They have both indoor and outdoor seating and is a wonderful vibe especially during spring and summer. This bakery is located on East Roy in the Capitol Hill area and opens at 7AM. They also have a 2nd location in University Village that recently open this past Spring. This bakery serves up delicious pastries, breads, sandwiches, and desserts. I've tried numerous pastries from their line up. My favorites are their framboise croissant, chocolate hazelnut croissant, pain au chocolate, french toast, madeleines, sablés, and canelés. I've also tried their warmed up caprese sandwich and it did not disappoint. They sometimes sell Paysan Breton French butter for $9. I took one home along with one of their fresh baguettes. Delicious pastries in a cute, small shop! I got a Cannelé and a ham and bechamel croissant, which were both delicious! I was shopping at the U District farmer's market, and I couldn't resist the beautiful display of carbs at The French Guys stall. Kouign Amann ($6) - Hmm, these looked a bit suspicious and after examining them more closely, I'd say these particular pastries are a cross between a cinnamon roll and a croissant, more akin to a morning bun than a typical kouign amann. The pastry has very loosely rolled croissant dough which is doused in a sticky, stretchy caramel syrup. When I say sticky, I mean exceptionally sticky, even sticking to and tearing the wax covered paper bag it was placed in. The exterior areas not covered by the caramel have a bit of a dry, hard crisp. I don't believe the dough is laminated with sugar at all. Is this pastry tasty? Certainly. But is it a kouign amann? Emphatically no. (3/5) Almost Croissant ($6) - Tons of smooth almond frangipane fill the inside of the croisannt, giving a fragrant almond flavor. The exterior has a good caramelized flavor but there is essentially no crust and the flakiness is lacking. I wonder how many hours ago this pastry was baked. It does not feel fresh and instead seems to have some moisture buildup. It's a very sweet treat. (3/5) Baguette ($4) - The crust of this baguette is a bit weaker and soft, while the inside has an okay chew. There are larger holes so it's relatively airy. Flavor is mostly of the flour - the ferment time seems to be a little less than required to give a really complex flavor. It's just not that developed and kind of wan. It's better than a typical grocery store baguette, but really pales in comparison to many of the artisan bakeries in Seattle. (3/5) To be fair, everything was purchased at the farmers market, so the bread/pastries could have been stored in plastic containers or something to be shipped out from the baking facility. That might explain the issues with all of the crusts. I'll have to visit one of their actual bakeries and try to get fresh pastries. read more

I didn't think this place was as bad as everyone made it out to be. I really enjoy the vibes, decor, and quiet upstairs dining. If you're looking for a new place to work in U Village, this is the best. But the coffee is a bit pricey, and I've had it served lukewarm a few times. The pastries look delicious but every one I tried was just ok and tasted maybe a couple days old. Also, all of the workers act like they're tired of dealing with customers. I have not been to their Capitol Hill location, but I have tried a couple of their pastries as they have a stand at numerous farmers' markets in the Seattle area. This includes year-round locations like Ballard, U-District and West Seattle. Though I found them when shopping at the Issaquah Farmers Market. There is another bakery there that sells the same items like artisan breads and croissants, but the selection here is more traditional and authentically French. I tried two of the most complex and harder-to-find items that they sell, a canelé & kouign-amann, which are regional French pastries. Both of them were fantastic and reasonably priced for the quality and taste. Looking forward to the farmers market season so I can try more of their offerings. read more

We got caneles, a queen apple pastry, a plain croissant and they gave us a raspberry croissant to try which was super nice of them. I got the quiche lorraine ($8) which contained jambon and swiss cheese! They offered to heat it up and it was the perfect little breakfast treat. This place is a super cute spot, with really great decoration and theme. The service is always super nice and fast as well. We went here a little before 8 on a Thursday and it was pretty packed with people goin in and out and people just staying in to hang out. We ordered a savory sandwich that I think was called the Paris sandwich or something, the chocolate hazelnut eclair, the summer special drink: strawberry lemon fizz, and a mocha. Overall I thought everything was just alright, with the fizz being the best. This is my second time here and I did think the first time I went was better but I guess maybe we ordered better things. Not sure I'd go back as I know better bakeries in the area and my second time here lowered my opinion instead of heightening it. Sandwich - 5.5/10 I personally didn't like the pickles in it and thought it made it taste overly sour and made each bite too inconsistent. Besides that I thought it tastes just kind of plain, we had asked for it warmed up but the server warned us that if we did that then the greens on the sandwich would wilt so we followed his advice. In the end I wish we had got it warmed up so the warm cheese would add some more flavor. Wouldn't recommend.
