This French restaurant is definitely a local gem tucked inside Pike Place Market (the same corner as Market Spice) with a romantic/great view of the bay. A French friend of mine had visited this place before and recommended this place for a brunch get together...it was an awesome choice! The bread that they served was good. All 3 of us had some wine, soda and each of us ordered mussels, cooked in 3 different ways (each mussel dish came with a choice of fries or salad)...Honestly, I was debating whether to get Croque Madame..but I figured the mussels seem more difficult/sophisticated to cook (while anyone can just cook Croque Madame at home)...so I ended up going for the mussels, too. The mussels were YUMMMMMMMMM~~~~....The price tag was really reasonable, at $25 per person, excluding tips. Incredible food - great view - wonderful ambiance and service. How have I never been here until recently? Probably because I haven't noticed it in the corner of the market! There are signs up above if you're standing by the bronze pig by the flying fish, but otherwise this exquisite French restaurant is easy to miss with all of the other things around here distracting every which sense you have on heightened alert. I stopped by for dinner on a random Thursday evening with a friend and we had the most delightful meal with a view of the wheel and waterfront below. It was not crowded and our server was very attentive. We shared an appetizer of goat cheese and crostini and then each had an order of the scallops on pea purée and roasted cauliflower. This was the best meal I've had in a long time, from start to finish. Talk about underrated! I can't wait to drop in here in the future again. We went for a lunch reservation in one of the seasonal globes that they set up for a month. I heard about this experience through one of my coworkers that went and I am a sucker for a cute photo op. I don't eat a lot of French food here at home, but have traveled around Europe a couple times and have some sense of the cuisine. We all decided to try some of the garlic butter escargot and I actually quite enjoyed the famous dish! The steaks were tender and juicy, the salmon was fresh and vibrant, and even their tea set was luxurious. The setting was absolutely beautiful and cozy, perfect for a group of friends or a small celebration. Our server was incredibly polite, helpful, and did the absolute most to make sure we were happy. I've never eaten in the main dining room but plan to come back and see what their regular dining experience is like. However, the food was overpriced given the quality. It felt like we were paying for the view/location in addition to the food. But the experience was good. Also, two other members of my party and I got pretty intense stomach cramps after our meal (I think due to the amount of butter in the cooking). I know that's a staple of French food, but just make sure you're not sensitive to butter if dining here :) read more

This is becoming a favorite spot to visit whenever I am in Seattle. Most recently we dropped in for lunch which was pretty perfect. The day was stunning out so we ate outside which was lovely being able to eat staring at the sound like that. I had their salmon with an amazing wine sauce, peas, panchetta and perfection. I was more impressed with their creme brule than my husband but to be fair, his is better. I did have some escargot which was lovely... beautiful herbs and butter plus this touch of fennel. We ordered the Le Meal Bag: Duck a l'orange and it was sooo delicious! There were instructions included on how to prepare and re-heat the duck. And it came out PERFECT! The duck was so tender and juicy! I almost had to steal some of my boyfriends after finishing mines! The Le Meal Bag also came with a tomato bisque, a selection of 3 cheeses and a bottle of wine. All that for $90 is deals. I was a bit skeptical at first because, well, French food to-go did not sound as good as it being cooked, prepared and plated by a French chef in a French restaurant. What a wonderful place to start out our long weekend in Seattle. We came here for lunch and overall it was our favorite restaurant of our trip. What's the point of making a reservation for a birthday if you don't even bring out the birthday cake with a candle? I reserved online. I called to double check and then I called to TRIPLE check. You said that it would be noted On my reservation that I ordered a flourless cake with a candle brought out so the surprise would not be SPOILED In front of my bday guest. DUH. I even let it slide and payed the check then slipped away to have a word with the same French host who spoke to me on the phone TWICE and he couldn't take full responsibility or apologize. I even have the suspicious that because we don't look like we have money flowing out of our pockets they didn't care enough to execute a simple task. Not all wealthy folks are obvious. Oh the mussels! Penn Cove, in a garlic and butter broth. Add the side salad and half a baguette. While you're at it - have a glass of rose. This was actually enough food to share, certainly if you also wanted a bite of dessert. As I was alone, I ended up leaving many mussels and much yummy bread and butter on the table. It was a real pity too, because this was perfect. I'd been roaming the market all day, so I loved the chance to sit down and relax. I also have to say, if you like to have a cocktail or a glass of wine, it might be worth it to pop into the bar and have some kind of a drink, just so you can use the nice, private restroom upstairs, rather than having to brave the public restrooms. They were also very nice to me and they didn't have to be. I'd been kicking around all day and looked a bit rough. Arrived around 6:30 for Happy Hour last night. We actually had some difficulty finding the restaurant because we originally tried to go around near the Gum Wall, but the bright red neon signs above the market stalls helped us find it. The upper floor is such a lovely space - it's cozy and has a beautiful view. There was also a live singer, which added to the warmth of the place. A drink beverage per person is required to order HH food and my partner enjoyed his absinthe quite a bit. My glass of red was standard HH wine. Now, the food. Fries were incredible - they came out warm and with the perfect amount of garlic, like, lots of garlic. And I usually like my fries plain, but the dipping sauce (horseradish?) added to the overall flavor. We also ordered the angus sliders. Each order comes with 1 slider and a small salad with vinegar. The patty, cheese and romesco was delicious, but I wasn't feeling the brioche buns - they had obvious grill marks, but came cold, and fell apart due to the romesco. The baguette, which came with a plate of butter, also came to us cold. We had some difficulty spreading the butter but we ended up using most of the bread for the escargots anyway. I wish there was more garlic in the oil of the escargots; when we dipped the bread in, the ratio was a bit off for me, but my partner thought it was perfect. We both agreed the escargots themselves were cooked perfectly. After seeing so many reviews so critical of service, we didn't have high expectations. It felt slightly delayed only twice during our experience - when we first walked in and when we were finished eating, but neither felt excruciatingly slow. We appreciated that the waiter never interrupted conversation and answered any questions we had. All in all, a positive experience. We'll be back! read more

I booked an igloo, which is cute but unheated. They don't tell you it's unheated on the site and that you have to leave a window open. Well just booking is $60. It is a nice option, so I went with it for covid sanity. However, the server was terrible and the menu the same as it was six months ago. When asked to describe wine she gave us one description that was 'coca cola', one that was 'bubble gum'and then the third 'the least offensive of the three options'. We ordered that. It was pretty good bit isn't this a French restaurant with a somolie and good wine? Can't I have a decent date night with decent descriptions of the food, considering the outrageous price? She also came back at irregular times, ensuring we'd be putting masks on every 5 minutes and a few bites or sips into everything. The mussels were steamed in a light white wine broth and served in a pot. the light broth brought out the freshness of the mussels. The portion was actually pretty big! "You guys SCREWED me over HARD!" exclaimed our waiter when coming back with our receipts. Since we were a group of 7, we wrote out the total amount we wanted on each card on top of the receipt, with a total of 3 cards all stacked on top of each other into the card slot. Our waiter ran the total amount onto one card, then he canceled it when he realized there were multiple cards. Next, rather than running the values that we wanted, he evenly split the tab up. Granted, we need to take responsibility as we did not vocally explain to him what we wanted, but his response was completely rude and unprofessional. As somebody who has worked in a restaurant, undoing a transaction is not that big of a deal. Calm down, dude. His advice to us to avoid this issue in the future? "Don't hide your cards with an old man in the morning -- but it's okay I never work the mornings anyway." Well, if you found one card, then you really should have found them all and I don't think putting them into the credit card slot really constitutes "hiding." Originally, we had a waitress who was super energetic and bubbly with a nice French accent -- which I was excited (finally a good waitress!). After she took our drink and meal orders, then we got the older gentleman and she never came back. At the end of the day, I don't know who's screwing whom, but my meal should have came with a Creme Brulee since it was a set meal, but thanks to our waiter, I never received it and got attitude for free instead. read more

Spent another beautiful Sunday afternoon on the patio at Maximilien's and this time it was definitely worth 4 stars. - A dozen oysters for $17, simple, fresh and not very pricey - Raspberry sangria: so delicious I wish they would sell it by carafe - Clams in chorizo broth, steamed just right with that salty and spicy charm. - Bloody Mary: House spice blend with fresh dill, wich always reminds me of Russia. Since this is a French restaurant I would expect the following items to be perfect, but I think they still deserve a few accolades: - French 75 and Soupe à l'oignon - 5 stars. Food was great and the ambiance of the igloo was awesome. Unfortunately, our waitress and the very strict 90 minute policy ruined the experience for us. I appreciate the restaurant trying to get people in and out, especially during covid, but we were RUSHED through our entire time there and out waitress wasn't kind about it. Upon checking in, they let us know that the 90 minute time slot begins. And I am not kidding when I say our waitress reminded us of our time every 15 minutes - 60 minutes left, 45 minutes left, 30 minutes left - and we felt pressured into ordering without spending much time looking at the menu. Toward the end, she left our door open to let all of the cold air in and to ensure we were getting ready to leave. Again, I appreciate them moving people through, but when you book weeks in advance and pay a $20 deposit person, I think they could give you 2 hours and that the waitress could be nicer and more discrete about the time. They might as well have put a timer on our table. Unfortunately our experience was ruined because of that. Would return for the regular restaurant but not the igloo. Bummer! read more

I dunno, when I'm tooling around Seattle like a tourist, I want to experience some good food. I'm grateful we found Maximilien because honestly, this is probably the best French dining experience I've ever had. I'm not sure we would have found this if Jer didn't already know it was here. They were more than accommodating when we asked for a table out of the way and by the window. A perfect view of the Sound while enjoying this amazing dinner. My Alaskan Halibut a la Nage was perfectly done. Saffron and fennel poached wild Halibut, Yukon gold potatoes, sugar snaps, pea sprouts and cherry tomatoes. It was so delicately cooked as to be just rare without being undercooked. Absolute perfection. The accompanying vegetables and delicate white sauce were just perfect. My rose' went amazingly well with it. For dessert, we had a sampler of 5 things on the menu, from the creme' brulee to the flourless chocolate cake, which all came together very nicely with a couple cups of coffee. I have nothing but good to say about this experience, from our seating service, to the table, to the server, who was awesome, by the way. If you want to do French right and have a good time doing it, this is the place. read more

We were going to eat here with my family but unfortunately we were greeted extremely inappropriately. My mother went ahead of all of us to ask the host for the wait time to be seated, and he said that there was no wait time but since our full party wasn't present she had to wait in the back. This wasn't totally unreasonable but my mom described the interaction as extremely demeaning. Later when I arrived I was able to observe the way the host interacted with my mother myself, and I have to say it was definitely very inappropriate-- he ignored her at first, talked over her, and then when she told him that our party arrived, he actually raised his voice at her and said "I said they have to be RIGHT HERE." and motioned very aggressively to the counter. My mom is an immigrant with a thick accent and this is not an uncommon interaction we see between my parents and white people. He was speaking in a way that was definitely belittling her intelligence and I think this sort of conduct is extremely unfit for Seattle's pro-diversity values. I told the man that he was rude because he raised his voice at my mom and was talking to her like she's an idiot and then he told us "then I won't serve you don't eat here go eat somewhere else". Very low emotional maturity on this host's end as a normal person should just apologize and move on. The host was not wearing a name tag but he was an older man with white hair. Obviously we quickly left because we felt very unsafe because of this host and I hope the restaurant does something about this conduct which felt very xenophobic and racially motivated. read more

Our crew of 6 stopped in for drinks and to relax upstairs. The service was uncomfortably terrible. We are a pretty low maintenance group of young drinkers with simple tastes. Ordered a variety of drinks when finally asked and mostly kept to ourselves. The draught beer was great, exactly what we were looking for, and the cocktails were each more unique and delicious than the last but not enough so to merit this place a better rating. Basically the place was empty on a Saturday afternoon but it took staff 5min to even look at us, much less seat us. And there were staff everywhere. And there were open tables everywhere. We sit down and know what we want quickly but go to order and the servers walking by just ignore us. Finally order and get drinks but wanted to pay and leave and the server accused us of not making that clear. Just kind of uncomfortable...
