The Nem were the perfect crunchy, savory start. My Thiéboudienne (the national dish) was hearty and loaded with flavor--even more impressive, the spice-filled marinade had seeped into every part of the whole fish, something that I don't always find in other Senegalese restaurants. The Thiébou C'est Bon (grilled tilapia with seafood rice) was equally mouth-smacking, loaded with a tasty onion sauce that had us grinning. And for the meat lovers, the chewy Lamb Dibi should satisfy. Portions were huge enough to satisfy any hungry big mama. The place is completely no frills, so don't expect even heat to be working on frigid nights. Just don your Canada Goose and you'll be fine--the piping hot, freshly cooked dishes will make up for it.

Apparently at night it's a combination of both. It was packed and the music was extremely loud. We had to wait for a table and everyone was really dressed up - I guess I didn't get the Memo. The food and drinks were really good and the staff were working hard to keep up with the overwhelming amount of people. I read that Lagos has great food and drinks and they did not disappoint. Lagos decor was exquisite and on point. It was great admiring the display of artifacts on the walls. It was also a great place to people watch. The restaurant was a nice party vibe and everyone was having a great time even the staff. Of course the gratuities were included in your check and I wasn't surprise.

The setup inside this dimly lit restaurant had a bunch of steam tables offering various beef and chicken dishes, a handful of rice options, and a bunch of salads/fruits. Having no idea what we were looking at, we asked the friendly owner for some advice. After some contemplation, two of us made a plate with all beef over some jollof rice, and another with basically all chicken items over a different type of flavorful rice. We knew it was too much, but our goal was to figure out what we would come back for. Honestly, I did not enjoy most of the chicken because it's sitting in steam trays getting overcooked. Not saying they were terrible, but it all fails in comparison to all the great beef offerings. OMG! You really can't go wrong with any of the beef dishes. My cuisine rating is really based on the various beef items, the yummy veggies, and both amazing rice. The current price is $10.99 per pound regardless what you fill your box with, except a couple of items. We filled our two boxes with about 4lbs of food. Obviously too much, but we got to try many things. No doubt I will be back asap for round two.

Chef Kwame Onwuachi's Afro-Caribbean masterpiece tucked inside Lincoln Center is the kind of meal that makes you go quiet mid-bite. We ordered the Bodega Special, oxtails, Mom Duke's shrimp, the wings, and the collards, and every single dish was a 10 out of 10. No weak links. No "it's fine." Just plate after plate of food that made me want to stand up and applaud. (We're at Lincoln Center, it felt appropriate.) The oxtails were fall-off-the-bone tender with a rich, glossy sauce that had layers I'm still thinking about. Mom Duke's shrimp arrived dramatic and beautiful, whole shrimp in a deeply spiced sauce that felt simultaneously fancy and deeply soulful. The collards were unlike any I've had. Complex broth, perfect greens, gorgeous presentation with edible flowers that somehow made the dish feel even more intentional. How is a bowl of collards this exciting?! And then. THE WINGS. I don't throw around "best wings of my life" lightly. I have eaten a LOT of wings. These wings broke my brain. That glaze, that crunch, those dipping sauces. I genuinely don't know what Chef Kwame did to them but it should be illegal. Life changing. I will be back for the wings alone. The room is stunning, the plating is stunning, the whole vibe is fun and lively and cool without trying too hard. This is the best meal I've had in New York in years, and I live here. Book it the second Resy drops the reservations. Do not sleep on it. Do whatever it takes to get a table. You will not regret it.

Cuisine: 8 Service: 4…read moreDecor: 6 Value: 4 Overall: 6 Being one of the most recognizable names in the culinary world for the last few years, I knew eventually I had to come check out this restaurant. Did I have my doubts based on the prices on the menu? Yes! Do I expect it to be much better than the Caribbean cuisine I enjoy often throughout the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and islands themselves? No! Maybe different and certainly elevated. So what's the bottom line? Let's start off with the food, course by course. Crispy Okra (7/10) - For $18, it was essentially about $1 per half of an okra. That seems ridiculous tbh. They were crispy, but also slightly chewy. The flavors were a bit too sweet for me, but the dipping sauce does pair well with it. Curried Goat Patties (9.5/10) - These extreme flavor bombs are the best things we had all night. For people who are worried about gaminess, it's not a problem at all. The flaky crust was perfect. This juicy pocket of goodness may be the reason I return. Jerk Chicken Wings (6/10) - One of the specials of the night. They were good wings, moist and tender. However, where is the jerk? No smoke, no spice, nothing that resembles jerk. More BBQ sauce than anything else. As jerk wings, they fail. Cornbread & Cod (7/10) - Purely judging on taste, I enjoyed the dish overall. Fish was tender sauce was yummy, and cornbread was cornbread. Lol. However, $43 for this appetizer? It is tiny and hard to share as they had suggested. One of the most overpriced items of the night imho. Mom Duke's Shrimp (9/10) - My second favorite item of the night. Similar to a New Orleans style BBQ shrimp, that sauce is to die for. More incredibly, it's hard to find a large shrimp cooked so well. They also provide a soft fluffy brioche for diners to mop up all that yummy head butter and sauce. Fried Branzino (3/10) - I love fish. I love them grilled, steamed, broiled, and obviously, fried. So how could it go so wrong? When you add a sweet overpowering onion heavy rich BBQ-like sauce on top that masks all the natural flavors of this delicate fish. Wagyu Short Rib Pastrami Suya (9/10) - Putting the $120 price tag aside, this was absolutely delicious. The server said this was their signature dish, and I can see why. Beautifully cured, each bite was juicy and tender. Would I rather have three Katz's pastrami sandwiches for the same price? That is the better question. For me, definitely yes! Golden Rum Cake (7/10) - Wish there was a hint more of rum, though the cake was quite moist. The gooseberry and whipped cream worked well. Btw, some of the food came out room temperature to warm. Considering the prices we are paying, everything should come out pipping hot. Let's move onto the decor. The modern main dining room with the purple cloud shaped lights doesn't really do it for me. It's also extremely loud with thumping hip hop music blaring. Maybe sitting outside and enjoying the summer weather while people watching might be better. Lastly, though our server was relatively friendly, he made many mistakes that are not indicative of a top notch restaurant in NYC. I am usually pretty easygoing, but I hate it when servers, without asking a single question, take away our plates when it's not 100% empty. At these high prices, I was planning to lick off every last bit of sauce. Instead, we had our plates taken three times with food on it without even considering if we were done. I guess he was trying to rush us through our meal in order to serve the next group. Oh yeah, I became positive of that fact when he put a chair to the side of our booth to setup for the next seating of five ... ... while we were finishing our desserts. Wtf? Inexcusable! Honestly, I really wanted to love this restaurant even knowing how much it was gonna cost. I know of the accolades. I have seen the tv shows. I've heard many rave reviews. Yet, I felt somewhat disappointed. Would I come back? Debatable.

I appreciated that they had sports on large screens. We came here with no reservation but had no issue being seated. Our servers were quick and attentive. I ordered the Jollof rice with beef and my friend got the red stew. Unfortunately we both had mixed feelings about our meal. For starters, my Jollof rice was great however I thought the beef would be mixed in. It was spicy with it getting spicier with each bite. Regardless it was very expensive for the little bit of rice you get. You have to order one of additional sides to make it worth it. Unfortunately that just drives the price up. The beef was good and tender but nothing special. There wasn't anything unique about it that stood out to me. Similarly my friend was also got the same beef dish and felt the same. Speaking of, she got the Red Stew and was underwhelmed. It felt more like a spicy sauce than a stew. You could eat it with a fork. She also wasn't much of a fan of the rice but admitted she had a personal preference for sticky rice. The beef was also outside of the "stew". In the end, we both enjoyed our meals and had leftovers to take home. The food for all of my complaints was good. Even she thought so but just wasn't special. Made me instead want to bring her to a different African restaurant in the future. I would this place is great as a lounge with solid food. Given that it specializes in West African food is a good bonus. Makes it very unique and worth checking out. Though I suspect that they're better options in the city for that. Would we go again, probably not.
