We absolutely LOVE this little theater!! We've been to several plays here over the years and none of them have ever disappointed!! I want to say that the theater holds maybe 75-100 people...? Comfy seats and every seat is a great view. Prices are great, our last show was $39 each. The actors are fun and you can tell they absolutely love doing what they do. They are there to make everyone happy including themselves and their fellow castmates. There is a bar with drinks and snacks, we've even seen shirts for sale! We are considering purchasing a "B Season Pass" so we don't miss out on the shows this coming year, some sell out fast! I hate to even give a great review because I don't want people to buy up all the seats from under us, but yet I want to also give this theater a huge and happy round of applause for being FANTASTIC!! We have been coming to shows at the Maverick for years. My wife bought us tickets to their incredible "Night of the Living Dead" play. It was the best surprise- I had no idea until we arrived. The Maverick puts on this play every year and it is outstanding. Their seasons always bring unique, quirky shows. From King Kong to Rocky Horror to Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. There is always something cool happening. Brian, the owner, is dedicated to theater and is a friendly, welcoming guy. The staff and actors are wonderful as well. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians never ceases to disappoint. What really makes this show is the recurring cast members that come back each year to make us laugh and exhibit their improvisational skills. Everyone is amazing and gracious in spite of doing this over and over and I'm certain no two shows are the same. I would only change one thing and that is that the theater request all guests to have a slight bit of theater etiquette. I understand this is an audience friendly show with interactions between cast and audience, some of these families do not prepare their children for how to behave nor correct inappropriate behavior during the performance. At last night's show a young boy hit "Billy" so hard with the stuffed rabbit that his glasses flew into my lap 5 feet away. We noticed "Billy" had a band aid on the rest of the show. Whether that was a joke or real, the boy should have been reined in by his parents long before because he was also talking or shouting out through the performance. The cast handled it with ultimate professionalism and rolled with the "punches" as it were. This truly shows how amazing they all are and why The Maverick is a great place to see a show. Went to see Shakespeare in love at the maverick theater. I'm a big Shakespeare fan and was excited to see the play. When I bought the tickets I was a little surprised that I wasn't given seats. Upon arrival we were handed our play bills and our seats were in the bills. Fantastic venue, extremely intimate with under 100 seats in the theater. The actors were really good and the staff was great. I enjoyed the show and look forward to coming back for future shows. There's a bar area that offers berr, wine, soda, water bottles, and snacks. Prices are incredibly reasonable for tickets and refreshments. read more

My neighbor took me to the Maverick Theater to see "Shakespeare in Love." I totally enjoyed the performance. All of the actors did an excellent job, but the two leads made the show, especially Samantha Green. I also have to say the for a small theatre, their set design was outstanding. It's a quaint little venue. Really tucked away so use GPS or give yourself time to find it. It's pretty plain outside. But I love the art deco style of the interior. We separately agreed the art and decor invoked thoughts of Victor Victoria. (If you haven't seen that movie couldn't recommended it more.) Everyone was nice and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The bathrooms were clean. The prices at the little bar were reasonable. We caught the closing night of Rocky Horror (the play) and it was amazing. Such a fun raucous show. The cast was incredible. Kudos to this theater for letting only vaccinated theater audience and for asking of wearing masks. We were worried when we were there for a performance last month and was sitting close to each other not knowing if the people next to us are vaccinated or not. The theater is small and we were crowded in together breathing the same air. We booked another performance and were going to cancel but we changed our mind and want to support them. We will continue coming with this new policy. I know they will get a lot of criticisms from anti vaxxers but the new variant is so vicious. Restaurants and theaters need to stay open if they want to survive. I just don't want to go through anymore close down. This all about the survival of the fittest. read more

Seldom give 5 stars, but this place earned it. Great dialogue, mood setting, and acting. Saw Dawn of the Dead and it was fantastic. Even took pics with the cast afterward. One area for improvement: the bartender. He seems to assume you've visited the theater before and know their process. He could be more friendly. read more

Been to Maverick Theater numerous times Those were good memories...including Night of the Living Dead Wedding Singer Chicago Hamlet has no leg (puppet) Robin Hood Frankinsten has no leg (Puppet) Get Smart It was few years ago so I couldn't remember very accurate but I think they made slightly changes of the "Night of the Living Dead" and cut down the showtime. Their zombies of all sizes and ages are still my favorite:) I love almost all of those shows I attended besides Robin Hood. I somehow get more fun from this small cozy theater than most production shows in Vegas..oh well, I like Zumanity:) now I wonder will they bring "Thor" on stage??? p.s They sell alcohol. parking lot is very small to get in and get out so just do the street parking along the Metrolink station. The Maverick Theater is a fantastic little theater in Downtown Fullerton. The Theater sits back on Walnut Ave and is not the easiest to find but is well worth the search to find it. I went here after reading numerous positive reviews for the Night of the Living Dead show they put on around this time of year. I ordered tickets online and was offered a deal to add Plan 9 From Outer Space for only $10 more. Yes, please. Both shows were great as were all of the performers. The staff was great and very helpful. As I had never attended a show here in the past I was confused as to the parking situation but they quickly answered that parking was free anywhere on the street outside. I went to the will call and was able to quickly and efficiently claim by tickets for both shows by simply giving my last name. It was nice to see a place so organized and orderly in getting people their tickets and into the adjacent waiting room. The theater is organized very nicely with a small entrance and will call window right inside. Through the curtain is a waiting room which doubles as a second performance stage. A men and women's restroom is conveniently located on the wall within the waiting room. The entire theater cant hold more than 50-60 people per show which is nice and gives you that intimate feeling when watching. The lighting and decor is nice and they also feature a bar for anyone who needs drinks. The show prices are great as well with performances around $20 and often offering discounts on double feature shows as I took advantage of. All of the cast members did a great job and many of them pulled double duty on the night I went which is a testament of their abilities in their craft. I highly recommend checking out shows here and I will definitely be back soon. Santa Claus Conquers The Martians sounds fantastically funny and I hope to catch that show soon. read more

Myself, three kids, and my mom (three generations!) went to go see their Night of the Living Dead warehouse crawl experience. It's about an hour long and essentially combines a scripted theater production with a "maze crawl" similar to what you might see at a theme park. Sounds like a simple concept, but for some reason I have NEVER seen a production like this offered before. The situation may have been borne out of necessity due to Covid, but it was PHENOMENAL. All of us remarked afterwards how it was one our favorite entertainment choices, ever. Kind of like living a movie. The actors/actresses were dedicated, the production values were unreal (a couple of "vehicle moments" blew me away), and the staging and choreography given how complex it must be to herd theater-goers through an alley, warehouse, etc., is pretty daunting. We loved every second of it. I hope they bring it back next year, but it sounds like this might have been a one-time event. Pity cause this format of entertainment is one I'd like to see a lot more of. A special shoutout to our lead, who not only had to handle fight choreography and shepherd us around, but he also had to act through a mask! The "villain" was also especially fun with his interactions with the crowd, and my kids were legitimately sad over what happened to his loved ones. And the actress in the red dress had us in stitches with the "Tinder" line. Barbara's pathos/misery felt pretty real when you're only about three feet away ... And who could forget Spencer, who made for a wonderful opening performer and was a ton of fun. Great job, crew! read more

Cute little theater in downtown Fullerton by the train. Street parking but they do have a very small lot if you get there early enough. Very small, indeed. There is a theater area where you wait for the doors to open which also has a stage. They could use it as well. Then they open the curtains to the main little theater. Only really have maybe 8-10 rows with maybe 10 sears across so no bad seat. They are creative with getting the most of out the stage. I truly enjoyed our show "Clue". Super entertaining and would attend again. They do have a mini bar in the waiting area if you need a beverage. SYOY! read more

I have great reservations about writing this review. Not that I'm going to incite a veritable gold rush of audience members, but you know how it goes: you find an awesome little place that REALLY exceeds any and every expectation, then you tell someone about it and sooner or later, it's too crowded for you to get back! Such is my trepidation with reviewing the Maverick Theater and the mind-blowing, phenomenal cast that performed the 'Rocky Horror Show' production I witnessed tonight! First and foremost, I highly recommend using your GPS or 'maps app' to ensure an easy arrival. It's not that it's extraordinarily hidden, but it is slightly off the main drag in Downtown Fullerton, actually nestled snugly behind the southbound side of the train station next to the Cornerstone Church. There is limited parking in the lot at the theater, but MORE than adequate parking along the street and adjacent area. The area has been developed over the past few years, and the local area is quaint, clean, safe with plenty of local eateries and venues to enhance your evening of entertainment. The theater itself is not huge, but certainly big enough to accommodate an sizeable audience and yet make every seat feel like prime viewing! There is a bar with a selection of beverages (beer, wine, soda, cold water, etc.) and the comfort level is absolutely serene. As I eluded, we were fortunate to take in a showing of 'The Rocky Horror Show' and I just have to say, this was one of the highest quality, supremely performed, thoroughly talented group of actors I've seen on stage virtually ANYWHERE! Admittedly, I'm biased, having been a Rocky Horror follower for the better part of four decades, but that did NOT indicate I would be ingratiatingly favorable; the threshold was pretty high in my expectations of a quality stage performance for this particular show. The cast and crew of Maverick Theater delivered! Stage design, costumes, lighting, sound, acting, singing, dancing, stage transitions...you name it, they were at the top of their game every step of the way! So, at the risk of ruining future opportunities I may have to see more shows, I must begrudgingly yet passionately proclaim my accolades to every single person involved with The Maverick Theater. Telephone reservations can be a little tricky, but they were good at returning calls and made my reservations with efficiency. The staff are truly friendly, wonderful folks and are very willing to tell you proudly about their theater and the productions past, present and future. The Maverick Theater is an absolute GEM of an entertainment experience. I will be back again....and again...AND again...until this review causes the aforementioned 'gold rush' at which time, I hope to have quicker access to my tickets! The husband and I returned for a second year of the trifecta Night of the Living Dead, Plan 9 from Outer Space & Santa Clause Conquers the Martians. Like last year they did not disappoint! I was worried that having seen the productions it would take away from the mystery but I think knowing what was coming made it all the better! This year we also caught a showing of Cannibal the Musical, WOW definitely not for children and I don't think children were allowed which was a good thing. But, as usual the cast and staff did an amazing job. We left with stomach pains from laughing so hard. Can't wait to see next years version of Spamalot. I definitely thing this is a great way to introduce someone to theater arts, first the Maverick then the Opera...baby steps! read more

And to think it couldn't get any more local than this. The Maverick Theater is located in Downtown Fullerton right across the busy bars, the train station and is hidden right smack cheek-to-cheek with a church. Came to the Maverick a few days ago to watch our friend perform. He took lead role as Jerry in the Full Monty. Go figure! The Full Monty + church + on 'Good Friday.' (Ha!) Now, as the Theater may not accommodate hundreds and hundreds of patrons, it sure does offer plenty of seating for a small local production such as this one. Upon arriving, you will notice the small lot that may only fit all of 10 cars. However, plenty of street parking nearby. As you walk in, you will find yourself in a room filled with seats. Depending on the production and night, seating may vary from candle lit tables to row-style seating. There is also a bar towards the end of the room which serves alcohol. (wink wink!) The layout of the Theater isn't large but definitely serves it purpose well. Prices here are very reasonable and with shows of "Improv Shmimprov" every Friday and Saturday night @ 11pm for $5, well, you can't beat that. (I hear there's karaoke til' the wee hours of the morning too?) Though while I was here I was watching another show, I've seen them at one of the events I've been to and I know that they are hilarious. With 2 separate theaters (1) for production and (1) for film, it's great for some local cheap fun. I definitely can see myself coming back to this Theater. Just recently discovered this theater. The theater is tiny but that means there is not a bad seat in the house. We came for Avenue Q and at first I was concerned for the size of this theater since I had seen this musical in a much bigger production in London. To my surprise, the show was just as good as I remembered! There's a bar inside, though I'm not sure what they serve besides beer and wine. There was always parking right in front both times we've been here. Looks like there's only a few spots there, but I assume there's plenty of parking in the area. I love how easy and effortless this theater is to get to and how quaint and cozy it is. They put on a lot of good shows here. Can't wait to come back for more. read more

This is my favorite local community theatre. I've seen a good sampling of plays here over the last year or so, including the delightfully campy "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians," the dark satire "Below the Belt," and my absolute favorite "Night of the Living Dead" (front row seating, of course!). It's a small theatre but larger than most local theatres because they creatively utilize the waiting/bar/improv stage space as well as the main stage to produce a dynamic experience every time. I've also been to an Improv Shmimprov show after hearing good things from my brother, who has been a fan for a long time. He especially enjoys the host, Erik, and can't get enough of his gasping for breath and falling off stage from over-exerting himself to get the crowd excited. We both agree that witnessing Erik nearly succumb to cardiac arrest makes for a show in and of itself. Seriously, though, he's a great guy and most excellent host. He is like 1/2 the reason we come out to watch. WE LOVE ERIK! ;) Improv and free late-night karaoke costs $5 but if you're feelin' lucky, you can roll the die and watch for free or be so unfortunate like me and pay up to $9. The improv show I watched was a battle between the home team (Improv Shmimprov) vs. The Lobby. Shmimprov won and rightfully so. Will definitely be back for more! read more

My sister bought tickets to this play. She had seen it on Broadway and I knew nothing about it. My daughter and son-in-law also went with us. The little Theater was near downtown Fullerton. It is a small but charming place! The parking lot is tiny but there is also street parking. Just inside the door was an area to get a drink while waiting to be ushered into the area where the play would be. Minutes before it was ready to start I learned that the play involved puppets. Puppets? Really? I had no expectations but the play was really, really good. My sister thought that it was just as good as the Broadway version. In all, we enjoyed the Maverick Theater and look forward to seeing other plays there in the future. read more

We have enjoyed several plays including Night of the Living Dead multiple times. Halloween is our thing. We go to many events during October. Due to Covid so much was cancelled. When I got the email about this event I set a reminder for when the tickets were going on sale. What a fun experience. Everyone did an awesome job and we wish we could have applauded the cast . The way the event was orchestrated with only 6-7 guests at a time for social distancing that was not possible. This is an interactive event and you are apart of the play. Well done Maverick Theater . If you have ever pondered the power of theatre in the 30's, 40's and 50's you can get a taste of it this month in the Maverick Theatre's production of " the Crocodile Sings" an evening with that American Southern Bard who wrote the masterpieces "The Glass Menagerie","Street Car Named Desire" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Joe Parrish has put together a show using only words spoken or written by Tennessee and from the moment he walks on Stage your are in the presence of that gay old crocodile himself. He delights the audience with stories grand and small, funny and poignant, private and public, light and deep: in short all that makes up life as he plays out the persona of the author as a full person-grand and demure, bold and sensitive in short as complex as a real person. It is an amazing production. If you want a taste of a New York Broadway performance buy a ticket to this show. It touches the heart and gives a glimpse into the life of one of America's greatest playwrights. Five star all the way. read more

Just saw Avenue Q & loved this production! I had never heard of the Maverick Theater & was surprised at the location. Very close to the Fullerton Train Station. We went to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner & then walked over the tracks, to the theater. Outside doesn't look like much, but I love the Art Deco feel of the lobby bar. The theater is a nice intimate theater. I don't think there is a bad seat. Very nice staff, talented performers & nice venue. I will be back! read more
