    Sesame naan and garlic naan
    Stacey F.

This was our first visit! The short of it: Food was okay, had lots of flavor, and the ambiance could use some work. 3.5 stars for this first trip. The full story: There was another group in the restaurant who seemed to be enjoying themselves and their meal. I loved the music playing in the background and it was at a volume that was festive but still low enough that my hubby and I could still converse comfortably. Loved that! The place itself was a bit shabby and haphazard. The floors are badly scuffed, the decorative mirrors were grimy and full of handprints, and you couldn't quite decipher if this was an order at the counter and go kind of place or a nice sit-down restaurant. Service was okay. One hostess clearly was willing to answer questions and provide support when asked, but didn't go out of her way to ask or offer herself. But no one was unpleasant or unkind. Food came out piping hot and smelled great! The curry dishes don't come with rice (didn't know), so we belatedly added an order of saffron rice to our goat karahi and chicken tikka masala. The goat curry had a really yummy, spicy sauce, but the goat meat came on the bone in small pieces that were a devil to get off. I'm not sure if we should have picked them up with our fingers and eaten them like spare ribs? It was awkward. The tikka masala was not our favorite. It was a little too sweet and had the opposite issue with the protein--the chicken was so overcooked that it turned to mush in my mouth. The saffron rice was mushy, as were the chickpeas that were in it. The vegetable samosas had really tasty filling and were broiling hot. The texture of the dough was a bit mealy, like cornflour paste, but was really flavorful. The star of the meal were the two orders of naan. We got garlic and sesame and they were to die for.

Super excited to try this spot after first hearing about it. Sadly and unfortunately, I had to give this place a 2/5 star. The flavor of the food was pretty good, but there were plenty of misses too. The Lamb Kabab Karahi and the Special Lahorian Chicken Karahi tasted like the same sauce. The chicken in the Special Lahorian Chicken Karahi was half bone. The garlic nann and mango lassi were good. Altogether, I probably wouldn't want to dine in again because the service was very underwhelming - so much so that I was inspired to write this review. Don't get me wrong. The food is still good, but I'll likely order to-go, and I'd avoid getting the chicken unless you're looking to boil some chicken broth.

Excellent service and delicious foods. Found a good place for Indian cuisine in woodland

Yummy & spicy food,, the food came out very hot. The naan was good & tasted great with the Chicken Tikka Masala and Goat Karahi. There was a non spicy & spicy option. We chose spicy and we could feel it in our stomach bc it definitely has a kick. It was a little too spicy that I couldn't taste the flavor much but it was still good as is. The Goat was definitely spicier than the Tikka Masala The service was friendly in suggesting for newcomers & the setting was clean.

The other night we happened to be in woodland at dinner time so we checked Yelp to see what awesome restaurant we might be able to visit for a memorable culinary experience. We all agreed on Max Taste after reading the reviews. The 4 star rating is based on the quality and taste of the food. The service was not the best and the speed at which the food came out was kind of extended. When the young man taking our order arrived at the table the first thing I asked for was two vegetable samosas. Then I asked for some guidance on the menu. At that point a more mature, friendly gentleman came to the table to help describe some of the dishes. We decided to try a traditional Indian appetizer called Pani Puri, which turned out to be pretty good; (this came out about 10 minutes after we ordered). We ended up ordering chicken malai boti (pretty good), chicken tikka masala (excellent!), Lahori chicken Karahi (good), a seekh kabab (okay), rice, butter naan (good), and garlic naan (awesome). They don't serve ice water, so you have to buy bottled water. The food takes quite some time to come.... And some of it never makes it! I asked the boy who started taking our order about the samosas, and he said we didn't order them. At this point entrees had started coming so I said don't worry about it and decided to skip it. Overall the food was good, with a couple of excellent items. The staff was hit and miss. Not very attentive, but they will accommodate if you ask for specific items like napkins or flatware. I will probably be back because those excellent items really were excellent!

They have very good food very clean The Workr is good all they talking good I really like spicy food. That's my favorite restaurant.

It was one of those nights, out with the boys. Looking for some to eat, this time in woodland. Although popular for their Hispanic culture we were feeling adventurous and sought out to explore a different type of cuisine. MAX TASTE stood out to us with their bold name. So we promptly made our way there. Upon arriving the vibes were immaculate, with the best love Hindi song playlist playing in the background. Plenty of options, a little bit expensive but what really threw me off was. the MAX WAIT TIME. We did wait quite a bit for the food to be done. Food was great tho and I recommend. Take it from this football state champ himself (pic attached).

All of our dishes were super fresh, full of flavor, and had a very good portion of meat. The entrees come by themselves but they are big enough to split with a second person. You definitely need to get a side or two of rice and an order of garlic naan (or two or three iykyk). The naan was my favorite item of the meal, so soft, pillowy, and chewy. Absolutely delicious. Can't wait to return after a shopping day at the outlets.

We were seated immediately, which I always appreciate. The space is pretty big with a modern feel, and there's plenty of parking out front (no circling the lot like a hawk -- love that). Even though they gave us the lunch menu, we went à la carte. Ordered: tandoori chicken, butter chicken, coconut shrimp, butter naan, and rice -- all medium spice where applicable. The tandoori chicken was tender and well seasoned -- no dry chicken nonsense here. The butter chicken was exactly what you want it to be: rich, creamy, tomato-forward, and comforting. But the one that caught me off guard a bit was the coconut shrimp -- creamy, slightly sweet, and a little more mild than "medium" heat, probably because of the coconut milk, but still really good. And listen... the butter naan? Fresh, warm, and absolutely necessary. Both the butter chicken and coconut shrimp were made for dipping. No shame in wiping those plates clean. Service was great. Staff was kind, checked in on us without hovering, and kept our water filled without us needing to flag anyone down. Overall -- easy, enjoyable lunch. Good food, good service, no complaints. I'd definitely come back.

I usually end up spending around 24 dollars when I add extra rice and garlic naan to the butter chicken, but honestly, it is so worth it. The portions are really generous. I have not tried any other Indian food spots in Davis, and to be honest, I do not really feel the need to because this place is just that good. I have dined in with colleagues, family, friends, etc., and have ordered a lot of to go orders. We ordered to go several days ago, and it will be the last time that we dine in or order food to go. I called in the order, and the woman that I spoke to on the phone was incredibly rude. The plan was to try one of the thali's, and I wanted to ask a question. Her comment was "make up your mind". I'll call you back. Had we not wanted Indian food from a tried and true favorite place, it would've ended with that. She called back as we were getting ready to walk out of the door to go somewhere else and timing worked out in their favor. Normally, we order the samosas chat, and this time we opted for just the samosas. Samosas were thrown into a bag. Yes she read that correctly. Food was put in a bag. They weren't wrapped they were just thrown into the bag. Disgusting. The tandoori chicken was ordered with the request that the onions and peppers be grilled. What we received was a very small serving of chicken, that was overcooked, inedible, along with close to raw onions and peppers. The thali- what a waste of money! The serving size for both proteins was barely 8 tablespoon of protein, and it was mostly all sauce. The naan was the worst. I think I've ever had. Over baked, bland, which for garlic naan should not even be a thing. It was just awful. The other parts of the thali were also inedible. each one tasted worse than the next one, and we ended up throwing the entire container away. Bad service. Bad food. i'm still bent about paying for food that should've been in a food safe container and instead was put into a paper bag like it was dog food. Indian sizzle you've lost a customer

When I entered, the restaurant appeared very clean, was colorful and bright! There were a number of items on the menu that appealed to me but I thought I'd try the combo rice plate, some Raita and a mango Lassi. I was told that it would take 10-15 minutes to be ready. That time was met and the food was hot and smelled delicious. A small salad was included with the entree. I used some of the Raita on the salad. It was spicier than I am used to and also "saucier" - meaning that it lacks pieces of cucumber and other vegs that I've had with other Raita but it was good. The Basmati rice was fluffy and delicious. The meat tiny cubes of chicken and Gyro meat (beef/lamb) The portion was large. Everything was very tasty. My only negatives - some of the meat was dry - I think because of the way it may have been heated before adding to the rice? And the sauce was a bit spicier than I prefer. I used to tolerate spicier foods when younger but not so much any more. I love being able to support locally owned restaurants. Also, the prices shown are CASH prices.
