OK, so I really have not written a review in the past but I was really upset and I wanted to warn others of my experience. I drove my car into the Mavis Tire Center in Smithtown with a small leak in one of my tires. I was going to drive to Rochester, so I did not want to go with a small leak. I saw the nail in the center of the tire tread before I went in and knew that it was the culprit. I was told that the wait would be an hour and a half. I really did not have a choice so I agreed and waited. When my car was finally brought in, they took the tire off and started to repair it. I stood outside the garage but watched. I found out the person working on my car was new from one of the others there. The technician started to work on the tire, taking out the small nail. I found out that they only "plug" the tire versus "patch" it from the inside. (Side note: I repaired many hundreds of tires in my history as I worked for another name brand tire company - so I really do know the process). Once the nail was out, the technician used a tool (pictured here) to make the hole BIGGER so that they can get the plug and tool in the tire. So, once he forced the tool into the tire, he moved it in a circular fashion making the hole BIGGER. He struggled with it the whole time. The manager (Bruno) also came to help with the tire. They seemed to be taking far too long to fix it. Then, the manager comes to me and says that the hole is TOO BIG to fix. He said he tried 2 plugs at one time but it still leaked. I was more than shocked. He said that I needed a new tire. I told him that it was a small nail (see picture) that went straight in. How could it be too big? He said that he could order me a tire as he did not have one. I said that he owed me a tire as it was not that big of a hole until his team made it bigger. He said that he would not even help with the cost because he does hundreds of plugs and mine is just too big. He also did not have the tire in stock and would not get it until sometime Saturday if I wanted one - note that this was on Friday and I was planning on driving to Rochester in that car Friday night. Again, I drove in with the small leak on the Chrysler minivan. I was upset but the manager told me that he needs the spot and will not help with a new tire and that he needs to get me out of his shop and planned to just fill it up with 40 psi and the two plugs that were leaking and park my car outside - REALLY. I said that he at least had to put the spare on, which he did with a lot of help from me to even find it, drop it down from the center of the vehicle, and help to get it out. This was a really bad experience and was really due to the way that I was handled after the service center damaged the tire beyond repair. Now, a small leak (very repairable) will cost me $174 plus tax to get fixed correctly. You can make your own assessment but I think it is clear from the pictures that it should have been easily repaired. I think that Mavis owes me a new tire. We will see how they respond to their customers via reviews. I am more than open to discuss this with a higher level management spokesperson to resolve this issue. This particular Mavis has been servicing my car (2006 RX400h) for a number of years. Twice new tires (best price I could find for the tires I wanted!), front and rear struts, brakes, inspections, oil changes. Always courteous and very accommodating. Never had to bring it back for any problem on any repair or service I have had done. read more

I am skeptical of chains as the previous review states, but was pleasantly surprised with this Mavis. It is conveniently located as I can walk home and that is what enticed me to try them. I was greeted by a courteous manager who obliged my every request. They even took me in the shop to show me what went wrong with my tire. When getting a new tire I also asked them to fix a piece that was hanging off the bottom of my car and fill my tires with air, they did so enthusiastically and in less than 30 minutes! My husband and I brought our car to be inspected. We didn't have an appointment but it only took about 20 mins. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our tires passed but he let us know that we should get them changed soon. I appreciated that they didn't try to nickel and dime us. read more

I've been taking my vehicles here for years with great service but after yesterday I will no longer be coming to Mavis. I called the night before and made an appointment to drop off my truck for a NYS inspection, oil change, tire rotation and fix a leaking tire. I stressed on the phone and when I dropped it off at 8:00 am that I needed it back by 4:00pm. First they failed me for inspection because of tinted windows which they had no problem passing last year. Second they said they fixed the leak and filled the tire back up which either they didn't fix it or didn't fill it up because it's still very low. But most importantly I had to wait till almost 5:00pm to get my truck which forced me to cancel plans and made me an hour late picking up my children. Having my truck for 8hrs!!! Is more than enough time to get it done. read more

Broke all of my tire sensors on my Yukon XL. After getting a set of tires for my truck, the check tire sensor warning came up on my dash. When I asked the manager at Mavis why this was, he replied that this was common and the dealer needs to reset them. I went to the dealer and he explained that all of them were broken. I went back to Mavis and tbe manager was a it of a jerk about it and told me it was my problem. I went to another GMC dealer just to check if these were indeed broken and this service department had the same answer, all broken. Bottom like was I had to buy all new sensors and have them re installed by a competent service department. Mavis in smithtown is terrible. read more

Had an appointment for 10am on Saturday. Got there 5 minutes early. Told it would be an hour wait before car could get on a lift. Said ok but not thrilled. Turned out to be about twenty minute wait and about another twenty for the oil change to be done. Satisfied with just under an hour. Employees very customer friendly as usual, Gave me coupon price without asking for it - nice welcome touch. Price with the coupon was better than competitive pricing. read more

I've chosen Smithtown Mavis for just about all of my car repair needs since I've owned my car and I've never had a bad experience. They recently took in my car on a Sunday and had it back to me by Monday night at 7:30 PM (they continued to work on it even after they technically close at 6:00 PM). I feel like I can trust the manager James and never feel like I'm being talked down to or pushed around to do more than is worth my money. I would definitely recommend Smithtown Mavis if you're looking for great service. read more

I am a customer of Mavis for many years, and I recently had an unfortunate experience with an employee at this location (12/4/18). I filed a complaint with the corporate office and they're handling the matter with the regional manager. I'm a non-confrontational and easy going person, but an employee at this location really disappointed me by his behavior. Without going into much detail, the person I dealt with at the counter was being very brazen and rude to an older woman on line in front of me, then proceeded to have the same attitude with me. Customer service skills are clearly severely lacking. I decided to cancel my appointment as we spoke, and as I was leaving this employee confronted me by claiming I "cursed" at him and threatened to report me after reading my jacket. It was unexpected, and massively unprofessional to threaten a customer and act so rude. The kind woman I spoke with at corporate reaffirmed that the situation would be handled and redirected me to the St.James location where I had a much more pleasant experience. I will remain a Mavis customer, but unless this emplyee is terminated or retrained in customer service skills, I will not return to this location. Save yourself the potential frustration and visit a different location, I urge you. read more

I was actually a very loyal Mavis customer for years until today's experience. My son took my Toyota Highlander to Mavis 20 minutes before they closed to get a tire plugged--They are closed Monday for the holiday and I have to go to Garden City on Tuesday morning. I did not purposely wait till the last second, I had to wait for roadside assistance to take the tire off as we could not budge it. Needless to say he was turned away-- they said they had three other people to take care of which I understand but really he was there already and you know your closed tomorrow. He asked if they could call the Mavis down the road on Maple Ave and he rudely told him no he was too busy!! My son had run out of the house so quick he forgot his cell phone trying to make it to them before they closed. I think the whole thing that's so disturbing about this is the rudeness and meanwhile I am a customer for a dozen years--NEVER AGAIN. I will use Costco for my tires now and look around for other service shops. If I wasn't on the phone with my son at that time (he borrowed a phone to call me) hearing his rudeness in the background for myself I would not have put this review up but that is not how you treat loyal customers! read more

This was the worst car experience I have ever had. I had a flat tire and brought in my car to get it replaced. I got a call stating it was ready to be picked up. When I came to pickup my car I was informed that the mirror had accidentally been ripped off by a nearby hanging cable and that they would replace it. I emphasized that I did not want an aftermarket part and they informed me that it would not be aftermarket and it would look like it was never changed. I agreed and when I came back the next day they show me an unpainted mirror. I explained that I was told that the mirror would look exactly the same and look like it was never changed. Mickey, the manager of this poor run establishment, responds saying "well your original had a scratch. Would you like me to paint it for you and then scratch it?" I brought my car in for a repair and got it back more damaged then it was left. I did not deserve the rudeness that was given to me. Its not too good hearing the manager of a store say "the brake pads i installed might work properly" $455 dollars later when they told me they changed all my rotors calipers and pads, i find myself back there within two weeks, with my brakes sqeeking. Turns out they installed the complete wrong rotors and pads. Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemies, horrible service and dishonest managers. My car will never be put in a Mavis garage ever again. read more

This is what auto repair experience should be like. I've gone to this location about five times now and each time they've done a very good job. There is no appointment needed, they are courteous, professional and the managers are very attentive and professional. They do an amazing job with brakes and always make sound recommendations on what needs to be done. I am a car expert so I know when I'm getting the wrong information. These guys are spot on. On the negative side, I recommend just looking over everything because I have had the wrong oil filter installed (was way too long and hanging at the bottom of the car). Another time I had an alignment and the steering wheel was way off center. Had to take it back. So other than some of the minor details, you can count on decent work, great tire and brake service. I ordered 2 tires then brought the old when fred called to say they were in. I asked for the Tpms pack ( has chrome valve) which was 7$ a tire. I got a call to say tires were done but after I paid they rolled out the tires and they hadn't replaced the Tpms valves. I told them that the tires needed rebalancing because you have to break the tire seals and tire could shift, they said ok. I watched and they didn't rebalance then said they were done. I told john and he said Fred the manager told him they didn't need to be done. I argued with fred telling him when you break both seals which I clearly saw you have to rebalance. I then called corporate and I went to mavis at 393 middle country rd and corporate contacted the new store to rebalance them. The manager at 393 said of course they needed to rebalance them and on top of that Fred at original store kept the chrome caps which I paid for. A year and a half earlier this store had to realign my other car 3 times and steering wheel never was straight again. I had four new tires and alignment at this Mavis back in 2013. Staff was honest, efficient and work done well. Last week I went to a Firestone to get my car inspection because it was on my way to where I was going and it failed inspection due to a "rip" in a tire, a "steel blade coming out of" a tire, and low treads. I denied to get it fixed there, instead bringing it back to Mavis to have them check the tires as they were the ones to put them on, and there was a warranty. Assisstant Manager Danny was extremely helpful and accomodating and got me an appointment right away. My tires were fully checked out, he even personally brought me to the car to show me. Lo and Behold, there was NO rip, NO steel blade, and the treads fell well into the safety bracket. They finished the inspection for me, and I was on my way. Danny and his team again exemplified honesty, efficiency and caring about the customer. He truly felt bad that I had this awful experience with Firestone. I will stick with this Mavis! read more
