This was our first trip to Maui, and honeymoon, and I had SO many questions. Brete was patient and such a great resource. You can really feel the aloha and pride they have for Maui. Not only was he helpful in our Airbnb chats, but he had one of the most thorough guidebooks at the condo. And a lovely touch, we had a handwritten welcome note and a few Maui treats to start our stay! Now on to the condo, G110 in the Ginger cluster (so cute) this is such a beautifully appointed home with the most wonderful patio (lanai) view! I am not a morning person, but I was up by 6:30 with my coffee on the lanai enjoying the sounds of the island waking up. The patio alone is reason to book this condo! All sorts of birds and of course, the famous Maui chickens, walk the lawn. One morning I saw a cute little mongoose of some sort! That was definitely not on my bingo card, but a magical moment. Also, the property is immaculate in its care...beautiful landscaping and I loved the Christmas decor. We had our own parking spot super close to the unit too. There is something so special about traveling to an island during Christmas time...we ended each night cuddled on the comfy couch watching holiday shows. Speaking of comfy, even though I don't prefer a soft bed, I slept like a baby in the master bedroom. I really appreciated having 2 bathrooms, to get ready faster for our adventures! There's even a 2nd lanai right off the bedroom, beautiful light in the mornings. Brete is thoughtful to offer beach chairs and fun equipment for the beach, saving us more money for Mai Tais! I love to cook at home, but I took the honeymoon off...I did look into the kitchen, and not only do they have a lovely new stove, but they also had everything you could possibly need if you wanted to whip up meals. We only used the stove to reheat leftover kalua pork & pineapple pizza from South Shore Tiki Lounge. Please don't judge, it's fantastic with jalapenos! We ADORED our stay in Kihei, it's such a great middle point between Lahaina and Wailea. So many wonderful beaches close by, Kamaole 1, 2, and 3, as well as Keawakapu. Parking was a breeze at all of these beaches and if you love snorkeling, you must add Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve to your list, 25 minutes south! My list of faves from our time in Kihei: Water: We rented paddle boards from Aunty Snorkel, great service and integrity. Ask for Mark or Jake! They checked conditions before completing our transaction, there's no refunds for weather or wind conditions. Ultimate Whale Watch & Snorkel-the highlight of our trip, based in Lahaina. Try and reserve a tour with Captain Jill and Casey. I am an avid snorkeler and have been on countless excursions. These two ladies were so knowledgeable, and you could feel their "malama kai" care for the ocean. Two snorkel stops & we were fortunate to see whales, even though it was super early in the season November 28th!!! Breaching, blow spouts and three whale tails, great show. I can only imagine how it is in the swing of the whale season. Food: Nalu's South Shore Grill had the best island pancakes, and my hubs raved about their fried mahi fish and chips (the chips were tempura green beans, yum) Three's Bar & Grill had the best Happy Hour, top-shelf Mai Tais for $9 and an extensive HH food selection. Ask for Paul's section or sit at the bar with Chris...yes we went twice! FYI, there is a Maui HH app you can download and search by city! Ululani's Shave Ice-get the Roselani's ice cream in the middle and the milk topper, you won't regret it! South Shore Tiki Lounge is in the perfect spot, right next to Kihei food truck's (must get the chicken katsu curry at Happy Belly) and shopping at Kihei Kalama Village. My tip, sit in Janey's section & have a few HH drinks and listen to live music here! Great way to unwind after a day of water activities. Kahale's Bar- I love a dive bar and Kahale's fit the bill! Local live music by Kenny K. Roberts and bartenders Dylan, Jeff, and "Stiffy" were an entertaining cast of characters! This condo is also really close to a Foodland (a Maui supermarket institution that is not to be missed!) The salt & vinegar chicken wings are to die for, and they have a fantastic deli, lots of great poke & local treats. Finally, we cannot recommend more, the talented artist Kiko Yamada, Ninjasketch! I had been following her for over a year, we had our honeymoon caricature done at Kalama Village. It was such a pleasure to meet her and hear her story. Our partial ocean view was exactly what the pictures showed on the website. A microwave or toaster would be a great item to add to the rooms, or at least near the vending machines on each floor. Beach access- BEAUTIFUL. so close. Constant views. The beach is seconds away from the resort. Maui brewing co also has ocean front views and was super nice for sunset. Resort- the pool was cleaned every morning and always warm. Plenty of seating options around the pool and around the resort in general. The vegetation was really nice. All staff were SO kind. The grounds always seemed clean and relaxing. Cultural classes- absolute favorite part of our trip. We had so much fun learning about the Hawaiian culture through story telling, history, garden walks, lei ceremony, lei making, and wood carving. Overall we had such an amazing experience, learned so much, and had constant beautiful views. Only complaint is that I wish there were more food options at our resort, or microwaves. Maui Brewing Co was okay, but limited. Whalers Village is a quick walk and has a variety of options.

We booked through Costco travel (airfare, hotel, car) and this was the hotel we picked…read more LOCATION (5/5): fantastic! the beach is steps away so you don't need to drive to the beach. There's the popular outdoor mall, Whaler's Village about a 5 minute walk away with restaurants and shops, just follow the beach path. LUGGAGE STORAGE (1/5): We arrived a bit early and the staff held onto our luggage while we went out to get food. I didn't see where it was taken. I did not realize that they would store our luggage outside in the humidity!!! I thought they would store it inside the hotel in a closet in the back. I had temperature-sensitive medication in my luggage and when we came back to check-in, I was shocked to find our luggage stored outside. Had I known that, I would have asked them to store my meds in the fridge for me. Thankfully, my meds were okay in the end, but it did give me panic. PARKING (5/5): Since we booked through Costco, the parking was included with our stay. We had in/out privileges and no valet required. STAFF (5/5): I forgot her name, but she welcomed us very friendly and checked us in. Michelle I think was her name. We asked about local places to eat and she kindly wrote us a list. The housekeeping staff was also very nice and always greeted us in the halls. SHUTTLE/TROLLEY (5/5): There's a free green trolley that will take you to Whaler's Village and came around every 30min or so (check the schedule) and will also drop you off at nearby hotels along the beach, not just the Outrigger. Also, the hotel has it's own private shuttle that will follow the same route within the resort grounds if you don't want to wait for the trolley. Again, they don't exit the resort.One night we went to a nearby hotel (The Bungalos) for a music event but had just missed the trolley and the guys out front said they could drive us in the hotel van. And then gave us a number to call them when we were ready to go back to the hotel, so we called them but wanted to go to dinner at Whaler's Village after and they took us. So so convenient. really nice guy! It's complimentary but we tipped our driver and he was always so kind! We read in the handouts that they did a special going-away ceremony at the end of your stay but unfortunately we had to miss it to catch our early flight, so Michelle was kind enough to give us the necklace and do a mini version for us there at the check-out counter. POOL (1/5): We didn't even try the pool. It's quite small in size, and it was so hot, and no shade anywhere, so we didn't bother. They did provide towels though that you could swap out and stuff, so we used those and just went to the beach. RENTALS: There's a hut on-site where you get the towels, but also offers rental stuff for the water, beach chairs, etc. Note: the beach chairs + umbrella rentals are quite steep, I think was like 2 chairs + 1 umbrella almost $85 and had to return by 5pm. We ended up going to Costco and instead and bought 2 tommy bahama chairs and umbrella and used them the whole week while we were there, and even used our chairs at other places too. We saved some money that way and used that money instead to tip the staff and buy food in Maui b/c it ain't cheap! ACTIVITY SCHEDULE: We were given a print-out at check-in with activities throughout the week, however we showed up to one of them and there was nothing going on but there was a gentleman there. We were told that the print-out was outdated so we had missed the activity since it was earlier in the week. So don't go off the print-out. He had a different schedule available at his table. So..there's that. Overall, I would not mind staying here again but would be interested in staying at the other hotels along the Kanapali beach.

Would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!…read more Here's why. Stayed at the Koa Resort, unit 4G, 3bedroom, 2 bath condo costing ~$721/night for 7 days. The facilities are generally nice and well kept, the location is good for exploring Maui. Our unit though had its problems. The central AC was on the fritz and was in repair transition when we arrived, no notice. Each bedroom had a portable AC unit in it that took up room and was noisy. The resort staff wanted us to let workmen into the condo to do final repairs during our stay. Some of us were quite tired from fatigue from running a marathon the previous day and erratic sleep because of our second big problem. There was a rat in the condo! First signs were evidence of fruit on the counters being chewed and rat turds. Two of our group had seen the rat scurry by out of the corner of their eye, and one had felt it climb over them in the night. We called the resort staff and they sent over a guy who brought over 3 bait traps, 2 for mice (?) and one rat sized. We thought the rat was home basing in one of the owner's closets. So, put the rat trap in that closet and stuffed a towel under the door to trap him inside, if indeed it was in there. We packed most of our food in the refer and cabinets, but unfortunately an avocado was left out one night and was chewed on. Great! In the night, my son heard it digging out the carpet so it could get under his door and into his room. Then felt it crawl over him to get to the window. He waited patiently and actually got a photo of it. Yep, a good size rat. We asked for spring traps and we bought some peanut butter for bait. Mind you the staff never called to see if the bait traps had worked, no follow up. How common is this? Once we had the spring traps, 2 mouse sized and 1 rat sized. Why the mouse traps? We know what a rat is. Baited the rat trap in the afternoon with peanut butter and set it by the stove. Five of us were milling around the condo but not in the kitchen when 10 minutes after setting it, we heard the trap snap. We looked and there the little darling was in the trap, broad daylight. We got it! Should I send them an invoice for de-ratting their condo? We did not get any compensation by the resort for the rat or AC problems, though I did ask for a 10% discount. No such luck. Me thinks this is a common problem there. So, would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!

The condos are all individually owned and rented through a single agency/organization - but the 4 different rooms we had in our family were all great. We had one place (a two bedroom/2 bath) right on the grass field overlooking the water. It was heavenly to wake up in the morning and sit on the lanai listening to the birds and waves. Every evening we would gather en-mass on the lanai and have drinks and watch the splendor that is the Hawaiian sunset. It was awesome! Aside from the really nice accommodations, the grounds around the condos are impeccable. The landscaping is park-like. The crews are always working and they are artists. Perhaps the best thing about the place is the fact that you have access to a full kitchen. Yes, it would be great if we could have indulged ourselves a bit more with drinks by the pool (there are two pools - one more oriented toward families with kids), but heck we made our drinks and took them with us. And the full kitchen meant we could keep the kids happy all the time with food and snacks. Add to the whole package the fact that the Wailea Shopping Center is just a short walk away (and there is an upper end market at the shopping center) and the Wailea Elua Village truly is paradise. Will we stay here again? Oh yeah!

Love the golf cart transportation. The property is airy, modern and causal. I loved the communication via text of how to prepare for the upcoming storm. The one detail for improvement is parking they have luau at nighttime. If you're coming back any time in the later evening parking will be farther from the property. The power went out due to the storm and communication pretty much stopped after that. Though the reception and main tower still had power. All in all, a Beautiful stay. The pros far outweighs the cons. Def would stay again if I was staying in Lahaina.

Disappointing Experience for a First Mother-Daughter Vacation…read more My daughter and I recently stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows for our very first mother-daughter trip. This vacation was intended to be a special time for us to bond and enjoy a relaxing getaway together, but the condition of our accommodations nearly ruined the entire experience. ​When we checked into our first room, we were immediately met with an overwhelming smell of urine. It was so strong that we had to request a room change. However, once we got settled into the second room, a powerful odor of Raid chemical spray enveloped the space. The fumes were so severe that keeping the window closed gave my daughter headaches. As a result, we were forced to sleep with the balcony door open all night, exposing us directly to the outside elements--allowing moths, mosquitoes, and even birds to come straight into our room while we slept. ​To make matters worse, when we first arrived in the second room, the counters were covered in coffee stains. Thankfully, I always carry my own Clorox wipes to sanitize surfaces and clean the toilets myself, but guests should never have to do that at a resort. The housekeeping issues continued later in our stay: when maid service came to clean the room, they actually made the bed with my daughter's shirt accidentally tucked right inside the sheets. ​We also attended the resort's luau, which was underwhelming for the cost. To add to the disappointment, my daughter suffered from diarrhea after eating there, which only added to our discomfort during the trip. ​In fairness to the resort, the staff members themselves were pleasant, and Royal Scoops had very good coffee. Management also issued an $83 credit for the inconvenience. However, an $83 gesture does not nearly compensate for the severe discomfort, lack of cleanliness, and disruption to our rest caused by these conditions. ​Sadly, due to this experience, I will not be returning, and I cannot in good conscience recommend the Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows to others.

There are 4 pools on the property and it's a family friendly resort. The main pool overlooks the ocean and since it's on the beach, it's pretty convenient. I stayed here in July 2024 and saw the sunrise while having my coffee and walking on the beach almost every day. The rooms have a nice balcony and I loved watching the sunset from the grounds or from my balcony. The beach is the best part of staying here. Sand is so soft, it's unbelievable. It's a 5 min drive from all the restaurants in Kihei and parking is free on site. Management is very responsive. When I needed more coffee, they send it over immediately. Check in and check out is pretty smooth and easy process. If you are interested in staying in south Maui/ Wailea, this is a great option! I'll definitely be back.

Unit 18C is extremely noisy - do not book it…read more It is located right next to a busy road, with only a small strip of bushes separating it from traffic, which feels unsafe for children. The traffic noise is constant, so it's impossible to relax on the balcony. The map location is incorrect -- the unit is right next to the road. Also, behind the wall next to the bed there is an electrical panel, and you can hear a continuous knocking/ticking sound (every second), like someone tapping on the wall. Sleeping is very difficult. We asked management to move us to another unit and even offered to pay extra, because their website showed other units available. They refused and told us to buy earplugs and cover our ears. If you are looking for a quiet vacation, avoid Unit 18C.

Spacious, Clean, Quiet, & A COZY BED!…read more So after several stays in Lahaina I found this spot which is my favorite place to stay so far in Lahaina. It's a large read identical home converted into spacious king bed suites with a deep pool you are sharing with only a few people and friendly owner and her kids. The room was super clean and extremely comfortable. So much so I could see me staying for a month here at a time if I had that much to do while visiting.... The house is located in short walking distance to Front Street which if you don't know the area is the crowded old world street full of shops, bars and food where people endlessly stroll along all day until late night. Across the street is Shark's Pit if you are like me and want to go free diving or snorkeling with some sharks... Don't worry, there are no Great White or Tiger Sharks that I saw... Just cute little guys.... For the best deal in breakfast go to 808 Grinds not far away. For the best lunch and dinner as well as pub prices go to Spanky's Riptide which is a block away.... All in all the best value for your dollar on a nice place to stay.
