Let me start by stating that 99% I love this restaurant, but this visit was disappointing to my husband and I. I ordered a well done cheeseburger and I stressed no pink, very well done. I also asked if they could add bacon and she said yes. My husband ordered chicken wings. When my burger came I took the first bite. I can tell something was off. The burger had pink through and through . I called the waitress and she agreed that is wasn't what I asked for. I let her know I didn't want the burger anymore to switch it out to potato skins. While they were making that order, I noticed they didn't even add the bacon. My husband's wings were underwhelming, as he stated nothing to write home about. By the time the potato skins came out, I ate one and asked for a box. I just wanted to leave, by the time all this transpired I didn't want to eat anymore. The reason I gave them a few stars was that our waitress treated everything professionally. She is the face that we see. We don't see the people actually cooking. I know that she relayed the order as given. She was so apologetic and just took the brunt of the blame. I didn't and don't blame her. She received her tip, but not the extra I usually give. Lately I feel that the restaurants are trying to survive possibly with lack of employees (not sure this is the case for them). It was a Sunday, who knows. Come on Max & Erma's, I was one of your biggest fans! I gave you a three stars due to my long standing patronage of your restaurant and overall love for this place, I want you to succeed. We were so excited to be traveling through and area with a Max and Ermas! My husband and I loved this restaurant years ago while dating. The location near us closed and we couldn't wait to visit this location. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We pulled up to a run down disheveled building and almost left but went in anyway hoping the outside wasn't an indicator of things to come. As we entered, the dining room smelled of sewage and was just as run down as the outside. The food was mediocre at best. The pretzels sticks were very good. My husband's burger was good. I got the triple appetizer combo as a meal and it was meh. Two small chicken fingers that were not great, mozzarella skewers were ok and the pretzel sticks were the highlight of the meal. I gave this three stars because the food wasn't horrible and the service was good. Sadly we understand why this restaurant only has a few select locations left. It makes me sad as this was our favorite restaurant back in the day. I think it's safe to say this is our last trip to Max and Ermas. read more

The tortillas soup is literally irreplaceable, it's the reason we continue to go there. That they have added a tortilla burger cements it, this would be a regular dining spot if it was a little closer to us. Even then, we still make time to go. My son and I went to Max & Erma's about a month ago or so. The food was ok. Our waitress was fine. However, I go to pay and my bank card is declined. I have more than enough money in the bank kids!!! So their POS system sucks. It declined my payment and so I'm told I have to leave my driver's license, or my son could stay while I drive home to get money. My bill came to like $45.00. I had to drive miles home mind you. It's a good 10 miles away from home. It was the attitude I received by the "assistant manager" like it's my fault when it's their POS system!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been to multiple other restaurants and have never had a problem with my bank card getting declined. She's like how we are going to do this.... like cash or card type of thing. Well, you know how we are going to do this, NEVER COME BACK! No apology or I'm sorry for the inconvenience. NOTHING! I probably spent more in gas than on that mediocre dinner. Great service by Kimberly! Funny & fast!! Sat in the bar w/ lotsa TVs & people. Tuesdays kids eat free. But we had a $10 credit from the new App. Food was all good. Well, if you're looking for decent food, come here if you're looking for exceptional service not so much. Walked in 12:50 and stood around 10 minutes before someone finally got me just before I was to walk out. I was seated the server arrived and she was above average and the food was better than I anticipated since I haven't been here in forever, which shouldn't be since I live 2/10 of a mile away. I wonder what they do when there's a happy hour going on or it's dinner time because when I got here, there was nobody in the restaurant --there are many cars in the parking lot now which as you all know happens every time I go to a restaurant; may be empty when I get there, but they're not empty when I leave. In our days of orange hairs stupidness I suppose all in all it wasn't bad. I eventually sat down. I eventually ate, and I eventually paid my bill and went home. Wife and I stopped in for lunch, haven't been here in a while. I found the place warn and getting dated. But service was good, and the food was great! My mom and I came to dinner here recently, on a Sunday evening. I ordered a bowl of their famous chicken tortilla soup and my mom ordered a bowl of their French onion soup. We also both ordered a southwest salad. My food was delicious (you cannot go wrong with the tortilla soup), but my mom said the French onion soup was lacking onions. I hadn't been to a Max & Erma's in YEARS. Until kinda recently I hadn't even known they still existed. Solid meal, friendly service, and great food, for a chain. My son really enjoyed the kid's menu pizza. His dad had a pretty good burger and I had a salad which was solid as well. Reasonably priced too. I would definitely make a return trip here on the way home from the airport again; it's very convenient. read more

Take out lunch for a hotel stay down the street. Ordered online and order ready when quoted. Chicken salad sandwich with fries, quesadilla and cheesecake. Food was just okay. Place looked a little tired inside, kind of a TGI Friday theme with junk on the walls, and staff not very attentive to anyone, including my takeout. No music, just so so atmosphere. Hot Food! Great Service! It probably helped we came in just as they opened and we're the only ones in the restaurant for about a half hour. I had the Boss hamburger. It melted in my mouth. I have not dined at Max & Erma's for over 15 years. This past Saturday, I traveled to the Middleburg Heights location to see if they still served their signature tortilla soup. They do! Ordered two bowls and when barkeeper Mike, who is awesome, brought them to the table, I was transported right back to those workday lunches of years gone by. Perfect thickness, surprisingly spicy for a primary menu item, many quality real chicken pieces, doesn't leave you feeling like you ate a bowl of Velveeta. Tortilla strips on top added a nice crisp in every bite. Next trip I may buy a tshirt if they still use that handmade Max and Erma's logo. read more

All things COVID related taken into consideration, the dinner I ordered as a Grubhub pickup order was pretty good. The fire grilled salmon was very tasty and perfectly cooked albeit a bit small. But, that fire roasted corn side dish was terrific! Diced peppers mixed in with the kernels of corn were rich in smoke flavor and very tender. Definitely an item to choose here. Steamed broccoli is what is is. I just happen to like steamed broccoli with nothing on it so, for me, it was perfect. If there was a minus, it was the Caesar side salad. Lots of brown lettuce leaves, four croutons and a bread stick that definitely came out of a freezer. The bottom of it was harder than the sparsely placed croutons while also being a bit chewy. Were I dining in, I would certainly have sent it back. As it were, an order I drove miles away with before eating it, my only option was sending it to my trash can. Didn't kill my meal but it didn't help either. Would I eat there again? Yes! Seemed a fair price and it was ready right when expected. read more

That what I ordered and that's why I'm submitting this review. The bun was rotated slightly like I like them, the salad on the burger gave me enough vitamins to feel like it was okay to enjoy the burger and the melted cheese on that slightly crispy on the edge beef Patty was gooey like I like it. Our lunch server was super and even pointed out that my team was being talked about on the television (BAMA). The music was just low enough to hear but not too loud that I couldn't talk to comrades. The Max and Erma's that I first went to was located in Beachwood, I believe. It was several years ago, and the food was good, the establishment was clean. The one in Middleburg Heights is a lot like Danny's. The menu is basic, the food is edible if you're really hungry. The staff is friendly. The restaurant is dark, sticky and kinda gross. It can really use some paint and good cleaning. It's like they haven't changed a thing, but their menu, since they opened many years ago...and it desperately needs updating. As soon as we sat down, I felt like getting up and leaving...but I was with a group, so I reluctantly stayed. I do not recommend this place. Kitchen service is very slow. Food is not very good. You'll get a better meal and better abiance at Applebee's or Denny's. Max and Erma's reminds me of an old truckstop coffee shop that you'd come across on a lonely stretch of road in 1975...only the coffee shop would actually have decent food. read more

Max and Erma's is a solid option for good food in a fun atmosphere. The decor is fun, a kitschy mix of old time photos, memorabilia, stained glass...and chandeliers! Service has been great every time we've been there. The menu has your staples of burgers, pasta, and chicken; as well as fun new additions now and again. Tonight my husband and I tried two of their new dishes-I tried the bourbon bbq chicken, and he tried the new hamburger with egg and potatoes on it. We both really enjoyed these new menu items-the flavors and textures were well thought out and put together. We would definitely order these again! Our favorite appetizer are the potato skins. Delicious! They aren't just poured out of a bag and reheated, either. They're potatoes with real cheese and pieces of cooked bacon on them. It's a nice change from the potato skin junk you get at some other chain restaurants. While this place isn't 'fine dining', it's a reliable dinner location with good food, good service, and a friendly, casual atmosphere. read more

First time to eat at a Max & Ermas. We are from Wisconsin looking for a quick lunch. Max and Ermas was a good choice with a variety of mix and match burger choices. We had the best passionate waitress that we have ever had named Kim. We even saw her later at the store & she wished us luck in our triathlon tomorrow. Kim was very knowledgeable of the menu. Menu included calories which helped us make healthier choices. Our lunches included bottomless French fries with a turkey burger, chicken strips & hamburger. I have been a host, carry-out and server with Max & Erma's the past 9 years. I enjoyed my time working with this company as the management, staff, and customers were always a pleasure to be around. This past semester of Nursing school got very busy and i was unable to work my shifts, so my co-workers covered them for me. My shifts were always covered and i never left my co-workers short handed. They were very understanding of my new busy schedule. This past week i was on spring break and finally had extra time in my week to pick up. I suddenly and unexpectedly had to call off my shift last Thursday (an EXTRA HOUSE SHIFT i picked up) when my daughter came down with a 101 fever and needed to be picked up from school immediately. The General Manager, Nicole V, stated it was "always something" and told me i was taken off the schedule and wasn't allowed to pick up for my co-workers anymore. I knew exactly what she was doing. Nicole backed me into a corner and forced me to quit my job the other day. I have always been on-time and willing to work given shifts before school got crazy. As a good general manager would do, she should've came to me directly and spoken with me about her concerns. She never did. I didn't know it was an issue having my shifts covered instead of coming in myself. I refuse to work for a company who takes family matters lightly and makes remarks like "its always something." It's disrespectful and rude. I am disappointed in Nicole's very unprofessional way of handling the entire situation. I am thankful for this opportunity of working with this company for so long, but i didn't expect my time to end like this.
