I can't tell you how many delicious meals I've had here. Many times meeting my Paki friends here but there's also quite a few times I couldn't wait and visited by myself. My go to combination is the goat karahi with a garlic naan. Second go to dish is their chicken karahi incredible flavors with good service. We have been here twice this week alone, we had different things to try more items and everything was very good, the naan are some of the best I've ever had! Once they were very busy and only had one waitress but she did a great job, kept her cool, and served everyone as quickly as possible. We will be back as the food can't be beat! read more

This was our first visit! The short of it: Food was okay, had lots of flavor, and the ambiance could use some work. 3.5 stars for this first trip. The full story: There was another group in the restaurant who seemed to be enjoying themselves and their meal. I loved the music playing in the background and it was at a volume that was festive but still low enough that my hubby and I could still converse comfortably. Loved that! The place itself was a bit shabby and haphazard. The floors are badly scuffed, the decorative mirrors were grimy and full of handprints, and you couldn't quite decipher if this was an order at the counter and go kind of place or a nice sit-down restaurant. Service was okay. One hostess clearly was willing to answer questions and provide support when asked, but didn't go out of her way to ask or offer herself. But no one was unpleasant or unkind. Food came out piping hot and smelled great! The curry dishes don't come with rice (didn't know), so we belatedly added an order of saffron rice to our goat karahi and chicken tikka masala. The goat curry had a really yummy, spicy sauce, but the goat meat came on the bone in small pieces that were a devil to get off. I'm not sure if we should have picked them up with our fingers and eaten them like spare ribs? It was awkward. The tikka masala was not our favorite. It was a little too sweet and had the opposite issue with the protein--the chicken was so overcooked that it turned to mush in my mouth. The saffron rice was mushy, as were the chickpeas that were in it. The vegetable samosas had really tasty filling and were broiling hot. The texture of the dough was a bit mealy, like cornflour paste, but was really flavorful. The star of the meal were the two orders of naan. They have NO a/c. If you go when it's hot, you'll be uncomfortable. They do not have levels of spiciest so it's a guess on whether you can tolerate your food or not. The service was ok but all employees looked like they were suffering. Super excited to try this spot after first hearing about it. Sadly and unfortunately, I had to give this place a 2/5 star. The flavor of the food was pretty good, but there were plenty of misses too. The Lamb Kabab Karahi and the Special Lahorian Chicken Karahi tasted like the same sauce. The chicken in the Special Lahorian Chicken Karahi was half bone. The garlic nann and mango lassi were good. Altogether, I probably wouldn't want to dine in again because the service was very underwhelming - so much so that I was inspired to write this review. Don't get me wrong. The other night we happened to be in woodland at dinner time so we checked Yelp to see what awesome restaurant we might be able to visit for a memorable culinary experience. We all agreed on Max Taste after reading the reviews. The 4 star rating is based on the quality and taste of the food. The service was not the best and the speed at which the food came out was kind of extended. When the young man taking our order arrived at the table the first thing I asked for was two vegetable samosas. Then I asked for some guidance on the menu. At that point a more mature, friendly gentleman came to the table to help describe some of the dishes. We decided to try a traditional Indian appetizer called Pani Puri, which turned out to be pretty good; (this came out about 10 minutes after we ordered). We ended up ordering chicken malai boti (pretty good), chicken tikka masala (excellent!), Lahori chicken Karahi (good), a seekh kabab (okay), rice, butter naan (good), and garlic naan (awesome). They don't serve ice water, so you have to buy bottled water. The food takes quite some time to come.... And some of it never makes it! I asked the boy who started taking our order about the samosas, and he said we didn't order them. At this point entrees had started coming so I said don't worry about it and decided to skip it. Overall the food was good, with a couple of excellent items. The staff was hit and miss. Not very attentive, but they will accommodate if you ask for specific items like napkins or flatware. Second time at this spot and the service was disappointing. Service is minimal; you can expect staff to bring out your food and plates with utensils, but don't expect water to be offered and food concerns to be addressed. We ordered the Lamb Kabab Karahi, Special Lahorian Chicken Karahi, garlic naan, butter naan, mango lassi, and rice. The first two items had a very similar curry flavor, but I personally thought the lamb was better. The chicken had little meat because all the pieces were majority bones. Hands down, the garlic naan was better than the butter one. The mango lassi was fragrant, but it was on the warmer side. Their fridge wasn't cold and that's a concern for dairy drinks like mango lassi. Lastly, the rice may or may not be consistently soft; we had hard rice clumps that were tough to chew and the staff rudely ignored me when I brought it up. read more

TLDR: Went in on a whim, so glad I did. Get the beef seekh kebab! Very cheap and so delicious! I had extra time during my shifts today and happened to turn in on this parking lot. On a whim I went in to try the food and this will be my choice for Indian food whenever I'm in woodland. To be honest the name threw me off a bit haha I was going to get just the kebab shawarma and the seekh kebab, as a safe choice plus I was feeling fries. BUT as I was walking up to order I walked by a table, saw some men eating a dish (not sure what) and decided on the spot to change it up a little. I got the chicken tiki masala, beef seekh kebab, samosas, and the garlic naan. Everything was amazing! I will be going back to try every dish on the menu, even the lamb ones which I tend to be very picky on (I like very few lamb dishes). The chicken was cooked perfectly, the samosas seemed homemade to me based off the dough and came with tamarind and yogurt sauces which were very good (especially the tamarind chutney). But the best part was the beef seekh kebab. Seriously, the best I've ever had, a perfect blend of spices! And after all of that, no surprise the naan was great as well. The cashier was super friendly and helped me move all my stuff inside when I was sitting outside and flies started showing up (they knew what's up). I was really pumped because of the reviews on Google and here but I feel so let down. - Picked up chicken handi for my partner and asked for it to be spicy but it was made extremely salty. - The lahori chholey was also flavorless, tasted like boiled chholey. - The sides, matar pulao and garlic naan were good but the sides cannot be consumed by themselves. It was one of those nights, out with the boys. Looking for some to eat, this time in woodland. Although popular for their Hispanic culture we were feeling adventurous and sought out to explore a different type of cuisine. MAX TASTE stood out to us with their bold name. So we promptly made our way there. Upon arriving the vibes were immaculate, with the best love Hindi song playlist playing in the background. Plenty of options, a little bit expensive but what really threw me off was. the MAX WAIT TIME. We did wait quite a bit for the food to be done. Food was great tho and I recommend. This is the first time I've tried Pakistani/Indian food. It was delicious! The spices, sauces, and the naan are very good. Samoasa was filling and full. Shawarma was also tasty. I have a new halal restaurant to look forward to near home. We came on a Sunday at 11:30 and it was empty. Indian music was playing. The cooks in the back were ready to start cooking! We ordered lamb chops, aloo palak, chicken curry, vegetable biryani, naan, and best of all, Faloodha! Everything was yummy and hot. Food was a bit spicy, so stick to their shawarma wraps or ask what dishes are mild (white people mild, not brown people mild). The naan was soft and perfect. Lamb chops were meaty. Big portions too. The food here is really good and authentic. Southeast Asians were eating here so I knew it was going to be good. This was totally unexpected though, but very happy we now have a go to spot near Davis for Indian food and a good one! The garlic naan was so good. Came out hot and fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, full of garlic flavor. Get this. The chicken Tikka was good, chicken was bone in and tender. Get medium spice (the usual spice for Indian cuisine you're used to). The palak paneer was okay for me. It was a cheese dish but wasn't really my thing. I've had these dishes before and they all taste okay to me, but that's a personal preference. Not to say, it wasn't good. The chicken biryani was very interesting. They add some kind of rose water essence to it which gives it this floral scent and taste to it. I liked it, but some may not due to this reason. The lamb kebab karahi was really delish. The lamb was really tender. Overall, great flavors and texture. Everything wasn't creamy like some places which we like. Definitely try this place. read more

Giving it 2 stars because they at least attempted to remedy the situation. I ordered through their website and was told there would be a 39 minute wait. After driving over after the time had passed, I walk in and the employee at the counter was confused when I said I was there for a pick up order. He apologized and informed me that it would take about 15 minutes to cook the food. For that effort, I wasn't even mad. Now for the food. It was entirely too greasy. The butter chicken had a pool of grease sitting on the top and we had to scoop what we could with a spoon or else we'd be sick. The goat karahi was mostly bone, was very tough and had a large amount of grease at the top as well. I'm not originally from Woodland, but it seems as though the restaurants in this area are rated higher than they honestly should be. I'll be going to Davis/Sac when I want to eat out lol. read more

I ordered the chicken boti shawarma meal (which came with fries and a drink) and the butter chicken entree with rice and a mango lassi drink. The chicken shawarma was so flavorful and had a kick to it. The butter chicken and rice were generous portions! We really enjoyed this place and getting to support a local ethnic business. If I could give zero stars I would. After hearing much buzz about this place a group of friends and I decided to check it out and upon arriving we were seated and our orders were taken like normal. I tend to be very understanding about slow service but this was borderline hilarious. We waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive, when it did we only received half of our tables meals meanwhile our own plates were cold. We then proceeded to wait another 20 minutes for the rest of the food. Not to mention that any sort of side dish came well after our main course (naan, rice). The kicker was that after waiting for an hour, the table had yet to get their mango lassis and when we asked our server she continued to tell us "just a few more minutes". Throughout this whole experience not once was our table apologized to for the long wait and our waitress genuinely did not seem to care. She would respond in a snarky tone when any questions regarding our food were make or the wait time. so today we come in and the person at the front has an attitude from the minute we get their like she doesn't want to be their. to top it off we ordered the previous week they told us on the phone 45 minutes once we arrived i waited an additional 30 minutes and the same server gave me sass and attitude. they are located in the balley and it is scortching outside they don't even have ac running like come on its 105 degrees outside. the food is always pretty good but it took 1 hour and 28 minutes exactly from the time we placed our order to the time we received our food. i would understand if it was busy however their was only 2 other small groups of people. this is a majority pakistani restaurant i had some guest in town who are african american and white american which wanted to eat pakistani food last minute so i took them out to eat they said they have never received these type of dirty looks from a restaurant staff. now back to the waiter it was a younger pakistani women was working and running the counter which had a super attitude. like how can you be a waiter or server and have that type of attitude especially with a paying customer who tips if i was the owner of this establishment or management i would immediately fire this employee that wasnt even the first time she has given me horrible service. only reason i keep coming back is its the only halal resturant in woodland that taste good. i really dont like giving halal or even further more small restaurants a bad review but her actions today show how little the owner who is a very nice person actually cares about hospitality in his restaurant. i can say comfortably i will not come back. unless i hear the service is better at which time i will remove this review. read more
