this place is more on the modern side. we came here with our lunch from the general store and they came out right away to dry off the picnic table and chairs. they are dog friendly so kody got to run around with another bulldog who was visiting. they allow dogs into the tasting room too but we opted to keep kody outside. the healdsburg wineries are known mainly for their zinfandels. and we came away with a few bottles. read more

For my birthday I was treated to a private tasting in the library room, which can comfortably accommodate 8-10 people. It is luxurious without being pretentious. Brian took care of us, and was incredibly attentive and patient with our group while demonstrating passion and knowledge about the winery and region. And the wines! So delicious - especially if you appreciate big bold flavors. The Rockpile zins are not to be missed, and definitely try the port. I have never liked thick/syrupy ports but ended up buying 3 bottles of their 'independence' port, which is perfectly balanced and pairs amazingly with chocolate. This family winery is a true Sonoma County treasure! read more

I have never had a more enjoyable visit to a winery. The focus here is on the wines. I did the reserve tasting, which is fantastic. This is a rare winery where I enjoy every wine on the list. I brought home a bunch of wine. I find it hard not to open a bottle every night, but I am trying to save some Rockpile wines for special occasions. This little family owned winery was suggested to us by another winery nearby and it turned out to be wonderful! Completely relaxed, complimentary tastings and no pressure to buy anything. We were greeted by 2 beautiful and friendly labrador dogs and the women helping us was really pleasant too. We did buy 2 bottles (2004 Mauritson Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel), considered joining the wine club but unlike some other wineries I'd been too she was quick to say we could easily decide later and fax it over at another time. Nothing worse than being pressured to buy. None of this here. If you like reds, definitely stop here for some tasty wine. read more

We love Mauritson Winery!!They greeted us with a bottle of Iron Horse champagne as a congratulations, a private library tasting with lots of information on each of their wines and full charcuterie plates, member discounts on all the wine the group purchased and a private picnic area for our lunch! Talk about amazing customer service for your members and their guests- Tom and the whole crew went above and beyond to make it a perfect day for me and my group. Haven't found a better winery yet! Actually the last winery we went to on our tour had AWFUL customer service and made me appreciate Mauritson that much more! Mauritson is one of my absolute favorite wineries in California. Their Rockpile wines are among the best I have tried. The amazing thing about this winery is that every wine they make is great. We went there for the first because we heard about the great dogs and friendly family atmosphere, and were blown away by the wines. Now we are regulars. Whoever gave them 3 stars should have appreciated the fact that they are sold out of 90% of their wines and are pouring library wines to the benifit of the customer. read more

Found myself being drawn to Mauritson after seeing their big front "M" sign and beautiful property. Tasting room was sleek and modern, with friendly and approachable staff. I found their wines to be decent, although not too memorable. I may give them another try if I find myself drawn to the big "M" sign again. read more

This place rocks. From bold zin's to sirah's so big you can spread it on toast. The first time we visited we became members and love the bi-monthly shipments. And...wait till you meet Rick in the tasting room; he always has a good story about his mother, or a dog or something random about Clay. This winery is in the heart of Healdsburg and is a MUST stop for anyone visiting vineyards. The staff is as friendly and knowledgeable as they come! Got here just as they were closing - it was during barrel-tasting weekend. Snuck in anyway (they didn't seem to mind) and had a few interesting tastes. Namely, zin and cab. Since we were rushed, didn't get a chance to really get a good feel for the place and the wine. May try back again later. read more

I love this place. While the tasting room is small, the service and wine certainly make up for it. We went on a late Sunday afternoon and only one lady was working. Two other groups were in there when we arrived and it got even busier after we sat down. She did an amazing job of taking care of everyone on her own and made a personal connection with all. I believe she was from the Midwest somewhere, maybe Michigan, and we loved her. So knowledgeable and dedicated to what she does. On top of it, the wines were great. A great choice for Healdsburg. The area is known for it's Zins and you'll find many decent wines at Mauritson. The tasting is free to Visa Signature card holders. The tasting room isn't terribly fancy but it's nice and there's an outdoor area for warmer days. The staff was quite friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. No attitude, no pushy sales. read more

My friend and I had a great time here. Beautiful grounds and great wines. The zinfandels are pretty wonderful, the reserve blend they had was excellent and their dessert wine was subtly sweet (as opposed to sickly sweet like others can be). Their Sauvignon Blanc is great. I love its crisp, dry, grassy style. The Zins however are grossly overoaked.

Mauritson Wines are among the top, if not the top, in Dry Creek Valley. The location is beautiful and relaxing, and the staff is incredibly friendly and truly know the wines. I make sure to go whenever I am lucky enough to be in Healdsburg, and I highly, highly, highly recommend you go there, too. The one-star ranter below missed out on some great wines. I think it speaks *volumes* that his friends stayed to keep having the wine even after he left in a huff over sanitary alternatives to a thief. Some of the best Zinfandels I have ever tasted were here: the single-vineyard Rockpile Zins of Mauritson's. Each of them was fantastic and yet very affordable considering the craftsmanship and low yields. For $10, which is a little steep for Sonoma Cty-- but totally worth it-- they offer a great vertical taste of four or five Zins, with generous pours. They'll show you the soil of each vineyard in little tubes and talk interestingly about the composition and terrain of each vineyard. The Jack's Cabin and Cemetery zins especially were incredible. They had run out of the Westphall so they gave me a taste of the "Grower's Reserve" which I liked best of all and bought! Jan the pourer was just lovely to me even though I lingered after closing time. She couldn't have been nicer or more knowledgeable. I felt very welcomed. I would have joined their club then and there but I had joined too many already-- it's on my list, however-- Frankly I never knew Zins could taste like this! Hooray for Mauritson! read more

Rick knew the answer to every question threw at him. "How old is a old growth vine"? The wines were amazing and the staff generous. Make sure to try the Buck's Pasture & the Rockpile Zinfandel. My third consecutive year of barrel tasting and again another winery that get's lazy and can't get it together to serve their wine out of the barrel with a thief. Last year it was Bella and jugs, this year its Mauritson Winery, in my view disgusting and what was worse they made fun of me after I left. This year there were 128 wineries participating and everyone we went to (6 others) except these jokers were serving wine out of barrels into your glass. They had a plastic tube set up to extract the wine into a carafe to pour into your glass. The twenty something's excuse was that this way it would not contaminate the barrel, so I said well if you are not tasting directly out of the barrel then I am not tasting. He laughed and my friends stayed on an tasted while hearing this weanie laugh about me leaving. NICE TOUCH MR MAURITSON. I will spend my money with David Carfaro a better value anyway, we tasted out of 8 different barrels at his place. read more

We had setup a private tasting ahead of time for this past Sunday. When we arrived they were super busy and put us at a table in with the storage tanks (not a big deal as there were other tables in there too). What made this experience so poor was the lack of customer service. We didn't have anybody from the winery to walk us thru their wines while we tasted. We just had random workers come by every 20 minutes to give us the next wine. It was like we were in a restaurant with poor service. Just not a very good experience at all. And when we complained, they said sorry that they were busier than normal and had a worker call out. So I can understand getting busier than normal, but when you have pre-booked a private tasting you should be taken care of and we were not. Even at the end when we spoke to them about our experience and wanted to take advantage of the Visa Signature deal (BOGO on tastings) they refused saying it was a "private tasting" and not eligible for the Visa deal. Believe me our experience was far from a private tasting. Thus we will never go back, which is unfortunate for the wine maker and owner that they lose customers due to how they are treated in the tasting room. read more

Loved learning about the Mauritson family, their history in the Dry Creek Valley and their influence in the Rockpile AVA. Their Zins are incredible and we especially enjoyed tasting the differences from different vineyards. And, we were especially surprised to find a Cab Franc!
