DESTROYED MY DADS OIL PAN, STAY FAR FAR AWAY. There wasn't even a single thread left in the oil pan... had to get a whole new pan after coming home to see a massive oil leak in the driveway... not to mention the next time we tried to get an oil change we had to get a pan to put it back together as there were no threads left for the plug to hold... I see and hear oil shops using impact guns for drain plugs all the time which is horrifying enough but usually didn't result in needing an entire pan after a single oil change... even the filter threads were pushed well beyond their tolerances ruining the seal forever making it leak permanently. YOU TECHS SHOULD BE ASHAMED. You couldn't pay me to do this to my car, let alone charge people money for literally damaging your car.. yk that saying you get what you pay for? $75 for an old Camry oil change yea that's pretty high-not so high in quality of work, not even worth getting paid for this kind of outcome. If you didn't want to do it why damage it? If you got paid to do it why damage it and let it out your shop without even informing the customer let alone take care of YOUR CUSTOMERS for YOUR mistakes!!! worst experience by far read more

I was a walk-in at this location because I desperately needed an oil change. They were able to accommodate me fairly quickly. My car was ready in a little more than an hour. There's plenty of shopping nearby so I decided to wait for my car and did my grocery shopping while I waited :) The price was fair and they did a great job. They mentioned that my wiper blades needed to be changed, which was very true since it had been over 3 years! I felt like they were attentive to my car and did not try to sell me services that I didn't need. Overall I was very satisfied. I'll be back! read more

Very honest group of employees! Alec was very helpful today, when I came in to get my brakes inspected. My brakes were making some squeaking noises, so I brought my truck in to let the guys check, and make sure my brake Pads were ok, and not scraping. The guys took my vehicle back very quickly to inspect my brakes. After the Technician did the inspection, Alec came back and told me that my brakes were only at 80% wear, and still good to ride on. Very honest people, and that is what I like the most about Mavis Tires & Brakes. This Location, I would totally reccomend to anyone! read more

I bought a tire and needed help getting the old one off and new one on- so we called up here to this location in the afternoon and said they could take care of it for a reasonable price of $30 so my husband went up in the evening b4 closing and they had a situation and explained that they didn't have time to do it that night & to come back sometime early AM and they would be able to help. So we did just that- pulled up and got serviced immediately and even better at no charge! If you are open minded and understanding they seem like they will def take care of you! I have a tire warranty and picked up a monster staple in my rear driver side tire. When I went in Yesterday I was told they don't have a replacement and would have to order it. I was told to fill it up in the morning and it will be fine. I filled it up this morning and it is anything but fine. I called to see if there is a substitute tire I could get just to have a tire I can drive on without a flat tire every couple hours because waiting two days for a tire isn't going to work. While on the phone I was told there is a note in the computer stating which tire was leaking but they had not ordered a new tire. I was told I would receive a return call in 15 minutes. 2 hours later I am done with Mavis and having my tire replaced at Goodyear. It is better and SAFER to pay full price at Goodyear than to wait any longer to deal with you to fulfill the warranty I paid for. I am done with you, my wife is done with you, my daughter is done with you and my dad is done with you. If there is anything I can do to make sure you can't pull this stunt with anybody else again, I guarantee I will be doing just that. read more

I see some bad reviews from a few years ago, but please give this place serious consideration. They have done work for me a couple times in the last 3 months since moving to the area and it has always been top notch. I recently had front struts and springs, rear shocks and rear brakes done on a high mile Toyota Prius. The price was great and the results were fantastic. I got 4 quotes and Mavis had the best price. However, I understand the cheapest price is often not the best deal! The location is clean and very professional. It took a little longer than expected due to them receiving incorrect parts but they kept me informed. I feel bad I don't have their names, but everyone there was awesome. We maintain our vehicles and keep them a long time (200k + miles) and I really appreciate quality work at a fair price. I want to thank them for a job well done! I will be back! read more

Great for tires, not for service. Took my truck in for my complementary tire rotation, since I bought tires from them, and asked that they perform an NC State inspection while it was in. Traditionally, in other garages, if there is something visibly obvious on a vehicle that will cause it to fail the inspection, the mechanic will notify the owner, and simply not do the inspection. Not Mavis on Idlewild. Mavis on Idlewild will notify you that they cannot pass your vehicle on the inspection, then proceed to fail you, and charge you for said inspection. Buy tires from them but that's all I can endorse. read more

Stay Away. I spent over $2200 in January on 4 new tires, wheel alignment, balancing, brakes and an extra warranty. Less than 11 months and 11k miles later, my rear tires are bald and are not safe to drive on. Mavis refuses to stand behind these tires and take care of them for me. As a "courtesy", they want me to spend another $650 to replace the 4 tires. Horrendous customer service and no regard for my safety. read more

I scheduled my appointment online and within 15-minutes I received a call from Keenan who confirmed the appointment and explored my vehicles needs/my concerns. I am from out of state, this was the first time I used their shop though I am not a new customer to Mavis. The call from Keenan was so helpful and it set the tone for the service I was going to receive. Keenan was professional, kind, he listened, he researched my vehicles history to ensure the warranties were captured in pricing, and he communicated well throughout the service appointment. Keenan also took into consideration my trip back home (over 10+ hours) and he made solid recommendations to fix the issues I was experiencing. My vehicle was returned with no issues, no lights on in the dash, and the ride felt good/smooth. I feel confident/safe in my vehicles performance going back home thanks to Keenan and the team at this location. Pricing was as expected and my vehicle was ready pretty quick. read more

Great Customer Service. Dropped my car and keys (convenient service) the night before for a brake evaluation. Turns out I needed new brakes. Got a complete brake service with a 3 yr, 36K mile warranty. Hopefully I won't need to return for any further brake service but if I do I feel like I will be treated fairly. As I was leaving and headed to Costco for a separate tire issue (slow leak), the gentleman at the register overhead this and offered to take a look. 20 minutes later my small hole in the tire was also fixed. Let's start with the good; they have a convenient program: buy 5 oil changes & get one free. That's about it. They're shady about their pricing. Oil change prices seem to go up, and I always do the base level package. I go in for a change, and they charge me for the mid-level, and unbeknownst to them, I had a free change available, so they didn't get the 55 bucks they're so desperate for. Also, when it was time for inspection, they wanted me to pay almost 2k for parts & labor. Went to another licensed inspection spot, and I passed. Just like a majority of car places, they're ready to scam you for a buck. read more

I was looking forward to trying a new shop and ultimately writing a good review. My car is due for an inspection and the engine light was on. My brother in law used his scanner and got the trouble codes - P0050 and P0059. We looked online for a solution and that was to replace one oxygen sensor. We looked at how to do that and it seemed the part was on average in the $50 range. We found a 3 minute video on how to replace it, but he needed to leave. So, rather than chance doing anything stupid, I brought my car to this shop. Despite what I told them, there was a $69 diagnostic charge. I've later discovered most auto parts stores will do this free of charge. I left the car and waited to hear back. Later I received a call that the problem was that it needed an oxygen sensor AND an Engine Control Module. Total parts and labor roughly $1300. Mind you, I already knew what the problem was and how to fix it, but was feeling a little apprehensive without "adult" supervision. (I'm not a mechanic). So, I went by later and picked up my car, explaining that I couldn't do it at this time and would probably sell the car instead. After I left, I immediately took it to another shop. They diagnosed the problem exactly as my brother in law did, They ordered the O2 sensor and fixed the problem and gave me a call. $400 later, still a bit on the high side (but this matched an online quote I had gotten from another party) and I am good to go. What a shame. What a sham. I own three cars and was just looking for a place that wouldn't treat me like I had just fallen off of a boat. Apparently this isn't that place. You can bring your cars here, but I definitely will not be doing so in the future. I can think of 900 reasons to not trust them on top of $75 wasted. read more

Worst customer service ever. They'll never see my cars again. I arrived at 10:37 for a 10:30 appointment, and they ignored me for 15 minutes. Then they told me since I was "late" they had taken 2 other walk-ins and they wouldn't even look at my car for the inspection for another hour and forty-five minutes. The person at the counter didn't offer his name, but claimed to be the manager. I was a long time Griffin Brothers customer, but if this is how they do business now that Mavis took over, thanks but no thanks. read more

Can't even begin to explain how great these guys are. I have 2 older vehicles, a '97 Tacoma and a '91 YJ, that I will never trust with anyone else but this place. One of the problems I had with the YJ was really unique in nature, and these guys proved to be grade A problem solvers. They went above and beyond to find a solution and it was perfect! Everyone is so professional, easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and dare I say... HONEST! Yep. Honest. Their prices are competitive as well. Being female, you can get "little missied" a lot, but not here! I'm not a mechanic, but I'm not a dummy either. These guys aren't trying to get one over on anybody. Have buddies who have helped me work on my vehicles who now say they would be glad to take their own vehicles to Griffin. They were impressed with the service, price, and the solution to my issues. This company has gone down hill significantly since my last visit. They are now owned by a subsidiary company (according to the employee I encountered). They no longer allow anyone to make an appointment, as they have in the past. The current plump manager has no customer service concerns. I purchased 4 expensive tires here last year, and part of the reason I chose Griffin Brothers was because the cost of the tires also included free tire rotations for the lifetime of the tires. Because of the expectation of having to drop off your car, and then return to pick it up later, I have no choice but to go to another company to get my tires rotated now. I can't go without my car as a single person. Nor can I drop it off when I work 15 miles from here! Do not buy any tires from Griffin Brothers, unless you have all the time in the world to drop your car off for at least 3-4 hours. On top of that, you will get greeted by an arrogant, unfriendly manager. Very poor customer service just to make a sale. I will never buy any tires or use their services again. I was also going to pay for a high grade oil change as well. I am in the healthcare business and will make sure others are made aware of how pathetic this company is now. I came in recently for engine service and brake check. I ended up being charged heavily for some very unnecessary work (hundreds). The worse part was that they didn't even fix any part of the problems (not even the brakes)!!! They repeatedly kept implying that the work they were doing was needed to determine the issue. The last straw was when they said they needed to remove the engine cover just to take a look, which is an additional $1,000+ not including labor and 4-5 days of offsite work to machine the suspected part. Needless to say after a full 8 hours of waiting, I quickly left and took my car to the dealership where they diagnosed and fixed the simple engine coil replacement and brake pad & rotor replacement all within 4 hours for less than what I was scammed for at Idlewild - Griffin Bros. location. In short, if you are in need of a basic oil change ONLY, you may have a chance of receiving decent work. read more
