Pros: Extensive menu options at a great price (we ordered dinner and had leftovers for two for $40) Friendly staff (Nancy served us and she was so helpful and lovely) The appetizer platter for two was a great way to try a lot of the menu The fried feta phyllo dough rolls were great as was the chicken pita They were awesome about letting us sub out things on the platter which we really appreciated Tzatski and baba ganoush were the best dips by far! Cons: No liquor license however they strongly encourage BYOB and don't charge a corking fee The kidney bean salad was my least favorite thing, it smelled off and maybe tHats how it was supposed to taste but it was not for me The fries were crispy but too salty Can't wait to come back here again! read more

Fabulous! I've eaten in the restaurant and ordered takeout several times, the quality is consistent and delicious every time! I did a take out order on the 4th of July to bring to the beach. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and delicious. My favorite was the eggplant sauce as an appetizer. We are going the takeout and cooking at home route in our house until things settle down with Omicron, so I decided to go to one of our favorite places to pick up food. A warning to the wise, do not visit this establishment until we are out of the woods with this latest surge. Went to pickup a takeout order and found the front facing cashier person that also packages all of the takeout food unmasked serving another unmasked takeout customer. I can only guess what the mask protocol in the kitchen is. I really enjoyed the food at Mavi, but their careless disregard for the health and safety of their customers is inexcusable. Three of us visited Mavi Grill in Mount Siani for lunch, and are glad that we did. A relative was coming and she is vegan and wanted something Mediterranean , We ordered a delicious hummus with pita bread for an appetizer and she ordered a cup of Red Lentil and Carrot Soup and a White Bean Salad. My wife ordered the Falafel Plate (the best she's ever had), and I ordered a cup of excellent Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup and a Chicken Pita. The service was excellent.The price was reasonable. Cute place. Good service. But here are my complaints that can be easily adjusted : WHY IS THERE MILK IN THE HUMMUS ?!?! I frequent Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine because it's very vegan friendly and my go-to is usually hummus. There is absolutely no reason to add milk to hummus , all you need for the creamy consistency is a vita mix ;) Along the same line , why is there cream in the red lentil soup ?! One star is way too many for this unprofessional establishment. We had to deal with the most disrespectful employee 'John' who was rude and managed to get our takeout order completely wrong and then gave us an awful attitude!! John managed to screw up our order when there was not one customer in the restaurant! He didn't even check the order because of pure laziness. He is a disgrace to your establishment and the hospitality industry! My husband and I have been in the restaurant industry for a good part of our life and we would NEVER speak to a customer the way he spoke to us AND he hung up the phone on us! I have written professional restaurant reviews for over a decade for notable Long Island magazines and have never been so disgusted with this employee that is supposed to be a reflection of the owner. Ok so first time at mavi... love me a good greek salad a chicken pita and thats exactly what i got! Only one other table taken while i was here for lunch on a sunday.... surprisingly i sat and waited a while for the waitress to come after i was done to c if i wanted anything else. She was the only waitress working so that could b a issue but whatever im just trying to enjoy some alone time. Ordered baklava for dessert.... yumo! Ordered the lamb pita with the fries and I have to say the lamb pita was amazing! Drizzled with yogurt sauce and a decent portion (although not as big as expected) and very tender with great flavor, the fries I got were also surprisingly good with salt seasoning and something else I can't describe but tasted very good although I think a bit less salt would be a good move. My only real gripe is the price for the meal the lamb pita isn't very big and sorta average sized so for the price I'd pay say $12.99 or $14.99 if I'm being honest, bs the $17 or so they charge. Look forward to trying this place again and maybe something different next time, hopefully they can improve on some of my minor quibbles I had. All in all would recommend trying them out! read more

Mavi is delicious, food is hearty, portions are large, flavors are rich and traditional. Service is friendly and attentive, even when it's busy. This is my impression from the 5-7 times I've eaten here. I highly recommend the Beyti Special, especially if you like gyros, they do it right. Sweet atmosphere.. hanging lights and decor are cozy, romantic. Parking can be awkward to maneuver when it's busy. The food is worth this minor inconvenience. read more

Best baklava I have ever had and my aunt and uncle who lived in Turkey also agree. Many folks in our party couldn't stop raving about it. The vegetarian platters of mezza were out of this world and the falafel was great, too. I never like grape leaves but these ones were excellent. Great for large private parties. Apparently the food used to be excellent here. Something clearly has changed. Possibly the worst meal I've ever had dining out, no exaggeration. Paper plates and forks? Really? You can't afford a dishwasher? Then something came out that was dried, reheated lamb with what tasted like a can of hunts tomato sauce simply dumped on top with yogurt in the middle. Truly Putrid. First time at Mavi-- I hadn't been on this end of Mt. Sinai in a while. Interior was well distanced, and they switched to disposable plates and utensils. Lunch was fantastic. Split the mixed appetizer plate-- great homemade hummus and babaghanoush. Steak and shrimp kabobs were excellent, as was the homemade dessert. A tad pricey for lunch, but left absolutely stuffed. Not as good as I remembered but could be suffering due to Covid. Got a gyro with fries & baklava. Gyro was good, fries tasted great too but had WAY too much seasoning. Almost too difficult to eat. And baklava was soggy from the honey it floats around in in the container. The taste was good but I want a flaky crunch to my baklava. and the price for it was ridiculous. One of those hidden gems that people should seek out in the area. Food fresh, first class and consistent. Good variety on menu but not to the point where they are overindulging on trying to cater to every taste. They know what they are good at and always deliver on flavor, quality and service. Words cannot describe how happy we are that Mavi is here. My husband and I moved to Mount Sinai two years ago, and we tend to want to try anything different. We felt like we'd exhausted our options. Italian is everywhere, and we tried it all. Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Thai, Indian, Pakistani, Afghan, French, and of course good old Americana. But hear me now. This place is awesome. It's in the same spot where the old deli was that people used to call the "dirty deli". But for heaven's sake don't let that throw you like it did me. I avoided the place for a month, driving past it like an idiot every day on the way to work, until one of my friends tried it out and told me it was good. Then I went and had lunch there. Good? It was an understatement. Mavi is Turkish cuisine at its best. Also, TJ and his wife are the sweetest, most genuine people you will ever meet. I've eaten there twice so far, once with my daughter, and once with my husband and some friends. Prices are reasonable and the seating is comfortable, yet genteel. There are still some remnants of the deli (refrigerator is still in the wall) but they're clearly working to take the place in a different direction, and I have a feeling that fridge will disappear eventually. Meanwhile, the decor is all in blue ("Mavi" means blue in Turkish we were told). The glass top tables have beautifully patterned bowls set just underneath the glass. Also, for orchid lovers, take note of the fabulous blue orchid above the fireplace. Both times we were there TJ came out of the kitchen to say hi and to see if we liked our food. The answer was "yes, absolutely!" both times. I've had the chicken kabobs and the kofte, and they were each very flavorful, not to mention the rice and the vegetables. The beyhti was good but the marinara drizzled on top kind of threw me off because I started thinking of Italian food (and I actually came to get away from Italian). But that's just me. No matter what you order, just make sure you get the vegetables--they're so flavorful even your kids will eat them. How best to explain the experience? Well, when we cook at home my kids say they can tell if there's love in the food. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that there is love at Mavi. I think there are some other people who figured it out, too, because the last time we were there, it was pretty crowded. We had a reservation last time, luckily, but I still had to do some creative parking. They may take some time to adjust to the overwhelming response and hire more wait staff, etc., but since they are keen on getting things right, I'm sure they'll get there. One more piece of advice. When you order, you'll see that it's a huge portion (which is another plus). But leave room for dessert because you'll want the experience of having the Turkish coffee. I've had the coffee and baklava twice now, and each time it was almost a religious experience. I'm sighing right now, just thinking about it. I may go later today, just for that. I've been here twice for takeout, and we have been really happy with our orders both times. We've tried a variety of different things on the menu (appetizers, falafel gyros, meat gyros, salads, desserts, etc.), and everything has been delicious. The prices are a bit too high for us to go all the time, so we consider this restaurant a special treat. The tasty food is definitely worth the price! We spend about $20-$30 per person when we go, and I've been able to save leftovers. The people manning the front desk were very friendly (and masked!) both times. We'll definitely be back! read more

This place is the ultimate comfort food stop. It's pretty small but has a nice, cozy feel too it, especially since it's in a converted house. The decor was casual yet tasteful and the food was great. While I could say the prices were a little much, the soups and falafel that we ordered all perfectly hit the spot. Everything was full of flavor and cooked wonderfully. The thing that really wowed me about Mavi though and is the reason for the 5 stars, is the excellent service. Our waitress was super funny and really went above and beyond for us, not to mention she gave great recommendations for our orders and was willing to work with all our special requests. Amazing! I don't understand how they can make the food have so much flavor. I've had very good Turkish and Greek food many times before, but the food here is literally on another level. If every other Mediterranean restaurant caught fire and disappeared, I wouldn't even blink. I'll never go to another Mediterranean place again as long as Mavi around. My suggestion is to get the mixed plate so you can get a taste of all the meats (which are all excellent). But my favorite is the "meatballs" (would be called keftedes in Greek, but I forget what they're called at Mavi). They are just cooked to perfection and packed with an unbelievable amount of flavor. I've never had any other kind of meat off the grill with so much flavor. I can only imagine this is what the best of food in Turkey/Greece tastes like (and I'm sure many places don't even compare). None of this is a hyperbole, the food here is out of this world! Mavis is in my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time. I'll be back again and again for a long time! :) read more
