Absolutely disappointed with the customer service at Mavis Discount Tire. My son had a 12:00 PM appointment on 07/27/2025 for tires and brakes. He was told there was no need to wait--they'd call us, explain the issue, and get our approval before proceeding. We were told everything would be done in 1.5 hours. We live just 4 minutes away, so I picked him up. After 1.5 hours with no call, we returned--only to find the car still parked exactly where we left it. When we calmly explained the situation, one employee arrogantly said, "I never told you that--we're busy, can't you see?" No apology, no courtesy. When I asked why no one had called, he continued speaking in a condescending, dismissive way. And when I expressed my frustration, he simply said, "Here's your key--you can leave." Unbelievable rudeness and zero respect for customers. This kind of behavior reflects terribly on the company. Shameful. read more

I had a simple slow leak in one of my front tires that just needed to be plugged. So I called and schedule my car to get 4 new tires.. they said we open at 8 come in early and you will be in and out! Great! So I came in at 8am and the guy said oh I can't do your tires now I don't have anyone here till 10:30am.. ok so right there they dropped the ball, they need to have better schedule and communication. When we are talking about people's transportation things need to be scheduled and be kept to a schedule designated. Period! I did get good advice on tires and alignment, car is driving way better I am happy with the work and value but communication and schedule NEEDS to be worked on. read more

The truck my hubby has had for ten years needed a new exhaust system because it rusted out. It was a stock exhaust (based on our knowledge from the dealer at time of purchase). We returned to this store after spending thousands on this truck and my Mercedes coupe for maintenance because we trusted the staff. However, this experience was drastically different. As the customer, he had to look up his wheel base for the truck because the manager helping him was not sure what it was (red flag number one). Then he had two separate conversations with the manager about the exhaust system explicitly telling him his HEMI motor ran into a Y-pipe through a single pipe that exited the passenger side of the car (the manager kept telling him it was supposed to be dual exhaust and said he thought it was aftermarket parts). The hubby repeatedly told him no and insisted that the proper exhaust, which was what was in the vehicle, be used to replace the old system. He even discussed the tailpipe exit that was factory built into the passenger side of the car as evidence that the truck was never dual exhaust (these were additional red flags). There were unfortunately several mix-ups with parts and the repair took close to a week (He dropped it off on Friday morning, and the vehicle was not available until Wednesday. He picked it up the day after it was ready). We paid $1,300 for the repair and drove off. After heading down the street we immediately noticed the vehicle sounded DRAMATICALLY different (in a negative way) from how it sounded for a decade. And the rumbling sound the vehicle made previously was a big reason why the hubby purchased the truck to begin with. He stopped, looked below the vehicle, and saw an extra muffler that was never there before (so now there are two mufflers instead of one muffler and one resonator). He also noticed the system was rubbing up against his spare tire (it was maybe between 1/8" to 1/4" from the rubber of the spare tire), and the tailpipe was not hanging in the position it originally was. We returned the vehicle to the shop and explained our dissatisfaction in a respectful way. Our concerns about the parts were dismissed...so we were forced to accept that our HEMI Ram now sounds like a mini-van with a V-6. The staff did, however, notice how close the pipes were to the spare tire and adjusted the position for proper clearance. So basically we paid $1,300 dollars, which is usually the cost of a performance system, for our truck to sound like a different vehicle with a smaller motor. Simply put...this repair has made the hubby hate his truck after loving it for ten years.  Despite spending thousands on repairs and maintenance on two cars at Mavis...we will no longer bring any vehicles (current or future) because of this experience! The staff was respectful and professional, but we do not feel confident in their abilities to make certain repairs. Furthermore, we regret bringing our car to this shop and spending a substantial sum for the repair. read more

Totally got hosed at this location. The guy quoted me a range of $600-$1200 initially for some work to be done on my car. Then he called and said $640. I said oh great, do the work. Then I get there and he hands me a bill for $1,640. I subsequently reviewed the charges and long behold I was overcharged by about $500. I went in for a flat tire repair and they convinced me to flush & replace the power steering and also to replace the brake steering fluid. For a cost $160.00. I had to go back two days later to again repair the same tire. It was not done properly. So make sure additional services are needed and the work requested is done properly as promised. read more

Both my son and I had bad experience with Ed the manager at the STS in Maple Ave., Ridgewood, NJ. First, he refused my son, while I was there for a warranty extension on the replacement tire because the new tire was defective and had to be replaced for free. Recently, I stopped at the store because after putting air, the tire warning light came on again. He speaking, as if I was an idiot, that the gauge I was using was no good and that I didn't understand the change in temp to pressure relationship. Then he asked the mechanic to add air to my tire and dismissed me. The week after, when the warning light came on again, another shop found a fat metal screw in my tire and could not believe that STS did not even bother to check the tire. Thu, 9/16/21 - Store Location Mavis Discount Tire, 562 N Maple Ave, Ridgewood, NJ 07450, Store ID # 0375 This is an experience I had doing business at this Mavis store in NJ. On Wed, 9/15, I contacted Mavis and the phone was attended by Eric, who I later found out worked at the "call center", very nice person who helped me make an appointment with the store for the tires I wanted for my Nissan Pathfinder and the final price including taxes would be $654 (Order # 49690). I proceeded to the store later that day and met Ethan, another gentleman who was very clear with what was informed to me and also confirmed the price of $654. Later that day I called Eric back to book a second appointment for my Toyota Rav4, Eric advised me to make the appointment online which I did and the total amount came out to $535.92 plus taxes (Order # 49701), I even put down a deposit of $80. Next day, Thu 9/16, I get a call from a Steve who informs me that my Nissan tires had come in and I could bring in my vehicle, given my second car was in the workshop, I could not get to the store right away. Later on Ethan called and left me a VM asking if I still would be coming in. Around 3pm, I got my second car back from the workshop and I proceeded with my Nissan to Mavis and dropped off the vehicle. I get a call later from Stevewho informs me that the tires are almost done and they would be doing the alignment and I should be able to pick it up in a couple of hrs. Around 5.10ish I get a call from Steve who informs me the vehicle is ready for pickup. I reach the store and Ethan tells me the total is $800+! I ask Ethan how that's possible since the agreed amount was $654. Ethan informs me that Steve had got my permission to perform wheel alignment and that's $129.99 extra. I At this point, I am totally confused and Ethan proceeds to call Steve, who peeks from behind a door and says tell him we will give him a $10 discount! I proceed to tell Ethan that I am not aware of this extra charge and I never authorized it. Now Steve comes and starts arguing with a very bad attitude that he informed me he was going to do the wheel alignment and that I agreed. I replied back stating that Steve only informed me the status, Stevenever told me this was extra nor did he tell me what it would cost. Steve's answer simply was, you didn't ask, you should know the standard is $129.99! At this point, I am completely taken back as this was indeed a rip off, Stevevery smartly snuck in a $129.99 charge without clearly explaining to me that this was not included in the original quote, that this was an extra service and that there would be cost associated, neither did he get my authorization for the charge!!!! Steve continues with his rude behavior, telling me it was my responsibility to know this about cars and that it was a standard price I should be aware of! I tell Steve, I don't work at an auto place nor am I familiar with car parts and services, and that is why I come to Mavis because I trust you will be honest and tell me what needs to be fixed at a fair price and not take advantage of me. At this point, Steve tells Ethan take off the charge and cancel the default warranty on the tires sold, and says loudly he cannot come back here if anything is wrong with his tires and such. Ethan takes off the additional charge and somehow, still the bill is close to $690. I ask again this was not the agreed price and then I am not sure what Ethan did but the final price came out to $664.86, still $10 more than the agreed price. Steve then tells me that he has cancelled my second order of tires and I can go get my $80 deposit from whoever I gave it to and he walks away. Ethan at this point tells me, he can still honor my second order of tires and I said I agree as long as I don't have to deal with Steve. At this point, Ethan is going over my second order and Stevecomes back still with his rude behavior and attitude and standing around trying to make an issue. Given all that happened, I ask Ethan to confirm the price that I have the printout for the second set of tires and that I do not want anything extra! Steve jumps in and tells me its what's shown on the screen, $535.92 plus tax, I ask what about my deposit of $80, he answers this amount is after the deposit and that shipping and handling is not included, the price is incorrect, the tires are worth more and such and keeps talking trying to make an issue again! I tell Ethan, Ethan please, the final amount for the second set of tires is $535.92 plus taxes minus the $80 deposit. Ethan takes a second look and he confirms yes, that was accurate and then proceeded to tell me about the TPS monitoring that is charged extra for $6.99 each. I agree to that as being extra and nothing more. I asked Ethan to write this down on my confirmation paper so that this kind of rip off or confusion will not happen again tomorrow. I leave the store, come back home and I contact customer service and explained the situation to the nice lady that read more

Brought it back in and they found another nail and staple in the tire but it couldn't be repaired. They quoted me 309 for a new tire mounted and balanced. I went to my car dealership and paid 265. I have come here several times for various tire-related issues and they always do a good job and are competitively priced! I came again today for new tires and stayed in the waiting area and got to observe the action for a while. They are great with customers and try to honestly estimate the wait times and give the most prompt service possible, depending on who arrives late or early for appointments or unexpectedly with no appointment. This place is absolutely terrible. It seems like these people are not qualified to work on cars. I brought in my family members car which I had slid into a curb with in the snow with the front right tire. I brought it in the next day and they told me they could fix it before the day was over. They gave me the estimated price. Then before I picked it up the manager called me to tell me that they couldn't align that wheel correctly but that it was good enough and not to worry. I took their word for it and payed their full price. Then I realized it the wheel was still seriously crooked and I took it to a different mechanic that my family knew. He told me they had ripped me off terribly and that it could have been fixed for half their price. Outraged, I went back to the STS and showed them the fixed car and expressed how unacceptable their service had been. They took complete advantage of me. A 21 yr old college student paying out of his pocket. They came up with very shallow excuses and told me there was nothing i could do to get my money back. Instead he insisted that I come back with any car that needed servicing and he would not charge me. My own car needed an oil change and some new bulbs for my headlights so he told me to bring it in and he would take care of everything for free. I took my car for an oil change and they gave me the wrong oil after I questioned them about it. Then, they didn't fix my headlight issue. I took it back and they managed to fix it but I realized they seemed very dim. A week later one of them went out again. I took it back and they fixed it. Then my high beam went out. I took it back and they claimed that who ever had tried to replace that highbeam had broken it and essentially jammed it inside the compartment and there was nothing they could do. At this point I bet they screwed it up. Also he didn't know my headlight from my high beam. Then a few hours later as I was driving the low beam he had just replaced went out. This time I took a look under the hood and realized the bulbs were just hanging in the compartment instead of being locked in place. I took a look at the other headlight and that one was also hanging loosely. That was the reason they looked so dim. In conclusion, these people will take in any car, even if they cannot fix it, they'll hand it back to you and tell you everything is great, they will over charge you and your car will break within weeks. THEY CAN'T EVEN CHANGE A HEADLIGHT! I am in awe. Beware read more

I went there to have a slow leaking tire checked out. I asked that my tire be checked for a nail in it, etc. When I got my car back in about 10 minutes, I was told that the valve was loose and I'm good to go. 2 weeks later, my air pressure warning light came on again and I checked the same tire and the tire was missing 10 pds of pressure. I went back to the same place yesterday and I was told that they probably would have to replace the entire valve which would run me $80 + labor and it would take several hours. I was still not convinced that someone actually checked to see if I had a nail in my tire, so I left. I went up to my dealership to see if they could fit me in and they found a nail in my tire, gave me a loaner car for about 2 hours and treated me wonderfully. I'll never come back to STS. If they can't get a simple job done, I wouldn't trust them for anything else! read more

This place is simply terrific. They have the feel of a neighborhood repair place but with the resources of a chain. I have used them for 11 years for everything from oil changes to replacing sway bars. The work is always done in a timely manner -- often a few hours earlier than expected. The only negative (for which I didn't take off a star) is that they sometimes do politely try to up-sell you on the phone when they call to say the car is almost ready. For example, even with an oil change they'll sometimes say things like, "The manufacturer recommends changing the cabin air filter." FYI, cabin air filters in newer cars are SUPER easy to change by simply pulling down the glove compartment door in a special way (see YouTube). You can easily save $50 by doing that kind of thing yourself. So, now I always decline the up-sell and do my research online after the fact. But back to the good stuff. I have trusted STS with three cars in 11 years and have never had one problem with any of the service they provided. Not only that, but I even had a rental van from Hertz with low tire pressure during a snow storm and STS in Ridgewood topped off the tires for free. My home pump didn't have enough pressure to inflate the van's tires and the gas station's pay-per-use pump wasn't up to the task either, but STS helped me because they recognized me as a loyal customer. read more

Never ever go to this shop. I went for 2 problems. Alignment and rear wheel noise. After spending 1200$ with parts and labor, both my issues are not fixed. They could have charged me for things I didn't need or told me a I needed new tires, etc. but they didn't. I will definitely be back for whatever service I need. I'm NEVER going here again. I went there in the summer of 2013 to get my check engine light taken care of and a broken a/c. They said it was all fixed, I paid and left. A week later the light was back on. Went back, they "fixed"it again, I paid more, and left. 2 weeks later, same thing but they tell me the repair will cost $3000. What was my money going to before when it was "fixed"? They were rude through the whole process. I didn't get the final repair there. Now my a/c stopped working 9 months later, and apparently it's not covered under the warranty I have for the last a/c "repair". They had my car for 2 days to tell me they couldn't fix the a/c unless I was willing to spend more money. What were they doing with my car for 2 days and why isn't this covered under the warranty I still have? Scam all around. So nearly $2000 later my check engine light is still on and my a/c doesn't work. They got my money and i have nothing to show for their "repairs". I should have done my research, cause I've heard nothing but similar stories of shady business and financial holes people get stuck in at this place.
