I called a few places in Kihei for price quotes -- Michael was the only person who clearly understood basic phone etiquette (face palm!). We finally made our way to renting moped scooters during our 10 day stay in Kihei. Since we had a packed itinerary, we didn't get to stop in until Thursday late afternoon. It was actually great timing because there's a 'weekend special' if you will. They're open half day on Sundays so there is a pro-rated charge. We checked out our mopeds Friday at 11am and returned them on Monday at 11am for $110 (that's for two people). Mopeds rode nicely as we cruised toward the Lava Fields. Remember, the max speed is roughly 32 mph so move aside to the bike lane if you're riding with car traffic. Most importantly to me, service was great from start to finish. On a whim, we decided to fill our afternoon with a bike ride around Kihei and are SOOOO glad Hawaiian Cruisers had four pedego bikes for our group of four girls. It was the highlight of our trip and this was one that included a private charter and heli ride to/from the Road to Hana. The e-bikes made going up the hills on the way to Wailea a piece of cake and it was absolutely great to zip around with ease and comfort while taking in the many different sights. The guy @ the store gave us very detailed directions for the route included riding along the gorgeous waterfront, through really cute neighborhoods, under canopies of trees, and around all the stunning resorts. I rented a 50cc motor scooter and I while I last rode one many decades ago, I found it just like getting back on a bike! (Haha!) It was easy to ride and I had a blast! And after tootling around on it for a few days, it only cost $.88 to fill it back up with gas. Also, I really appreciated the time they took to go over the bike with me, explain everything, provide well-fitting helmet, and let me practice in the back parking lot on my own. They were very patient and thorough. They also seem to do a lot of business, so make a reservation if possible. We came across this rental place after eating breakfast nearby and looking for a fun way to kill a couple of hours. The rental was $35 for a full 24 hours which I thought was pretty reasonable. The guy who helped us, I believe he was the owner, was really informative and even gave us a map and pointed out his favorite route and circled his favorite stops and insider tips. A full tutorial is provided before you head out, and it was pretty straightforward. It was a lot of information but he made sure to point out common errors or things that riders should/shouldn't do. Everything is handled very professionally here. Every bike is in pristine condition, the staff is so easy to work with, and this is just such a fun experience! We originally only rented the scooters for one day, but after just a few hours on them, we knew we needed to extend our rental. We ended up renting the scooters for three days. The pricing is the best on the island -- $80 for three days on the 49cc scooters! We travelled all over the island on our scooters, and it was sooo much better than traveling by car. It's way easier to park with scooters! We never had to worry about parking at the beach because you can park your scooters anywhere. You can also rent bikes and tandems here! Decided last minute to come to Maui and wasn't willing to commit to renting a car since I was by myself. While taking the bus around I noticed that a lot of people were riding scooters. Honestly it looked like a lot of fun, but what convinced me was that the most basic scooter was only $35 for 24 hours!! So I called the shop to see if they had any available for the day and just my luck they had one left. (They have a weekend special where you can get Sunday half off). They're closed on Sundays so plan accordingly. Everyone I encountered was extremely pleasant, after I got checked in and everything the girl working gave me a run down of how to use the moped. Before sending me out in the streets she directed me to an empty parking lot right by the shop that I could practice in as well as the neighborhood behind that doesn't get a lot of traffic. The mopeds are so fun!!!!! I highly recommend getting one if you don't have a car, I was riding to different beaches until I found the perfect one. I was originally going to keep the scooter for the weekend but I had a little mishap that who I assume is the owner was very kind and professional about. * If you plan on only using the scooter for the day they close at 5pm so you must bring the scooter back by 4:30/4:45PM. * The scooters also go up 40MPH so make sure you either have some kind of glasses on to protect them from the wind. If you're a false eyelash lover like me, do not wear them!! The wind + false eyelashes = no bueno. * Helmets are not required but they do offer them for free! read more

Seat didn't lock, Speedometer didn't work, and when I returned it the owner claimed I was seen with a passenger. Which is against the rules... and since he saw it in town he wanted to charge me 350$. I said you are charging me with hearsay and no proof. He then changed his story and said a police officer told him. So I offered to call and obtain proof from the officer. I thought it might be fun to rent a scooter for Dad and I while we stayed in Maui last month. It ended up being one of the more cathartic moments of my life. Instead of tooling around Kihei for a few hours and returning the scooter, I decided to ride it all the way up Highway 30 back to our rental condo in Honokowai. There's nothing quite like riding along the Maui coast on their major freeway sans helmet with the sun, wind and all things Maui surrounding you. NOTE: I do not endorse riding without a helmet. BEST DEAL, NICEST STAFF, COOLEST SCOOTERS ON MAUI! On our third vacation to Maui, we had to fit in a scooter day, it's tradition after all. Having never been to Kihei and having only rented in Lahaina, we wanted to shop around a bit. You just never know what you're going to get with these rental places. Are they going to overcharge me? Are they going to try and sell me insurance? Are they going to try and sell THE SCOOTER TO ME TO TAKE HOME? After speaking with another scooter place and being quoted 35$/day for 3 days, we decided to check out Hawaiian Cruisers because I had read online they offered 80$ for three days. You read that right, 80$ for THREE DAYS. As in you can scoot scoot for one day, and then SCOOT SCOOT FOR TWO MORE DAYS! In Lahaina we were charged just under that for like 3-5 hours. Ridic. The staff were so amazing. Very prompt to serve us, very courteous, very friendly. They seemed geniunely happy to help out. We felt comfortable renting from them right away. The scooter I'd received (a 49cc) was actually a BRAND NEW Scooter! Only 19kms on it. How fun is that! I was commenting on how much I loved the Buddy Scooters (ours were the Tao Taos) and the staff member even told me where I could go rent one if I wanted to. Just really nice people. The staff went thoroughly over the scooter and made sure we were comfortable with it before we left. We proceeded to have the BEST 3 days in Kihei thanks to Hawaiian Cruisers and their awesome scoots. Did I mention they even let you go all around Maui with them if you want? You just have to find your own way back if you break down. But we had the best time poppin into Kahului and Paia. Located in the Azuka (spelling?) Plaza, you'll find Hawaiian Cruisers in the far back with a big sign that says MOPEDS! Don't be stupid, get your arse into HC today and have the best vacation on Maui ever!!! If you are looking for the best place to rent a scooter on Maui then seriously you've found it. You cannot beat this deal. I almost paid $60 for 5 hours at a place in Lahaina. After renting from this place for 24 hours for $35, I'm so glad I rented from here. It literally takes 5 hours to become completely comfortable with these things. I ended up renting a 50cc and for somebody who's never ridden a motorcycle like me, it was perfect. My girlfriend also rented one with the same level of experience and had zero problems beside the occasional big truck that zooms by a little too close. We didn't take helmets, but we were FOOLS not to. You can easily stow them in the compartment under the seat if needed, along with other beach going/day trip items. Not to mention they'll train you on everything you need to know about the bike for your trip. We rode out to Lahaina, then to Haiku, and then to Big Beach and back over our 24 hour trip. It was insanely fun, and to be completely honest I didn't really get a feel for the island until I took advantage of the adventure that Hawaiian Cruisers offers for a completely fair price. I rented a scooter from them for 3 days and it was such a great decision. Seeing the island with the open air around you is just an immense experience. The staff at Hawaiian Cruisers were all super helpful. I rented the 'island cruiser' level (requires motorcycle license) as I wanted something that could carry a passenger and be able to make it everywhere around the island. I did the road to Hana and went up to Haleakala all on the scooter. There were 2 scooters available for that class and they went over the specifics of each one. When I wanted to exchange the half shell helmets for full face, they said no problem. Overall, an excellent experience and I would definitely rent from them again if I'm back in Kihei. And the Tesoro gas station across from them also seemed to have the lowest gas price in Kihei so that was another plus. read more

After searching the island for the best place to rent a scooter I found their sign outside of their shop along Kihei Rd. They are the CHEAPEST on the island at $35 for a 24 hour rental. The owner was great, the scooters were all new as well. The scooters looked like they were all 50cc which was perfect as I have not ever riden on a motorized 2 wheeled anything. They offered helmets, goggles and anything else you needed to go along your way. I recommend to come here if you are looking to rent a 50cc scooter, the forms were quick and simple and the best was I was able to give him 35 bucks and have the bike for 24 hours. Our ride went from the store all around the West Maui Mountains on less than one tank of gas. It was amazing to see the island from the perspective of zipping around on a little bike.
