We've dined here many times over the years and always had a good experience, so I'm truly at a loss for what happened last night. Our party of five had a 7:00 pm reservation, with plans afterward. Unfortunately, the service was so slow that we barely made it out by 9:30 -- and only about 30 minutes of that time was spent actually eating. The rest was spent waiting: 45 minutes before our order was taken, another 30 minutes for appetizers to arrive, then 15 more minutes for entrees, and finally, 30 minutes to receive our checks. And the food was disappointing, too. The appetizers arrived cold/congealed, the steaks weren't cooked to the right temperature, and the fried items tasted like they'd been made in old oil. We didn't send anything back, as we didn't want to know how long it would take to correct. I understand that every restaurant can have an off night, and I appreciated that our server removed the appetizers from the bill without us asking. But this experience was so uncharacteristically poor that I hesitate to return. I'm not one to say, "I'll never come back," but I really don't want to risk another evening like this. read more

Restaurant has a cool, 1950s steakhouse appeal. That's where things stop being cool. This is hands down the worst food in Cincinnati and it's incredibly overpriced. Bland, poorly cooked steaks, potatoes that look like they were left in the oven since yesterday etc. Avoid this place, you would be better off at outback. read more

My friends and I have standing Friday night dinner plans. For the last few years we've been going to Maury's Tiny Cove Steak House pretty much every week . The cozy, retro atmosphere was the perfect back drop for and evening with our pals. Unfortunately, that all came to an end the night a ROACH ran across our table. We all saw it and jumped up at the same time. Naturally there was a little commotion while the bug was being "extracted" and the waiter got another table ready. As we were getting settled in our new booth, Matt Huesman, owner of Maury's came to the table. The first words out of his mouth were, "I'm NOT comping any meals. I'll buy you a round of drinks an that's IT" ... and he walked away. We were dumbfounded. Who said anything about a free meal??? (Not us!) So, we went on with dinner, but the evening was ruined and we wanted the hell outta there. Not so much because of the unfortunate bug incident, but for the insolent manner in which the Matt Huesman behaved toward us. At the conclusion of our meal we asked to see the owner. We just wanted a simple apology that was never offered. My friends and I calmly and politely explained our feelings about what had happened. We also attempted to convey our loyalty to and history with Maury's ... at that point the owner interrupted and said, "It wasn't even a Roach, it was a waterbug. We're done here " ...Once again he turned his back and walked away. And so did we Roach or waterbug??? When one of these critters across your restaurant dinner table, does it really matter? read more

Took 2. 1/2hrs to finish dinner. Had 3steaks brought out before one was right . First ordered medium, brought out well done second very rare, 3rd finally brought out medium took home all others were finished. Eating. Brought out checks 2 were wrong we finally had enough and just paid bill even though it was wrong. We have been going here for years but I guess Matt doesn't give a shit. Took 4 calls to finally get reservations. Recording on calls says you will get called back well left 3days no call back called later 3rd got call back. I don't know. read more

Awesome cozy little spot right in the heart of Cheviot. Food was amazing! We had the ribs and everything was hot, fresh, and huge portions. I liked the ribs better than Montgomery inn. Our last time going here. 5:30 reservation for 3, we're seated on the 1st floor in the very far back corner in a small booth. A large party of 10 or so, right next to us celebratinga birthday or something so they were having fun. We asked to be relocated but we're told all the tables were already reserved. I specifically asked the older lady that handles the reservations if all these open tables had 5:30 reservations and she said yes. I know she was lying because none of the other tables had pickles pre placed on them. And that was just in the one room we were in. I looked around as I went to use the restroom and there were plenty of open tables. 2 years ago, this place ruined our Anniversary and I swore we wouldn't be back. Now I'm for sure that I won't. Maurys is always a great west side staple. I got the lamb chops and it was like 7-8 pieces, so much for the price! It was really delish. My boyfriend got the chopped steak (not for me but he loved it) and added fried shrimp. Their rolls are SO GOOD. and they packed me two extra to go. My visit was picked as a place to celebrate my 72nd birthday. I went reluctantly after reading the reviews of others. The place was probably really nice in it's day but was run down and had not been updated in years. We were greeted by the hostess who was very congenial as was the attentive wait staff. From that point forward everything was perfect. My cocktail insisted of a perfect Manhattan served in a chilled coup. The food was equally perfect and each person at the table ordered something different. All the dishes were served at once and were hot. It turned out to be an enjoyable event. If you are like us and prefer locally owned restaurants over chains, Maury's Tiny Cove is worth checking out. We had a group on 5 for New Year's Day evening. They took our reservation and had a table for us shortly after we arrived. We ordered a round of drinks from the bar while we waited for our table to be prepared. The bar tender was super friendly and quick at getting our drinks. Once everyone had a drink in hand, our table was ready. Our server was a young man named Joey. He was attentive but not overpowering. He was helpful with our questions as several of us had never been here before. Our group shared an order of stuffed mushrooms, which were very tasty and Hanky Panks (we call them hanky pankys). They are mini rye breads topped with a mixture of sausage and cheese and baked until the bread is crispy. They were some of the best hanky panks we've had. My 12 oz rib eye was a little over cooked as I had ordered medium rare, but it was close enough and I enjoyed it along with the baked potato. My wife ordered a lemon chicken with capers and served over angel hair pasta. The small bite I tasted was delicious. read more

We were a party of 12 with a reservation some time back. It took four hours to get our dinner. Many orders had problems. One example is I had ordered my steak well-done and a friend had ordered her steak rare. I received the rare steak and she received the well-done steak. We did not complain or send them back. She ate her overcooked steak and I took my rare (raw) steak home and cooked it. Another friend received raw porkchops, twice. Another friend received his entree (lacking his side dishes) about half an hour later than the rest of us. When the server was told that he had not received his side dishes, instead of immediately going and getting them, she asked if he still wanted them which made him feel like he had to say "no." Although two or three of our party of 12 received correct or acceptable orders, most of us were sorely disappointed. We did not receive any sort of adjustment. As we were leaving, we were told that the reason there were so many problems and delays was because a cook had gotten angry, turned off the stove, and walked out and that it took a long time for the stove to come back up to temperature and that non-cooking staff had had to cook our dinner. Needless to say, all 12 of us will never visit this establishment again. read more

This place will always be my favorite restaurant hands down. It is a lovely vintage restaurant with old school music ,ambiance, and seating. All of the staff are wonderful and they have a great hostess named Sara Lee who runs around keeping everything in order. There are many signature cocktails on their list but my go-to is always a gin martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. My husband and I were there for dinner again last night. We started with the stuffed mushroom appetizer which came out piping hot in a red wine reduction. I had a Greek salad next and it had lots of lovely feta cheese and black olives with a nice dressing. It was plenty large enough to even share if I wanted to. My main and usual go to is surf & turf. The filet is always cooked perfectly to my rare order and the lobster is delicious . My husband had the lasagna which he enjoys with an old fashioned cocktail. I don't know where else you could have cocktails and dinner for two and after leaving a tip walk out with the small bill of $130. Well worth the visit but be sure and make reservations because they are very popular. read more

I used to really like this restaurant, but we have tried to eat there twice and cannot get a server to even acknowledge our existence. After about 15 minutes we've left--the first time, there was someone who stopped us and asked us what was wrong, we said no service, and they said someone would be with us, but we said Nah. The second time no one ever cared that we left. I really got on more than anything to find out what the heck had happened to the great restaurant I used to know. I always get a martini and the filet melts in your mouth. It's an old school supper club that you can easily picture the Rat Pack hanging out in. It's unchanged and classic in the best possible way! I took my wife to Maury's 70th anniversary dinner on this past Sunday and we had a blast. I got the ribeye and she got the strip. We shared the stuffed mushrooms. Our meal was fantastic all the way down to the onion tanglers on the steak. You get incredible value for the price point! Portion sizes were perfect, and the quality was fantastic. Beyond great food, the atmosphere was very neat. From the decor to the hostess - everything seemed very authentic. What a great surprise to find this place so close to Oxford. The ambiance is old school (75 years in business) with red leather seating and old panel walls. The service was fantastic and the menu is diverse with many meat and potato dishes as well as seafood. Our table ordered "Hanky Pankies" for an app then dinners of pork, lamb, BBQ ribs and shrimp. I was so disappointed with my experience. The atmosphere is very cool with an old school local steakhouse vibe. Unfortunately our service was at best mediocre. We waited forever before our server even greeted us and that remained the theme throughout our meal. We ordered an appetizer that not only had an poor presentation but also was clearly sitting for too long. All 6 of us ordered steaks and not one of us ate more than a quarter of our meal. The presentation again was off putting with limp browning lettuce holding a pile of French fried onions with another pile of ice cold steak fries that had clearly been sitting for a significant amount of time. No one at the table consumed more than a couple of bites. Perhaps had we had a better server the food would have been better but I'm not sure I would take the chance again. I also ordered an Old Fashion that was not drinkable because it was loaded with the juice from cheap artificial cherries. Lastly, I ordered an upgrade for $3.from the ( and I'm not kidding) shredded lettuce salad to the summer salad which was shredded lettuce with a couple hunks of mushy tomatoes, mushy cucumbers and slimy red onion. Every year for my birthday my wish is to be taken someplace I've never been before. This year my son chose Maury's on the west side of town. It was very unique and unexpected! They serve pickle slices at the bar and if I'm not mistaken they make them there. My son had a martini made with the pickle juice and it wasn't bad at all. We started off with carpaccio and hanky panks which apparently are a west side tradition. Top a little cocktail bread slice with hamburger, sausage, onion and cheese before heating until bubbly. I'm sure that it's horrible for you, but you can't help but like them. The yummy yeast bread came baked in its own container, too and in case you didn't get enough, they bring you more pickle slices. I got the surf n' turf which surprised me that they even had it! It's not high end, by any means, but everything was tasty so I will go back. The one drawback was that the dessert tray didn't look very appetizing to me. We skipped it and went to Graeter's Ice Cream. Someone told me tonight that they don't make the desserts there. read more
