We went for lunch on a brisk Sunday afternoon and decided to go for the buffet since it was such a good price at $17.99 and more worth it than ordering a la carte. There was a pretty good variety of curries (butter chicken, eggplant, lentil, kofta), vegetable and chicken biryani, tandoori chicken, naan, and desserts (gulab jamun [sweet syrup donuts] and kheer [sweet cardamom rice pudding]). My favorite was the butter chicken and naan. We also tried the mango lassi- it tasted like fresh mango and wasnt too heavy. The owners are a couple who are very nice. They got waters to us and a basket of naan right after being seated. They're also very attentive and would keep an eye on the buffet. Whenever one of the dishes was running low they'd disappear into the kitchen and come back with a fresh batch. I would come back again especially on a cold day. We enjoyed the food a lot! Can't find a deal like this elsewhere in the bay where we were visiting from.

I had ordered goat biriyani with thali for delivery. It was a lot of food! It was my food for the day and I was STUFFED. The goat biriyani was moist with tender chunks of meat, nicely flavored but nothing memorable. I got "spicy" out of mild, spicy, and very spicy, and it was about a 5/10 heat (I am East and SE Asian). The yogurt (raita) it came with complimented it well. The thali came with 2 pieces of naan, a lentil soup (sambar), curry of the day, and lentil sauce (daal), as well as a desert of milk and rice (kheer). The curry was rich and sweet with sugary pops from the peas and was my favorite. The rest was nice too. However, the naan was a little cakey/spongey instead of stretchy or fluffy. I went once in person, and the atmosphere is a little too quiet and dark to feel comfortable talking loudly.

We love this restaurant. Family owned and operated, warmest folks ever. The food is the absolute best I've had ever. Obviously we eat vegan/ plant based and the options are abundant. Back a few years ago the same amazing family had a midtown location. Walking distance from my home. So needless to say we would frequently visit. As we must commute to Davis to visit, we absolutely will if we want the best Vegan Indian food.

Charges for bags and to-go containers. Be eco friendly and bring your own

After a business trip to Raleigh, North Carolina, my husband raved about the tandoori chicken he had there. I suggested that we try the Indian restaurants here in Davis. For his birthday I took him to Preethi. He ordered the tandoori chicken. He thought it was very good but not on the level as that remembered dinner. We started our meal by sharing an order of samosas. Served with two dipping sauces, they were crispy on the outside but a bit mushy on the inside. They did have great flavor. For our entrees, we both ordered the thali version. My entree was gongora chicken. I had never had that dish before anywhere. I really liked the flavors. We both had leftovers, especially lots of pieces of naan. We've been bringing our own containers to restaurants for many years so packed up our own leftovers. I noticed a sign on the door that to reduce waste and be more sustainable, they charge 10 cents for each bag or togo container. I commend them for that. We made use of the Yelp check-in special of 50% off the second entree. I'm not sure if that was a reason, but when I pulled out my credit card to pay the bill I was told cash only. Luckily I did have enough cash to cover the bill and leave a tip. I did need to then go to an ATM to restock the cash in my wallet.

    Sauces,

First time eating here. Very good lunch buffet. I love Okka Masala and Dal Curry. Different rice option and Nan is excellent with curry lamb.

Top: Butter chicken w/ rice & bottom: Paneer w/ rice & garlic naan.

Yang Kee Dumpling is located in a small strip mall, equipped with plenty of parking, and EV chargers. When arrived it wasn't too busy, and the hostess showed me to my table. In front of my table was where the staff was making dumplings (they were behind glass). After looking at the menu, I opted to get some traditional soup dumplings, bbq pork fried rice, and pineapple bao buns for dessert. My server was Bing and she was nice and efficient. She came back to check on me a few times throughout my dining experience. My fried rice came out first. It was a LARGE serving of fried rice, it of course had eggs, carrots, peas, and BBQ pork. It was flavorful. Next came out the soup dumplings. They were brought out in a steamer basket with a top to keep them warm. These were amazing. The light and delicate dough, mixed with the savory pork filling, and the salty broth was perfection. Next came out my pineapple bao buns. To be honest, I wasn't sure how I was going to like them. To my surprise these may have been the star of the show. The dough was light and sweet, the top was carmelized and sweet, and the custard inside reminded me of a Dole Whip from disney (exept it wasn't cold, it was warm). These were pretty large and I'm semi embarrassed to admint I had 2 3/4 bao buns myself. Go here. It's delicious.

When she got there, we got in line and ended up waiting about 10 minutes to get to the register. We both ordered a burrito bowl (chicken and carnitas). Our food came out in about 10 minutes. The servings of salsa and guac on top were remarkable! We mixed up our bowls and dove in! It was a very hearty bowl and we were glad since it was not super cheap ($17.80). We sat at the table for almost 3 hours and the servers eventually came and grabbed our bowls and not once pressured us to leave. The place was so busy and buzzing with conversation. Service ordering at the counter was friendly & patient as I looked over the menu. I eventually zeroed in on the Zesty Flavored Salmon under the Specials/ Rice Bowls. It didn't take long. Handing me the packed to-go container, I immediately noticed its heft. There was a lot of food crammed in there. As soon as I was back in my room, I peeled open the lid to get at the goodies inside. My 1st observation was that there was lot of salmon. A bunch of fresh veggies too. For being on the menu as a rice bowl, there was exactly the right amount of rice underneath everything else. This definitely was not a case of too much rice being added as an empty calories filler. All in all, it was quite tasty. Indeed, even zesty. & enormously filling. Just a massive bowl of delicious salmon/ veg/ rice w/ a sauce that tied it all together. In this economy, Good Friends Hawaiian Poke is a great value. I don't get why that's just not factored in the price like the other poke bowl spots. Either way, if you wanted to add more toppings for texture and taste you had to pay another $1 for each topping.
