This was our last stop when we were hanging out in Times Square on a Friday night. The long line, the security at the front door checking ID, I was confused - is this a restaurant or club? Apparently at night it's a combination of both. It was packed and the music was extremely loud. We had to wait for a table and everyone was really dressed up - I guess I didn't get the Memo. The food and drinks were really good and the staff were working hard to keep up with the overwhelming amount of people. I read that Lagos has great food and drinks and they did not disappoint. She also said it's instagrammable, which now that I'm here I agree. I gave this high rating based on the ambience, quality of the food, and the service. I originally wanted the catfish pepper soup, but they were out of it. The goat meat pepper soup had great flavor, but it was very spicy so spicy it felt like my tongue was about to fall off! This was my first time at this restaurant as I was just trying out something new for a special day of mine. I decided to invite a few friends, and I had spoke with management about the reservations, price, and everything else. Unfortunately, they made a mistake with the booking, which was no problem. I've been coming to this restaurant for a while now, and I will say they definitely know how to entertain. From the moment you walk in, the energy is high. They had a woman on stilts performing, a live DJ, and the entire vibe feels like dinner and a show. If you're looking for atmosphere and entertainment, they truly deliver. The drinks are always good--very flavorful--but they are also very expensive. You're definitely paying Times Square prices for cocktails. What I did notice during my most recent visit is a big change in the pricing and food setup. Before, when I ordered jollof rice, it came as one full dish with everything included for one price. Now, you pay a higher price just for the jollof rice alone, and if you want to add meat, you have to pay separately, based on a list of added charges from the menu. That change was disappointing. I also ordered sweet plantains, and by the time I paid for my full plate of food plus one soda, my bill was over $60, which I personally feel is very expensive for what you get. Overall, I still enjoy coming here for the experience, music, and entertainment, but the food pricing has definitely gone up, and the portions don't feel as worth it as before. Last visited July 20, 2023. Hanging out in New York City on business and I've already been to Lagos several times. It's time to give them the official review that they deserve, so here it is! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is LITERALLY right near Times Square, one of the busiest places in the entire city, but shockingly, it's not usually packed in here, but it should be. You just gotta wait until the place turns into a nightclub late in the evenings. Once inside it's BEAUTIFUL. The ceilings are high, the bar is long and stretches down the right side. The left side is all tables sitting in front of one long booth. The bathroom is at the very back and there's even an upstairs! Up there it's practically a repeat of the same thing, but again, the decor flows very nicely. Of course it was a bit loud in there due to the music, then people talking over the music, but that's the kind of energy this place wants you to have! Especially at brunch and stuff! Service: The only reason this place loses a star is because some servers have attitudes. It's happened more than once when we've come from brunch or sat at tables. When we're at the bar, we don't have these issues. I'm sorry that I've forgotten our bartenders' names, but I can see their faces. Oh well. Lol. Sit at the bar. Food: Every time I come here, I come for the wings... period. Well, the wings and the fish tacos on happy hour. They are just tremendously good. They also have many flavors of wings you can sample. They're big, juicy, crispy (the dry-rubs at least) and are just GOOD! Like, really good! Lol. I even get them during brunch when they have bottomless mimosas! However... Value: It's New York City so the stuff ain't cheap, bbbuuuttt... it's extremely reasonable. You can get all 6 flavors of wings they offer for $90.00... however, I'm just unsure of how many wings you actually get. Doing some math and making some assumptions while looking at the prices on the menu, I'm gonna guess that you would get 15 of each, bringing your total to 60 wings at $1.50/ea. At a 24-piece you're paying $48.00 so that's $2.00/ea. I hope my math/assumptions make sense. Lol. Anyway, bottomless mimosas will cost you $35.00 for 90 minutes and they are done RIGHT. Transparent with not a lot of juice. You leave feeling GREAT. I know I've had some other brunch entrees, but I just can't recall what they were, nor do I have pictures so even discuss them. They stood the test of time in the flavor and succulence category. 5/5 The Mac n Cheese was cheesy, but just OK on the flavor scale. I'd give it a 3/5 The Red Stew was the next thing I ordered. The Jollof rice was very good and seasoned just enough. Although the chicken was dry, the skin had a nice texture. I had a great night at Lagos for my birthday! We ordered a bunch of stuff to the table the most memorable the pepper soup, jerk wings, and the goat were favorites. I had the escovitch fish it didn't have much flavor I wouldn't get it again. I will say the food isn't as flavorful as if you went to a smaller authentic restaurant I feel like the flavor wasn't there like I'm used to but it's also timesquare so maybe they want to modernize the dishes due to clientele i dont know. The only issue is the food came out at different times for everyone we thought that was weird. And the drink orders kept getting missed. If we ordered 8 drinks only 6 would show up. What evened out the night is it was lit when the team came out to celebrate my bday and dance and all that lol. We brought in a cake and they let me cut and serve it. Also we went expecting to see performers and there were none upstairs as we left back down we saw there was a girl performing on the first floor. Came here one day for happy hour. It wasn't crowded. I was seated at the bar. The waiter was very attentive. I ordered a drink & fish tacos. Everything was good. I wouldn't mind coming back for dinner to see what the restaurant is like at night with the music and dancers.
