Sometimes a place that is considered "no frills" is what makes it great. Heartbrook Café is one of those places. It has some of the hardest working waitresses I've ever seen, which leads to the wonderful service. The breakfasts are delicious and plentiful. I ordered a side of corned beef hash, and it filled my plate. It looked like an actual entrée, and I wondered how much food you'd get if you ordered it. The biscuits for the biscuits and gravy are enormous! Tip: If you order b&g, you may want to order just one, unless you are really hungry. Every time I come here, it's extremely busy, too. Almost every time I visit my parents we stop by here for breakfast. The prices are reasonable for such big portions and the service has always been very friendly. It's a family run cafe; you can see almost everyone is related and that makes it a really heartwarming atmosphere. The cafe is generally a pretty busy location, but the serving time is reasonable, even for larger parties. I wouldn't consider it classy decoration; I'd say that's the only thing really lacking. It's a little strange located amongst other shopping center businesses, which I think is the real reason it isn't 5 star ambiance in appearance. Probably not a great first date location but I definitely recommend coming here with family for the tasty breakfast food, decent prices and smiles! read more

Classic greasy spoon with more character than George Webbs. The portions are BIG! We took about half our meal home on our first visit. The food is what you'd expect from a diner and service was attentive despite the fact that they were PACKED on a holiday weekend. To note: they have a liquor license, pull tabs (?), and add a surcharge if you pay by card, so best to bring cash. read more

I was looking for a breakfast place out in the country and I found this place in a strip mall so parking is plentiful. The place is dumpy looking with cheap tables and chairs and nothing to look at. The menu has most of the breakfast items that you would expect but the specials board was going to win today with the biscuits and gravy with two eggs. The service was wonderful with a couple servers taking car of me while I was having my breakfast. This place is all regulars who know everyone by name in the restaurant except for me. The biscuits and gravy looked amazing and they don't just spoon a little gravy on the top biscuit like some places do, they drown the whole plate with sausage gravy. My eggs were perfect sunny side up. The biscuits was two whole biscuits not one cut in half like some places do. The biscuit was the fresh made good kind with that home made taste. The sausage gravy was good with that nice creamy texture with plenty of sausage in it. Restaurants take note and see my pictures, this is how proper biscuits and sausage gravy is served you restaurants that cut one biscuit in half to look like two and skimpy gravy on top that doesn't drip down on to the plate. A hidden gem in the Lake Country area, Hartbrook Cafe hits a home run with us for after-church brunch. We've been a few times with the whole family and loved their breakfast and lunch options. We always go for the huge pancakes, which practically cover the whole plate. They're delicious and served with a smile from the always-friendly waitstaff. It's a diner style restaurant with mostly a seat yourself arrangement, but good luck finding one during the lunch rush. Arrived at 8am on a Sunday morning. It wasn't busy. We seated ourselves and were promptly approached by a very friendly server. Got our coffee really fast. Our food arrived in a reasonable time and wow the plates were overflowing! Potato's were fried perfectly but enough to feed 3 people. The corned beef hash was unfortunately from a can but they fried it to a nice crust. Everything was good but nothing special. The decor is pretty dingy and tacky. I love Hartbrook cafe! This is a no-frills diner that delivers all your favorite American breakfast staples. If you get Lauren you will have great service! She's very friendly and even caught an error in our order once because she remembers what we typically get. The prices are very affordable but the taste exceeds what you would expect from the reviews. Honestly, I was surprised to see this place rates as low as it was. We eat here every other weekend over the flashily brunch places in neighboring cities because we know the food is always going to be cooked exactly the same every time. They have never disappointed us yet. Only reason I didn't give this place a five was because I ate here once and got a different server who was not as great as Lauren. Excellent hometown cafe! The staff was super friendly and all worked together well. I never had an empty cup of coffee. Our food was classic country breakfast food, warm and buttery goodness. The pancakes are mammoth. The french toast was soft. The bacon melted in your mouth. And the country fried steak was crisp with a gravy that was smooth and creamy. I have long been a fan of HB. The food is great. However, after today, I'll never return. I get it that we're in a pandemic, and there is no order in place, but as a critical care nurse, I was appalled today as I walked in and saw more tables in this place than I've ever seen before. And only ONE employee had a mask on. YOU'RE MAKING FOOD AND GIVING IT TO PEOPLE. And the fact remains that we ARE in a pandemic. Order or no order, the responsible and safe thing to do would be to just make you're staff and those cooking and delivering food wear a mask. Fine. You got hit with a huge loss in revenue due to the pandemic and want to put more people in there to try and make it up. Maybe I could forgive that. But to allow your staff to not mask up is irresponsible, selfish, and rude. Stay out of here, because all they seem to be serving is COVID. read more

When seated for breakfast the waitress said it would be 45 minutes to get food. We were not in a hurry so we stayed and waited. Food was served in a hour, nothing special. Stopped here with the family last Sunday. Will never visit this place again. Walking in, the restaurant looked like an "after thought". Old furniture, chairs...duct tape on the booths. We sat down and the table was not clean, even though it had clean napkins and silverware. The high chair for my 1year old had old food on the seat. I ran to the car to get anti-bacterial wipes to clean things up. The food service was slow. Breakfast took over an hour and the restaurant was barely half full. My toast arrived BURNED. How can you look at black toast and say that it is OK to serve? My husbands french toast was DRENCHED in salted butter to the point that he could feel his arteries harden and blood pressure rise. My friend and I ordered eggs and toast and an omelet and waited over an hour to be served. They did warn us that it would be about a 40 minute wait for the food as it was a Sunday morning, but we ended up waiting about an hour and 10 minutes before our food came. We were here for breakfast. Our food was hot, quick and generous portions. There were no masks worn or hand sanitizer available. The young ladies serving were friendly. Our biggest complaint is the woman who appeared to be in charge-she spoke loud and went back and forth with an employee about money and tips. She ate, did paperwork, made calls(loudly) and then served food with no hand washing or hand sanitizer. This is unacceptable pre-Covid 19. I also don't want to have breakfast with her problems. I went to the HB Cafe by recommendation of a local business owner who raved how fantastic the food was there. I arrived at about 1:00 p.m. on Thursday last week. It's an old George Webb style restaurant. I sat at the counter and observed several teenagers laughing and goofing off in the kitchen. One was the waitress' daughter as she kept yelling, "mom" to her. The waitress was busy with another customer who called her over and asked, "How is Monkey Island" and pointed to the horse shoe shaped counter. The waitress was complaining about this and that to the other customer. She finally took a break and took my order; The "Special" turkey club with fries. I also ordered a cup of coffee. She went in the kitchen to give the order and the teenagers all were talking with her. She came back and poured my coffee and never said a word to me. She went back to the other customer at the counter that she had been gossiping with earlier and continued. Meanwhile, another customer came in and sat at the counter. After several minutes she stopped gossiping and being disgruntled and with a mad face and practically in tears took the man's order. She left again to the kitchen and the daughter continued to talk to her. She grabbed my order from the kitchen, brought it to me, and asked if I would like more coffee and I said yes. The club was on small white bread. Not the usually large white bread cut in fours with tooth picks. The bread was also burnt. I realized that I had been looking at the menu as I waited and it states "choice of bread". She never asked me for my choice. As I tasted the sandwich the turkey was slimy and smelly. The cole Slaw was also Old! It was wilted and slimy too. How do you wilt coleslaw? How old is this? My pickle was also rubbery and not fresh at all! Do they have cooler issues? Meanwhile the waitress went back to the gossiping customer and was getting loud and complaining. Meanwhile a teenage boy came up front from the kitchen came to get the soup kettles and the waitress said to him, "We are carrying that over. Put it back there because we are carrying that over." WHAT?? Not FRESH Soup? How long has it already been carried over? As I realized how spoiled my Turkey was I began to also realize this is why it is on the special; they were trying to get rid of it. With the tone of the waitress and the chaos with the gossiping customer and the laughing teenagers in back, I chose not to make a fuss. I removed my turkey from my sandwich and found it was so spoiled it had rotting holes in it. I set it on my plate and ate some the remaining bacon, lettuce, and tomato and my fries. The waitress came back to me and asked if I wanted a TO GO box. I said, "Absolutely Not" as I looked down at the rotten turkey on my plate. I did have a lot of fries left and my dog loves fries, so I changed my mind and said, "Wait. Sure, I'll take a box." She returned with the box and the bill. I placed only my fries in the box and left the rotten turkey, slimy coleslaw, and old pickle on the plate. My bill was $14!!! Do you know what kind of nice lunch I could have gotten for $14??? I paid the bill and went next door to the furniture store. Well, as I enter the store low and behold the other gossiping customer was a store sales person. She says,"Hi! Weren't you just next door eating?" I told her yes and she also went on as to what a great restaurant it is. I told her my experience and she seemed shocked. I am not sure why. It is a very low end restaurant. I don't understand the rave of it. I would expect 5 star quality and presentation the way everyone talks about this place but I am here to tell you even without my experience it is NOT anything to be raving about. Anyway, she says that she is good friends with the owners and that the lady/waitress she was talking to is the manager. She asked me if I minded if she called them to tell them what happened. She said surely if it was that bad they will definitely refund your money. I told her I didn't mind if she called but that I did not want anything. She called and spoke with the waitress/manager. With a look of shock she set the phone down. I asked what did she say and she said, "She told me it couldn't have been that bad because you ate it all AND took a to go box." SMH!! read more

I have mixed feelings on the breakfast we had here. The decor is very dated. A folding card table was amongst the seating options in the dining room. It started with us having to ask for new waters since both of our glasses has onion chuncks floating with the ice. I ordered eggs, sausage, and hashbrowns which were good. My fiance ordered corned beef hash that most definitely came from a can. It was gross. Ticket time was long considering it wasn't busy. We were by far the youngest ones in the place (60+yrs average). I've just read the previous reviews and I felt compelled to defend one of the best breakfast restaurants in the Lake Country. Just look at the crowds that flock to this place for breakfast!!! The eggs are cooked perfect and to order, but my favorite is the American Fries. They taste as if they were fried in butter and they fill your large plate with enough of them to satisfy all but the largest appetites. The atmosphere is typical for such a low cost breakfast and does not detract from my enjoyment whatsoever. Try it! You'll like it! read more

Listening to the waitresses talk about how drunk they're gonna get on the weekend was less than pleasant and they could definitely turn the heater up without any complaints from me. We recently had a fabulous breakfast to go. Great flavors in the omelet and just all around tasty food!

This is the second time we have had breakfast here where we have had a bad experience and the last time we will go. It took 20 minutes for the waitress to even take our drink order and another 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered. Additionally, there were groups waiting to be seated, but tables were not being cleared timely... the table next to us was dirty the entire time we were at the restaurant. Please go to Lumber Inn in Delafield instead. Better food and MUCH better service. read more
