I went to the Mercado Grove location. I've never complained on Yelp- but I feel strongly about warning people of this place. I had to stop the technician mid manicure. I was having a pedicure and she tried to give me a manicure while I was balancing a bowl of water in my lap. She didn't let me use the massage chair and was very bossy that I should use dip instead of shellac. She was hurting me. My nails were pointing in different directions after she filed them. She used a dremmel to remove my shellac and my nails are now (6 hours later) throbbing and look like there are pools of blood under most of them. I literally asked her to stop in the middle of my manicure and she still charged me $30. A $5 discount for not painting them. I came home and had to cut them short to fix the crazy angles. This was a nightmare. An actual nightmare. Rude and dangerous. I hope I don't have nail-bed damage. read more

I've been to this nail salon a hand full of times (new to Oregon) and had good experiences with Nikki. I called to make an appointment with her. When I arrived she wasn't even working and they had me scheduled with someone else. I checked in at front desk computer. Not one nail tech looked my way, greeted me or said a word. Waited for 15 min past my appointment for a gentleman to point at me and say I'll do your nails. He wasn't even who they had me scheduled with. All I wanted was a simple mani/pedi and it was probably the worst manicure I've ever had. He rushed through everything. In the process he reached behind him to get a fan. I didn't know if it was for me or him because it was hot out. Then because I didn't realize he wanted me to dry my nails in front of the fan, he stated "hello wake up." Heaven forbid he talk to me and tell me what he wants me to do. But he sure can talk to make a rude statement. During my manicure the phone was ringing off the hook. Phone was sitting in front of the nail tech one table over and never once answered it. What horrible service!! I guess if you're busy, you just don't answer the phone anymore. After my mani he pointed to a pedicure chair and told me to go sit over there. Never filled the pedicure bowl with water so I could soak my feet until the woman who was going to do my feet was open. Just had me sit sideways with my feet sitting on edge of a dirty bowl for 15 min. The lady who did my feet was awesome. No idea what her name is. She is the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. The absolute worst nail salon experience I've ever had. I would never go out of my way to bash a business over something that could have been a mistake or misunderstanding etc. But let me tell you, what I experienced here was no mistake at all. I got my nails done here by an older man about a month ago. I didn't quite catch his name. He did holographic acrylics. Throughout the process he was very rude. He was very rough with my hands/fingers. Any time I would ask him a question he would not answer and he told me he's been doing nails his own way for 20 years so don't question him. I felt very disrespected. He couldn't get the holographic glitter to stay on so it looked very patchy. Didn't file them down. My nails were very wide, crooked, patchy and completely missing the color on the edges. It was the worst job I've ever seen. When I expressed to him how unhappy I was with them he said there was nothing he could do about it told me to stand away from my chair and had another lady take the seat. He didn't even offer a remedy for the situation. I've never been so humiliated like that in my life. I was standing there almost in years when a very nice lady came up to me and said she could fix them for me. She was able to file them down and redo the holographic glitter. They were perfect when she was done. You couldn't pay me to go back to that nail place ever again. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for Sunday at 1:00. When I arrived he said o didn't have an appt with the technician I selected. He went over and talked to her and then sat down. My daughter was helped by someone else. After half an hour my requested technician walked out the door. When I checked in with him he said "I told her she had an appointment but she left anyway". There was no effort to have someone else help me. I then asked just to pay for my daughters service which was somehow $70 for a fill and he charged me $130 and insisted on just giving me the difference back in cash. No apology for either thing, that is why I'm writing the review. They clearly are busy enough they don't care about the customer. read more

One word to describe my experience. Yuck. The girl who did my mani/pedi was so rude. These people that work at this salon have no sense of common courtesy or basic manners. They speak to each other in their foreign language as if you're not there. Practice common courtesy and be appreciative for people who are giving you business. There's a lot of competition out there. I made an appointment and arrived on time. The lady/owner asked me to sign my name. She assigned nail artists for three walk-in clients who arrived 1 mins earlier than me. So when it is my turn, she runs out of nail artists. She wanted me to wait. I waited there and thought she probably still have people for me soon. But no. She just let me wait there. I witnessed walk-in clients were arranged with nail artists and she completely mishandled my appointment when I am on time. The whole purpose of making appointment is to secure the appointment! Pedi in one of the locationsand the leg 'massage' was from the episode of friends where Ross massages the guy with salad tongs. And the application of polish could have been done by my husband better. Just had a natural mani $25 at the other location and 10 mins done. Lotion on one hand a little up the arm; other arm nothing. I drop in here from time to time after work and they are always so accommodating! It is my go to nail place because the work they do, especially with acrylics, is excellent!! ONE time I went to a different salon because they were closed and I so regretted it. The acrylics Max Nails does are very thin and well put on the nail. They always shape it the way I want and when I ask them to do something a certain way it gets done. The nail techs are all very skilled and friendly. They will chat if you want to chat, but I prefer to just sit quietly and get my nails done. If I want to try something I ask them ahead of time if they can do it and book an appointment. La Belle in Lake Oswego damaged my nail bed and a toe nail years ago due to their lack of hygiene (nail completely came off right after going there and didn't grow back the same) Had it confirmed by a properly licensed and certified technician unfortunately after the fact. : ( So I definitely avoid them. I am border line with Max. Have been in there a few times and my nails look great but I'm not sure about their hygiene protocols and always dislike the fact that it is clear they are ripping on customers. Have been to this salon a few times due to location and convenience. I will say that overall they have been wonderful in getting me in for walk-ins, polite and courteous. No strong nail chemical odor as there are in other salons. Everything looks very clean and organized. First experience, shellac chipped very quickly. But I also learned that it depends on which polish from which book to select- ever since picking polishes from book 1, my manicures have lasted longer. I've had a handful of techs and there have been some hits and misses. Yesterday I had Vicky, and while she was very friendly and sweet was far too aggressive with cuticle cutting. After making one finger bleed, she didn't really slow down and proceeded to cut and make a second finger bleed as well. What was most painful though was the blue dropper solution she poured on each open wound to stop the bleeding. It stung pretty badly. I would have really preferred just a simple tissue, pressure on the nail and easing up on cuticles altogether. One day later those nail beds are still tender and hurt. To be honest, I'm torn on whether I will return to the salon or not. My daughter just got engaged and wanted a nice manicure to show off her ring. She visited Max Nails and they treated her terribly. I watched as her nail technician rolled her eyes and literally only painted her nails! There was no filing, cuticle work, lotion or anything at all done! She didn't say a word to my daughter or offer her water or anything. We will NEVER go back. So disappointing! She did come in for a manicure and wasn't told that she was just getting a polish change. Love this place! Been there many times before COVID. I always made an appointment and did so today. I wore my mask and they had me use hand sanitizer when I entered. Have to pay before the service. There are private areas now- they've got new chairs, have plexiglass between yourself and the technician, and curtains between each chair. My technician wore gloves, but they always did. She also had on a mask and face shield. My only complaint was the lady behind the front desk, she rarely kept her mask on, especially when talking to customers. I observed one customer come in without a mask for a manicure, and she was not asked to leave nor was she asked to wear a mask. I have come to this nail salon several times before because I have experienced great customer service (really important) and the nail techs really do an awesome job with nails. When I've come here previously I'm always greeted a friendly "hello, how are you doing..." And an offer of beverage. Today's experience was disappointing. I was not greeted when I arrived for my appointment, other than a curt "you here for a pedicure?" The nail tech assigned to me was not friendly. Unfortunately, I did not get her name as she did not introduce herself and she did not ask for my name. She looked unhappy the whole time I was there and was a bit forceful throughout my nail treatment. The only time she "attempted" a smile was when she told me how much I owed for my treatment. I also tipped 20% despite the lack of customer service. It seemed once payment was collected, the "customer service" [insert derisive laughter here] ended there. The nail tech told me to stay in my chair [perhaps to allow my nails to dry], walked away and never came back to check on me. About 15 minutes after that, I decided to get up and leave. No help or assistance with my flip flops. As I walked toward the door, none of the staff bothered to say "Thank You" or even a "Bye... Have a nice day". As I mentioned...very disappointing. Today, I was disappointed and should've only given 1 star, but that would be unfair to the technicians who do a great job. My nails look nice, but the technician who did my nails charged me full price ($37) for my dip manicure yet she did not provide a full service. I felt rushed. I wish I had gotten her name because I will call from now on and make sure I get another technician. I would suggest to management to make a protocol for each service you provide to ensure your customers get consistent service. Today, I was not asked if I wanted something to drink, I did not put my nails into a bowl of water to soak, my cuticles were not trimmed or pushed back, I was not told to wash my hands before polishing and had powder residue all over, and I watched other customers sitting next to me have their hands massaged with lotion while my technician set the bottle of lotion in front of me for me to put on myself. I work in a service oriented profession and we have systems and protocols in place so that our customers receive consistent care. We have a standard of care that our customers appreciate. It all comes down to proper training and expecting employees to provide those services. I say this because you have some great technicians but you have some who either need to stop being lazy or leave. read more
