She was the only waitress taking care of multiple large groups so it makes sense, it just took away from the experience. We FINALLY ordered got our food, but I was disappointed in their food quality. I originally ordered a fried fish, but upon the first bite the fish tasted of poor quality. Super fishy smell and taste like it was old fish or wasn't cleaned properly. The pepper sauce that came with it tasted like a hot sauce which threw me off. I told the waitress and asked to switch my meal to the Suya and side of jollof. There was a misunderstanding with our tables order. Everyone ordered a side of jollof, but the waitress billed us for the entree. So double check your bill!!!! I made her aware, but she didn't seem phased. She asked why we didn't say anything, but if you've never been you wouldn't know how the portions should look. Especially since that "entree" plate of rice didn't come with anything. Everyone that ordered the side of jollof got the same plate, so I figured that was their portions. Stopped here while in New York for the weekend, aesthetically , it was pleasing to the eye . There was an upstairs and a downstairs . We sat upstairs. There was a woman nicely dressed in stilts dancing around the restaurant of which was a nice added touch. It took a lil while for our waiter to come, but it was also really crowded. I've been coming to this restaurant for a while now, and I will say they definitely know how to entertain. From the moment you walk in, the energy is high. They had a woman on stilts performing, a live DJ, and the entire vibe feels like dinner and a show. If you're looking for atmosphere and entertainment, they truly deliver. The drinks are always good--very flavorful--but they are also very expensive. You're definitely paying Times Square prices for cocktails. What I did notice during my most recent visit is a big change in the pricing and food setup. Before, when I ordered jollof rice, it came as one full dish with everything included for one price. Now, you pay a higher price just for the jollof rice alone, and if you want to add meat, you have to pay separately, based on a list of added charges from the menu. That change was disappointing. I also ordered sweet plantains, and by the time I paid for my full plate of food plus one soda, my bill was over $60, which I personally feel is very expensive for what you get. Overall, I still enjoy coming here for the experience, music, and entertainment, but the food pricing has definitely gone up, and the portions don't feel as worth it as before. Parking logistics are a nightmare It was pretty full for a week night and there is a dress code as it seems to be geared towards professionals. It's 2 levels with 2 different music vibes but aesthetically pleasing all around. Upstairs seemed more Afro beats and ampiano while downstairs leaned more towards hip hop. They do offer hookah, seating is only for dining and the bar was full so we ended up making a reservation and were seated with 20 min. The service could've been better - we were passed over a couple times by the bartender upstairs before he decided to acknowledge us. And our table server was not very attentive. The cocktails were ok - I got a One Night Stand - too sugary and not very potent for $20. The food was much better - it's Afro Caribbean cuisine with plenty of options in case you're not familiar. I opted for the Jollof Rice w/ chicken - super impressed! It tastes authentic with the right amount of spice and a large portion so I took it to go. Sooooooooooo, I went back and ordered Asun for an appetizer which is a tender/chewy meat with peppers, jollof rice with chicken (white meat only), and the Island Gyal Punch. The food was great with the exception of the Goat...had to return it as it was over cooked, dry and lacked any gravy. The other items was nothing less than perfect. Last visited July 20, 2023. Hanging out in New York City on business and I've already been to Lagos several times. It's time to give them the official review that they deserve, so here it is! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is LITERALLY right near Times Square, one of the busiest places in the entire city, but shockingly, it's not usually packed in here, but it should be. You just gotta wait until the place turns into a nightclub late in the evenings. Once inside it's BEAUTIFUL. The ceilings are high, the bar is long and stretches down the right side. The left side is all tables sitting in front of one long booth. The bathroom is at the very back and there's even an upstairs! Up there it's practically a repeat of the same thing, but again, the decor flows very nicely. Of course it was a bit loud in there due to the music, then people talking over the music, but that's the kind of energy this place wants you to have! Especially at brunch and stuff! Service: The only reason this place loses a star is because some servers have attitudes. It's happened more than once when we've come from brunch or sat at tables. When we're at the bar, we don't have these issues. I'm sorry that I've forgotten our bartenders' names, but I can see their faces. Oh well. Lol. Sit at the bar. Food: Every time I come here, I come for the wings... period. Well, the wings and the fish tacos on happy hour. They are just tremendously good. They also have many flavors of wings you can sample. They're big, juicy, crispy (the dry-rubs at least) and are just GOOD! Like, really good! Lol. I even get them during brunch when they have bottomless mimosas! However... Value: It's New York City so the stuff ain't cheap, bbbuuuttt... it's extremely reasonable. Doing some math and making some assumptions while looking at the prices on the menu, I'm gonna guess that you would get 15 of each, bringing your total to 60 wings at $1.50/ea. At a 24-piece you're paying $48.00 so that's $2.00/ea. I hope my math/assumptions make sense. Lol. Anyway, bottomless mimosas will cost you $35.00 for 90 minutes and they are done RIGHT. Transparent with not a lot of juice. You leave feeling GREAT. I know I've had some other brunch entrees, but I just can't recall what they were, nor do I have pictures so even discuss them. They had a special for $50 you could pick an entree and get bottomless mimosas. There was a slight up charge for jollof rice with goat or the steak and eggs. All of our food was delicious. I would have gladly swapped my heels for my Jordans, especially with how long we had to wait standing by the bar before we were seated upstairs. I didn't have much to eat here and didn't get a drink. We did make a reservation however because of the large size of this Restaurant, they do take walk-in. Private large back room as well for private parties. I had the escovitch fish it didn't have much flavor I wouldn't get it again.
