Have a great price on brakes and rotors. On Wednesday, did my fronts in a little over an hour.

Had to bring my daughter's car in for some emergency front brake work and wheel bearing replacements this past September.Like other Mavis's I've used in the past, they were very professional, courteous,and fairly priced. They even reduced my final cost when there were parts they were able to reuse! Their work was spot on as to this day my daughter had no further front end problems. bought two front tires here and within about a week one blew out on the highway, leaving me stranded with no spare. When I contacted the store, they refused to help because I didn't purchase the warranty, even though the tires were basically brand new. No inspection, no effort to see if there was a defect--just an automatic no. For something that serious and that recent, I expected better customer service and at least some attempt to make it right. Got our vehicle in and out the same day with no appointment. Job well done. Was in a hurry to get it done and wasn't sure I could get the part and maneuver it in myself without a lift. Appreciate them getting us in and out before my daughter had to take the car back to college the following Monday. That being said I can't stand the pricing structure. For $800+ it thought I would be getting stainless steel exhaust component but it was aluminized steel. That in itself I don't care about so much except online the stainless part was $376, this part both online and locally is less than $140 but the Mavis price listed was $500. I was busy when they called and assumed the $376 part would be double locally and that explained the price. I would have gladly paid the $200 labor to install a part I bought, if I couldn't do it. Honestly to add insult to injury now that I have looked closer I probably could have done it pretty quickly. It probably took less than an hour on a lift. So lesson learned, ask about the parts price up front and make sure you know what you are getting. I didn't ask, just wrongfully assumed based on what I thought was reasonable and ended up regretting not asking or checking out the job closer. The service was great, they recommended other potential services based on issues they noticed which I mostly knew about already so it wasn't a sales pitch. Called to remind me of their closing hours knowing I wanted to get it picked up same day. Unfortunately the price paid for value of the job left me with regrets. Years ago, as Coles, this location did a job for half the price I thought it would be and while the weld ended up leaking it was well worth it and was much better than it could have been. I do most things myself because I can out the money into better parts. This time I got basic parts and overpaid for them and paid someone else to do it. read more

Great job with the price and service of getting my brakes, rotors, tire rotation and brake fluid flushed here. They were honest. I thought I needed front and back axels replaced but they told me I still have 40% life left in the front. I appreciate the honesty. Due to this I would def go back. Only downfall is do not wait around to get work done on your car. Make sure you have a ride home bc it was almost 4 hours. Thankfully I don't live far so I got a ride home until it was completed. Scheduled an appointment for 4 tires to be balanced and an alignment. tech took a long time to balance my 4 tires and employees sat around for a long time smoking cigs and looking through their phones. when they finally pulled my car on the alignment rack he smoked my clutch and kept slipping it until he was up. Was told they aligned my car but when i drove away it still pulled to the right. went back and asked for a printout or any proof of the specifications of my alignment and they said the printer was broke and they need to have me come back another day to get another alignment. when i took another day off work and went back, they took photos of the alignment and didn't show any important measurements - only showed total toe and not the specs of each wheel. Car still does not drive straight and wheels wobble on the highway above 65. I know it's due to their failure to balance my wheels because i just had summer tires on and had no wobble even at 85. $200 later and my wheel still shakes and my car does not drive straight... thank you mavis read more

I went to get a NYS inspection. They told me I had a massive leak. It was leaking on the floor. I was shocked because I did not see any leakage in my garage. They informed me that I had to buy an $800 part then totaling $1300 to fix to pass inspection. Il left with out a fix. Surprise Surprise there was now oil leakage in my garage. I waited a week to pass the holidays. The leakage only happened after I left their facility. I believe they purposely put oil under my car to try and get me to pay for a job. Went to another place, they did not find a leak.. pass inspection. Don't go there read more

DO NOT get any major repairs done at Mavis. They are scam artists as we found out when we brought the car to a reputable mechanic. My wife has been getting her tires and oil changes at Mavis Latham for years until we thought we had a real issue with the car. We believed their diagnosis which was a complete fabrication and paid $2300 for what amounted to a tune up and a couple other small items. it's disgusting and if I can get one person to go elsewhere I will look at it as a success. I had a 4:00pm appt.which was scheduled online. Manager called me right away to confirm appointment and ask if I would be waiting the vehicle. Two tires mounted and balance w alignment check. I said yes. He said great se you at 4:00 on Wednesday! I arrived at 3:50 and the woman told me to be prepared that they may not get to the car til 6 or so. I asked why they confirmed for 4:00 knowing I would be waiting. She actually' this is like a doctors office, sometimes you have to wait' I said I would change doctors. There is someone in the waiting room here with me who's appt was at 2 and he's still waiting. Ridiculous. read more

I was a bit hesitant to use Mavis discount tire services due to its negative reviews. Then, I begin to compare the companies local store reviews for services, Latham had received a 2.5 rating which averaged their 40 reviews as of July 2nd of 2020. I had prayed for good service after reading reviews because I had wanted to give them a try. Upon entering the shop one of the workers were snippy with me being 10mins late and servicing two other customers ahead of me which I was fine with. After, the workers were very cool, no complaints I was serviced within an hour. Originally, I had scheduled to have two tires I purchased from Walmart mounted, balance and then rotated but added a battery replacement which totaled to a great cost. I am grateful for the good job as well as the wait and service all being done within an hour. read more

My 214,000 mile 2010 Honda Fit needed an inspection. At that age, I wasn't hopeful it would pass at all. Luckily I only needed brake pads and 1 rotor was bad, which I knew were old anyway. A 'Karen' was waiting for her inspection as well, and had a temper tantrum because "she needed to pick her kids up and couldn't believe that the car didn't pass". "I've never had such a thorough inspection, so what if the coils were broken, etc etc." "Why can't you just throw a sticker on? I have to get on the highway, I don't have time for this..." The employee calmly told her that NYS wouldn't allow a car to pass with those Safety issues. Thanks, Mavis, you may have saved her kid's lives by not throwing a sticker on. read more

A long-standing customer that is all of sudden being ignored. For years I brought my SUV to them for maintenance work and larger work as it came up. I bought a second car and brought that in to be serviced as it is an older car. I was thrilled with the thorough review and attention to detail. We discussed work to be done and the first chunk of work was over $900. The second chunk of work to be done has yet to be completed despite me calling back over the last couple of weeks asking for next steps. Each time I speak with someone I'm told I'll be called back, and days go by without any update. I'm not clear what happened - how we went from such a strong level of communication to absolutely nothing. At this point I'm done waiting and will take my business elsewhere. read more

Needed tires at the last minute because I was heading out of town the next day and didn't want to risk an 8 hr round trip with the tires I had. Dropped into Latham Mavis on a Friday afternoon at around noon time. The store was extremely busy. I spoke to Hafez--very nice guy, very helpful. I explained what I was looking for in tires for my 2019 GMC Canyon. He gave me a few options with zero pressure or "up selling". I settled on Mavis Mountaineers, made by Kummho. Great price since they each had a $50 instant rebate. Even though they were busy, they took my truck in. I left it there, and they had it all done in about 4 hours. Four tires, balance, new wipers--$1005. They even made sure all the tricky GM tire pressure monitor system features were good to go. I've been to many Mavis stores and never had an issue. This one is definitely a good one! My wife will be getting new tires here very soon. read more

I needed new tires for the the car, and had selected a brand/model based on Consumer Reports ratings. Ordering from Mavis' website was going quickly and easily, until I called the Latham location to verify the tires were in stock. I had chosen Mavis based on word of mouth reviews, and the Latham location based on customer reviews posted on Mavis' own website - interestingly, nearly all the other locations had terrible reviews. Businesses that treat their current and prospective customers well see positive results. Sometimes, customers practically want to give their money away to good businesses, the product or service is delivered so well. In this case, I was nearly willing to give the Latham Mavis tire location a good order with no effort on their part. Except for there being no product to purchase. Earlier this week, I spoke with "Max," who said he did not have in stock what I wanted to buy, but that they would arrive Tuesday. I called just before COB Tuesday, and no tires. A poor excuse was given, and I was promised the tires would arrive by Friday (yesterday). But again, a lame excuse and a lame commitment to when - if ever! - the tires would arrive. I was happy to learn that BJ's sells the same tire, and that I will be saving $130 for the same product and better customer service. Great job, Mavis - keep your reputation going! read more

This is the worst place I've been to when it comes to car maintenance! I dropped my car off around 8:30am the guy told me it would be between an hour or hour 1/2. It is now 12:45 and my car is still not done while I'm sitting here writing this review! I asked him how much longer and he said another 30-40 minutes! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I have continued to have decent service here for tire purchases/installs and flat repairs. The key thing to know is you can (should) negotiate the price of everything with them. They seem to have a lot of latitude in the pricing and will price match other suppliers for tires and services. I was able to get a set of tires for the same price as sold by Walmart and did not have to worry that I was getting some off-brand Walmart product and installation. If you don't have a price match try asking nicely if they can do any better - they will likely take something off. read more

Went there to change the tires and for alignment. And yeah they messed up my alignment. Now I'm driving with a tilted steering wheel!

They wouldn't pass my inspection stating my shocks were bad. Brought my car somewhere else and they passed it no problem. Clearly just gouging me, totally unacceptable. I will say I felt the new tires I got were reasonably priced. However, it took them 9 hours. At first they told me an hour (I never believed that mind you), then 3 hours...then 5 hours... I got there an hour before they closed and my car was still on the lift, tireless and "failing" inspection. If you only need tires and times not a factor, I suppose I'd recommend them. If you need any other work done then this place is untrustworthy. read more

Three and a half hours wait to get ONE tire mounted and installed. Original wait time quoted was 2 hours. I asked if they could just mount new tire and I would put it on myself. I understand businesses run into situations they can't control, such as employees not showing up, slammed with a lot of customers at once, etc., but if you can't honor an appointment that was made the previous week, a call would have been appreciated rather than waiting for me to show up to tell me. I'm a fairly reasonable person, and would have understood and rescheduled. It's more of a hassle to find another company, but was left with no choice if that is how they treat their customers. I also understand Mavis is a big company, and doesn't necessarily need my business for just 4 new tires, but it's still disappointing nonetheless. I certainly don't wish them ill will, and hope their Latham location can do better in the future with their remaining customers. read more

DO NOT RELY ON THESE PEOPLE! If I could give less stars I would. Had an appointment to have my snow tires put on. Called 3 hours before hand to confirm. Left work early to get there. Showed up 30 minutes early. Went to check in and was told they weren't going to be able to do it. They were very rude, no apology. They tried to make a distinction between a reservation and an appointment while using the same definition for both. Now I will not be able to get to work tomorrow with the coming storm and my weekend travel plans are going to have to be canceled too late to cancel my hotel room so I will be charged for that as well. Call this company what it is, first come first serve. Don't tell the customer they have an appoint, later confirm that appointment then not honor it on arrival. Short Review: They had my wheel and tire from 9:45am to 2:30pm. Never heard anything from them until I had to call 3 and a half hours after dropping it off. I get you're busy but it could have at least been communicated that it was going to take almost all day to get it done. That'd have been fine, call me, tell me your crew doesn't want to get to my tire till they have nothing else to do just before closing. I'd be fine with that, I'd have planned my day accordingly to come and pick it up later in the day. I'd have came and picked it up later in the week. I'd pick it up next month! I have a full spare! Just communicate! Long Review: I've never experienced such dissonance and inconsistency between two different stores of the same franchise. I usually go to the MDT in East Greenbush near my office, and I've never had a problem with them - they do great work, fast, and quick. So at this location I simply brought in a wheel with a flat tire due to a nail. I didn't require mounting or anything. I was expecting service that matched what I was used to at the E Greenbush location to a reasonable degree. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I dropped the wheel/tire off at 9:50am and told them I'd be back around 1pm. Granted they were slammed that day. There wasn't an open space in the parking lot. But 1:22pm rolled around and I hadn't heard anything. So I called: Him: "I've got a guy working on it." Me: "Ok, what's the ETA?" Him: "I've got a guy working on it." Uh, ok. I asked ETA, not "do you have a guy working on it?". I can comprehend basic concepts such as a person working on it now, or not. I wasn't suggesting a possible physiological though experiment paradox where a technician could both be working on a tire and not working on a tire at the same time. The duration of this process and how much longer I should delay before I come back was clearly the information I was seeking. Didn't get an answer. So I'm parked at Price Chopper up the road. I have a growler in my car, yeah I'll just go get it filled, grab some slices (PC has legit good pizza BTW, weird right?). So I get all that, come back to my car, sit and eat it watching YouTube for another good 15 20 minutes when I finally get a call back at 2:07pm - 45 minutes after a guy was already working on it. So it took someone at least 45 minutes to come to the conclusion that: Him: "You need a new tire. And an alignment, the steel is starting to show through." Me: "Ok. ETA?" Him: "A guy is working on it right now." Not this again! So at this point I have nothing else to do but just go there and sit down and wait. I'm there another 20 minutes while they install the new wheel. Took me 10 minutes to get there. So all tolled they spent at least 45 + 30, 1 hour and 15 minutes to put a new tire on a wheel. I totally take responsibility for not getting my tires rotated or an alignment soon/often enough (I took my car to have this done at the E Greenbush MDS this Monday, which went flawlessly), but it should not take that long. read more

Nailed it! Or rather the tire, apparently nailed it! That's what the cause of my slow leak has been for the last number of months. Mavis was honest and apologetic about not catching it two and a half months ago when they said it might have been a leak on the bead. Well, bottom line... they said no charge! Nice. read more

While the only thing we have done here is a flat tire repair, I was most impressed w/the LOW price..$15 for the repair, while we waited. On the other hand, the greeting was underwhelming, the two counter staff continued to chat w/each other for several minutes while I waited.... and the repair did not include putting our spare back under the truck as I requested.. plus the technician left our window OPEN in the rain/snow ????? could have been better. read more

I've always highly recommended the Latham Mavis location as i've been there plenty of times and always experienced efficient service and some great prices for the work performed. That's why my rating is still so high despite what i'm about to write. My most recent trip a week ago was beyond disappointing. I went there to have snow tires taken off and the all season ones put on. The snow tires were purchased and put on there, so the all seasons were removed there previously. So if the all seasons were placed in my car and sat idly in my closet for the past six months, how could three of them need to be replaced due to damage and tears? The first time i get called into the shop area, i get shown one tire that is on the machine with bubbles in it,, leaving me furious at the $135 i'll be spending on a replacement. About ten minutes later, i'm called back into the shop to get the rest of the bad news. The employee i dealt with that day was someone i had never dealt with previously. He told me it looked like someone took a knife to the one tire, which i kind of agreed with. The only problem with that theory is that the only people who touched the tire in the past seven months were Mavis employees and myself,, and i didn't just get the sudden urge to slash some money out of my pockets for personal amusement. After being told i would need three new tires running me close to $450, i had them re-mount and balance the snows on the vehicle. It's hard for me to believe that this establishment would risk losing their reputation for the sake of hosing extra money from valued customers, but i can't help to believe that the people who handled my tire had something to do with the damage occurring. Rich and Sam have been there for the few years i've been a customer and have always been good to deal with. I can't say i'll never go back because i most likely will for specific issues, but after my last visit i can say that i won't be doing much more recommending of it. read more

Stay away from Mavis! I knew my brake pads needed to be changed. They said the rotors and calipers needed to be replaced too. 6 months later my brakes stopped working. There was brake fluid all over the rotors and pads. The other place I brought my vehicle to could not fathom why they wanted to change the calipers at only 50,000 miles. Go somewhere else. read more

For some reason, my original review wasn't posted, but the several five star fake reviews were, so here we go again. Mavis is hands down the worst mechanic experience I have ever seen. I brought the car in for a coolant issue, they claimed they fixed it, a week later I noticed more issues arise with my car. I brought it back, they said it neeeded a new exhaust. Literally a week (pretty much to the day) and over 1500 dollars already given to Mavis my car starts smoking. I drop it off, they look at it, and apparently I need a new radiator. They were the last ones to touched my radiator as stated before, and now all of a sudden there's a mysterious hole that WASNT there before? But now, because it's a mistake THEY didn't initially catch until there was smoke, they "don't do that kind of body work". Please. So I pay a tow to bring my car to d&s.d&s States not only is the radiator broken but they battery is shot as well, something mavis assured me was totally fine. It wasn't until I spoke to the regional manager , Patrick, and he offered to pay for a tow to get my car back and charge me for just parts (still 300 dollars mind you.... on top of 1600 already invested into mavis over now three separate occasions).... because now magically they CAN do that kind of work. They put in the new radiator and battery. A week to the day, again, the heat is no longer working in my car and it's having issues starting. I'm so exhausted. I am so just distraught and upset. My car is worse than it was before Mavis got their money hungry hands on it. I'm accepting that I will now probably sell my car, for parts. NEVER BRING YOUR CAR HERE. Will be contacting BBB and hopefully someone who actually cares about customer service at mavis to try and resolve this issue, before I start requesting shop cams. Save yourself the headache, DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS. Update: they drew an offensive picture on my invoice, implying I was stupid for thinking anything could be done for my older vehicle "oh it's having trouble? Duhhhhhh *picture of a stick figure with long hair, like mine, wearing a dunce cap* hey you guyyyyysssss duhhh". I have photos if anyone wants to see what kind of business this is, I contacted customer service and sincerely hope the technician who felt that was appropriate or professional has been terminated from his position. Management did reach out to me rather quickly to apologize, but it was disappointing to receive that kind of treatment after spending money with their business. That's all that was given: an apology, just words. The manager stated the invoice was not meant for me to see, and it was "the guys in the back just communicating and goofing off". This was my second time having a used car. First time a friend of mine helped me with many things. This time I was on my own. I have been leasing cars all my life, so I always drive a brand new car for a few years. It's been a peace of mind for a really long time Somehow I liked to get this one particular used car. The car was in excellent condition, but it needed new tires real bad. So at the same time, I thought I should replace with new rims as well. I bought rims from an online store. And decided to buy tires from Mavis because other closer stores didn't carry the brand I wanted. I went online, bought the tires, made a reservation. The next day, someone from Mavis called to confirm me that the tires were there and ready. I went on my rsvp day. My request was pretty complex. I needed my new rims with new tires on, but used all the old nuts, valves, pressure sensors, center caps, etc. I didn't need old tire, but wanted to keep old rims. And also NYS inspection. I couldn't believe, they didn't miss any of my request. It took a bit longer than usual, but they kept informing me what was going on such as they had to reprogram the pressure sensors more times than usual. When I left, the car was smooth as new. When I got home, I didn't see the nut covers on my new rims. But later I found them in a bag in the trunk. I guess they didn't put them on because I would have to go retorque anyway. read more

Brought my car in here again because they were so awesome last time. This time I needed brakes, a windshield fluid pump and a state inspection. They installed the pump gave me options on my breaks so that I don't need to replace them every 18 months (I asked for upgrade ideas) and was out of there in less than 2 hours. They didn't install my brakes the last time but I will keep going there. The brakes the installed are great, they serviced my BMW well below dealer costs and got me in in the same day I needed. Finally a reputable shop I can feel good about. read more

Amazed! Touched! Overwhelmed and extremely grateful! I went in to get a tire repairedUnder duress and clearly an emergency situation. It looked like a vandalized tire. It was late in the evening and I dropped my car off. I came back after my softball game and the gentleman who cashed me out asked me if I was military and I said yes why?(he saw something in my car that is military issued) He then told me you're all set, no charge you've done enough for us let us do something for you. I went to Mavis in Latham because my car could not pass inspection. I took the referral from Valvolene as lip service, I was wrong! I stopped in to make an appointment and was taken right away. I noticed the customers were mostly seniors and women - demographics most often ripped off by repair centers. As customers came and went, all were addressed by name and many were repeat customers. That really impressed me. It may have occurred, but not within my hearing, I never heard, "while we had it up on lift we found ......" I was even more impressed when I got my final charges! I had two front rotors resurfaced and brake pads replaced for just under $250.00 total. I passed inspection and they didn't charge me for that service! There's a difference between a customer and a client! They've made a client out of me. If you go, ask for Rich or Sam and don't take all the appointments, I may need something else fixed. read more
