The last show I saw was 50 Shades of Felt and it was hilarious. My girlfriend herd there was audience participation so she insisted we get there early and sit in the middle, out of the line of fire. Like when we saw Plan 9 from Outer-Space we were both in pain from laughing so hard and often. They always put on a great show and so far I've seen Night of the Living Dead 6 times and have no intention of stopping. The make subtle changes every year but it says true to the source and is just brilliant. read more

The home of Improv Shmimprov! Only the greatest Improv group this side of California. I've been here I don't know how many times. If you're free on a Friday or Saturday night, grab $10, and head over to The Maverick. You'll enjoy a jolly good time getting smashed and laughing your ass off at the ridiculous comedy. They also do plays here on a regular basis, I saw Urinetown here and it was great. Get there early if you plan on going for Shmimprov, especially if it's the drunk show. They start lining up early, but don't worry, it's definitely worth the wait. read more

Went to see 1968 Elvis comeback show. I wasn't too sure what to think in the beginning. The performer did not nearly resemble Elvis like a couple of other impersonator's I have seen, and at first glance I was rather disappointed. But his voice was great and wow he ended up doing the Elvis moves better than any other I have seen. The show got better and better as it went on. Definitely worth seeing. What I really liked is how it wsa narrated. I learned a few things about Elvis that I had not realized before. read more

Came in, hopeful, left VERY happy! Saw The Producers and so thoroughly enjoyed it. The play was a little "sexy" for me, but that did not stop me from enjoying the singing (superb!) and I was amazed at how well they stayed in character! I would recommend this theater to anyone looking for good entertainment with a small feel. They did a beautiful job renovating the theater and although parking can be a bit hard at times, it is well worth the walk. Not recommended for kids. read more

Went to see Les Miserables. The production was fantastic and I recommend seeing it at this thester. Parking is very limited onsite but there is pretty good parking in the street with a short walk. The theater is a bit small with 5 rows of seating, first come first serve. I sat in the very front and was very happy with that. You may want to sit a row back if you dont want to be that close. I found out about this theater and the Elvis 68' Comeback Special show from the Westways magazine and it really didn't disappoint. I took my mom, a longtime elvis fan, and we really enjoyed. The room size was so small and intimate, the snacks/ drinks bar outside was such a nice touch, and all of the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We really lucked out finding this hidden gem and would recommend to anyone looking for small scale comfortable entertainment! read more

How to begin! I recently visited with a buddy for a second time around Christmas (guess it wasnt too recent, but hey Im new to Yelp) and saw Santa Claus vs the Martians and it was awesome! The location feels almost like a secret little club, and once inside youre sitting in a cozy theater and I am assuming are typically immersed in the performance. Great sound, friendly staff, cool plays, great time. The only thing minor complaint is, it was not extremely easy to find...Minor inconvience. I went to see "night of the living dead" play. Actors/zombies interact with and through out the crowd and for almost an hour before I left they all came out covered in fake blood to take pictures with attendees! So cool read more

I love this place!!!!!! I don't live in Fullerton, but I drive out there every Friday and Saturday night that I can just to see their Improv Schmimprov shows. The people there are extremely funny, and they make you feel welcome right from the get go. Fridays they have just the Improv show starting at 11, but Saturdays they have the Improv show and Señor Karaoke right after until 3am. It's great fun and cheap to boot............only $5 to get in to see the show. They only serve beer and wine. So if you are a hard core drinker, this is not the place for you. However, if you are into hilarity, fun, and surprises....... the Maverick is the place for you. read more

I've only seen comedy shows here, but I'm sure the musicals and other productions are just as good. It's kind of a black box theater, which keeps the shows pretty intimate. Sometimes they serve drinks, depends on the show I think. Also the ticket prices are not expensive. I would check out their site for more info on shows. Went on Sunday night to celebrate my boyfriend's sister's birthday. It's the third show we've been to, and it just keeps getting better. It was so much fun to be pulled on stage, and I loved that they dragged his sister backstage and then made her reappear with a birthday hat and cupcake for her birthday-unexpected and sweet. The play itself was hilarious, we saw Les mis, and I was laughing so hard that my stomach hurt several times throughout the show. My throat was sore the next day from laughter and cheering. The improv of the actors is on point and they did a stellar job incorporating random sayings that would happen in the course of the evening. The cast does a fantastic job and I'm really hoping to get back to see it again before they switch it out for the next awesome show. read more

I have seen Rocky Horror, Shakespeare Abridgred, Santa Clause Conquers the Martains, the Graduate, and the Three Musketeers. All have been enjoyable, well acted and worth seeing. I have also done two of the Jungle Cruise Stand Up Comedy shows and about five Improv Shmimprov shows. So, the Maverick is sort of this gathering place for fun and comedy in addition to the Theater. Its a neat layout as well, with two completely seperate environments to present shows. The little bar sells some basic bottled booze and soft drinks as well as some munchies. So, as you can tell, I am a patron of the Maverick and will continue to do so........and you should give it a go to see if it works for you like it does for me. read more

We saw Prelude to a Kiss here. It's a surprisingly spacious location that's somewhat hard to find (around the back of a building near the train station). There's a bar that sells drinks and snacks, and if you come early, you may be able to sit at a little table--though I'm sure that depends on how the theater is arranged for the particular performance. The seating made for a very intimate feeling experience, perfect for this sort of play. The decor is sort of 1920s style art deco; being big video game nerds, my husband thought it looked like something out of Bioshock. The performers got off to a bit of a slow start and seemed sort of nervous at first, but after a few minutes they seemed to become more comfortable and put on a great show. The entire season looks really good and we're already making plans to come back. read more

Absolutely unprofessional. I tried for 6 weeks to contact them to rent the theater for an event, the way they advertise on their website. After leaving a half a dozen messages, plus Emails and Facebook messages, they still did not call me back. I even went down and taped a note to the theater door, and I still didn't get a call back. In all my time of producing shows, I have never had to deal with such an unprofessional operation. Really disheartening, as I have seen many shows here, and have friends who have rented the theater for their events. I would say to avoid doing business with them with this level of customer service. read more

Fullertons best kept secret! This place is awesome for local entertainment and laughs. I saw a rendition of Treasure Island that was the most creative live presentation I've seen without a high budget. They have a local improv show called improv shimmprov that has made me a die hard fan! The improv guys are hillarious! Jaime, Drew, Nathan, Jesse are some of the funniest guys. I wish I could name some of the other funny ones but i'm terrible with names! Plus they have beer! read more

I have been wanting to give this theater a try for a long time and finally got the opportunity. Apparently, there are two stages and we are at the small stage for this performance. The theater was beautiful. Decorated in an Art Deco theme, kind of giving a speakeasy type of vibe. I felt like I should have slipped them the password to get through the door. We saw Plan 9 from Outer Space which was a spoof on the worst movie ever made by Ed Woods. It was very well done and very well acted and we really enjoyed ourselves. In addition, the theater is right next to downtown Fullerton where there are a plethora of dining options for either before or after the show. read more

I love this venue! The price of the show is definitely better than the pricing of other local theaters. The layout worked very well for "The Wedding Singer". Arte Deco embellishments adorned the walls and the stage. The stage placement is very intimate and the sound and lighting were superb for a small theater. I'll be back for "Chicago." read more

There is no reason why the Maverick Theater could get less than five stars. The shows are fun, the staff is good at what they do as well as incredibly kind and fun to talk to, and best of all... IMPROV SHMIMPROV. Never have I seen a better short form improv show, and I've seen Whose Line is it Anyway taped live. Love the Maverick Theater. It is right in the heart of downtown Fullerton, across from the train station, five minutes from home. It is hard to get my husband out of the house sometimes, but I took him to see Zombie Love, the Musical, for his birthday for less than the price of a movie. You really can't beat that for a deal. The acting was terrific, and the musical numbers were highly entertaining. My husband was ready to go back to the next show and the next. There was a short line, but "will-call" consisted of a woman who quickly found our names on her ipad and checked us in. They also served beer, wine and soft drinks at very reasonable prices. Every seat in the house had a great view. I would say the evening was a huge success. read more

Love the Maverick. My wife and I have made it a Halloween Tradition to see "Night of the living dead." The prices are reasonable and the actors and actresses really do a great job. We always invite family and friends every year and everyone leaves with a huge smile on their face (except for my Uncle Bob. He's never been the same after his stroke). I highly recommend. read more

However, we felt the racism vibe since one of the ladies selling snacks (whom had a southern accent), did not come to us to ask if we wanted to buy anything. She walked around to everyone, except us. The Maverick Theater is located right around the corner from where I live. I've alway typically have gone to LA to watch most plays/musicals. I met the owner once in downtown Fullerton and he was very friendly and was telling me about the productions coming up for the year. I finally made time to go see One flew over the cuckoo's nest and thought it was an excellent play. The theater is small but I think it makes it all seem more personal. You can't complain about pricing...it's about as cheap as you can get for this type of entertainment. I look forward to attending more performances. read more

This theater offers a great range of productions, from Shakespearean adaptations, to staged productions of famous movies, to original works. Not all of the productions are a hit, but that is to be expected with ANY theater around the world. However, even the disappointing stuff is still better than most productions in other community theaters. There are two stages in this theater, the cabaret, and the theater. Both stages seat 48 people each, and productions do not run simultaneously, due to their close proximity. Seating at the theater stage is what you would expect (rows of chairs, and stairs). Seating at the cabaret stage may or may not have cafe-style tables, and has a bar where you can order wine, beer, or soda, all in bottles. Tickets are $20-$25 each, depending on what is playing at the time. For you night owls, Improv Shmimprov, the resident improv comedy troupe, plays every Friday and Saturday night at 11pm for $5/person. For Improv Shmimprov shows only, you can forgo the $5 charge, and elect to play one of their dice games for the chance at a reduced price, or to get in for free. Lose, and you will have to pay up to $10, depending on which game you play, and where your dice lands. Definitely makes things interesting. Considering that a night out at the movies is approaching $20/ticket, you will want to give this place a try. Even if you wind up with the rare miss, the bar's wine and beer selection could help drown your sorrows away. If the play and improv shows are not enough for you, wait, there's more! At around 12:30am, right after the end of the improv show, is karaoke that lasts until 3am. Perfect for those of you who have elected to imbibe more potent potables during the night. read more

Saw "the King" a ROCK-N-ROLL comedy about the return of ELVIS. Wow! There is FINALLY true theater in Fullerton. With lots of innovative set design using rear screen projection and a multi-level set, a great sound system, plus a bar - this place rocks! The performances are great too! Saw Rent here this weekend with my lady friends. Tried to go to Improv Shrimprov here a few months ago but it sold out. Maverick is a nice theater, I'll definitely return in the future to see what else is going on here.
