First time customer and last time. I went online for four tires and set up install appointment. Online prices neglected to state any promotional pricing applied and additional undisclosed fees. As stated by Austin (claimed to be the manager). I arrived for my appointment and was informed that the online prices were promotional pricing, therefore, no additional military discount may be applied. Understandable, however, I asked Austin to show me where that promotional offer was stated in writing. Austin stated it's not written anywhere in order to verify, and that's how online pricing is. In addition, he disclosed "shop fees" that were neglected to be disclose online quote "out the door price" As I tried to state my point, Austin began to behave in a passive aggressive manner at which he deferred to not only cutting me of at every sentence but also speaking to me in a demeaning manner stating "that's the way online prices are big guy", and "I'll make sure to add your complaint to the long list of complaints". He appeared to have taken the matter personal from my observation. I stated there was no need to be referring to calling me "big guy" even after he knew my name. Ultimately, Austin's behavior was not necessary, yet it seems he may be experiencing frustrations from dealing with this online pricing issue. He eluded that this online pricing matter was a bigger headache than I understood e.g. "shop fees". If online pricing is a bigger issue, then at best the company should consider looking into properly disclosing all fees and charges, to include all promotional offers e.g. discounted prices on tires. This may alleviate continuous points of contention with pricing as Austin eluded to. Or at least consider restructuring the front staff as to ensure staff aren't being burnt out. Sadly, as a one time customer this was a disappointing business transaction and would not be returning back and will not be recommending Apex tire & auto to friends and family. I have used Famous a few times and like their professionalism and speed. Another aspect that sets them apart is the ability to source your own parts. Many other surrounding mechanics will not allow that; they mark up the parts. I've saved quite a bit sourcing my own bits. Have been doing business at this location for many years. I have taken many vehicles and never a problem. Apex bought out this location and i just went in to have a repair done. Long story short. The Manager Austin is aggressive and a bully. .. I have three businesses and understand service- have been in business in this area for over 30 years. I understand employees and customer service. never have i felt the way i did today and would not recommend any one going to this location. In my experience, If he would fly off the handle and act that way towards a grown man, I cant imagine how he would treat a weaker person and or be dishonest when it came to his dealings. read more

The superior service and care of this team is unmatched. They go well above what is expected. They made not one, but three 2 mile trips to where my car was stranded. At first they probably expected to sell us a replacement tire. But when they realized our tire just needed a patch, they took care of that made the third and final trip to install our repaired tire and wouldn't even accept a tip. My wife was stranded at the speedway gas station (on Roberts Road) with a flat tire. When I came to the rescue, we discovered that we had no tools. When we bought our Jeep Renegade, the dealer did not tell us that these vehicles do not come with a spare, a jack, or a lug wrench. The tools in my Hyundai did not work on her vehicle. Wrong lug nut size, and the my tire jack did not go high enough. Oh... least I forget, the Jeep Roadside assistance required that they take our car 15 miles away to their own location, where they would surely sell us a replacement tire at an inflated rate (pun intended). We drove over to Famous and explained to theme our problem (lack of tools.) They lend me a lug wrench of a different size then the one I had and asked that I bring it back with the damaged tire. Back at the car I found out that my car Jack was to short for the jeep. We called them and they came over with a jack a removed my tire. At that point he noticed it did not need to be replaced but rather could be repaired. He then took the tire back to their shop (2 miles away) repaired it an brought it back. We stayed behind with the car that was still on their jack. When he returned adn reinstalled the tire. We offered to go back to Famous and pay. He said that wasn't necessary. I offered to pay in cash (on site) but he said that wasn't necessary. I then tried to give him a tip, which he refused to accept. Did I tell you it was Good Saturday. read more

When my maintenance light came on in my Toyota RAV4, I cringed. The dread of having to get an oil change makes a root canal seem like a better choice. I knew it would fall on me since I had taken a few vacation days to get some things done (this wasn't one of them I planned). My husband was working so I knew it was up to me to do this soon, since I was planning to tube the Ichetuknee the following day and wanted my car in tip-top shape. I decided to try Famous Automotive in Julington Creek. I gave them a call and they were able to book me the next day at noon. I probably should've been dropped off, but I decided to wait. About an hour later, my car was done and I was waiting for the usual Dreaded Oil Change Spiel... (goes like this) ~The mechanic comes out to show me my filthy air filter and asks me how I can possibly drive my children around in the car while they breathe this in? Oh, and you'll NEED every fluid we sell and we strongly recommend brake pads (and I have a bridge to sell ya, too) blah, blah, blah....and suddenly my $30 oil change is $400!! Not this time! I had my script ready to go, but to my pleasant surprise I did NOT have to use it. The guy at the service counter called my name, rang up my total and sent me on my way. I grabbed my keys and dashed for the door before they realized they didn't try and upsell me the store. Stopped by here "in a pickle" with my pool business as I have a Hammerhead Professional Vacuum ($2200 plus" with pneumatic wheels like bicycle tire that had gone flat after trying to get a gauge on at Dalys for free air and the nipples all but disappeared to refill...the Manager Sam Fakhouri greeted me as I pulled in and with one of his technicians, took the time to not only assist, but were able to professionally access the valves and fill to necessary pressure eliminating Time from this potential problematic day due to needed equipment on the job...true time and efficiency savings for me! I ended up running a screw over which in turn got stuck in my tire. I woke up to a flat tire so I put my spare on and drove here to see what they could do. I walked in and was greeted by a super friendly guy! He took a quick look at my tire and told me it could easily be patched. Within 30 minutes I was in and out with a fresh fixed tire! In the past, Famous Automotive and Tire center was known for its excellence; sadly, this was not my experience. The Julington Creek store seems to be having difficulty in getting competent mechanics. When my son's truck needed new tires, it took three repeat trips to get the truck to operate without rubbing or squeaking. Famous installed the wrong size shocks for the truck which caused the tires to rub. They tried to fix the mistake by installing a lift kit which resulted in the truck squeaking. They asked us to order a part to stop the squeaking. Finally, after they installed the part, the tire ordeal was over. Sadly, while the truck was squeaking, the gas gauge started acting up. We decided to take the truck to Famous because while the truck was there, the squeaking could be fixed too. Famous put in a new fuel pump and everything seemed fine. Within two months, the truck stopped on St rd 13 and wouldn't move, even the steering wheel wouldn't budge. We had the truck towed to a certified Toyota mechanic because we were apprehensive about using Famous again and thought the problem may have had something to do with the power steering. We learned that the truck ran out of gas because the fuel pump was installed in such a way that the gas gauge would never show the gas as getting below 3/8 full. The Toyota mechanic installed a new fuel pump and we ended up paying for two fuel pumps in two months plus towing. read more

We've had pretty good experiences at Famous Automotive until today. Here's the story. When my wife dropped off the car, we had a list of things to be worked on. She asked the manager to call me with a full estimate. When he and I spoke, I thought it was the verbal estimate he was giving me was for everything being done on the car. I even clarified it on the phone - or so I thought. I thought he was clear: $1365 for the rack and pinion work plus the other items. Upon check out, the bill is $1830. "$1830!?!?" I said, "I thought you said $1365." "No", he said, "that was just for the rack and pinion." "No, it was for everthing." "No, it was $1365 for the rack and pinion plus the alignment, oil change, transmission flush, and serpentine belt. All the other stuff was plus!" "That's not right, it was $1365 for the whole thing," I said. "Okay, let me see what I can do," he says. He took off $15 here, $40 there, and $25 more. That gets it down to $1739." Stupid me - I accepted the less-than-$100 reduction. Hey, I get it. Mistakes in communication happen even when you are trying hard. I know. I accepted it. Some of this is on me - but not at least half is on Famous Automotive. I should have asked him to go at least half-way. I still feel bad about the deal. But afterward, I though about this - there was another Famous Automotive Employee employee at the service desk, who didn't greet us when we came in and I don't think they ever did look me in the eye. When we first moved to St. John's about 10 years ago this was our go to auto shop. It recently has gone under new management and it has severely gone down hill. We have had multiple problems recently that I have looked past, but this past trip will be my last. I went in for a oil change and tire rotation. I had discussed that I had recently gotten a new car and the man at the front desk was able to get it change in the system. When I went to pick up my car there was no oil change sticker so I had to go back and ask for one. On my way home I noticed the mileage for my next oil change was totally off. Pulled up my receipt and turns out they had registered it to my last car. Then the next day I realize that they had not even rotated my tires at all as I had a tire that was significantly higher in tire pressure that has still in the same spot. I am so frustrated as I was charge almost $85 for this and they screwed up my oil change and didn't even bother to rotate my tires. I feel totally ripped off, such a waste of money. I'm not one to write reviews or complain but I feel stupid for getting so screwed over. read more
