This is a late review, but worth sharing! The restaurant has quaint interiors, good service, and tasty food. We visited for a weekend lunch in the summer, and while the food took quite a while to arrive after ordering, the overall experience was enjoyable. I had the vegetarian plate, while my husband tried the garlic chicken. The flavors were good, though I would have preferred a bit more sauce in my platter. Overall, a decent spot and worth a try if you're in the area!

I've been coming to Efes a couple times now and it's always consistent! I love the open space and homey decor. The service is always quick, nice, and attentive. We're always seated immediately but maybe because I go on random week days. I love their chicken adana and my gf likes their lamb. The waiter was nice enough to tell us they have a platter with both! I will say their entrees are a good portion and we don't finish it all so sharing was perfect. It has lots of flavor! I'm picky with onion but I like theirs. We also tried their combination platter where you can choose 4 dips. We chose Hummus, Babaganush, Cacik, and Ezme. We both agreed the cacik was great and I always love babaganush. The ezme was spicy to me! I have a nut allergy and oddly they told me there's no nuts but online it says walnuts are in it so def ask if you have an allergy and want to try. Their pita bread is soft and like the usual. The fries were also a highlight! I love crinkle cut. Great staff and great food!

If you're in the Downtown Jersey City area, Efes is a must for you to try! I actually stumbled in exploring the area and don't regret it one bit. The vibe is casual date night, and it's perfect local neighborhood spot to support. For starters, we got the hummus. You could tell this was home made and so fresh. It came with warm, fresh bread, but we got a side of pita too. I recommend doing the same as the hummus serving was plentiful! For the main dish, we got the half chicken and half lamb. I think this is a wonderful dish if you want to sample both kinds of meat. However, my fiance did the adana lamb kebob and trying a piece, I will say I prefered the spices on that a lot more! For desert, I got the baklava. This baklava is hands down one of the BEST ones I've ever had. If you come here, do not skip on this desert. Throughout the night, the servers were attentive and kind. Make sure you show this business some love!

Love their food! Got the chicken kebab yogurt this time, very very good! We also ordered the cheese rolls which were great. Complimentary bread for the table too

First time and I only came here for the kazandibi and it did not disappoint. This is the best dessert in the world. Definitely get the kazandibi. It's $9 well spent! On a Sunday at 7pm, this place had almost every table full. The waiter was super nice and I was in and out quickly. I will definitely be going back again for a meal.

Very friendly service! I ordered to go and while I was waiting, the waiter talked to me about all the great places to visit in Turkey, like Izmir and Sirince instead of the usual tourist traps. Food was good, My husband loves lamb and l like chicken but the combination platter didn't have much chicken. We also got cheese rolls which were delicious! Cold appetizer combo was also good.

I've walked pass here so many times, so glad I finally tried them out. I got take-out, and service was great. I must say the best grape leaves I've had, really!!! I also order their hummus w/falafel. The serving was a nice size for an appetizer and was delicious. Everything was fresh, I'm really impressed. I will be back.

After 3 check-ins, Efes has been the most decent Mediterranean grill that we have tried in Jersey City. Definitely the priciest takeout Mediterranean grill that we have tried in Jersey City. We always get the lamb kebab with rice and some salad garnishing. The lamb is tender and cooked well. We are able to warm it up and it will remain tender. The lamb could use more taste especially since the rice is bland also for people who do not like to pour that cucumber sauce all over. The baba ganoush is tasty and fresh. The hummus is pretty basic and could use some more flavoring. The few times I ordered the falafel it was fine just dry at times. Nothing compares to a New York east village falafel. The baklava is nice and sweet, sticky and yummy!! I will return until I find a solid place that is NOT a Jersey City food truck.

Pan Seared Tilapia...in oil. At least a half cup of oil. I can't believe someone thought this was ok to serve.

This is hands down the best Mediterranean in the JC/Hoboken area. Literally have never had a bad meal here. Reasonable too!

And as a bonus, it has not yet been "discovered" by the Yelp Elite / food influencer crowd (besides yours truly). The Alexandrian Style Shrimp was huge and delicious, but the Grilled Branzino (and really, any whole grilled fish) is the big, belting diva of the menu and one you should not miss. Whole, ground spices are packed into every bite care of lovely marinade, and your teeth will rejoice at how tender the meat is. Entrees all come with generous, complimentary portions of salad, tahini and pita, as well as lots of fluffy rice, so you can't walk away hungry. The prices are on the higher side, sadly--it seems nowhere is immune to inflation these days--but at least you'll get a ton of bang for your buck.

A Little Unassuming Gem for Alexandrian Food in JC…read more I found this place on a Eater Jersey City list and wasn't expecting much but the food was surprisingly delicious. The space is small, about 8 tables, with dated, seventies decor, complete with plastic on the tables. Only one woman in the kitchen. We had the grilled Orata, which came with rice, salad, babaganoush and tahini sauce, side of eggplants with peppers in tomato sauce and the Alexandria style shrimp. Everything was fresh, the fish grilled to perfection and the shrimp well-seasoned. There is also a sandwich menu, but it was not available that day. This place as all of the elements I love in small businesses; no pretention, no gimmicks and no "fusion"...just authentic, simple, home made food, from kitchen straight to my stomach with no orchestra and fireworks. My only gripe is that the prices are high but given that food costs have risen so quickly in the last few years, I completely understand.

I ordered the lamb platter. I believe it's called with baba ghanoush hummus and half rice half salad. I wasn't a huge fan of the rice. The dips were really great, especially with the pita chips. The salad was a little too plain for me but overall it was a yummy meal. I think I would go with chicken next time maybe the chicken sandwich or the vegetarian plate since I did really enjoy the dips and the falafel the most. The pistachios baklava was pretty good too. Ambience is laid back.

I used to work in the West Village so Mamoun's original location saw me visit at least once a week…read morefor their delicious shwarma and falafel. It has been quite some time since I've had Mamoun's so while I was wandering around Hoboken I was delighted to come across a location on Washington! Yes, I know it's been here for quite some time, but I'm kind of new to hanging out in Hoboken so this was a wonderful surprise for me. The original Mamoun's is a hole in the wall that can barely fit 4-5 people inside standing. In heavy contrast, this location is on a corner with plenty of room. The interior leans heavily towards wood and dark colors, giving it a slightly classic and industrial look at the same time. The wall along the right is lined with old photos of the West Village (including the legendary Cafe Wha-?). It is a wonderful reminder of where this chain originated and brought back memories of my younger days working in the Village. In heavy contrast to the original Mamoun's, you go up to an ordering kiosk and you pay with your card. The menu is well designed and I was delighted to see that you could mix drinks if you'd like and you can order different sizes of sauces (at an added cost of course). I wanted the basics so I ordered a shwarma, falafel and unsweetened iced tea. The food was prepared very quickly. At the pickup area there are napkins and cutlery. They apparently package everything as if it was to go, so no trays or anything here. They handed me my order and I sat down to eat. I carefully unwrapped the shwarma and man...it was like going back in time. There was a pita stuffed completely with a salad and shwarma meat (I went with lamb for that classic flavor). One difference from the original location is the lack of a hot pepper put on top of the shwarma. That used to be a nice touch they did back in the day, but to be honest, I have no idea if the Village location does this anymore. Folks, the shwarma was absolutely *delicious* and beautifully cooked. I recommend using the foil to keep the structural integrity of the sandwich together (though by the bottom it will just start falling apart). I also purchased a side order of falafel and they were perfect. Crispy on the outside, light chew on the inside and fresh! It's not hard to find falafel, but finding *good* falafel is tough so I was super happy with this side. Mamoun's is wonderful. It is a culinary blast from the past in a modern setting. I highly recommend it!
