Nothing fancy, just delicious food for an unbelievable price. When you walk into this large spacious "cafeteria" with steam trays, it looks clean and quiet. There was a lady at the cash register that wasn't too helpful, but I guess the communication barrier played a part. At $8.99 per pound, you can really fill up here for an insanely good price. My favorites have been the beef dishes and therefore often skip all the chicken items. However, feel free to make a plate anyway you like. At the end of the day, I'm sure it'll be great.

The spicing can be quite different from other styles of cuisine, but whether or not you like it is a personal decision. I liked most of the food that was offered. I found the baked chicken to be excellent. The stewed chicken and the goat dish were also very good. Vegetables are all excellent...from greens to cabbage to carrots...all are delicious. The whole fish has a distinctive strong taste that took some getting used to...perhaps a lot of paprika and red pepper, but I'm not really sure...certainly a nice portion size. Staff is very friendly and hospitable. Highly recommended.

Cuisine: 9 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 4 Value: 9 Overall: 9 I am not an expert in West African cuisine, but all I can say about the food here is, "Holy shit! It's good!" The setup inside this dimly lit restaurant had a bunch of steam tables offering various beef and chicken dishes, a handful of rice options, and a bunch of salads/fruits. Having no idea what we were looking at, we asked the friendly owner for some advice. After some contemplation, two of us made a plate with all beef over some jollof rice, and another with basically all chicken items over a different type of flavorful rice. We knew it was too much, but our goal was to figure out what we would come back for. Honestly, I did not enjoy most of the chicken because it's sitting in steam trays getting overcooked. Not saying they were terrible, but it all fails in comparison to all the great beef offerings. OMG! You really can't go wrong with any of the beef dishes. My cuisine rating is really based on the various beef items, the yummy veggies, and both amazing rice. The current price is $10.99 per pound regardless what you fill your box with, except a couple of items. We filled our two boxes with about 4lbs of food. Obviously too much, but we got to try many things. No doubt I will be back asap for round two.

Worth it. So much so that I'm coming back a month after our visit to write this review…read more My husband and I were visiting from LA and I was able to snag us reservations on Resy, shoutout to Amex platinum. We arrived for our 9:30 pm reservation (this time worked perfectly for us as west coasters) and were cheerfully greeted by the hostess with a genuine "welcome home" which was the perfect way to start the night. The restaurant was smaller than I'd imagined, which I preferred. It was simply decorated and lit up in purple hues. The music was hip hop/r&b but it wasn't too loud to deter us from talking amongst ourselves or the couple seated next to us. I had the pog nutcracker to drink and it was perfect. To eat we ordered: - ceasar salad - 10/10 came doused in cheese and it was so so good. It contains a bit more ingredients than your standard Caesar and it was 100% worth ordering. - egusi tortellini - 7/10 I was surprised that this dish only came with a small number of tortellini (maybe 3-4?) it just wasn't all that to me and I'd skip it next time. - jerk lamb rib - 10/10 sooo good! everything on the plate worked so well together, from the lamb, tit he pickles, to the milk bread. I was surprised by how much I liked this dish because lamb can be gamey, this one was not. All in all it was a great welcome dinner to NYC and I'd love to come back. Definitely try to score a reservation if you're looking to impress, all of my NYC friends were surprised I was able to get in.

Apps, Patties & wings:good priced ok (over priced wings and were over cooked) Entree: her wagyu pastrami was confusing. Some say it is wagyu steak but that didn't seem like the case. Her entree came out 1st, mine came out 10-15 mins after. Steaming hot but flavorless. Server was nice enough to take it back and insisted. Then I went with the braised ox tails. ENTREE'S: Branzino: over priced and isn't a traditional whole branzino (head on) it was returned thankfully. I would give it another try.$55+ Braised ox tails: very very good. Came with rice & peas as well. Which was really good as well. Over priced or put some more. 3 ox tails and this is supposed to be to be a share kind of restaurant. $55+ Wagyu pastrami: can't even say I've ever heard of it. It was really good but the quality of "Wagyu steak" didn't come through for me. Prices at over a $100+ As everyone knows, it's hard to get reservations here. It's best to go a half hour early to assure to sit. We waited the early half hour and an additional 30 minutes (somewhere in there before opening, they brought out a drink for people waiting) then they cherry pick off the line larger parties. That was frustrating. Inside looks nice and has a good feel, service was really good and professional. I would say they should work on proportions considering it's a "share" kinda style of eating. Not much to share.

I appreciated that they had sports on large screens. We came here with no reservation but had no issue being seated. Our servers were quick and attentive. I ordered the Jollof rice with beef and my friend got the red stew. Unfortunately we both had mixed feelings about our meal. For starters, my Jollof rice was great however I thought the beef would be mixed in. It was spicy with it getting spicier with each bite. Regardless it was very expensive for the little bit of rice you get. You have to order one of additional sides to make it worth it. Unfortunately that just drives the price up. The beef was good and tender but nothing special. There wasn't anything unique about it that stood out to me. Similarly my friend was also got the same beef dish and felt the same. Speaking of, she got the Red Stew and was underwhelmed. It felt more like a spicy sauce than a stew. You could eat it with a fork. She also wasn't much of a fan of the rice but admitted she had a personal preference for sticky rice. The beef was also outside of the "stew". In the end, we both enjoyed our meals and had leftovers to take home. The food for all of my complaints was good. Even she thought so but just wasn't special. Made me instead want to bring her to a different African restaurant in the future. I would this place is great as a lounge with solid food. Given that it specializes in West African food is a good bonus. Makes it very unique and worth checking out. Though I suspect that they're better options in the city for that. Would we go again, probably not.
