This was my first time going to a play since elementary school, and boy am I glad I went to see one here! The cast does an excellent job turning cheesy B-rate movies into plays. I came here with one of my great girlfriends for my birthday. I enjoy dinner and a show and it was very delightful attending. The crowd was mixed between seniors and date night couples. Enjoyed every minute we spent at this theatre, the staff event coordinators actors everyone was far above par. Having purchase stair seats for a sold out show and then being moved to preferred seating was simply the icing on the cake. We cam for night of the living dead and it was worth every cent. Not to mention it's primal primal location, only footsteps away from everything DTF has to offer. Will constantly be looking out for future events from this theatre. Been attending shows at Maverick since they were at the Block. Amazing talent, great shows, intimate setting, have made this my favorite local venue for theater. Some friends and I attended last Friday's nights performance of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". It was brilliant! Fantastic! Absolutely wonderful! What a wonderful performance. The cast and crew did a magnificent job and we all had a great time. The Maverick Theater has never failed to impress me and every performance has been Broadway worthy. The Maverick is a hidden gem, and there are not enough words to convey how wonderful it is. Forget the expensive movie theater, the long lines and impersonal atmosphere. Forget staying in to watch the same tired movie of the week. Get out of the house. Attend a play. You will not be disappointed and the cast and crew at the Maverick will change your world. Be it a evening screening or an afternoon matinee, find a way to be there. Drive a car, take the bus, ride a train or fly a plane. Just get yourself to downtown Fullerton and take in a show at the Maverick and enjoy! read more

Ugh...I love this place. Seen 2 shows here (Night of the living Dead and Rocky Horror Show) and each time I walk away with a perma-grin. The theater is small and intimate, which somehow makes the shows feel more "real" and you are definitely more involved, rather than just another patron in a seat in the 28th row, seat J. It only seats maybe 50-70 people. The cast is great and they really put their whole hearts into the productions. There's even a bar here that you can hit up before the show! (i.e. get there early!) Everyone involved at the Maverick really seems happy to be helping you out and really happy you're there to enjoy what they have to offer, so the experience is great. The only downside (and this is soooo slight) is parking. It's kinda limited right around the theater (mostly street parking) so you want to make sure you get there at least 10 min before your show so you can make sure you find a spot. We've never had a problem, but it's still good to know. eh Hem. In conclusion, you should definitely go there to see one of their plays. From what i can tell a lot of them sell out, so you best get on it. This is a fantastic local theater and at their price point, it is probably some of the best show/$ you're going to find. We went there last night for the first time. We have been to quite a few other small theaters, but we enjoyed this the most. We saw Night of the Living Dead on its closing night. They did a great job of staging. It was all well done and a lot of fun. I liked the interaction and photo ops with the zombies before the show. Haven't seen something like that at other theaters. We liked it so much we bought. Tickets for Plan 9 from Outer Space, which was playing immediately afterward. It was done differently than Living Dead. It was intentionally campy and all for laughs. We liked it a lot too. We got some of the last few tickets available for Santa Clause Conquers the Martians, playing next month. We will probably make the Maverick a regular night out. It works out great with some good restaurants nearby. It is hard to find. You have to take a long flight of stairs up from Harbor Boulevard. Look for the train station and you will find the theater. read more

Took a special lady out to see Long Day's Journey Into Night and it was a very deep dark play. Great show, especially for the price. I really enjoyed my time here. I'm writing this review in hopes that the manager of the Maverick Theater will read and consider what I have to say. I've seen many productions over the past 5 years and have recommended to family, friends and business associates. Last night we attended our 5th consecutive Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and we were a little put off by a couple of things. The new theater seating you've moved the production to is most uncomfortable. This point has been stated by others here on Yelp. The seats are disturbingly uncomfortable and cause you to shift and shuffle throughout the production. Those theater seats must be 25 years old and people are no longer built like that. Yeah, I'm fat but when I go to the local AMC I can sit and watch the movie in comfort. I looked around the seats and saw that everyone was nestled close; even the average size ones. The seats on the side should be considered the norm. I don't know how you fix this because you have the same problem as airlines. Mr. Manager, you're not tiny either - you need to sit surrounded on all sides by 5 people through a show like you're asking your audience to do so you can see how iit feels like you're being shoved into a can. You won't buy candy or a soda at the intermission either. Here's an area that's getting out of hand - the charm of the show is the closeness to the players. The opportunities for interaction are numerous and the talented Vimar actor is sharp cookie who reaches to people high in the seats. The show is so popular, 60 to 70 percent of the people are return viewers. Now that they know some of the show can be interactive, some in the audience are staging themselves with products and statements so they can get in the limelight. Whereas the sporadic impromptu interaction of years past was delightful, it's starting to get annoying. "here Vimar take my sour patch kids" and people positioning their children so they get their 15 minutes of fame. Oh how cute - YUK. I realize this is one way to sell an additional beer, but truly, the funniest interaction is not the grinder kid who fist pumps with Santa Claus - it's the guys in the audience that the cast surprise when they identify the guys "look" like Santa Claus. I realize that this is what makes the show memorable, special and brings people back. It's just borderline "jump the shark" and you and the players need to keep a pulse so it's not out of hand. Finally, the change to assigned seating seems sketchy. Previous experience taught us to be very early to get a "good" seat on the center aisle. We arrive 50 minutes early prepared to stand in line and have a good chance to scramble for those "choice" seats. We have never had them and we didn't get them this time despite our efforts. We were assigned to the second row extreme right of the seating. Sitting around the perimeter in the first row we noted people who came after us while we were standing outside chatting. ? There was only one couple in front of us when the Box Office opened and they sat in the front row on the right side but farthest away from the front of stage. Very good seats. We wondered why we didn't get to sit anywhere near them? We noted that many in the front row came after we did and that some who came very late were not in the very back of the theater seating but more to the middle. We don't understand this new seating arrangement. The ticket taker said, "we want to put children in the front row" but last night we only saw one girl and three boys all about junior high age. The rest of course was the family and then some couples. Couples, obviously, don't have kids. At intermission after the Torg photo op, we watched the ticket taker come in and chat with everyone sitting in the stage right section. They were either subscribers or people she knew so she gave them what would be considered great seats. Preferential treatment is understandable as long as it's explained. But better yet, this is America and the liberty to select our own seat even from a seat chart is a National right. As a web site developer I know for a fact there are cheap shopping cart/seating apps you can purchase and install that will make everything equitable. Your audience will be safe and everyone's will understand where they are sitting. Mr. Manager, once you reply to these thoughts, I'll come back and improve the star rating. I have attended three shows so far and this theatre does NOT disappoint. Scripts, directing and acting are all superb. I was actually blown away by "Les Miz and Friends." The script is frankly genius and I suspect it will make it to NYC. Clearly the director is passionate about his art as his actors are likewise very committed. I just saw "Killer Angel's" last night and was moved to tears. The playwright did a beautiful job as we, the audience, had a seamless transition into "suspended disbelief" during battle scenes. It's a must see! I have held subscription tix to larger well-known theatres in LA and OC and the Maverick performances as a result of the talent and intimate space are frankly preferable in my book. read more

Came here for the first time with my friends Ruth and Annie to catch "Eleanor's Story" performed by Ingrid Garner. It's quaint and utterly perfect for the one woman show by Ingrid Garner -- despite the leafblower outside, which the concessions stand fellow quickly and thoughtfully muffled by placing a towel to run alongside the bottom of the door. This place is a local flavor gem, a place to go with your friends for a Saturday matinee. By the way, if you can catch Eleanor's story, you should. I wonder if it should be renamed. It sounds so worrisome with "nazi" and "Germany' in it. It really is a sweet story of incandescence and hope. I enjoyed the Maverick and it's better and maybe cheaper than the AMC/Regal with way better snacks for sale (beer and wine, people). I am really looking forward to going the next show. read more

Just saw Get Smart as part of their dinner package, and loved it. We are frequent attenders of " SCCTM", so we knew what to expect regarding the theater, but this show exceeded our expectations. Lots of improvising and interacting with the audience. The guy who plays Maxwel Smart was very funny, and it was cool to see our favorite from SCCTM vamp it up as Lady V. If you liked Get Smart, you will love this show. If you can, do the dinner package; La Vie en Rose is a cozy little restaurant with great service and excellent food. read more

My Mother and I went to their improv comedy show and were not sure what to expect. But MY were we surprised! What wonderful talent that graces the stage of the Maverick theater! Just went to this miniature theater for Spamelot and laughed my behind off...until I cried. What a fun show and a terrific theater. We will definitely be back!! Ticket prices were very reasonable as was the snack bar. Great way to spend an evening in downtown Fullerton! By the way, the parking lot is very small, but the train station parking is just across the street and had plenty of open spaces. read more

"Night of the Living Dead" was the performance I saw while I was here. I shouldn't say performance, I mean experience! I highly reccomend this on a Friday or Saturday night. Professional and affordable entertainment for intelligent people...hands down, the best venue in Fullerton.

First off, I LOVE LOVE LOVE, this theater! My husband knowing this, flew me back to the OC where we moved from several years back to meet up some friends for my birthday and take me to a play. We have seen a handful here which were all PHENOMENAL! Reading reviews, I knew the play we were going to see - Prelude to a Kiss - wasn't getting the standard raves I am use to seeing for this theater but I had hoped that maybe it was the de-robing that had rubbed some people wrong. As typical, great atmosphere with newer chairs that are a nice newer touch, easy access bar, etc... the actors were solid but I think my issue is that it wasn't the standard Maverick production that I have so loved in the past. The plays we have seen (Rocky Horror, Night of the Living Dead, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians...) have just been so top notch with interlaced comedy throughout, while I think this one tried, it was missing some of the uniqueness that I have seen in the past with many of the actors that also are part of the Improv show bringing fantastic timing and charisma to the productions. I think if this was the first show I saw at the Maverick I would have been happy, but knowing everything that they are capable of, I thought that while the actors did a great portrayal of their roles, it wasn't the production I had hoped to see there. I felt the script itself just didn't do justice to the wonderful talent involved and the awesomeness that IS the Maverick!! read more
