My family and I have stayed at Maui Sunset multiple times including 2016, 2017, and 2019. We had reservations to go and stay again in 2020 and obviously COVID put the brakes on that plan. Until now it has been our favorite place to stay. Affordable, amenities are great, and location to everywhere else on the island is great. Our cancelled 2020 trip landed us a credit to be used by end of 2021. We had planned on going until the Governor went on the news asking visitors to please not visit due to rising cases. We were going to let our niece and new husband take our spot for their honeymoon, but when the governor made his plea, we contacted Maui sunset stating that at this time we would like to just keep it as a credit to be used by the end of the year with hopes things would improve and to help the locals have the resources needed to fight the rising number of cases. Unfortunately Steve, apparently one of the owners of the rentals at Maui sunset misinterpreted my request and now refuses to allow us to use our credit. He states we never actually cancelled even though after numerous emails back and forth it shows where we asked to keep it as a credit to be used before the end of the year. After not getting responses back from emails we decided to call and speak with him to get this sorted out. When we read exactly word for word the email we sent he stated that he could see now where we cancelled but if you read it it could be taken differently and so there will be no credit or refund!!!!! He even told us in an email that it had to be used by end of year no exceptions, but says that was just a response to a question, not acknowledgement of cancellation. We even stated that his misinterpretation shouldn't mean that we should just lose over $2400. He refused to take ANY responsibility and even laughed at me on the phone. THIS IS NOT A PLACE YOU SHOULD WANT TO STAY OR SUPPORT!!!! I will gladly be visiting Maui many times in the upcoming future and not 1 penny will be at Maui Sunset. read more

Very disappointing stay. This is an agency renting condos for a third party. Each unit is independent of the others, so there is no consistency. The unit we rented had no cell service or wifi. It was severely outdated with curtains so old they were cracked with age and covered with water stains. The carpet was crunchy and stained as well. The advertised queen bed was an old broken full size bed. Each unit also has a timer on the a/c which turns it off after two hours. read more

My new husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We were able to get it through the timeshare. From the outside when pulling up makes you a little hesitant but once you get in the condo was very nice, clean, spacious, and great great view! We were on the top floor and were able to see the sunset from our room. The grounds were nice with a clean pool and hot tub. The beach is also there but not a lot of room to steak out for the day. Just nice to go down and watch the sunset. Always a great breeze and always a great view no matter where u are. It's also nice because there are lots of stores and restaurants right down the road. The information desk at the pool offers good discounts too. I suggest staying here again! read more

First let me set the tone that I travel all the time, work and leisure. Staying away from home is not foreign to me. The only difference is someone else suggested these accommodations via their time share. A few notes that you might find helpful. Every condo is not treated equal. Negative. There are different property owners/mgmt companies for different condos. Some own multiple. My travel was booked via RCI time share. This unit was very outdated. Furniture and bedding outdated. Cabinets appear to be originals. Televisions not flat screens. Carpet ewww! Stove a refrigerator were more than 20 years old. No range just a microwave on the counter which was very old. Come on microwaves are super cheap at Walmart! It's 90+ degrees in Maui, I should be able to run my AC as long and cool as I like. Negative. They are set on timers, max about 4 hours. After returning from a hot sticky day, I was back in a hot sticky condo. Kitchen utensils, washer/dryer and towels available. Positive. Not to mention the other household items/conveniences you may need. Vacuum, boogie boards, hangers, brooms and mops. The outside of the property driving up tells the story. The grounds and pool are nice but overall I was very disappointed. For the price I paid, I could have been in a nicer hotel in Wailea with nicer beaches in walking distance. If you are also looking for the wow experience when you are in your sleeping quarters this will not give you that. Reviews are subject to taste level true. Perfect family vacation condos. We have an ocean view, a pool, a kitchen and a washer and dryer. Everything else is icing. Location is great - close to shops, restaurants and beaches. We are really close to Safeway and Long's, which is key when you're traveling with kids. The price is reasonable. The place is well kept and very clean. Modern too - we got the wireless Internet access for the week for an extra $40. The condo was well stocked with things like a coffee maker ( for that Kona coffee you have to start your day with), beach chairs, boogie boards and a blender (for those pina coladas in the evening). Lots of fun stuff for the kids to do - pool, shuffle board, tennis and when all else fails - or they're just too tired, there's cable. Plenty of families staying here, so my 8-year-old has found kids to play with every time we've been to the pool. We would definitely stay here again. read more

I am an owner, so of course my review is biased. However, the reason I am an owner is because after doing my homework, this truly is the best condo in South Maui and is the most occupied. I sublet the unit to a management company (America Resort Marketing) and will say their attention to detail is what has made my experience exceptional. I keep my unit well maintained and nicely furnished with new furniture and local art. Our tradition has been to buy something for the condo on each visit. With all this said, I recommend that you get pictures of the unit before renting. AMR keeps their units well maintained, I do not think they would manage a unit in poor condition. Ours needed some work when we bought it a few years ago, but today we are proud of it and the compliments in our guest book. read more

Oceanview condo right on the Kihei strip. You can see the sunset every evening right from your balcony. Our unit was clean and fully stocked with 1 bedroom, full kitchen, 1 3/4 bathroom, washer and dryer, towels, all kitchen ammenities and utensils, and so much more. There was not anything to give us any discomfort during our stay. I especially liked it because it felt like home for the 10 days we were there. The place also has a pool, jacuzzi, gym, tennis court, shuffle board and a park. Oh yeah, one other thing...our unit came with a pet. This is our third time coming here. This time we stayed on the "A" block one unit 315. This side is way to hot as you never get the shade. In the future will always stay on the "B" side. We love the amenities of Maui Sunset. The pool is good and the view is amazing no matter which unit your in. The pool lady needs to change jobs as she is not a happy camper and has been there for about 4 years. The complex always brings in very friendly people which is a fun conversation around the bbq. As for our unit this time (315) it needs to be updated as it has carpet in it. Including around the bathroom sink. The furniture also needs a once over as it's well worn. read more

I'm at the tail end of my week long stay in the Maui Sunset condos. I couldn't be more pleased with our stay. This is a kid friendly complex. We are a family of 3 (my husband and I and our 8 year old daughter.) My brother and his family with 2 kids (9 & 5 years old) stayed in a two bedroom and we had a one bedroom -- both units on the A wing. As others have mentioned, I think it's better if you can rent directly from the owner on VRBO rather than booking from the Maui Sunset website. I rented directly from the owner on VRBO after much research and I had fabulous upgraded unit with a superior view. My brother who paid much more than me (more than double what I paid though ours is a smaller unit) had a unit that was not as nice as ours. This place doesn't look like much from the road. You shouldn't be deterred by it. The units are nice and the grounds are very nice. All the amenities are there from the kid friendly pool, tennis courts to being right on the beach. I've heard this beach is not very nice and full of seaweed. This week the water has been pretty clear and not good for swimming, it was great to building sand castles and watching the sunsets. We particularly really like the location. You are close to a number of highways towards all the major sites. It was just 15 minutes to Maleaa bay where we took the snokeling trip. It was a 2 hour drive to Haleakala crater. About 20-25 minutes to Lahaina. It's easy to get to any part of the island fairly easily. I would definitely stay here again. I might try to get an oceanfront units (which I would guess start at x11 or so -- higher the number more view of the beach.) and look at the B wing. In the June timeframe, the sunsets can be seen from the B wing -- A wing not so much. read more

We booked this one bedroom, two bathroom condo (aka. ultimate home away from home) for our honeymoon- late April/early May. This was a fully furnished unit, equipped with nice furniture, some art, and many amenities,like a Washer/Dryer (in the unit), cooking equipment and a helpful guest book that I read, for tips. Naturally, there were some house rules, which was not unreasonable- basically, buy supplies like paper products and dish soap, bring no sand into the unit, and take the trash out (all makes sense). Everything was full sized- the washer/dryer, the refrigerator, the stove, the closet, etc. There was a breakfast bar (had breakfast here a couple times- went to Foodland, signed up for the card, saved $ on groceries), a lounger (comfy- one of us fell asleep on it), dining room set (rattan), a bookcase (yes books), a tv and small entertainment center with vcr and vhs tapes, and chairs on the lanai (my husband sat out there every morning). In the bedroom was a bed, dresser, and end table. The bathrooms were nicely decorated and had towels for us to use. It was so nice here. The management office was between both buildings (one is residents only, the other is sublet). Since it is condo units, no maid service here, but that's ok. There was a station for trash and recylables not too far away from the building. The expansive grounds were lush, beautiful, and very green- well manicured. There were two pools but we never made it there. There was no beach, near the property. There was water and seaweed but not any sandy areas to lay out. We keep saying that we gotta get back to Maui. Just got back from staying at this place and after the experience there I was looking forward to going back home. If you have children Maui Sunset is NOT the place to go. We were aggressively approached many times by aggressive elderly owners that patrol the grounds (especially the pool area) If you have children they will harass them also. Many watch from their balconies and call in complaints to the front office. We finally talked to employees at the pool and to the lady at the front, no action was taken and the harassment continue for over a week. Was so happy to go home. Also watch out for the water on the ground while walking to the elevator had a few people get hurt slipping. read more

Not kid friendly community at all! Bunch of old people (I guess they are residents) sitting around the pool - they complain about us because our 2 years old kid was crying there. We tried so hard to clam her down but it's not always easy when dealing with kids, right?? But those heartless, inconsiderate and selfish old people complained and blamed us. Horrible people, seriously. Is this a nursing retirement home or something where elderly people do not have any tolerance for kids behavior?? You guys enjoy the rest of your life here at Maui Sunset. No worry, we NEVER come back here. Rather, we'll enjoy much better place where everyone is kind, thoughtful and considerate for others, especially for kids. read more

My favorite place lately for sunset. Large open grassy area connected to the beach with tennis courts throughout. I love bringing my dogs here for their daily walk to get out and be able to socialize. Not only are there great people to start chatting with that are visiting from all over, but many people living nearby bring their dogs (so the center area by the tennis courts is basically a dog park). I love it! The sunset is gorgeous here and a great place to unwind at the end of the day. read more

We come here every year, and have always been pleased with the service and quality. Not this time. We were given a great view, and the condo was clean. But, the kitchen was under stocked with hand towels and basics. We had a two bedroom with six people, and the mattress in the sofa couch was the most uncomfortable I've ever used. Obviously old and lumpy with wire poking us. We've also had very poor service, with Cheryl not very good at guest relations. We didn't have a chance to use the TVs for two days, but when we did, they didn't work. We called Cheryl to let her know, and admittedly it was Saturday right before closing. She got very huffy, even though we weren't asking her to come out and fix it. We were asking if there was a problem, or was there something we didn't know. We actually fixed it ourselves, because someone had switched the hdmi cables. But Cheryl was not very helpful, and a bit cross. Finally, the homeless are a bit of a problem. Found one in the hot tub, and several under the trees on the property. When we alerted the front desk, we were told they don't do anything about it, unless they're bothering people. There are children here, and it seems a bad idea to have to pass closely by them on the way to the beach. I hope they get back to their previous standards. read more

Yes, I am a fan. I have been home now for about a week and am reflecting on my families time there; wife, and two teenage boys. We had a fantastic 14 days. The grounds are immaculate, the grass is bear foot grass all day long. The bbq' s are cleaned daily, very clean, Webber, and offer a great chance to cook. The pool is good size, offers hot tub, bocce ball, shuffle board, and paddle board use are great options. Bocce around the great are a great way to take a morning walk or begin your evening sunset and bbq activities. The SUP cost $15 an hour and get there right at 8. Afternoon is not so great. Wear water shoes at this beach. The community at this location is fantastic. Everyone seems to get why we are there. Everyone seems to respect the privacy. Sunsets are a communal experience, and a great vantage point. Ice is offered at the pool for your daily excursions. That is very nice. We are returning. Pleasant experience. We booked through groupon deal. No communication from any one after we bought groupon. We arrived late 7:50 a.m., office was already close (actual time was 8a.m to 8 p.m.) we called the number noted on the door of office. on site building manager picked up, he asked few security questions to validate and then gave us code to lock-box which had emergency key to condo. it was on 4th floor, partial ocean view as promised in the deal. Very clean, every thing you need was in there, high quality cutlery, vacuum, surfboard, videos, games, two extra sleeping beds (one pull down and one sofa), apart from master bed. Two bath rooms. Two room AC's on in bed room and one in living. fan each room. There were lots of games, Tennis, golf and Hawaiin games, which you can borrow for free from 8 a.m. to 10 pm. Quiet, clean and safe place. I would love to go there again. It definitely worth the money. read more

Okay, the room, wasn't "bad"; how ever, the pool side " Hawaiian Style Activities", which is represented through "Maui Sunset" needs to be reported to the better business bureau! I simply asked about an activity, next thing I know, I am being charged for something I did not ask for, and when I ask to cancel was told "NO"; and the person running the booth, refused to return my credit card! After several request and a threat to call the police, the credit card was returned to me! Later the manager, reprimanded ME! for "raising my voice and threatening to call the police on a "non-emergency matter"! HE needs a new line of work! Or some customer service lessons! read more

This is a beautiful Oceanside condo in Kihei. We especially liked being away from all the car traffic and pedestrians down by the kamaole beaches. Maui Sunset is surrounded by other Oceanside condo communities and residential homes. Many of the community will come to the Waipuliani beach park for sunset. A great place to watch the sail boarders too. We have met nothing but nice people there, from all over the globe. It you want to relax and have a very short walk to the beach (the pool and jacuzzi are also oceanfront), come to Maui Sunset. It's a hidden gem. The complex is very well maintained. We met the GM, who is very determined on making Maui Sunset a great place for everyone to have a fantastic vacation! read more

Booked this via groupon , stayed at a 1 bedroom ocean view on the 5th floor ( B building ) had everything we need from beach chairs boogie boards , of course all sheets and towels ( as well for the beach/ pool) kitchen was very well equipped and the property well maintained , BBQ's on shared area are of high quality and the pool / hot tub very nice , also has tennis , shuffle board and other games to borrow such as bocce, balls and other. If you're looking for fancy and new, this isn't the place but if you want something close to the beach, although you can't swim at this particular beach, very convenient to restaurants and to get to other places in Maui, this is the one. About 50 of the units are time shares so we traded our Hilton points for a stay here. We're only here for a week but I wish it was longer. Many of the folks come every year, rent the same apartment and have formed a group but they were all so nice to us. There is what they call a concierge at the pool to assist you with activity reservations but that's about it. Our time share had all the stuff we needed including a closet filled with books, boogie boards and beach chairs. Unfortunately we didn't figure that out until the end of our stay. There are several ways to stay here, like we did, own a time share here or rent from owners or the Maui Sunset. I think it's less expensive to rent from the owners directly and from what I can tell all seem to keep their rental units in very good condition. One thing to remember, if you forget shampoo or one of the sundries you'll have to go to the Longs Drug, they don't supply any of those things. Don't care if we can't trade for this place next time, I''ll just rent read more

This is the second time I've stayed here, and my BF's ex-in laws had a timeshare here, so he had been here many times. Last time we stayed (2013), everything was perfect. Beautifully updated condo, friendly, quiet, relaxing pool area. This time, a few things seemed different. One, is that being in our mid 50's, and having no children, we really liked the atmosphere, catering to an older crowd, and noise levels and horseplay at the pool being pretty non-existent. (There are even signs regarding that). This December, after we were there for a few days, more young children and tweens checked in. This was noticeable, as the pool area became noisy, with kids running, jumping, throwing things, and leaving the noodles all over the pool area. so when trying to relax and read, we were splashed, and ran by, into, etc. I mentioned this to the front desk, and they said they would "pass it on," but things only became worse, as more families checked in. It used to be that the people manning the desk at the pool would help with the pool area, but they didn't even look up from their computers. It was too bad, as the older guests would do as we did: Come down as soon as the pool opened, and stayed for an hour or so until the noisiness began. This extended to the grounds, as well. I think that most of the older owners are renting more, and this is why no one seems to want to do anything about it. We also noticed that there were more people walking their dogs onto the grounds, from the state park area. These people didn't carry bags with them, so we did notice doggy doo on the grounds. Also, the last evening we were there, the hot tub was only lukewarm. The other nights, it was hot, so that was disappointing. If this becomes more of a kid-oriented place, even though we like staying at Maui Sunset, we may look into somewhere different, that caters more to adults, the next time we are in Maui. read more

My boyfriend and I just came back from Maui and were honestly so pleased with Maui Sunset. I read some of the negative reviews on yelp and find it kind of ridiculous that people are giving a place a bad review because they didn't let you check in till 3.... Umm, fyi it says it specifically when you book that check in isn't until 3 (but whatever). Anyways, we got there maybe 30 min early as well and were willing to wait and walk around a little bit but the lady at the front desk gave us our room anyways. Going into the room I was honestly expecting it not to be so great, but I was so happy with my choice to stay at maui sunset. They had literally everything we needed. It was a little outdated and didn't have a "flatscreen" but who cares as long as it is nice. If you want a flat screen tv then go pay double the money someplace else. People have to realize that these are privately owned places, some of them will have furniture that isn't brand new. We probably had one of the most outdated rooms but we were still so pleased and amazed of how great it was. We had an amazing stay at Maui Sunset and will definitely make sure this is our spot next time we go to Maui. read more

We stayed in one of these rentals last year and really enjoyed it! The Condo had everything we needed during our stay from kitchen utensils to beach toys and lawn chairs! We had a ocean view room with amazing sunset/sunrise view! The grounds (grass area), pool & tennis court were kept up really nice. The beach area was pretty rocky, you couldn't really swim or walk on the sand without shoes. However there are plenty of nice beaches near by that we drove to for the day! Would return. read more

Book with caution stayed there 2 years ago in a lovely room. Made reservations for October 8th 2018. Arrived at room which claimed to be renovated m the only new renovation was new carpet. There was rat poop in the kitchen and in the oven. The refrigerator had ants inside. The beds had dirt or dust bunnies under the covers. The pool was closed, and at our time of booking in June we were not informed of this. We spoke to Steve at the management company he offered to send someone up to look at the room, we waited. No one came, Steve offered us another room and 200 of the total bill. The new room was nice, but had cockroaches. We declined. Steve stated to us he would give us a 100 percent refund due to the fact we were never told of the pool closing. He changed his mind and then offered us 50 percent. We had to stay at another place and pay much more for less space. We are now fighting the charges on the credit card. We will never stay or recommend the Maui sunset, and some of us have been staying there for over 10 years. read more

First, let's get something clear, the two stars reflects the quality of unit 220B and not the Maui Sunset in general. As other reviewers have noted, the units are owned independently and vary in quality substantially. We were able to get a peek into some of the other units and they looked amazing. I also have to point out that our booking agent did give us a heads-up about the quality of the unit and tried to get us into a better unit even before we arrived, but the place was filled to capability. So this review is really for the benefit of anyone considering 220B and hopefully the owners of the unit itself. The unit is tired, old and rundown with original cabinets, doors, stove etc. An attempt was made of remodel the bathrooms but it has to be one of the worst tiling jobs I've seen. The master bath has a rusted steel shelf installed in the shower that takes up a substantial part of the enclosure. Tiles in the hallway are loose and the whole unit could use a coat of paint. Appliances and kitchen utensils need attention with the exception of a new fridge. All in all not very pleasant but good enough to be a base during our 9 day stay on the island. Regarding the facility itself, it has a beautiful manicured lawn, tennis courts, shuffle board, nice pool and ample chairs to accommodate a full house, great views and a great location. I'd return as long as we got a better unit. read more

Numerous positive things about this resort; great view, nice pool area and can't beat the park area right on the beach. We've stay there twice this year for a total of 15 nights in both A and B building. So why only 3 stars? On our last afternoon on Maui (3 days ago), our rental vehicle was broken into (offsite) and we spent that evening filing a police report. Among the things stolen was a backpack that had our condo room key in it. When we finally got back to the resort we told them what happen and they still charged us the $25 lost key fee. To me it's not about the money...that's just bad customer service. Having your car window broken and your belongings taken from you is quite a stressful ordeal, especially on vacation. The fact that they could have cared less and showed no compassion spoke louder than the great view! read more

Stayed at a premium partial ocean view, room 209. Downside was that I thought we would be higher up because we didn't really see the ocean from our lanai. Good part was that even though we weren't higher up, the premium rooms are newly renovated and included washer/dryer plus kitchen. Weird smell upon opening closet doors and kitchen cabinets though. Overall good stay with all the supplies you will need like utensils, kitchen necessities, beach towels, boogie boards, etc... Would stay here again in the future. read more
