Max Muscle downtown Long Beach on Pine Ave is by far the best Sports Nutrition store that I've been to anywhere in SoCal. There is plenty of parking at the rear of the store and if you're just making a quick pit stop, you can usually park on Pine Ave in front of the store, between the 2 lanes. in the center Island. No one will bother you. Just don't abuse of it please. This is my second time in this store. I really liked their product on my first visit. So, i decided to come back for more and thus give them a fair review of my full experience. Their services range from Sports Nutrition to tanning to cryotherapy. They have a smoothie bar, sports drinks, a wide variety of protein bars and even workout gloves, belts and much more... The store is always fully stocked with everything and anything you might need for your nutrition and or workout needs. Great product variety to suit everyone's preference. The interior with it's concrete polished floor, tall and robust metal racks gives it a distinct industrial feel conducive to something of a power house. Yet the fully stocked shelves and beautifully arranged marchandise makes the space feel warm and inviting. Hasuni, the owner has been in in business for about 30 years now. He was a body builder himself and is an overall fitness lover. He is an expert in his field and is super friendly. I Went in to purchase some pre-workout products as well as some protein and i ended up grabbing a few other things. The service was excellent. I ended up hanging out for a little while longer chit chatting with him and watching his interaction with his customers. He really treats everyone like family. He is also a big time English Premier league fan, as i am. :) The prices are very competitive and i feel that the products are very unique and very good quality. Much better than GNC or other over commercialized nutrition stores. Shout out to Hasuni for the great service and for making it easy to pick my products. I'll be back soon! Leaving another review for these smoothies - pretty great. I got a strawberry banana pure protein with plant based protein. So good!! It was so refreshing after a gym sesh. Love that this is right across from planet fitness. They have tons of different protein bars and snacks too, I can't wait to try them all. I recently started coming here because the planet fitness across the street has been out of Celsius. One of the workers recommended it to me. I've talked to who I assume is the owner. He is so very nice, helpful. He answered all my question and didn't make me feel dumb or unwelcome. I'm excited to come back with my boyfriend and get some smoothies and protein powders! Sitting outside as I type this & happily sipping my post-workout peanut butter protein shake. (option for vanilla or chocolate) I was greeted by the friendly Hasuni as it is my first time at this establishment (found on Yelp) and I'll be back again after my next workout to try a different shake. My gym (24 hour) is down the street so it's actually the perfect little walk. Might I add- I walked out with not one, not two, but EIGHT free supplement samples from the attentive Hasuni who answered all my annoying first timer questions about what they offer, etc. I did not opt in for any vitamins or tanning today, but they have that too! Quite possibly the greatest place on all of Pine! Russ is a family owned business that actually cares about YOU and what your body needs, not some corporation just trying to take your money. All the top of the line supplements in the industry for everyone, from your average Joe to competitive body builders, at amazing prices. I love this place! I went in for the first time today and was unsure of the kind of protein shake I should buy. Hasuni was super nice and made it easy for me to make a decision, all he did was ask what kind of flavor I usually like and made me a chocolate coffee flavored protein shake right after my workout. This place is the best! Every time I go in to get myself a quick protein shake or a 'recovery' shake, my man here always hooks it up. Great assortment of supplies with top tier protein, pre-workout, and other gym necessities. Bro always knows what to recommend and gives some great advice. I've had issues with the fresh cheese cut in-store, which unfortunately tasted off and had a strong ammonia-like flavor. I will be returning it tomorrow for a refund. This experience has put me off buying their fresh cheeses going forward. I'm also not particularly impressed with the pre-cooked deli selection. There are frequent things that make me hesitate to purchase, such as a recent fish dish that was heavily overdone with capers to the point it felt unbalanced. That said, I do still come in occasionally because they carry some hard-to-find items. I've found excellent coffee here, and I've enjoyed their crab cakes. Customer service has also been very mixed. I had a particularly unpleasant experience with a cashier who had a poor attitude when I was overcharged for an item that was marked differently on the shelf than what I was charged. I went back to show the original price tag, even retrieving the torn portion to demonstrate it matched. Despite this, I was treated as if I might be trying to manipulate the price over a difference of about two dollars. There was no apology, just a dismissive and rude demeanor. The correction was eventually made, but it was handled awkwardly, and I was handed multiple receipts while my original receipt for other purchases was not returned. I left feeling frustrated and disappointed, not because of the pricing issue itself, but because of how it was handled. Overall, I still stop in for a few specialty items, but my confidence in consistency and customer service has definitely been affected. The ambiance of the store is nice. The parking lot it can often be a nightmare.
