I recently went to Maxine's on Shine for a brunch date, and it had been years since my last visit. My date made reservations, which I highly recommend because it does get busy. We got lucky and found street parking nearby, which was a plus. It was a hot day, so we chose to sit inside where they had a nice live performance going on the atmosphere was definitely a vibe. Our waiter, Steve, was great and attentive, starting us off with water right away. I ordered the Sangriato, which was pretty good. For food, my date ordered the steak & eggs and I went with the shrimp omelet, both served with potatoes and a biscuit. Unfortunately, my meal was just okay something about it didn't quite hit for me. On the other hand, my date enjoyed his meal enough to take the rest to go. Overall, the service and ambiance were really nice, but the food was a bit of a hit or miss for me this time around. read more

Yes, the parking situation is a situation in and of itself. If you have a reservation, definitely give yourself plenty of time to find parking or uber. This was my first time eating here for lunch/brunch. I ordered the steak and eggs and it was pretty good. I actually really like the fries here, as they are big and "potato-y" if that's a word?? I did taste my friend's lobster roll and it was pretty good. I like that it wasn't overly dressed. We had an seat at the front outside and it was a good weather day so we all enjoyed it. The service was pretty good when we went as well. They do have a decent menu and it is a fun place with a unique vibe. Definitely recommend you have a reservation. How cute is this place!! We were welcomed by 3 different employees as we were waiting to be seated. We sat at the bar where Ivy served me the most awesome Bloody Mary! Everyone was just soooo nice! Ivy, Tom and Steve (I took a picture of them that I wanted to post but apparently I didn't save it ~ sorry guys) especially had the best customer service! Oh yeah, it's a rather small space so making a reservation would be best. There was even a lady playing acoustic guitar. Parking was minimal so you may have to park a few streets over and walk. We recently went to Maxine's on Shine after hearing so many wonderful things about this hidden gem. It is beautifully decorated, and feature some artwork from local artists. The server was very attentive and gave great recommendations for food and drinks. We went for a bite 30 and the deal was amazing. The decor is really charming and fun, and with the beautiful weather we opted to sit outside. Our server was excellent. She was friendly, attentive, and made the experience more enjoyable. Most of the food was okay. I ordered the brisket with grits, which had okay flavor, but unfortunately the biscuit it came with was rock hard and not enjoyable. Went to Maxine's for brunch and had a good time. It was a slow Saturday, so even though we had some folks in our large party they were really cool about everything. I want to start by saying that our server Derick was great. He was very good at making the desired accommodations. One of the reasons that this review is a 4/5 stars is because the kitchen does not seem to be great at listening. Someone in our party ordered the veggie omelette without mushrooms, the kitchen made it with mushrooms, fortunately our server caught it and asked them to remake it immediately, so that Person's food didn't come out too much later. However, there was a different person who was supposed to get a seafood omelette, and the kitchen had made it with brisket instead. That individual's food took a bit to arrive. We also requested that the plain waffle that was ordered not have powdered sugar on it, but it still did. I ended up doing the chicken and waffles. Overall, it was good, but I did have one complaint. I saw that the entree was served with gravy, but I did not see expect the sausage gravy to be on top of the waffles, and since the waffles are sweeter than average, I just found that choice to be gross. The fried chicken with the gravy was very good though. When the server noticed I was not eating the waffle, he ended up bringing me a quarter of another one plain. The plain waffle was pretty good. I wish it was a little crispier, but that is just a personal preference. read more

Let me start by saying that if I could give more than five stars I would! I came here for brunch for my birthday last weekend and had the best time. We made a reservation well in advance and my group was seated in the private room in the back, which was really nice since there were 9 of us and it made it easier to talk and not have a lot of background noise. Our server, Steve, was really kind and patient with us and made great suggestions. A few of us ended up with the largest size mimosa I have ever seen, but for the price it was totally worth it! Food wise, I ordered the friend green tomatoes and the chicken and waffles. Both were so good, honestly no complaints. The restaurant's decor is very busy and eclectic, which could be good if you like that style, or not if you'd find it a bit overstimulating. The crab cake had very good flavor. I've had better escargot at other restaurants - it was nothing special here. The duck confit was delicious and perfectly crispy! The portion size was so filling and I really liked the goat cheese polenta! The mocktail I got was way too sweet and sour (thus, the Sour Patch Kid garnish), but still overkill for me. Update from my previous review: Their service is still excellent, and their décor remains eclectic. On this second visit, I sat near the back wall of the patio area and got to admire their Christmas decorations up close. There was even some fake snow. I tried the vegetable quiche Lorraine, which, while good, came in a very small portion. Their portions tend to be quite small, so keep that in mind when ordering an appetizer or entrée. Finally, the icing on the cake: we got to see Kurt perform (he recites poetry every once in a while, and boy, does he know how to entertain a crowd), and were delighted by Maxine's company at our table for a few minutes and her refreshingly unfiltered thoughts :) read more

Had a girls brunch at Maxine's and it was such a great time! The host and servers had such a bright and friendly personality! They have indoor, outdoor, and sidewalk seating for your choosing. Only complaint is that the goat cheese polenta was not warm/hot when it came out. I would've preferred it if the polenta had more butter and was more smooth and loose, rather than dense, but flavor was good. I would come back. It's nice to support a local restaurant. The outdoor seating allows furbabies, and I highly recommend you always make a reservation. The customer service here is great. The bartender and servers are nice and really take care of you. I went for brunch on a Saturday 11:30. We sat outside in the patio which was a really cute are and nice to sit if the weather permits. Since it was prime time the service was a little slow but not too horrible. I got the lobster eggs Benedict. Unfortunately my whole dish was cold. The eggs were hard and there was barely any lobster meat. I know lobster is expensive, but I felt it wasn't properly proportionate to the whole dish as it should. What a great experience I had at Maxine's!! It was my first time there but I will definitely be going back!! We were there to celebrate my friends birthday and they surprised us by putting us in a smaller back room so it was just us! But I loved the entire relaxed environment of this place. I wanted to get a bottle of champagne to share with the tables for mimosas, but then I discovered this size of mimosa they have called a quart. It's a whole bottle of champagne made in one glass into one mimosa meant for just one person. All their flavors looked great, but I opted for the seasonal mimosa (it was apple cider). It was perfect because it wasn't too sweet :) We were so hungry that we started eating before I could snap pictures of our dishes (rookie Yelp mistake). Although the pictures don't accurately show the portions because we ate some of it, I can guarantee you that we definitely had to bring home leftovers because it was a lot of food! The crab cakes in my eggs benedict were delicious and perfectly crispy. The eggs were poached perfectly also. My fiancé said his chicken and waffles were great as well! The staff were so friendly, funny, and kind. Our waitress gave us great suggestions. Also, one of the owner's came by to refill our waters and asked how everything was going with our brunch. We started discussing how my fiancé and I just got engaged, and he gave us the cutest story of how they were actually remarried in the restaurant! 10 out of 10 decor, vibes, staff, food, and mimosa! This is one of my favorite restaurants in central Florida. I've been coming for about two years now and it is my favorite place to bring a friend or family member that's visiting. The menu is super diverse and has something for everyone. There are great vegan and gluten free options. I make sure to visit every magical dining because they have the best menu and usually offer a wine pairing which just completes the experience. The decor is funky and eclectic and great representation of the owners who are usually on site and go table to table to really connect with their patrons. The owners and staff are some of the nicest people I have come across in service. They are so accommodating and make you feel like a welcomed guest. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are pet friendly. Parking is a pain on the weekends but there's plenty of street parking just be prepared to use your parallel skills. As you may have surmised from other reviews, parking is tricky--we did several laps and finally found a spot in residential territory. The service was unremarkable, good but nothing over the top. The food was also good but unremarkable--I had a lobster roll, and while it was good, there was a bit of shell in my sandwich, which sort of killed it for me. Someone in my party had a crab cake and their meal also had shell in it. As far as ambiance goes, it's a cute, kitschy vibe, the outdoor seating was nice, but overall the net experience was neutral, neutral positive. I attended one of the special event nights at Maxine's which are really a deal. $75 for 3 courses and includes the show. The restaurant was decorated for the mood with candles, strings of lights and decorations that set the dark Victorian mood. For one night only Phatasmagoria, professional actors, presented 'Poe, Thru The Tales Darkly.' I had seen this show advertised in Illinois and was thrilled that Maxine's brought the show to Orlando. I attended the second showing and Maxine is very efficient at organizing these events. After we sat down and ordered the show started and different Poe works were presented between courses. The staff provided excellent service and the show flowed smoothly. I had been to a vaudeville show at Maxine's but it has been some time and I forgot how much fun I have at their special events. The actors were excellent, stayed in character and you could clearly hear them and the special effects soundscape. I had the 'Don't Bogart the Salmon appetizer, 'Thee Meatloaf' that came with mashed and green beans and carrots and finally the 'Annabel Lee's Berries Romanoff' which was my favorite. Nestled in a residential neighborhood, this lively restaurant is full of personality and is a fantastic part of the community. We've come here for brunch and dinner, and the food always hits. On nice days, it's fun to sit outside to enjoy the Florida sun and air; on gloomier days, I love sitting indoors amid the art and vibey interior. I love getting the Chicken and Waffles or the Stout Braised Brisket for brunch; and I usually get the Chicken Parm or NY Strip for dinner. If you wanna try them for the first time, I recommend coming during Magical Dining or Bite30 as they usually participate and have a great deal. If you come with a larger group, they usually place you inside the chapel, which is a gothic and romantic monument to Maxine and Kirt's relationship. All the servers here are fantastic. Lots of personality -- very attentive and friendly. Parking is the biggest pain here. As you can see by my previous reviews, this is one of my favorite restaurants in town! A friend came in from out of town and I had to take him there. This was the first time I sat outside in the partially covered patio and I was impressed with the aesthetics of the area. This place always has a great eclectic vibe! We ordered the Chicken Maxine's and the Beef Lasagna, and like everything here I've tried, both dishes were amazing and exceptionally prepared. Shout outs to "Mr. Maxine" who came over to greet us (as Maxine was not here that night). He is a fun conversationalist and we enjoyed his banter. And last but never least, a No. 1 shout out to our exceptional server, Kathy. She's been with Maxine for a number of years. She only works Friday night dinners now, so if you are lucky enough to get seated in her section, then you are definitely "lucky enough". She knows her craft, her customers and can deliver the goods. This is a hidden gem of a place! It is a nice intimate restaurant that serves up some delicious food! We came with another couple for dinner. We did the magical dining. I picked the crab cake and fried green tomato as my starter. Now I am a lover of crab cakes and let me tell you this one is for sure in my top 3, and that is saying something. The fried tomato was also cooked perfectly. For my main dish I picked the 10 oz steak, cooked medium rare. The steak was perfectly cooked and tastes delicious. The green beans had a nice little crunch and the potatoes were fantastic. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin schnitzel and he said it was crispy and tender, he really liked it. So make sure you look for street parking around but not block the houses! Then we got lean into the restaurant, they have indoor and outdoor sitting areas. We opted for outdoor since it was a nice afternoon after rain. The receptionist and the servers are both very friendly and nice. We chose the magic dinning menu for our first time. The food is amazing! Appetizers are smoked salmon waffle and vegan nacho. They were so good. The vegan nacho is so big we almost cannot finished! Then we have chicken Milanese and steak poivre for main course. The steak is so juicy and tender. The asparagus is so big! Mashed potato is creamy. The chicken is yummy too !
