I went to the Mavis in West Caldwell NJ in the morning with my girlfriend because she had a hole in the sidewall of her tire. Costco where we had purchased the tire could not help us because the tire was discontinued. They would order us a new tire but there was no telling when it would come in. Mavis on the other hand had a replacement tire for us and they installed it and we were on our way. I then came back to Mavis in the afternoon with my older model mustang convertible for an oil change. I did not have an appointment but they fit me in and I was out of there in 80 minutes. And no high pressure sale attempts. There was one thing that happened while I was waiting for the oil change. The woman a head of me came in for a nail in her new tire. Avis gave her a quote for tire repair. While the car was being checked out on the lift the mechanic discovered that the nail did not push all the way into the tire and there was no air leakage at all. They came out and explained this to her and advised her that there would be no charge. Talk about an honest business. This honesty by their staff made my day. read more

Went to schedule an appointment for tires first Friday... found a nail... said I could get all four tires fixed now... only 40 minutes... Then the asked about alignment should be checked. Then they said rear brakes were only 20% and wanted to have this work done. After 2 hours ... they said they couldn't do the alignment as they were busy... ???? What happened to this company? Facility does not offer radial patches and only does plugs will try and sell you brand new tires for what is a simple fix. They also don't offer synthetic blend oil only regular or full synthetic. after the oil change they listed the next oil change only 5,000 miles away full synthetic can last at minimum 7,500 before a change is required. also left the dip stick out and not completely inserted causing oil to spray all over the engine bay and on my driveway the following day. read more

I had a flat tire and took my car here. I decided to go ahead and replace all four tires because they were pretty worn down. The entire time they kept trying to Upsell me. Stacey was nice and I had a few laughs with her, but David was pushing the sell to me, trying for an extended Warrantee and telling me my brake fluid needed replacing and my battery should be replaced too. I refused most of it. I got home to find my spare tire was in the back seat of my car. If you want a customer to return for more business then do the right thing. Now after spending nearly $1,000 I have the pleasure of getting on my hands and knees to return my spare tire to the underbelly of my car. Screw You Mavis. Look I never leave bad reviews, I don't like being a Karen but these people allowed me to drive home a car they didn't even look at properly. Context: against my better judgement I got my tires rotated at some no name shop because I was desperate and they ended up not tightening my lug nuts properly which meant my car was shaking, hard to control and lever sounds like the wheel was going to fall off. I took it to this Mavis because I'd been her multiple times to have it looked at before. When I brought it in I asked them to check the tire and THEY TOLD ME they took off the tire and examined it and told me - 1) my ball baring on my axel needed to be replaced 2) the caliper was seized and needed to be replaced 3) my brakes were 100% eroded and needed new lines and to be replaced 4) my rotor was damaged and needed to be replaced (All of which was not true) So I told them I didn't have the money for repairs at that moment and asked them to just tighten to lug nuts because it sounded like my tire was loose (plot twist that's what was actually wrong). So they did and I went to my brother in laws cause I figured I'd have him look at the breaks since I'm not gonna pay 700$ for something that takes half an hours to do and costs legit 100$. So as he's trying to take the tire off to get to the breaks he notices 4 OF MY 5 PILERS THAT HOLD THE TIRE ON MY CAR ARE BROKEN THATS RIGHT FOLKS THEY BROKE 4 OF THE SPIKES and I believe some of them might have been broken prior to me going there, the last one we had to use a blow torch to get off the car. NONE of what they told me was wrong with my car was true, my brother in law even commented that it was a waste of money ey to change the breaks cause they were fine. These people didn't even take my tire off to look like they said they did and just over tightened my lug nuts and sent me on my way. I have had problems with Mavis' Bloomfield, NJ location twice. The first was in 2017 and 2018 when my brake light came on every three months. The first time they changed brake fluid and did a flush. The second time they changed brake fluid and said if it happened again to go to a dealership, as they weren't equipped to deal with it. When it happened again, instead of going to a dealership I went to a shop in Bloomfield that a friend recommended, where they discovered that the brake lines were shredded and needed replacement. THIS IS SOMETHING MAVIS SHOULD HAVE NOTICED. I drove for 9 months with inadequate brakes because of them, and the flush was useless. I wrote to them asking for the money spent on the flush back and never heard from them. Fast forward to September, when I have flat tires and have the car towed there because it's a more comfortable place to wait than the shop that fixed the brakes and I think they can't screw up putting tires on. But they do! They don't investigate corrosion on the rims (it's a 2003 model) and in a week, one tire is flat again. (They also tried to upsell me $2000 worth of additional work.) Two weeks later, so is the other one! At first I think it's vandalism, but a police officer śays they're flat, not slashed, and suggests it's the valves. The tow truck driver, who successfully reinflates them, suggests it's corrosion on the rims that's letting air out because the tires aren't sealed. I take the car in and Mavis confirms it's the rims but says they can't be cleaned and must be replaced. They don't sell rims, but they will install them. (Later I ask how much: $20 per tire.) I call the other shop, which says they do sell rims but I should stop by to see if they can be cleaned, and lo and behold they can be! It took them an hour and I was charged $54. Also, Mavis said all 4 rims needed to be replaced, but the other shop said no, only two rims needed to be cleaned. It's been more than 2 weeks and both rims and tires are fine. Mavis just didn't want to be bothered cleaning the rims. That's fine as long as they don't lie about it, but they lied through their teeth. Do not go to this Mavis Tire location for anything. read more

DONT GO HERE! I brought my car there a few weeks ago for new brakes and an oil change- you would think it would be simple enough right?? Well, two weeks later a few sensors went off on my dash and my brake pads are screeching when i stop. SO, i brought to the dealer, they told me Mavis forgot to my air filter back when checking it and i sucked in dirt, and they didnt put the brakes on right, and left my brake fluid cap off and its missing. I knew the bead was loose on the car and these idiots decide to take the air out of my tire and forgot to put the schrader valve back in. So they parked my car with a flat tire after the oil change. Then I tell the manager my tire is flat and he said I have to pull my car out 200 feet for them to put air back into it. Absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention I asked the mechanics who worked on the black Ford and this guy looks at me like a deer in headlights and said I fucked up. Yea no shit. Went there for an oil change. The oil change itself was $75. There was a $10 discount, so $65 for the oil change after coupon. Right? WRONG. After being charged labor (on an oil change!), the oil filter (apparently not included with oil change), and some miscellaneous fee, that $65 oil change cost $120. Decided to try this location out for a new set of tires and was very happy with my decision. The counter man Jim was friendly and efficient. The communication between the shop manager and the counter man was continual. All the service guys that passed through the waiting area were friendly and affable. They had no problem assisting unfamiliar customers with their issues personally. Don't want to give any stars but in order to get posted one must be necessary. Mavis in West Caldwell goes to the very Top of my list of businesses to stay clear of . I was in need of a battery for my work truck and Mavis was right across the street .( great ) Or at least I thought so. First was told the battery needed for my truck wasn't in stock but there was one at one of there other locations and it should be here within 20 minutes. Ok, I can wait. After all I need a battery. Surprise 2 minutes later one of the technicians came out with a battery and started to install. I question whether it was the correct battery and they assured me it was. One week later I was having work done on my truck by my mechanic and he brought to my attention that I had the wrong size battery in my truck. So I went back to Mavis to get this issue fixed. While at Mavis the second time they agreed that it was not the correct battery and that they would change it for me. The technician came out with the battery, put it down in front of my truck and went back to get tools to install it. I inspected the battery and noticed that it had grease on it and that the sticker issuing it manufacturing date was three years old. I paid for a new battery not a used battery. Really Bad Experience Here. Booked an 8:00 appintment for an oil change and a plug in a tire. Asked to stay with car and get it done right away, they said no probem at all. When I got there I was told they can;t do that and I needed to leave car. 1st annoyance. I said ok though and got someone to pick me up but asked if it could be done by lunch and they said no problem. I get a call 3.5 hours later and still havent done anything. They did say they can't plug tire and need a whole new tire. I was skeptical but said ok. He told me they would do it right away. 2 more hours go by and no call. I call over there and they did the oil change but no tire yet because they don;t have that tire, they have a more expensive one, I said fine. However, I said I really need to leave to pickup my daughter and her friends for basketball by 2:30 so if it can;t be done by then we will do it another day. He told me it would be done by 2. Of course, I get there at 2:15 and it's not done, I wait 15 minutes and still not done, I go look at my car andthere is no tire on it. I go in very upset and he said don't worry, we are getting it done right now and give him just 5-10 minutes. I remind him over and over that I was supposed to be gone by 2:30. 15 more minutes go by and at 2:45 i ask whats going on. He says oh just putting the last few lugnuts on your car, will be off the lift in a minute. I go outside to look at car, and of course, no tire on the car at all and no one near my car. He blatently lied to me. I go in and complain, he blames it on the other guy, its a complete shitshow. Finally at 3:05 they get the tire on and off the lift. I had to call all around and find the girls another ride. Also the new tire was low on air! The guy told me it always says that at first but will go off after you drive a few miles. Guess what, 2 days later and 30 miles or so, still on. I go to gas station and that tire is at 26 even though full air is 33. So I had to fill it. two more days later, my check engine light goes on. First time since I got a brand new lease on this car. Who knows what they did, the light is still on. To add insult to injury, I called and complained to corporate and the Regional Director/Manager was supposed to call me. I was assured he would call within a few days. 2.5 weeks later no call. I had to call and complain again to get him on the phone. He didn;t seem to car much at all. I honestly felt very little remorse or care. He did say he would refund the oil change but not the tire change. I wanted the whole bill comped for what I went through and his guys with their lies and inefficiancy. He said there is no way he can do that. Give me a break. I'll never go here again. read more

Another good experience at STS. I stopped in there as a plastic shield under my engine had come loose and was hanging down too low. The service man took a quick look at it, and told me he could take care of it tomorrow morning. Sure enough, I stopped in the next morning and it was taken care of, plus got an oil change in the same trip, all at a fair price. My experiences with STS have always been positive. To me, Vinny, the manager, is an up front and honest guy whose priority, unlike those in many service centers, is doing what's best for the customer. At the end of the day, that's also good for STS because I trust them and continue to use them. I go to STS for maintenance: oil changes, new tires, new batteries, etc. For the more involved mechanical work, I normally take my car to the dealer I purchased it from. That's not to say that they can't handle some of it, but sometimes I prefer manufacturer support. Having new head gaskets put in my Subaru, for example, was something that I preferred that Subaru handle and Vinny admitted they don't do that level of engine work either. Some highlights of my positive experiences with this location would be over a battery I bought a few years ago. As it turned out, the battery started leaking and it corroded some of the paint in my engine bay. Vinny/STS honored their warranty and did a great job cleaning up and sealing the area that had been damaged by the leaking battery. I also purchased a set of tires from them in 2011, and they're still in great shape and a free rotation comes with every oil change. read more

They did a great job. They always do. They happen to be located near my office, so it's super convenient but nevertheless they are honest. That's the most important thing. I had been here many many times and always have a good experience. Last time I brought in my mother in laws car. It needed a lot of work, but it was still done within the promised time frame. They also have tons of easy parking a clean place to wait they ask if you need a ride somewhere. Also the check in and out times are fast. The place is clean. I didn't use the bathroom so I can't comment on that. I can add that if you need to wait awhile a dunkin donuts and a Walgreens and some other errand type running places are within walking distance so you don't have to just sit there. i have been using STS for the occasional tires over the years with no issues. I recently paid them a visit bc my dealership suggested i have new tires put on my truck after my recent service. My dealership quoted me 1800 plus tax for new tires along with another 250 to change some bulbs. Vinny and his crew were very fair and honest when it came to the price in having the work done. I left STS today extremely satisfied and paid hundreds less than my dealership had originally quoted me. Had new brake calipers put in and one only lasted a few thousand miles(the original ones from the manufacturer lasted 120k miles). They wouldn't replace free of charge just because it was out of warranty based on over a year since installed(car isn't used many miles per year). First they put the wrong size tire on my car, then when I went back for the right size tire they damaged the paint on my driver's side door, chipping it down to the primer in three places. Now the manager is telling me that they don't think they were responsible for this! This particular establishment has cost me more money in repairs due to negligence than the actual tires I purchased. Came in to have a nail taking out of the tire, When I got my car back I looked for my wheel lug lock key and it was nowhere to be found. The manager seems to be in disbelief that it was on there and a full so I proceeded to look through my car for a half an hour complete night wasted. He claims he ordered me a new key called weekly to check status and assured me it was on its way call last week and this manager no longer works there. Apparently management really sucked at this particular establishment. To make matters even worse I got another flat tire costing meAlmost $300 in fees including removing a wheel lock and having to get a tow due to the fact that I could not use my spare tire. These guys suck--especially if you're a woman. I will never go here again. I went in for a flat tire and they said my brake sensor was lit on the dashboard and they were required to check the brakes out. I told them the sensor was just on the fritz but that the brakes were fine, brand new even, and that the mechanic just installed the sensor incorrectly. I said, if you can reattach the sensor wires (something another mechanic had done to help me pass inspection after the sensor failed two days after the new brake job), do it, if not, just install my new tires. Four hours later--as I sat in the waiting area, available to consult--Dennis presented me with this huge bill for brand new brakes. I go, "so wait, you replaced perfectly good brakes without asking me?" and he just goes, "yes" and stares blankly at me. What was my recourse? I hate these jerks. I hope they go out of business. I work at the airport down the street and I've told every pilot and flight school about how crappy this place is. Also, the new brake sensor went out about a week later. I went on a Sunday morning to fix my tire which kept losing air. They were done quickly, about 45 minutes. The next day my tire was still low and I took back and they found another nail. It was another quick visit and didn't charge for the 2nd visit. It's a nice location with great people. I'll definitely go back for any tire issues and future oil changes to this location. read more

Very fine experience. Arrived with 2 leaky tires. One tire had a modest issue that was repaired right away. The other had a screw in the sidewall that was not repairable. Unfortunately, they did not have my tire in stock. However, they located the tire at another location in Morristown which allowed me to get everything fixed in one day.
