Every single time I've gone here, I've ended up with more problems. First, my brake lines suddenly needed service when I brought my car in for something completely unrelated. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they showed me the leak. Hundreds of dollars later, I get my car back and I can barely brake!!! Maybe they forgot to tighten something or put something back, but this mistake could've been SO dangerous, and the ride home was absolutely terrifying. Of course I called them immediately and to their credit they fixed it within a day but the fact remains that no mechanic should make a mistake that large. Fast forward to a routine oil change. As usual they try to up sell me about $700 worth of body work that I don't need. A couple of weeks later my oil light comes on and I bring it into my local mechanic who proceeds to tell me that oil has leaked all over my engine and will now cost me close to $1800 to fix. I wish I could personally warn everyone against this Mavis as it has brought me nothing but grief even for getting the simplest things serviced. The unprofessionalism is astounding, and in their effort for commissions they will leave you with an empty wallet and a car that was better going in than it was coming out. read more

Disappointed is an understatement. We had a tire blow out on the NY Thruway on a Sunday. A tow truck came and put on our spare, and we immediately started calling tire stores for a replacement spare. I called the number for the closest Mavis tire store, and Gardiner, and was told that they had one tire available. We would've liked two, But we were happy to take what we could get. They put our name on the tire, and said they would hold it for us. I told him we were on our way. A half an hour later, after driving a trailered boat through New Paltz, we were almost there. My phone rang. It was them, telling us that the tire was already sold, And that we had spoken to the call center not the store. I don't understand A) why the call center didn't put me directly through to the store and B) why did the call center not know that the tire was already sold? It was a very good thing that I lost cell service at that exact moment. read more

I always try to stay local for my purchases and frequent local businesses, but I do expect good customer service wherever I go. Made an appointment for an oil change, arrived a little early, waited over an hour and asked how much longer it would be? Took them another 15 mins to find out it hadn't even started yet! So this was an appointment, it was an oil change usually a 20-30 minute job, and after 1 1/2 hours they haven't even started? When questioned whether they were going too tell me or make me wait longer they just shrug their shoulders and walk away? I was visiting family out of town for the weekend and unfortunately my car wouldn't start. I called Sts and spoke to a nice gentleman and explained that my car wouldn't start at all and that I would like to get it towed there for repair. I was told I could send the car there and it could be repaired within the same day or by the next morning. The car was towed Saturday afternoon and it is now Monday morning and my car is still there and no work has been or will be done. On Sunday I was told the car would be finished. Unfortunately the part needed to replace my starter could only be bought through a dealership which was closed at the time. I was then told I needed to speak to the manager (I believe his name was Mike) as they no longer are supposed to service cars since they are being bought out by Mavis tires. The manager never called back on Sunday or Monday. I called on Monday and was transferred to the manager who stated that no work could be done and that replacing a starter on my 2006 Honda was a major job and that his staff was not qualified to repair my vehicle (despite the fact that they gave me a quote and had already started the job). My car sat there for three days and I had to miss work on Monday and pay for two tow trucks due to their incompetence. If I could give a negative number of stars I would. This place is dishonest and poorly managed. I will ensure I spread the word to friends and family within the hudson valley to steer clear from this place. read more

Today I serviced my 2015 Nissan Altima. I had an amazing experience at Mavis Discount Tire in Gardiner Ny. They have a wide variety of service options for your vehicle. During my visit, the work I got done was tire replacement, alignment and shock replacement. Upon the start of my visit I was having payment issues on my end and I was given amazing customer service and attention to detail of my issue. Their General manager Scotty, went above and beyond to help me and make my issues and all my concerns addressed. The staff that worked on my car took time as I was leaving to explain the little details with great description of the work that was done on my vehicle. The environment of the establishment is very welcoming and friendly. I would recommend Mavis Discount Tire for trusted service and care of you and your vehicle!! read more

Went to Mavis in Gardiner for a Michelin tire warranty issue. Asked them to simply look at the tires and call Michelin to report the findings so I can replace The tires. They were unprofessional, would not call or help me. They did however offer me other tires I can buy. Terrible customer service- avoid this shady place! Scam, just a complete and utter scam. STAY AWAY. I booked an oil change with a $10 coupon applied to the reservation a week in advance of my appointment. I showed up on time and provided my name and license to the guy behind the desk. Right away, I knew something was up with his tone & mannerisms. He pulls up my reservation and starts giving me some BS about only providing synthetic oil (vs blend which is less expensive). I wanted and scheduled the appointment for the blend. Mind you, I called before even placing the reservation and was quoted $70 for synthetic oil change and $50 for blend oil change. With my $10 coupon, I would be paying $40 + tax so I felt that was a fair price. Back to the guy behind the desk, he said that they got some 'new pricing yesterday' and it would now cost $65. Then he starts to say, well , 'maybe I can get you $8 off, or even maybe up to $10 off'. That was just a scam and a lie because I already had the $10 coupon applied and he was trying to sound like he can get me '$8 or $10 off'. Then I told him I had spoken with someone FROM THIS EXACT LOCATION about the pricing over the phone and he goes into a story that those calls go to a phone center and they don't know the pricing. All lies. He then slipped and then said the calls go to Westchester. Again, a lie because I called and spoke to the people at this location. Then he says, 'let me go talk to my manager'. It was hilarious, he pretended to go into the other room to talk to someone and comes back and says there was nothing he can do. It got worse, I said, ok so how much will the total oil change cost? They scam artist now said, $91!!! What happened to the $50 over the phone let alone the $65 that you just quoted me!!!? I was beside myself. I walked right out of there. Completely wasted my time finding this place, booking the reservation and then my time spent being there on my day off from work to not even have the simple oil change for my car. I felt something was 'off' from the moment I had to talk to this guy who is only out to scam people. I wish I got his name. Please take your hard earned money and your car elsewhere!! I brought my Tahoe here for a change of tires, oil change and wheel alignment. We dropped the car off at 11am. We were told 2.5 hours. I received a call at 3:30pm saying the car wasn't ready yet but my car would need a brake fluid flush, power steering flush, and new shocks. Ended up picking the car up at almost 6pm that day. Only to find out the TPMS came up on the dash as soon as we left and the oil WAS NEVER CHANGED. I brought my own oil and filter and it was in the same exact spot we left it. In the back seat. Checked the oil just Incase and it was still dirty!!! I was charged for a service they never did!!! How crooked?!?! Why would you call me and recommend other services if you can't simply do the ones I brought the car in for???? This place is a scam and they try to rob you of your money at every turn! I went back the next day and they changed the oil but couldn't fix the TPMS light on the dash. They said they had a problem with the ODB port which I think they messed up because it was fine until I brought the car here. If you like your car and your money in your pocket, please I urge you to do more research than I did and take your car somewhere else! read more

Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere . I keep trying to give this place a chance, and they just keep trying to rip people off. They failed my inspection for a "cracked serpentine belt" and "bad wipers" - give me a break. They were just trying to bilk me out of some extra cash. Their little scam is to bring you out to the car and show you how bad the parts are. There was nothing wrong with belt or the wipers - both were fairly new. The belt had less than 10,000 mile on it. I just took my car home and did the 'repairs' myself. $15 for a belt and 10 minutes to put it on. Another $10 for 2 wipers. Oh, and I didn't need either one of these things. I just did the repairs so I could bring the car back and have them give me a sticker instead of paying another place to do the inspection again. read more

Service is terrible, I had a appointment Friday morning for a NYS inspection and unfortunately I had a issue the day before and had to disconnect the battery, so I was told to drive it 50-100 miles to reset the computer and bring it back on Saturday. I was there as told at 8:00, however because the counter person failed to put me on the list they wanted me to wait 3 hours. I couldn't do that, the service man said ok be here Sunday morning at 9:00 and we'll get you right in. I was there at 9:00 and told it would be an hour and 1/2 before they could get to it. So what good is having an appointment, I've been using this store for years and also take my sisters car there for service, NEVER AGAIN. read more

Failed yet again at Mavis in Gardiner NY... I wrote on here about a year ago when the job and service on my truck was below par... The owner called me, apologized and offered a free tire rotation and oil change, so I figured I'd give them another shot. I called Saturday to schedule my wife's jeep for spark plugs, the man said the weekend was slammed and to drop it off Sunday night, put the key in the drop box and they could do it Monday. I explained to him my wife has work on Tuesday in Westchester, going to and from lake George Tuesday night and back to Westchester for work Thursday. So needless to say I drop off the car on Sunday with the keys, leave an explanation of work requested and wait. Monday I hear nothing so at 4pm I call, they haven't even looked at it yet, they call me back and say it needs spark plugs (duh) and would be 4 hours plus materials, meanwhile the man on Saturday told me 200$ approx for labor. Needless to say no work was done, car sat there all day and my wife has to drive all over with my kids and hope she doesn't get stranded. No one should ever visit this location... They keep changing personnel but nothing seems to get fixed. read more

Mavis has their act together recently. The service desk was efficient with a short wait for service. The mechanic explained the work that was needed and showed me the condition before repairing. The service manager and mechanic communicated well. Kudos to the Gardner Mavis Service Center for much improved service. This place sucks. If I could give negative stars I would. I needed my annual inspection, which takes five minutes. I called first to make sure they were available to do an inspection, they told me "Yes! Wait time it AT MOST 2 hours!" Two hours is a long time, but I understand they do repairs and other things so that was fine. Two hours go by, I don't get a call. I call them. I speak to the manager and he tells me my car wasn't even pulled into the garage yet and it won't even be BROUGHT IN UNTIL 4:30-5:00!!! I brought my car in at 11:00am. He is basically telling me that I would have to wait SIX HOURS to have a FIVE MINUTE inspection!!!!! Absolutely ridiculous. It's not like I dropped of a pair of shoes to a cobbler and could go on my merry way for days on end, it's my car. We went back to pick up my car since the manager insisted that my car would have to wait until the ridiculous time they told me. Horrible way to run a business. Imagine being told "sorry we are too swamped to inspect your car." Horrible. Don't go here. Go to a small garage, go to your grandpa, go anywhere else but here. If I get pulled over for not having an inspection, I'm showing the cops this review. read more

Two hour repair job has taken two days. Repeated excuses about the other guy not ordering the part, people calling in sick and them being booked solid. Manager told me that it was a hard repair job and it was taking his guy too long to get the part out of the car. Three times I was told I would receive a call with an update and every time I had to call back and hear another round of excuses about why the repair still wasn't done. I rely on my car for work and can't have it laid up for days on end for what I was told would be a simple 2 hour job. Returned to the shop to pick up car, which wasn't done at the 8pm closing as I was told it would be. I was left a voice mail saying the part was installed and the only thing left to do was tighten the bolts. The part was hanging out of the car, clearly not installed. At 10:15 when the supposed two hour repair job was finally done the quoted estimate nearly doubled. Of course the excuse was that the other guy misquoted me and he didn't include a repair done the day before. My entire experience with this repair shop has been full of lies, excuses and whining about how hard the repair was to do. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Ordered tires a week in advance and scheduled and appointment a week ahead of time but when I went to drop my vehicle off, the did not have either the tires or appointment on record. Kept getting phones about services that I never asked for while I was waiting for my new appointment. Then when I got there they immediately tried to sell me services and parts that I did not need. I got feed up with with their customer service and went 3/4 of a mile up the road to Gary's Truck and Auto Repair and saved over $100. read more

Brought in a older collector car with 50K miles for alignment. I left my car there to be picked up the next day. The next day, I called to see if my car was ready, and was told it was all ready. When I arrived, I was surprised to be told the car needed new ball joints. No one called me to tell me it needed this very expensive repair and I remarked that the car was hardly ever driven and the ball joints are ok. So...I took it to the dealer and told them that STS told me the ball joints were bad. They did the alignment and informed me the BALL JOINTS were indeed FINE and did not need replacement. Car runs fine with no vibration or tire wear. Honesty...honest? I'll never go there again. read more

I appreciated the detailed explanation that Bernie offered, and as a small business owner, I understand how sometimes bad things happen beyond our control. I revised the rating to five stars mostly because Bernie, the manager, handled the situation perfectly...just after the fact. A detailed apology, explanation and assistance in finding another shop to do the work is what should have happened, not the blank stare, shoulder shrug, minimum info and and tiny "sorry" she got from the man at the desk. The staff at point of service still need better training and I am fairly confident they will get it. My wife is an understanding person and would have accepted the same explanation at the shop if it had been offered-- even w/o the offer of a free oil change, which on her car costs $79-+tax no small thing. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. Brought my two year old car in for an inspection and oil change, got a call saying "both front calipers were seized and needed to be replaced." After saying I have had no issue at all with brakes or calipers I was told they would fail it unless we fixed it. Came in, took the car back (with it's failed inspection) and drove the mile back home. Promptly jacked it up, popped off the tires and both rotors spun freely and were not "hung up" as they wrote on the paperwork. Brake pads were still at 60% life and all worn perfectly evenly and no signs of heat (from a seized caliper). THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST TRYING TO MAKE UP EXTRA JOBS. Promptly brought it back up to get the inspection passed and was told they must have magically "dislodged on the drive home" and when I said i could show him video of the rotors spinning before we even touched the car, manager called us liars and told us not to speak to his staff. DO NOT GO HERE! Fun fact - calipers are NOT EVEN PART of a NYS inspection. Only a leaking caliper would fail, a seized or tight one would not. So they were very much trying to scam a young woman who they thought wouldn't know any better....if I could give negative stars I would. read more

if only there was a no star option. the assistant manager is not customer friendly at all . the manager is on a maternity leave which is unfortunate , because the asst manager is never going to see my family return again. corporate needs to do something. i was told to come in for a 2 oclock appt for an inspection and upon arrival , the asst manger didnt even lift his head . finally he commented that he would be with me in a minute. ok . he took my keys and then he left the building , after he asked if i was waiting for the car. he never said a word about the wait time . after 20 min i asked at the counter for an est wait time and was told that unfortunately the guy who does inspection had just left for lunch before i arrived. so when the asst manager came back to the counter an hour later i told him that it would have been nice if he had mentioned that there was at least an hour wait . i said the communication could have been better - he shrugged his shoulder . REALLY . i told him he was an a------. i then asked for someone else to cash me out . what a horrible experience. never will we go there or any other mavis again . I hate giving businesses bad reviews but I had truly one of the worst experiences getting my car repaired. Firstly, I was getting 4 of my tires replaced as well as an alignment, they told me it would take about an hour and a half, which then turned into a grueling 5 hour wait. Three days later, my front tire went flat- I hadn't hit a curb, no nails, in fact they could find absolutely nothing wrong with the tire. One of the workers tells me it was because of the air valve, and then the manager proceeds to tell me while there seems to be nothing wrong with my tires at all, it doesn't have anything to do with the valve (I find this unlikely). He proceeds to try to charge me for an additional tire even though I had just bought the tire 3 days ago and there was NOTHING wrong with it. After telling him I would not be buying a new tire until I know what was wrong with the old tire, he offers me 70 dollars for a new tire. I get my father on the phone (I am a young woman) he brings it down to just pay for the warrantee of the 4 tires. When he charges me he charges me for the five tires including the one he gave me for free. This whole thing was handled very unprofessionally and took over 10 hours of my life. Very disappointed and will not be coming back. read more

Very poor customer service. I called to get pricing and availability for 4 tires for my sons car. I asked for his name so we could call him back and he hung up on me. I called back again and got a different person who was much more service oriented. The first person I spoke to didn't inform me that balancing wasn't included. He said the price included everything. The second person gave me a different total price. I buy a lot of tires for my commercial vehicles at work and am very familiar with the process. I'd recommend sourcing your tires elsewhere. I ended up paying $50 more and it was worth the extra expense. read more

We had an absolutely awful experience here today. One of our tires went flat last night, and since it's almost November we figured we'd just get our snow tires put on and deal with a new tire in the spring. We were grateful that Mavis could handle the job on a Saturday. Then they told us our snow tires were all shot (we bought them there only 2 years ago) and we needed new ones. They also insisted that our struts and shocks were in need of replacing, but we just had those done a few months ago, and we said, that's not possible. But my husband saw the snow tires and agreed they looked very worn, so we said yes to replacing them. Catch was, they didn't have them in stock. We told them this was our family's only car and we needed to be able to drive it later today-- could they just sell us one regular tire for now and we'd get the snow tires in a month? Instead, they opted to push a VERY hard sell on four all-season tires that were twice the price, and essentially refused to sell us just the one tire so we could get a family car back on the road. We were not prepared to spend that, especially without doing any research, so they took the car off the lift and asked us to leave. I see now from other reviews that this is how they operate and it is absolutely despicable. I would give them zero stars if I could. Stay away! read more

I would like to start out saying , this was once a reputable place but ever since mavis took over my opinion is they are thieves and will likely be out of business soon when people recognize that they consistently finding issues that are not there ,(always when you bring your car in for inspection) . My story and issue is with a spare car we use for bringing garbage to the transfer station once every few weeks for a total of about 150 miles per year . Every time they find issues they never found before which wont pass inspection . Most times its breaks after having front breaks one year and then rear breaks the next . I figured I would pay and just keep the car ,even though I knew the breaks were fine (he made up story about when a car sits rust builds up and ruins breaks even though the car is garaged in the winter) . The next time which was just recently they found many issues struts,shocks sway bar but for 500 the sway bar could be replaced and pass inspection .I ended this by just not having the work done and using my 2 newer cars since I really never used this anyway . The manager as a last resort cut the price in half 250 because I was such a good customer . I just turned and walked out ( would not even do it for free at this point ) . Be very careful with this place especially during inspections ....remember breaks are easy and profitable so they will hit you with this first .......hope they get what they deserve ......... read more

In September of 2017 I went to Mavis for my first oil change for my new car and they told me $70 because it needed synthetic oil. Ok fine. After 2 weeks my husband saw oil stains in our driveway. He checked the car and they forgot to put the oil cap on. Call them, they bent over to fix the problem. Thank god it had a little oil left otherwise it would have seized my engine. They told me the next 2 oil changes on them. So I made an appointment last Friday for Monday morning 8:30. Dropped off car and waited all day for the car. Called at 1:30, told me they are just taking the car in...... waited until 4:00 and called again, told me just finished. Go with hubby to pick up, there is no apology, manager said, "it was on him". Car is in the same exact place where I left it. There were no paper mat in the drivers floor and the dashboard still had the words, "Need an oil change". These people are the absolute worst. And I'm probably an idiot for not heeding the lousy reviews they've received. I brought my car in for 4 tires and an oil service. I told them when I made the appointment by phone that I needed to wait for the car so I could get to work afterward. They told me to come in at 7:30 am and they'd have me out quickly, that the tires were ordered and would be there 2 days before the appointment. I arrived at 7:30 and spent the next 15 minutes fending off high pressure sales attempts to up charge for things I didn't need. At 11:30 my car was still outside. When I asked about this I was told they would get to it some time in the afternoon! I threatened to take the car and take my business elsewhere. Only after my threat of leaving did they bring my car in. When I got the car back it was covered in greasy hand prints, the wheels and new tires were disgusting, btw the car was pristine when I brought it in. I drove the car home and noticed one of the chrome lug nuts was missing and was replaced with used and rusted plain lug nut that had been rounded off with the air gun. Also, the oil filter was leaking around the gasket. I tightened the oil filter and called the store to complain about the awful quality work and they offered to take care of the problems if I brought the car back. We'll see what happens when I bring it back in a few days when I'm off from work. Regardless of what they do to rectify the problems, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else if you need tires or service. Their low ratings are well deserved. read more

Overpriced, I paid $30 just to get my tired checked, a new tire that was losing air, they found nothing wrong with it. Got charged for a performance tire rotation when I have a standard tire and they charged me for a light truck flat tire repair when I just have a Suzuki car. I honestly do not know where to begin on the complaints with this place. I called and made an appointment, turns out even though I was told I was speaking to a person at the actual location, I was not. Gave me wrong information. Had appointment at a specific time and sat there waiting for 45 minutes before they even took my car in for a 5 minute fix (plug a tire). The part that really got to me were there were NO cars at all in any of the bays and all the workers were walking around as I was sitting there waiting. Checkout took another 15 minutes as only certain people can check you out, and the guy was on the phone so we had to stand there and wait. An hour and a half total for something that took 5 minutes. Ridiculous! Next day, the tire was flat again and I had to call another location to have them put on a new tire. The call center caused a lot of problems with that visit as well but the manager at that other location was great and straightened it all out for me.
