My husband and I had the pleasure of booking a Snorkeling trip with Calypso during our vacation. The experience from start to finish was incredible. We booked the snorkeling trip to Molokini Crater and Turtle Town. Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff who were the epitome of service with a smile. The amazing photographer-videographer, Marley worked overtime to capture all of the fun. The whole crew were constantly checking on the guests. The highlight of the trip was the second half when we stopped at Turtle Town, where we got to swim and actually see turtles. Our captain was so friendly, my husband and I had the pleasure with chatting with him. Midway through the trip he came over to us and gave us two of the biggest avocados from his tree to take back to our vacation rental. I can't recommend the Molokini & Turtle Town Snorkel Adventure aboard the Calypso enough! From the moment we stepped onboard until we returned to the harbor, everything was incredibly organized. The crew worked together like a well-oiled machine and made the entire experience seamless. A quick tip before you arrive: parking is $7, and you absolutely need to pay it. There were tow trucks literally sitting in the parking lot waiting for people who didn't pay. It definitely wasn't worth risking getting your rental car towed over $7! The food was surprisingly good! Breakfast included pastries, fresh fruit, muffins, a coffee bar, delicious juices, and water. They also served healthy snacks after snorkeling with fresh cucumbers, sliced bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, and hummus. Lunch was a choice of pulled pork sandwiches or deli sandwiches with chips, sodas, and other drinks. After snorkeling, alcoholic beverages were available for purchase as well. The boat itself was fantastic, with three bathrooms, two water slides, a jumping platform off the second deck, and even reef-safe sunscreen provided for everyone. The snorkeling was absolutely incredible! The coral was beautiful, and there was so much marine life. We saw countless tropical fish, two octopuses, a squid, needlefish, and more sea turtles than we could count. It truly felt like swimming in an aquarium. A special shoutout goes to Corine, who was the absolute highlight of our trip. Unfortunately, several people became seasick during the ride, and she cared for every single one of them with such kindness and compassion--bringing water, Dramamine, napkins, and constantly checking on them. She never seemed bothered and genuinely made those guests feel cared for. She was amazing! One tip: if you're prone to motion sickness, take Dramamine before the trip. We did see quite a few people getting sick over the side of the boat because the ocean can be rough. This excursion exceeded all of our expectations. Great food, an amazing crew, a beautiful boat, and some of the best snorkeling we've ever experienced. 10/10--we would absolutely do it again! read more

Calypso is the only Maui snorkeling boat that is wheelchair accessible with ADA restroom. Highly recommend for other wheelchair users! The crew is very professional, helpful, kind, humorous, and efficient. The boat also supplies optical prescription snorkel masks, included with the tour fee...super amazing as I forgot to pack my contact lenses. I had a lovely time snorkeling at molokini crater and turtle town while aboard the Calypso. I got a bit sea sick because of the waves but Corinne took great care of me! I also want to thank the lovely lady who helped my mom when she got nervous in the water. The other staff were also fabulous as well and you can tell they have been doing this awhile. The concierge where I was staying talked up Calypso Charters (without naming them). She was very impressed with the number of seats they have, the food they provide, and the overall experience. She was so impressed that she worked hard to sell my friend on Calypso when booking a snorkel excursion but my friend didn't want a big boat with slides; she wanted something more intimate and less likely to be what might be thought of as a party boat. After booking what she did want, my party of 4 arrived at an early time to check in at Boss Frog's. It was then we learned that our planned outing had been canceled and all those who'd booked it were now scheduled to go out on Calypso Charters (at no extra charge to us) that boarded 45 minutes after we'd planned. I personally didn't care but a couple in my group did as did others who'd booked the same charter trying to avoid the same things as us. So some of us were salty, not yet from the sea. This Calypso experience was significantly less than full which, I think, made a huge, positive difference. It was still a big boat with slides on multiple levels but it never turned into the kind of experience we'd been trying to avoid. Molokini and Turtle Town were the two snorkeling stops we made and though Calypso can't manage this, everyone was non-plussed by Turtle Town where we saw zero turtles and a reef far less interesting than Molokini had been. The staff was good at their jobs and provided a supportive, fun, and responsible vibe giving the impression that - turtles or not - the tour was well organized and well-managed. Beginning with boarding, there was food at each stop (no extra charge) and though it was far from delicious, it got the job done: Breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dessert are included. Calypso also rents wetsuits and GoPros on board and there's a glass bottom (and slides) on their boat. It wasn't what we set out to experience but I feel comfortable saying that it was, after all, a good experience that might've been less enjoyable to us had the boat been full. Other stuff: * The cheapest parking is down amongst the boats. Park up in the shopping center lot and you'll pay up to 3 times more (all in advance). read more

DON'T EXPECT TO SEE FISH!!!!!!! The pros - extremely organized and efficient staff and food was decent. The cons - virtually no fish. I repeat. Virtually no fish. I went there to see tonnes of fish and I saw a couple. There were hundreds of people and tens of fish. Saw a couple turtles which was nice. I was beyond disappointed. My family had a GREAT time with Captain Kiwi and crew! John and Erica were especially friendly and helpful. Erica was very patient and attentive to my 82 year old mom, who actually went snorkeling. The boat ride was very smooth, and my wife didn't feel sea sick at all, and she usually always feels nauseous on a boat. When the water did get a little choppy, the captain was able to steer to lessen the rocking. This is an ideal boat for first timers as the whole crew was very accommodating and friendly. Ryan, the cameraman, took great care to get a lot of pictures of each group on board. We loved the slides, jumping platform, breakfast, lunch, and probably my favorite part, standing at the front of the boat while cruising and seeing the flying fish jump out and fly in front of us. So much fun! One thing I do want to mention, has nothing to do with the boat itself, but with the parking to get on the boat. The app only allows you to pay up to three hours, the experience is a total Of 5-6 hours!!! Make sure you pay attention and pay for the entirety of your trip! Fabulous company; went out of their way to give us a great experience. Awesome time, fun crew, clean, quality gear. Appreciated the hot coffee and breakfast at the beginning of the trip, the fruit, veggies, and lunch on board. My travel partner had a mai tai or two after we were done snorkeling, which he enjoyed. It was fun with the slides and the jump off deck. I would have loved to have had an opportunity to wear a wet suit top, but Calypso only offers on one piece, short sleeve top and shorts combination. Having three working restrooms was great as well. My travel partner and I have snorkeled with another company in Maui in the past (who canceled our originally booked trip this time) and agreed that we enjoyed our time with Calypso even though it was a little more expensive. read more

This is a strong yes. Top to bottom, more steps to go in water. Fully supplied snorkel gear , full breakfast, eggs and sausage and lunch, pulled pork on buns with potato salad and mixed beans. No towels. Deck showers, slides and a dive step 30 feet off the water. Most jumped. Some did not want to get wet, or went below for glass bottom views. Something for all abilities. They had a lifeguard in the water to observe and enforce not getting up on the dry land. The Bar was at 2.00 per, and a helpful crew male and female full of aloha. Thank you Patrick, crew, ex real estate, for the extra ice cream treats. Yum. We had whale watching both directions, but a dead stop on return leg. At least 10-15 minutes to watch a mother and baby and escort cavort. A real show at the bow, no moving on till they do. We did a generous crew tip at the end. Painless..... Thanks to the Fearless Captain. Pic in cabin provided below. He was full of whale information and jokes. We all had padded seats everywhere, some other watch trips didn't. And a final body count at both snorkel stops, both announced with jokes before we moved the boat. Can't be left behind that way.... I enjoyed a fantastic snorkel cruise to Molokini on the Calypso! The crew was attentive and helped us fit our gear so we were able to enjoy a seamless experience! The boat was large and stable and the whole back of the boat had stairs across it so we could get in without waiting for tentative swimmers. There was a fun slide and a high jumping platform! Breakfast was hearty and lunch plentiful. I loved the Kalua pork sandwiches! They gave us reef safe sunscreen too. I will definitely go again and highly recommend! read more

We boarded the Calypso on our final night on Maui to close out our trip. Was a great choice and a beautiful way to wrap up our vacation. Live music was lovely, photographer on board took great pictures that we were able to buy. (FYI he charged us $75 flat fee and gave us access to all photos he took on the boat in a digital folder that he emailed to us within a day of the trip) Everyone in our party had the prime rib which was slightly overcooked but still tasted amazing. Considering they cook everything ahead, load the boat and serve us food on the boat I thought the food was really well done. Staff was beyond AMAZING! My son boarded the boat in a wheelchair and they were very kind to literally move him from the ramp to the boat carefully and with love. We had a great time onboard the Calypso for the Molokini & Turtle Town Snorkeling. The Captain and Crew were all so professional and welcoming. We arrived a bit earlier than recommended, got great seats on the boat, had a light breakfast and got underway. The team onboard was so well organized - they got everyone gear, instructions, safety info, all the important things out right away. When we arrived at the crater, they had lifeguards on surfboards watching over everyone as well as a photographer who would take underwater pictures of your group if you wanted. Saw fish - nothing too exciting, but that's certainly not the Calypso's fault! About half way through the crater stop, they opened the small slide on the side of the boat, as well as the larger slide on the back, and the jumping platform up top. Speaking from experience, if you see all these young kids (including your young elementary school aged kids) jumping from the high up platform and think, "that must be easy, and fun, and no big deal...I think in my mid-40s - this is the perfect time in my life to begin jumping off of boats!" Just don't and tell your mid-40's husband not to do it either. Neither of you are that young or fun or flexible. Think twice before jumping. So after hobbling back to our seats, a safety check to make sure everyone was onboard, we made our way to Turtle Town. The crew shared that the water and swim is a little rougher there, but they had lifeguards on surfboard lined up in the direction we all should swim. I felt so safe and comfortable. I was really impressed with their organization and attention to safety and detail. We saw a few turtles and had a great experience! Once back onboard, a great lunch was served - I'm not into buffets or sandwiches, but this was really good. We made our way back to the harbor and disembarked on time as scheduled. There are a lot of tour operators - I feel like I did a decent amount of research before booking the Calypso - and it was the right choice for us. The water was a little bumpy with all the ups and downs on the boat, but the captain said it might be and he would try to make as smooth as possible. Absolutely worth the price. First i would like to shout out the names of this awesome morning crew who made the experience so wonderful: Ryan, Erica, Lionel, David, Darius, Daniel, Captain Chad, John, and Jeff (please let me know if i missed anyone) Starts at 6:45 but get there at 6:30 to park. Accidentally parked in the further dirt lot near the hotels but there is parking on the jetty in the marina where the calypso boat is docked (THE OTHER SIDE). Check in is good and the boat leaves at 7:30 am. Good to get there earlier to choose seats (loved second level with a shaded deck and views of the sea). Upper levels get hot and the bottom gets pretty crowded with folks going in and out and getting food. 7:45 nice breakfast food eggs, sausages, fruits, pastries, juice, coffee, and tea. About 1 hour until first stop. Saw whales and dolphins. A pleasant ride and information on how to use the gear. 8:45 i think we got to molokini crater and stayed there for about an hour. Super gorgeous water and a very active reef. Do not go towards the rocks or scrape the corals. Many black fish and we even saw angel fish, yellow tang, needle fish, christmas wrasse, parrot fish, and an eel! 9:45 back on the boat and a drive around the backside of molokini crater. I really enjoyed the views and hospitality of the staff. There is a camera man, 10 rentable go pros ($85 a day), a water slide, and a dive area. Staff are there to guide you and ensure you stay in the designated area. There are also fruits and hummus as a mid morning snack. 11:15 i want to say at this time we stopped at turtle town which was neat. We even saw some dolphins sleeping together in a pod. Turtle town was nice but i think people got a little tired after the first snorkel session. We stayed about 45-1 hour and saw about 5 turtles, many fish, and a beautiful healthy coral reef. I liked this reef a lot because it was a bit closer to the surface and seemed like it had many colors 12:15 came back to the boat and had a nice simple lunch of potato salad, veggies, pulled pork sandwiches, turkey and salami vegetable sandwiches, three bean salad, and various chips. Lunch ended with an ice cream bar. We saw maybe 5 separate whale/dolphin groups on the way back and the captain slowed down so we could see them. 1:00 about this time we arrived back at the marina, returned our snorkels, and had a wonderful time. Make sure to tip the staff/crew because they really put their all into making this a great experience for everyone (one girl said she works like 60 hours a week which is crazy in this heat). Parking looked worse than it was, but still probably get there early. Make sure you pay for a little extra time just in case - better to have the peace of mind. You will end up just hanging out in the parking lot for a little while so bring someone you like to spend time with. Once you begin to board you will meet the crew and every. single. crewmate. was AWESOME. Shoutout to Jeff, Andy, and Darius. You will be fed and it will be like the lunch your mom packed you when you were 10 and you will eat it and enjoy it because it's lunch on a boat in paradise. $10 to rent a wetsuit was very fair and saved our butts (that water was coooolldd in early April). Got to see a plethora of turts (that's turtles for you npc's) and other cool sea items like eels, coral and fishies. Great activity in Maui! The boat ride was a fun experience during our vacation in October. The staff is friendly, funny and helpful. They even rent out underwater cameras or go pros for people who want them. You are offered both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is light, fruit and pastries with coffee water or juice and lunch was made up of cookies and sandwiches. They had both ham and turkey and vegetarian I believe. The food was just okay. The boat ride was fun! It includes a slide and they offer float belts which is a plus. We took the ride to Molokini and the snorkeling was fun but I had expected more sea life. Due to weather, we could not go to Turtle Town which was a big disappointment but I understand it was for safety, still a big bummer. There were other boats in the area for other tours but since we did the early one, it did not feel crowded and each boat had its own big area for all different parties. My family and I signed up for the Molokini & Turtle Town snorkeling. We went out on the Calypso which is the biggest snorkeling boat I've been on. There were alot of people - more than I expected. We chose to sit on top and I highly recommend it! You have a great 360 view. The crew were great - they walked those who didn't have their own snorkels / those who didn't know how use one through the steps of creating a seal and breathing thru the tube. Once we were tied out at Molokini the crew kept a good eye on all the snorkelers and kept everyone within the same area. Again - there were a lot of people so we crashed into a few. Everyone (attendees) was very nice so that made it a bit better. Due to conditions, we were unable to continue onto Turtle Town, but Molokini was fun! *our family consisted of children as young as 12 and a 73 year old adult. All were able to get off the boat and get back on with little to no trouble. read more
