crowds in both locations! We were the only ones snorkeling at the sunken Hawaiian volcano. We also enjoyed crispy fresh turkey wraps after the swim! The Molokini Crater had crystal clear, calm waters, and the coral/tropical fishes are the best I have seen in a long time. This is definitely a must-do!! read more

Ariel and Scott were fantastic guides for the day. Competitive rates, small tour feel, and solid snack and drink provisions! Our favorite thing about this company is the unique boat that can rip through the water and take tight turns, it was so fun to have a thrilling high speed boat ride in addition to the snorkeling. They took us to great spots with plenty to see, and we never felt rushed! They have pretty basic snack and drink offers (ginger ale, water, juices, no alcholic beverages and we had turkey sandwiches for lunch on the ride back). We prefer smaller group tours like this versus up to 50 people on the larger companies and this one certainly didn't disappoint! read more

My husband and I were fortunate enough to snag a last-minute cancellation yesterday (lessons learned: book these snorkeling excursions at least a week in advance!) and we went on a 4 hour snorkeling trip to Molokini this morning. I was a bit worried about the boat size (smaller, no deck), but the size of the group (less than 25 people) made the experience a lot better (other snorkeling tours such as Calypso or Pride of Maui had at least 50 people on their very large boats). We stopped at 2 sites: turtle town (and saw so many large sea turtles) and Molokini (we got there around 11 when most of the other tour boats are leaving). The captain and staff (his name is Esteban and he looks like prince Harry) are attentive and friendly. We had an amazing trip. The price is fair, and the value is excellent. I wish they would do tours elsewhere and certainly would recommend you to check it out! After taking another snorkeling tour with Trilogy, I find Trilogy's professionalism is better, adjusting rating after comparison. read more

The employees of excursions companies really are a big part in determining whether things go well or not on a trip. Captain Brad and Danny were great! They were professional and focused on safety, but really friendly and good humored, joking with everyone and making sure everyone had what they needed and were having fun. They took the time to whale watch when they spotted whales in the vicinity and didn't rush or go through the motions on any aspect of the trip. Highly recommended! We had a great time. read more

My friend and I had a wonderful experience on our VIP Whale Watch Tour! The "boat" felt very stable and sturdy, seats were very comfy, speed fast at times, which made it a fun adventure experience. Captain Brad, Esteban and Jen were all pros, knowledgeable as well as entertaining, with great senses of humor. We saw many whales, mamas, babies, leaping, breaching, tails etc. PLUS a surprise thrill to see a shark chasing puffer fish! Wow, that was as close as I'd ever want to get to a shark, it was right next to boat, went from side to side, last we saw the puffer, it was still swimming faster! Yay! This trip was simply amazing! Captains Garrett and Ryan were terrific as the helped my son and I lean how to snorkel and helped keep an eye out to what to see. As a result, we were able to see a bunch of tropical fish along with a sea turtle, a spotted eagle ray, a moray eel and a huge pufferfish. I spent 2 hours in the water but it inly felt like 2 minutes! I highly recommend this to everyone! read more

We had a great time on this wonderful whale watching adventure! It was super windy and my husband gets seasick so he was apprehensive, but the boat is extremely stable and super fast and the ride wasn't bumpy at all. Captain Ryan did an awesome job and Jen was excellent and very knowledgeable. She was great at answering my many questions about the whales! We saw quite a few whales and even had one baby whale breach right next to the boat! I definitely recommend this trip. read more

Horrible, horrible customer service. I was looking forward to whale watching with my family. We planned a lot of our trip around this and came from different parts of the US for this holiday. The tour was scheduled to depart at 3:15pm, 4/6ths of our party were on the raft, but we caught a huge patch of traffic right before the turn in. Our family kept them in the loop, updating our eta. We arrived around 3:13pm and they notified the crew member, but she said they won't wait another minute. They ended up departing at 3:14, as we were in the parking lot. And they knew we were there. They would not wait until 3:16pm to depart, but leaving a minute early at 3:14pm was no problem. On board, family said they were extremely rude. Raft has many open seats. Completely ruined this experience for all of us. And forget about a refund, they made that abundantly clear 30 minutes beforehand when we gave our eta. Definitely feel like they used us to make a point. Horrible. read more

Maui Reef Adventures offers a perfect small group tour for virgins or pros that want to explore the giant aquarium that surrounds Hawaii. We took the Molokini Snorkel Tour from Maui to 3 locations in 4 hours aboard the 41' Navatek Rigid Inflatable Boat called Ocean Freedom. All Maui Reef tours are small groups with limited capacity and this was no different. We started by speeding (it's fast!) over to the clear waters in the famous Molokini Crater and then around to the back side for a "float snorkel". Then, we headed over to "Turtle Town" off Maui and then to another spot just up the coast from it. Each stop was 5-star, but Molokini and Turtle Town were the highlights. At $120/person, this might not be the cheapest tour around (I honestly don't know other prices); however, for my wife and I, it was a great tour. Captain Brad was cool while his crew mate Solange was even cooler. They were so accommodating and friendly, yet, stayed professional the entire time making sure each snorkeler was safe. My fiancee and I purchased Maui Reef Adventures Snorkel at Molokini Crater for our vacation this March. Alex & Ryan, the captain and crew of this smaller craft made our trip absolutely incredible. In summary - this company and our crew was GREAT, respectful of those who are onboard, shared in some great, light-hearted humor for a fun day, and made sure everyone enjoyed the ride. They were the BEST excursion we did while vacationing in Maui! We started off in the morning, leaving right on-time at 8 AM (thanks for that respect to everyone who arrived on-time, Capt. Alex!). Breakfast and good humor was available for everyone on our small-party vessel of 25 people. It made for a relaxed, spacious ride as we listened to mama and baby humpback whales talking to each other through the hydrophone Alex & Ryan had onboard, even able to hear them through the hull of the boat, they were that close! SO cool! Then, we went to Capt. Alex's 'secret reef' where we swam with sea turtles - away from all the big party boats with 100+ people onboard each over at Turtle Bay/Makena Beach, by the way! We cruised from there to Molokini Crater, loving the circuitous route we took to get there in order to hop between whale pods as they breached and slapped the surface with their fins - so much so that we canceled our whale watching tour for later out of Lahaina! Capt. Alex timed our arrival at Molokini Crater for when all the big cruisers (and the resulting throngs of tourists) were departing from their rush over there as we'd enjoyed whale watching. We arrived to the crater only hosting two other small local craft and their small snorkeling parties. it was perfect - and exactly as such a beautiful reef should be enjoyed: with respect and grace. And the reef didn't disappoint. SO many fish and 100-foot visibility underwater. We saw EVERYTHING. With a lunch to enjoy onboard - which was delicious, by the way - we relaxed in the sun, and got everyone back onboard to return to the harbor. We saw more whales and got a full Maui coastal tour of the local islands we were cruising by along the way. Oh, and the Coast Guard called in to our vessel while we were returning from the crater asking us to turn around and help with a Search & Rescue operation for two sea kayakers that got pushed off-course. So, we did. This was truly a Maui Reef Adventure - and one we'll never forget! Thanks, guys! read more

My wife and I were on vacation in Maui and we stopped at Costco and saw this snorkeling tour for $75 and picked it up. We checked in at 6:30 AM and they had fresh fruit and juice and coffee for us all. Brad and Sarah were awesome guides and took us out to the crater first. After about an hour drive out there, we saw some amazing fish and coral at the crater in the clearest water you will ever see for snorkeling. Just gorgeous. Next was turtle town, which was AMAZING. I was swimming face to face with sea turtles multiple times and it was very surreal. One of the best snorkeling tours ever. They fed us wraps and chips and they had plenty of water available, since you really need some after hanging out in the ocean for hours. The turkey wraps were really good too. They hit the spot after a long morning of seeing crazy awesome stuff. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Maui. Highly recommended. read more

We took the ferry from Lanai to the Maui Maalaea Harbor where we easily walked about 5 minutes to the opposite side of the dock to meet up with our tour boat. This was our first experience with Maui Reef Adventures and it was a fun, exciting day of whale watching. Garrett and Ryan, the captain, were so professional and engaging, we definitely recommend this company if you want a seamless and memorable time on a clean and comfortable boat to view and watch the whales that have returned to Maui! Great Crew, Smooth Boat, Good Time! The captain was from Seattle, I don't recall his name because I am terrible with names. He was jovial and liked to makes jokes. Great character for this type of work. He made people laugh all along the way. The blonde girl and the blonde guy on the boat were all super polite and attentive to the passengers safety and thirst along the trip... A mild lunch was provided and it was really not very good at all, but the crew was great and everything else was stellar so I'm still giving 5 stars to this company and crew. Seriously they need to improve on those wraps as they are not very good and are super small! They had the tase juice drinks though which was nice! We went to Molokin'i and Turtle bay for some snorkeling (In our case light free diving with our own gear). We also made some stops along the way to see the whales who were in season for the area. We swam with some turtles and got to Molokin'i before the crowds and before it got pretty choppy out there. All in all this was one of the best crews I have seen in my massive travels and boating excursions. Great attitudes that made the trip fun. Go have some fun with these guys, but make sure you pay for parking at this harbor. It isn't totally clear when you arrive in the dark that you need to pay for parking. About half the people parked around us had nice tickets waiting for them.... read more

The tour was fun, the guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and they helped us avoid all the other crowds of tourists to the extent possible while still enjoying the full experience. Book this adventure! We came for our honeymoon and went on this adventure 02/26/22. It might get pricey but it is worth it. Their boat has 4 V8s so it's hella fast and the Captain is hilarious haha Esteban was great and so nice to grab my sunglasses that fell in while.. I was sick... attracted a load of fish tho so yay for snorkelers. I wish I didn't get so sick so I can enjoy it better but it was still fun! We saw gigantic sea turtles and got to see the whales that came back to hawaii to give birth. They were really close and the tails that flapped onto the sea water was so unreal. Heard a kid say it was much better than the whale watch tour he took. So that made me realize it was hella worth it. Too bad I couldn't get photos of the whales. The turtles I was able to capture photos of but with an underwater film camera so I will have to see how that comes out. read more

Best whale watching tour our family has ever been on. Intimate setting, knowledgeable (and funny) Captain Brad and Bree the "whale whisperer" were amazing. We saw several whales along with their babies! We took our son with us too and he had a great time learning all about these massive animals while sipping on the complimentary apple juice. Great tour for families. We will be back. And, not to discredit the big boats, but we liked this smaller boat much better as we were able to move around a lot easier and get up close and personal (but not too personal as Captain Brad would say - have to respect the boundary rules!). I was very unhappy with this company. Due to construction in Lahaina from the fires, my 30 min trip took 1 hour 5 min. I called several times sharing that I was in my way and stuck in traffic beyond my control. I begged and pleaded for some grace period, I called them to keep them updated on my status. as I was pulling into the boat dock they pulled away without me and my family. my children sat in the car crying and I am out $425 . They refused to issue me a refund. Not at all the Aloha spirit I was expecting. read more

We had an awesome day during the Turtle Town and Molokini Crater tour! It is our first time on Maui. The crew!!! They really made the trip, aside from the gorgeous views and swimming around watching the turtles. Ryan, Maria & Esteban were very knowledgeable about the island, marine life, and surrounding islands which was really great. Plus they were so much fun!!
