Please read this entire review! I went to this Mavis on 7/7/19 for break pad changes because it was the only place I could find a 930 AM appt on a Sunday. I live in Riverside and made the mistake of telling Mavis I would leave the car, but that I needed it for a trip to Md that night at 5. After going back several times throughout the day, they finally got it on the lift at about 3:00pm. I was told in addition to the break pads that my back driver's back break caliper needed to be replaced? I resisted, (I didn't believe mechanic) but finally agreed to change it. (I'm still not convinced I even needed to change caliper) I was told I would be called when it was ready before 5pm and was never called. I got back to shop at 455 in a panic and the car was still on lift. At about 5:20 pm they finished. (2 people remained - shop closed at 5!) I paid $619.00 and drove down to Md with my 15 year old son. About half way down to Md, I felt that my breaks were a little mushy and not working properly. I was livid and I carefully drove the rest of the way to my destination and I couldn't believe my breaks weren't working properly. What I didn't know is that the caliper that was replaced had completely fallen off and was hanging by the hose! I spent the next day in Md, inconvenienced and getting the caliper fixed and paying $380 for additional service. I was told that had the caliper piston popped off, I would have lost breaks completely and that I was EXTREMELY lucky that a tragedy was avoided! Crazy! After bringing this up with Mavis when I got back home a few days later and a lot of going back and forth, I was finally offered on 8/23/19 ONLY the $380.00 to pay for the extra work done in Md and a voucher for future work. Clearly I didn't want the voucher for future work! More than the money, my bigger concern is the safety policy of this Mavis. NOTHING was discussed as to how they were going to investigate this incident or fix it so that it wouldn't happen again. Obviously use this Mavis location at your own risk. I found the customer service to be terrible on the day of service and the fact that they put my son and me in a life threatening situation and offered to only pay for the extra work was really unbelievable. No consideration for my time and aggravation the next day and also for putting our lives in jeopardy. Their customer service was terrible on the day I was there and clearly they were rushed at end and didn't even tighten the caliper. The regional manager, John Fowkes, was helpful in the process as far as communication, but always used his boss (never got a name) as the one making the decision on reimbursing me for my Md bill and nothing else. I'd stay away from this service station. As many of the other reviews indicate, they have a customer service issue, and according to my experience, they have a safety issue, which is even more alarming. Please choose your mechanic wisely. This was really a scary situation and one that was handled completely inappropriately. They NEVER even apologized. read more

Spent over $1300 here on new tires and had to wait 9 hours and given 3 different final prices.when I got it back the tire pressure sensor wasn't working. The gentleman told me to just drive with it and it will reset. It didn't. Called and was told it would be about 30-40 min wait to fix and to bring it in whenever and give work order no. Went in as they opened and was told it was going to be 6 hours...for a tires pressure sensor check. Wouldn't do anything about it. Never going back to buy tires here. read more

I was aware of the number of jobs ahead of my simple tire plug when I dropped it off at 1pm on 7/22/2019. I was aware of oncoming rain storm. I am generally understanding of mechanics having to handle multiple personalities and automotive issues. But I was told 2.5-3 hr for completion. I approached staff multiple times at 4-5pm. My tire was finally looked at 4.5 hours after I dropped off car. I went away for 2 hours, returned and waited there an additional 3 hours! Horrible service! I waited 5 hrs for a 10 minute job. I've brought my car there previously. This center used to have excellent service. I will find another location to service my vehicle. read more

Amazing service! I called the day before a blizzard on the off chance there was some availability to replace my seriously neglected tires. I was 100% sure I needed new front tires and suspected I needed all four. Todd told me to come in right away & he would get my car in immediately! I always feel like any time I'm bringing my car in for any type of service I'm being ripped off, but that was definitely not my experience here. Todd took his time inspecting my tires & explained all of my opinions from super cheap tires to top of the line. He broke down the warranties and pros and cons of each option. Was 90% sure I needed breaks too and they broke down all of the possible costs. Was so surprised that I didn't need new brakes & am extremely grateful that they didn't just replace them just to charge me (I was pretty clear with Todd that I know very little about cars and was worried about the brakes). They were very busy but still worked me in same day. Very grateful to have found a trustworthy place to bring my car! read more

Went a few times a couple years ago and they were reasonable. A bit expensive but convenient location and pretty quick. Recently went there, not sure what happened. Similar experience to a lot of people on here. I dropped my car off and said I needed the car in a couple hours, called 3 hours later they said it would be another hour as they were busy and would call when done. Drive down 3 hours later at closing time, car was sitting out front and hadn't moved. I was furious took my keys back and will never give any more business. read more

This was my second time going to Mavis in Riverside. I needed to switch out 2 bald tires..BRIDGESTONE DUELER RUN FLATS 19 inch and have them balanced and remounted. I dropped my car off on my lunch hour and was told it would take a couple hours since they were a little busy. Within the promised time, i was able to go pick my car up and go back to my regular routine. The price was reasonable and the service was great. Run flats take 30 mins to balance (each tire) and then i have the TPM which they had to reset Total cost $85...and the bmw dealer wanted $200. Not bad Mavis!! read more

Always pleasant and helpful when you call or visit. But they over-promise. Whether that is by intent, or simply out of a desire to be helpful, I cannot say. More likely than not, they simply get busy and then something has to give. If that's your repair that has to wait...well, so it goes. Thus, wait times can get long and that promise of "Come in at 8 and we'll take care of you right away," should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, they seem honest and earnest. read more

Had squeaky brakes for about two weeks and figured I was in need of new brake pads, as the car does have 35k miles. After taking a look, Ed (owner/manager) said he was happy to put new brake pads on, but mine were in great condition. Put some lubricant on the pads and they have been great ever since. Eddie we miss you, sorry to see you retired, another reliable place down the drain. I was long time customer and referred a lot of coworkers to Mavis, Eddie recently retired, he was only person you could truly trust there. I just sent my son for simple alignment, they left him waiting ~4 hours as they took one after another person ahead of him, then finally told him he needed tie rods because the ones on the car "were frozen", even showed them to him? well that's a load of "_ _ _ _" they never even touched a wrench to it. Any simple mechanic knows how to use penetrating spray and a torch? or better yet a wrench? they weren't even rusted, just covered in grease, and you do actually need a wrench to get these off by the way. Beware, these guys are likely telling many customers they need parts they don't need and the common courtesy seems lacking as well. so sorry... read more

A truly terrible repair shop. I picked up a nail in my tire yesterday. I called Mavis. They told me to come right in. When I got there the place was mobbed. I have been a customer for years but new management is now running the place.The service manager said the idiots who answer the phone are not on site but in some windowless room somewhere. I offer to leave the car or come back another time. He walks me out in the lot and says a guy will fix it before going to lunch and I should slip him $20. The repair guy comes out with a stick in plug. I asked him if a proper repair should include removing the tire, inspecting for damage, and patching from the inside. He says Mavis always does it this way and stuffs my $20 into his jeans. When I get home I call 3 other Mavis Tire Centers and they all say a tire with 14,000 miles on a car still under warranty should never be repaired in this manner. I return to the shop. The manager apologies and says they they will do a proper repair. I leave the car and walk home 2 miles in 90 degree heat. I call 3 hours later and am told the car is being worked on and they will call me. They never call. I return for the car and they have done nothing at all. The manager says the service manager says it is fine as is. Of course this isn't true. The tire warranty is now void and the tire is unsafe. Never go there. They quite simply lie, cheat, and steal. Just to be fair to Mavis I sent them an email and they assigned me the following. "Thank you for submitting your request. A new Customer Service Ticket has been created for you." Now of course that is the last I heard from them but I do have a nice number that I get to keep as a souvenir. Thankfully Town Fair Tire took incredible care of me. For less than $10 bucks they removed the tire fixed it from the inside properly and re balanced the wheel. A grateful $5 tip to the counter guy and $5 more to the repair man and the job is done right. You would have to be an idiot to go to Mavis, I was, never again. read more

I made a 1:30 appointment online for installation of snow tires already on rims, the simplest possible task for a shop that specializes in tires. I appeared on time. They had no record of my appointment, but they agreed to take the car anyway. Then they told me that despite the 3-hour work window that the online appointment specified, my car probably wouldn't be finished until 8:30 that night. (They have late Thursday hours.) At 8 pm, having heard nothing, I called. I was told that the car might or might not be done that night; I should wait for their call. None was forthcoming until 10:30 the next morning, when I was told the car was done. When I picked the car up, I received no expression of regret, no apology. I drove the car away, and it wasn't one minute before the car's TPMS alarm went off, telling me that two tires had psi of 29 (proper), one had 26 (low), and one had 21 (very low). I don't trust TPMS, but I confirmed those readings (approximately) with my own gauge. So they lost my appointment, the work wasn't done timely, the work wasn't done properly, and they weren't gracious about it. That's 0 for 4. read more

Stripped my wheel locks. Gave the car back with only 4 of 5 lug nuts on each wheel. After I signed the credit card slip, they hand me my keys along with the 4 wheel locks that had been on my car. They tell me that they could not put them back on. I looked at them. They could not put them back on because they stripped the special socket that you need to take them on and put them off. I said they stripped the socket because they used an impact wrench instead of a hand tool. The manager tells me that you have to use the impact wrench because you can't get them off by hand. I said really? Because I took the one I had the flat on off by hand. In the rain. In a suit. He also tells me that the wheel locks are old. I said really? The car is a 2013 with OEM tires. He tells me the wheel locks are poorly made. I said really? Lexus gives its customers crappy wheel locks? Interesting. Let's assume he's right. That wheel locks are poorly made and easy to strip. Since he knows this fact, isn't that even more reason to train his staff to remove them by hand instead of with the impact wrench? I get out to my car (unlocked in a bank parking lot across the street). I check the wheels. They only put 4 lug nuts on each wheel (because the 5th was related to the stripped socket that I had in my hand). So not only do they ruin my property because they are too lazy to remove the wheel locks by hand, they give me a car back that is unsafe because they are lazy. Dash board covered in brake dust where they put the work order. Not wiped up. Lazy. The price was the same as at Town Fair Tire and only $150 cheaper than the dealer - who would give me a loaner. I chose Mavis cause it was close to work. Never again. They did come out and put on the 5th lug nut and offered to pay for the wheel locks. Too little too late. read more

I have never been treated so rudely and unprofessionally by a dealership like Mavis. I scheduled a 3:00pm appointment to have all 4 tires on my car inspected since I was continuously observing on my dashboard that there was a tire problem. Last week, I went to a local gas station and the guy there filled all 4 tires with air. He suggested that I go to a tire place to check out what was going on. Maybe a slow leak or whatever. I scheduled an appointment with Mavis Tire in Riverside, CT. Since it couldn't have been a lengthy job, I said that I would wait for the car. By 4:00pm, nobody even acknowledged that I was waiting. I went over to the counter to inquire whether they were aware that I was even there. The guy told me that I could leave the car until tomorrow since they were so busy! I told them that I had no way of getting home. He didn't even offer me a time to come tomorrow and just walked away. I walked out, never to return, and by the way, it was pouring rain...I'll go elsewhere from now on read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Took the car here for new tires and they scratched up the wheels (especially the center cap) quite badly. My car is relatively new (20K miles) and this is my first set of new tires and after seeing my wheels scratched when picking up with the car, the management completely denied any wrong doing and didn't want to take any responsibility. I highly recommend you second think going to this place but if you do end up going, make sure you take detailed pictures of your car before handing them the keys. Lesson hard learnt! I am doing the only thing I can at this point, spreading the word on Yelp, social media and local Greenwich forums hoping no one else ends up in this unfortunate situation. read more

I used to go here all the time for my family's cars - alignments, tires, etc. The manager Eddie always took care of you and prices were good. Now that he is gone a strange guy Omar took over and just lies to your face. The work comes out wrong. Bad alignment on 1 car. Lost tire caps on my other car and scratched it, said it was always there. The wait is way longer than they promised (3 hours versus 90 mins). After 3 bad experiences in a row 15 year relationship is gone. read more

Called to confirm tires were in stock on a Monday, they told me to drop the car off first thing Tuesday. Called throughout the day to see the status and no on answered the phone. Showed up at 6:00 PM to find my car in the bay with no new tires. When I asked, they said they could not find the tires (no one called to tell me that). They of course were there, but I understood they were busy so I asked if it would be better to come back another day. I returned Friday after Thanksgiving to be told it would be a long day because there was a backlog form Wednesday (I was originally there Tuesday) but it would get done by the end of the day. I got a call at 7:30 (they close at 6) saying it was done and I had to come pick the car up and they were closing shortly. I ended up going the next day to finally get the car. Very frustrating experience and I did not even mention the fact that my clutch was coincidentally roasted after being with them. read more

I recently got a flat on my tires due to a piece of a blade so I took it to this place where I purchased the tires originally to get it patched/plugged and after waiting about 2hrs they tell me I have to get a new tire. I knew this didn't make sense as the piece of blade was not on the side wall of the tire and it wasn't a big cut they tried to get me to leave my rim while they order a new tire and said it definitely wasn't repairable. I knew it sounded shady so I took it to Town Fair Tire in Stamford and they fixed the tire right away for $4.20!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good bye Mavis! read more

This place is fantastic. I realized I had a flat tire while I was right around the corner from Mavis, so I pulled in (about 15 minutes before they were scheduled to close) hoping they might be willing to help. They were busy so once I realized how close to closing time it was, I feared I would be out of luck. I was wrong. They took my car in within 15 minutes, determined that it was a nail in the tire, removed the nail, patched the hole, and I was out of there within 30 minutes after paying about $20. I would have paid twice that much considering the situation. I had just picked up my son from daycare, so the fact that they were able to offer a quick, safe, reasonably priced fix was a huge relief. I have used Mavis in Riverside for a number of years and for several cars, so I am finally giving up on this service shop. My most recent experience was the icing on the cake and will explain why: Mad an appointment for 9am on 8/25 for purchase of 3 new tires and a check of one recently purchased tire that was losing air. At opening(9am), there were 7 people ahead so appointments make no difference. Around 11:30 am, they called to say the car was ready. Great?... I indicated that I would be there in 1.5 hours. About 5 minutes away, I received another call to say they had broken the wheel lock key on the car and therefor could not replace the tirees without breaking all of the locks. It would take another 2-3 hours to do after breaking all locks. Really??? ... I am taking this car to the dealer who is only $10 more per tire and they provide a loaner. Tried to give this service the benefit of the doubt... but would not trust them to do anything on any car. read more

Worst customer service. Called this morning to drop off just a tire to get changed and balanced they told me 45 minutes to do, and I was ok with that. Dropped it off at 10am they told me it would be done at 1pm, and I was ok with that. Show up at 3pm and the tire was sitting right where I left it and the guy tells me wait 20 minutes and he will get it done. That's when I lost it!! Afer being a customer for at least six years, always being patient regarding them not honoring scheduled appointments (by phone or through website), I continued to bring my car in because I always got the service done. On December, 2018 I needed to replace the exhaust and also purchased some winter tires. After dropping off my car early in the morning, late afternoon still had not heard from them, when I called, their excuse - We didn't receive the tires (bullshit), the tires had been delivered the day before - Ok, next day, nothing, the following day I was told something had happened and my car was towed to a nearby mechanic center. Mavis, at that moment offered a rental, which I took it. January comes, I receive a call that my car was TOTALED - wtf? Yes, at that moment I started seeing another side of the man I was dealing with that I'd never seen before during all the years of being a customer. I was being cool with everything but when I got a call from their insurance offering half of the value of my car, I got my insurance involved. I was charged for the 18 days of rental, but the representative at the car rental company was kind enough to assist me with that. I tried to dispute the amount I paid on the tires, no lucky there, almost $500 on something that was never used (they had installed the tires) but unfortunately I paid using the Goodyear-Mavis credit card. I should have known they wouldn't take responsibility. This past weekend I drove by and saw The Mavis Tire Center of Riverside has had their license suspended and the shop is closed. I thought I would give the place the benefit of the doubt even though most of the reviews are horrible. I figured it can't be that bad. I was wrong! This place is the horribly run business as described in all the negative posts here on Yelp, and elsewhere. - First don't believe any of the names they give you on the phone, because when you get there they tell you there is no one working there by that name. Customer service is non-existent, and no one gives you a straight answer. And this so called Eddie they all speak of is nowhere to be found. They are all unprofessional, look miserable, and disheveled! They don't keep their word and bold face lie to you. - I'm not going to rehash all the details, but it was so bad, I told them what they could do with their tires and left.
