The two stars are only for the fact that the carry the Zoya line of polish and the salon is very clean and tools are properly sanitized. The rest was bad, sub par! Where do I begin.. I chose a deluxe mani and pedi. Two people started working on me. The lady doing my hands never smiled. She was very serious and even somewhat upset. There was something wrong with the water jets in the tub; my feet got zapped (electric shock) twice! The first time I jerked off of my seat and they all started laughing at me. Then started speaking in their language and smirked and laughed some more. I told them what happened as I was concerned about the safety of that seat and they brushed it off and acted like it was just the water pressure from the jets. Strange... That had never happened to me before during the years of getting pedicures. A neck and leg massage is included in the deluxe package. The very serious woman only massaged my right shoulder and neck! She didnt even bother massaging the other side. The foot/leg massage was just a light touch foot rub while smearing lotion around! The paraffin wax had already started to solidify by the time my hands were put in them. The serious lady put in little effort to move it around and get wax to cover my hands. I had fingers that were left out side of the wax. I tried doing it myself but it was not easy when both hands were in bags! She saw me struggling to fix it but walked away. At some point The same lady started looking at my eyebrows and asked if I wanted to have them done. My eyebrows were just fine so I said "no thanks". She looked at them again and said "maybe clean up a little?!" Was she implying my eyebrows looked bad and needed work?? I don't understand why I was being pushed to get something else done to the point of insulting its current condition! Then came the putting on the Polish. I had picked the same color for hands and feet. They each grabbed a bottle of (supposedly) the same color I had picked so that they could paint simultaneously. I was sitting back and trying to relax when I noticed my toe color is different. I pointed it out and they started arguing that it was the same! I had to put my hands next to my toes for them to agree! They wiped my toe polish off and started from scratch; such a waste of time! The end product was nothing great... It was just ok. I paid $70 for this annoying and sub par service. I will NOT be returning.. Ever! read more

My friends and I stumbled upon this place when we were out at brunch on a Sunday in this area and wanted to get our nails done in the early afternoon. After calling around to multiple places that were either too booked, didn't have enough staff, or were closed, Maxim said they could accommodate the 4 of us as walk-ins. They greeted us as we came in and offered us drinks as we got situated in the back area in the pedi chairs. Felt they took the time with my nails and even though it's 5 days in for my shellac, it's looking pretty good! Were reasonably priced - for shellac mani/ regular pedi, it was roughly $50. FYI, if you check in on Yelp, they will NOT honor the deal you see (I think it was $10 off of $50). I tried and unfortunately it was something the old owner a couple years ago posted and the new owner can't figure out how to take it down. But really, the price here is comparable to others so no biggie. Since I work around the area, I'm tempted to try them out again during a weekday lunch because if I can get in and out during a short time frame like that, this might be my new go-to spot! read more

Maxim nails has been my go to salon ever since I moved the the Energy Corridor. They are open 7 days a week, and they are always well staffed so there's hardly ever a wait! They have an amazing selection of shellac colors, and if you want a pedi too, they will find a matching color for your toe nails! I am greeted every time I walk in the door, and the owner always offers something to drink. The nail techs here do a very good job. I don't think I've ever had issues here. If I notice anything wrong with my nails and point it out they will be happy to correct it. The ladies here are all very nice. This place isn't the cheapest salon you'll find, but you definitely notice the difference between this salon and other cheaper places. Overall while they didn't wow me, it was fine for the convenience and price I paid. Will i be back? Probably not. My search for a nail salon actually started this past weekend. Hoping to find a salon open on Sundays, I cruised up and down Eldridge as twilight fell on Saturday evening. Maxim Nails was already closed so I peered through the plate glass storefront hoping to divine some clues from the murky interior as to the type of establishment housed within. I wasn't able to tell much, but as I pressed my face against the glass I was approached by an Asian lady in a lab coat inquiring if she could help me. She explained that they were closed already(and closed on Sunday) but that if I came back Monday I could have my nails done. She told me a little about the salon, with most of her account devoted to the stringent sterilization processes they used. She also gave me a 15% off coupon. Darkness was falling quickly so I abandoned my search for the night with the intention of resuming it the next day. However, life interfered and Monday found me despairing over the condition of my feet. My prior pedicure had been over two months before and the polish looked like half-raised red blinds. The skin on my feet appeared as arid as it felt with my cracked heels resembling nothing so much as a sun-baked salt flat. It is safe to say that the condition of my feet was deplorable. Remembering my coupon, I arrived at Maxim near five p.m. As I approached, I thought it might have been closed as the salon was empty and all the lights in the front were turned off, but the door wasn't locked so I went in. I was greeted promptly and ushered to a massage chair in the back. I was relieved to see that the furnishings appeared to be clean and fairly new. Indeed, the spa chairs were of a nicer variety than most I have been in, with a padded pillow to rest one's head on and faux wood trimmings and side trays. The attendant drew hot water and added scented bath salts to the bubbling foot bath and I gratefully lowered my feet to soak. I was offered something to drink (sodas, water, etc.) and shown how to work the controls for the massage chair. As my back was percussed and kneaded, my cuticles were ministered to, the nails trimmed and shaped, and the skin exfoliated. The cleaning was followed by a moisturizing massage and I was encouraged to wear something besides jeans the next time so that the entire lower leg could be massaged. I brought my own polish (a shade I refer to as Harlot Red but is actually called The Thrill of Brazil) which was deftly applied, and soon my feet were looking less like those found on a Sasquatch and more like something I could slip into sandals without being embarrassed. During my pedicure two other ladies arrived to have pedicures, and we all had an amiable chat about mobile phones. The friendly conversation really enhanced the entire experience. (One of them did try the wine but opined that it had been left open too long. If you're interested in having wine while you have a pedicure, you might do well to BYOB.) All in all, it was a very pleasant experience and I would go there again. I felt that the pedicure could have been more thorough in certain areas - cuticle trimming, curetting under the nail and along the sides, exfoliating, and the price was a bit high($35) but the end result was more than satisfactory and my feet have never been softer. I would still like to find a salon that's open on Sundays since that usually seems to be my only free day but until I do, I'll be scheduling my Monday - Saturday free time here. This was my first mani and pedicure at maxim... so of all the nail spa's around...i thought maxim nails had better reviews...so i decided to go there... The ambience is good. -- Over the phone I was told a regular manicure and pedicure would be $30 but they charged me $40 -- Two ladies Helen and Joyce worked on my nails.( pseudo names, they are chinese) -- its difficult to convey what you want cos they don't understand english. -- when they ask u something u don't understand their language and they keep talking in their language and giggling and laughing looking at u ( feels like they are laughing on you ) -- i felt the ladies hurried up and completed the job...i didnt feel the skin was scrubbed off and cleaned well.. Overall an ok job..not so great....i am not going there for a second time for sure...there are about a dozen nail spa's about 5 miles radius around maxim...read your reviews and make a wise decision read more

I stopped in Maxim because I was in the area. The tech that did my pedicure was very thorough and professional. The facility was clean and very peaceful. Best of all, they have tons of polish colors to choose from. I don't live or work close by, so I won't be a regular. I moved away and after 3 years they still remember me. The staff is very friendly and excellent at taking off all of my callus and the paint always comes out beautiful. Great prices for mani and pedis. They really clean out all your cuticles and include shoulder, arms and leg massage unlike some of the other hyped up nail salons in the area. 10/14/2018. This was my first time in this salon. I stopped in because the first salon I stopped at was too busy and this was the closest. I waited about 15 minutes which was ok. Everything was ok up until she started cutting my cuticles and nails. She cut WAY too short. The next day I noticed my toe was kind of sore and took my shoe off to take a look. As I pressed on the corner of my toe, puss came out. My toe was infected. I will never return here and I hope if you are reading this review, you choose another salon. I've been getting pedicures for years and years and nothing like this has EVER happened to me. read more

I've had good experiences here before. However, the last time was awful and is worth getting the one star. The lady was not friendly and didn't cut and file my nails well at all. I asked for round and short and usually every manicurist can do that easily. I could have filed at cut my nails better. I could have even painted them better too. Finally I got my eyebrows done and the lady badly burned my face with the wax. This is not the first time this has happened here. After waiting, a couple (needless to say, not African American) came in at the last minute and were seated and serviced immediately upon their arrival. It has gone down in service a bit since the owner left, but it is still one of the cheapest Mani & Pedi's in the Energy Cooridor, the massage chairs are free to use and always work, and when you get your manicure, the neck massage is included.She did such a great job! So l recently got my nails done here, and my friend and I walk in and there's no other customers there. So they ask us what we are wanting to do and we chose a full set. So it literally takes us like 5 mins to get started. They were talking in their language about who knows what. My nail lady was very nice she offered my something to drink but besides that nothing else, no conversation, nothing. Other staff kept on looking and standing over my friend and I looking at what we were getting done, like if maybe they didn't have much experience? I don't know but I didn't really like that. So it comes to the time to pay and they say that our cards aren't going through. And we know there's money in them so why aren't they going thru? They didn't finish our full sets without us paying them first! That's very shady. Like wow! We had to go across the street to get some cash out of the bank so we can finish our nails. I was waiting for my nails to dry and I see what looks to be like a regular customer pay with the same blue chase card and HER card did go through. What kind of BS is that! I am so picky when it comes to nails and pedicure. I live on the north side but work in the energy corridor. I have been going to the same hole in the wall nail salon for my pedicures for 15yrs because they do an awesome job! I don't care for the frills, the massage, hot wax- I just want my ingrowns taken out and my feet scrubbed and polish applied on properly. Coming here was a FRESH breath of air and safety! I made an appointment and was taken in immediately. They have a million colors to choose from. The chairs were so comfortable and I almost fell asleep with the massage and music. The ladies were so nice and professional. I have never had an hour long pedicure that was not overpriced, unsatisfactory or left me with a reason to return. Ive spent time with probably every lady here, im always happy with my nails and service. Im a little more complicated than most ladies with my nails and tend to like them long and unique while trying to keep it classy but letting my personality shine too ! I wish there was a way to give zero stars because I would! I used to frequent Maxim when it was owned by Jen. When she sold it and left, I followed her to her new shop in Katy. Due to the flooding caused by Harvey both Jen's shop and my backup shop were closed (they both are in streets that are still flooded). I decided to go to maxim since I was familiar with the shop. When I arrived I picked out a color for my toes and told them I wanted a refill of my color powdered nails. I had two that had lifted and was expecting her to take those off. The first thing was they were low on the color powder I wanted that closely matched my nails. No biggie, I picked another color. Then, the lady doing my toes cut my toe nail so short without asking me how short I wanted them. Lastly, the lady who was doing my nails started by pulling off the part of my two nails that lifted,which I expected. What I did not expect was for her to FORCE the remaining 8 nails off my hands after she had cut them down to the length I wanted. When I asked her "why are you doing that" she told me "these are old nails" no they are not! They were 3 weeks old. While I understand 2 lifted, there was no reason to forcibly pull ALL 10 of my nails off. Because she had cut them and buffer them first, I had no choice but to allow her to finish pulling all my nails off. I told her to stop after that because I was not interested in anything else. Then she charged me for a take off I did not ask for! I was LIVID! The WORST experience at a nail shop ever! I will NEVER return. I'll stick with Jen where she goes or Venezia nails right down the street. read more

I have been coming to this salon since I moved to Houston in 2013. It was conveniently location in the Energy Corridor and was decently priced. Originally, this was my absolutely favorite salon that I had ever been too. I was always greeted by the same smiling faces, offered a drink, given the best service, and felt like they cared. In 2016, I moved closer to 610, and even though it was a small road trip to get out there I thought it was worth the drive. However, things were very different and I don't know when the change happened. The faces were no longer the same and the owner was no longer around. Now, there is a man running the front desk, with a terrible attitude, and also seems to micromanage the techs by standing over their shoulder while they work. TV's popped up in the pedi area and last time I went there was some safari video playing on YouTube showing a lion ripping another animal to pieces. I LOVED that there were no TV's in the pedi area previously so that I could relax....I cannot relax watching gory animals ripping eachother apart. To top all of it off, their quality in work went down. I don't know if it's the new techs themselves or their products or that they are not taking the time to do the work correctly. But I am very disappointed in the downturn of this salon. read more

This nail salon is trash!! Overpriced and there are multiple new nail techs in there every month. I came last week due to 2 nails breaking. I waited over an hour! Not only that, the nail tech came and started fixing my nail and she cut my finger. It hurt so bad and then she kept trying to file the spot she had just cut! Please save yourself the headache and go to Venetian Nail Salon next to Kroger or Venezia Nail salon. Also I think some of these techs do not have licenses! Very sad to see new owners have taken over. It's been happening slowly and every time I asked when Jen the owner was coming back I got some story about her back being injured and that she is in Viet Nam. I knew something was up when they hung TVs in the pedi area!! I believe the new owner is a man and that may explain the TVs. I loved going there because it was peaceful and quiet. I don't want to watch TV. The ladies do great pedicures but Jen was the only good nail person. Sad after many years I have to find a new pace. read more
