Came by here finally and really enjoyed the visit. The restaurant is so cozy and welcoming, and the staff are incredibly friendly. We started with the carpaccio which melted in your mouth and was simple but fresh. For mains we tried chicken Maxine's and the chicken parm. To be quite honest I felt the chicken Maxine's sauce to be a bit watery and not as creamy as I hoped. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy, but I think more some cheese to add saltiness and a thicker texture would do it well. As for the chicken parm, the cutlet was a bit soggy but nicely seasoned breading, and everything tasted extremely fresh and like it was made with love. Overall I'd love to come back for brunch or perhaps bite 30 just to try other dishes and enjoy the lovely atmosphere!
I recently went to Maxine's on Shine for a brunch date, and it had been years since my last visit. My date made reservations, which I highly recommend because it does get busy. We got lucky and found street parking nearby, which was a plus. It was a hot day, so we chose to sit inside where they had a nice live performance going on the atmosphere was definitely a vibe. Our waiter, Steve, was great and attentive, starting us off with water right away. I ordered the Sangriato, which was pretty good. For food, my date ordered the steak & eggs and I went with the shrimp omelet, both served with potatoes and a biscuit. Unfortunately, my meal was just okay something about it didn't quite hit for me. On the other hand, my date enjoyed his meal enough to take the rest to go. Overall, the service and ambiance were really nice, but the food was a bit of a hit or miss for me this time around.
We had reservations at 630 but I was hungry earlier so we popped in to see if they could accommodate us. It was a yes with a smile. This began a lovely evening for us. We were there for the Magical Dining and this restaurant did not disappoint. Each person on staff was friendly. Our server Myah was exceptionally friendly. She gave great descriptions of the specials. The manager stopped in and checked on everyone in the place and then the owner made his rounds. So friendly. The food was really good and the decor eclectic. We will definitely return to try their famous brunch.
This was a unique restaurant, definitely not some place you'd expect to find in Orlando. The decor was adorable, staff was friendly and the food was great. We came for Magical Dining and got to experience a variety of tasty items. I didn't love that majority of the seating was outside as it was quite warm and muggy. It is nice that it's a dog friendly patio as we definitely need more of those in central Florida! Street parking was ample considering it's Orlando. Can't wait to come back and try their brunch!
Wanted a memorable Anniversary dinner and we definitely got it at Maxine's on Shine. It is nestled in a residential neighborhood so parking during peak times can be a bit tricky. We did make a reservation and arrived shortly after they opened at 5pm. Our immediate feel was that we were entering a speakeasy. Cool decorations,intimate yet casual indoor/outdoor seating, private dining area in rear and plenty of staff. Tables and bar were starting to fill up for their happy hour. Mia our server made her introduction and took great care of us throughout. They had a three course magical special along with regular dinner menu. We started with libations then onto a caprese salad appetizer. Our entrees were Maxines Chicken and Pasta and Beef Lasagna (a recipe taken from the former Italian restaurant that occupied the same space). Both were delicious! We passed on dessert but one of the owners (Mr. Maxine) cane to our table and personally toasted us with a limerick and champagne. We truly welcome the opportunity to return with or without an occasion. Enjoy!
How cute is this place!! We were welcomed by 3 different employees as we were waiting to be seated. We sat at the bar where Ivy served me the most awesome Bloody Mary! Everyone was just soooo nice! Ivy, Tom and Steve (I took a picture of them that I wanted to post but apparently I didn't save it ~ sorry guys) especially had the best customer service! Oh yeah, it's a rather small space so making a reservation would be best. There was even a lady playing acoustic guitar. Parking was minimal so you may have to park a few streets over and walk. The home fries/potatoes were delicious so don't forget to grab a side of those.
We recently went to Maxine's on Shine after hearing so many wonderful things about this hidden gem. It is beautifully decorated, and feature some artwork from local artists. The server was very attentive and gave great recommendations for food and drinks. We went for a bite 30 and the deal was amazing. It was happy hour during that time as well and the five dollar sangria was a great way to start our evening. I chose to have the caprese salad, and the chicken Maxine's as my entree. Both were delicious and fresh. I cannot wait to return for brunch and the regular menu.
Fantastic experience. Maxine's has an eclectic vibe that is pretty cool. The service was excellent, our guy Derrick took great care of us. As for the food, the braised brisket was exceptional. It's an absolute must order and Maxine's is a must visit.
Celebrated my birthday with my family. Friendly staff, tasty food. We went early for brunch on a Sunday morning. Stout braised Brisket was the best item we ordered. The breakfast potatoes were great. Quiche was good. My son said the chicken was dry in his chicken & waffles. They did a champagne toast for me for my birthday that included a glass for my husband and a non alcoholic drink for my son. Go check it out.
Took a friend for her birthday. We opted into the Bite30 menu. I'm vegetarian and there were many great options. The food was so good & great portions. The hospitality from Maya and Mr. Maxine were top notch. Loved the home-y environment and the local art.
Went here for brunch and overall had a mixed experience. Just like many other reviews mention, parking is definitely a challenge, so plan ahead. The decor is really charming and fun, and with the beautiful weather we opted to sit outside. Our server was excellent. She was friendly, attentive, and made the experience more enjoyable. Most of the food was okay. I ordered the brisket with grits, which had okay flavor, but unfortunately the biscuit it came with was rock hard and not enjoyable. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles, which came with scrambled eggs and gravy on the chicken. Overall, a nice spot for the atmosphere and service, but a few inconsistencies with the food.
Went to Maxine's for brunch and had a good time. It was a slow Saturday, so even though we had some folks in our large party they were really cool about everything. I want to start by saying that our server Derick was great. He was very good at making the desired accommodations. One of the reasons that this review is a 4/5 stars is because the kitchen does not seem to be great at listening. Someone in our party ordered the veggie omelette without mushrooms, the kitchen made it with mushrooms, fortunately our server caught it and asked them to remake it immediately, so that Person's food didn't come out too much later. However, there was a different person who was supposed to get a seafood omelette, and the kitchen had made it with brisket instead. That individual's food took a bit to arrive. We also requested that the plain waffle that was ordered not have powdered sugar on it, but it still did. I ended up doing the chicken and waffles. Overall, it was good, but I did have one complaint. I saw that the entree was served with gravy, but I did not see expect the sausage gravy to be on top of the waffles, and since the waffles are sweeter than average, I just found that choice to be gross. The fried chicken with the gravy was very good though. When the server noticed I was not eating the waffle, he ended up bringing me a quarter of another one plain. The plain waffle was pretty good. I wish it was a little crispier, but that is just a personal preference.
Let me start by saying that if I could give more than five stars I would! I came here for brunch for my birthday last weekend and had the best time. We made a reservation well in advance and my group was seated in the private room in the back, which was really nice since there were 9 of us and it made it easier to talk and not have a lot of background noise. Our server, Steve, was really kind and patient with us and made great suggestions. A few of us ended up with the largest size mimosa I have ever seen, but for the price it was totally worth it! Food wise, I ordered the friend green tomatoes and the chicken and waffles. Both were so good, honestly no complaints. And then after all of us had finished our food, Kirt came back with a surprise birthday toast for me! Overall, everything was so amazing from the drinks, to the food, to the experience. I will definitely be back! Thank you for making my birthday so special :)
We finally made it to Maxine's On Shine for brunch and it did not disappoint!! The outdoor covered patio seating was so lovely on a Saturday morning and it was the perfect spot to start our weekend. For drinks we got a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa with Pineapple juice and they both were so delicious!! For our meals we each got an omelet and they came with potatoes and a biscuit. I did the Brie Shrimp and Bacon Omelet and it was amazing!!! The Brie was perfection. I cannot wait to come back and try more brunch items! read more
Maxine's on Shine was THEE perfect spot for brunch with the girls. The outdoor seating was comfortable and as the afternoon wore on, they brought it cooling fans which helped tremendously! I ordered the Chicken and Biscuits which had a southwestern flare to it. I also had the seasonal apple cider mimosa which tasted so refreshing. The service was 10/10 from the host to Maxine herself! Maxine's is one of my favorite spots in Orlando! The inside is eclectic and filled with art pieces, and they have great outdoor seating on their patio. I love going for brunch, since they have awesome prices on their mimosas, and all of their food is delicious. I got a vegetable omelette most recently with homefries, and it was a great portion sizes and so delicious. My service is always incredible at Maxine's, and Maxine herself is very sweet and an Orlando icon! read more

Biscuits and grave were amazing. We went for brunch and although they did have a full bar, I really wanted to start the day with a coffee drink and they sadly only had drip coffee so just a heads up. Mimosas it is! Definitely a cute place. Street parking, we'll be back. read more
We are not from Florida. When we come here for our Work conference, we make this a priority to eat here. It happens to always be my friend's birthday and we love to celebrate here. The food is divine, the owners are warm and welcoming, and treat you like family, and the place is just full of love and beauty. read more
As you can see by my previous reviews, this is one of my favorite restaurants in town! A friend came in from out of town and I had to take him there. This was the first time I sat outside in the partially covered patio and I was impressed with the aesthetics of the area. This place always has a great eclectic vibe! We ordered the Chicken Maxine's and the Beef Lasagna, and like everything here I've tried, both dishes were amazing and exceptionally prepared. Shout outs to "Mr. Maxine" who came over to greet us (as Maxine was not here that night). He is a fun conversationalist and we enjoyed his banter. And last but never least, a No. 1 shout out to our exceptional server, Kathy. She's been with Maxine for a number of years. She only works Friday night dinners now, so if you are lucky enough to get seated in her section, then you are definitely "lucky enough". She knows her craft, her customers and can deliver the goods. This is a hidden gem of a place! It is a nice intimate restaurant that serves up some delicious food! We came with another couple for dinner. We did the magical dining. I picked the crab cake and fried green tomato as my starter. Now I am a lover of crab cakes and let me tell you this one is for sure in my top 3, and that is saying something. The fried tomato was also cooked perfectly. For my main dish I picked the 10 oz steak, cooked medium rare. The steak was perfectly cooked and tastes delicious. The green beans had a nice little crunch and the potatoes were fantastic. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin schnitzel and he said it was crispy and tender, he really liked it. My dessert was the chocolate mousse and that was light and flavorful. The owners came around and talked with us and the service was amazing! read more
This place was so refreshing. The perfect balance of eclectic, warm prompt service and knockout food. I cant wait to go back. I loved seeing the owners walking around behind bar, talking to all the regulars. I plan to attend the murder mystery event next week. I got the NY strip 5/5 will get again. read more

Not sure how we managed never been here but we did. So we finally came for our first time and it is in a neighborhood, literally regular houses around this restaurant. So interesting. So make sure you look for street parking around but not block the houses! Then we got lean into the restaurant, they have indoor and outdoor sitting areas. We opted for outdoor since it was a nice afternoon after rain. The receptionist and the servers are both very friendly and nice. We chose the magic dinning menu for our first time. The food is amazing! Appetizers are smoked salmon waffle and vegan nacho. They were so good. The vegan nacho is so big we almost cannot finished! Then we have chicken Milanese and steak poivre for main course. The steak is so juicy and tender. The asparagus is so big! Mashed potato is creamy. The chicken is yummy too ! For desserts we have berry Romanoff and kahula chocolate mousse. The mousse is so creamy and silky. The berry tomanoff is yummy and light! read more

Wow!!! What a wonderful brunch at Maxine's on Shine this morning!! Could have stayed all day with bestie friends, amazingly delicious food, best Bloody Mary in Orlando and special visit by Maxine, husband and sweet doggie Lucinda!! You will know how every detail with food is perfection when you meet them!!! Friendly and proud !! Adds so much to the ambiance of this one of a kind dining venue!! For starters fried green tomatoes delicious, cinnamon rolls small, sweet and perfect for a sweet treat!! Now for mains Lobster Eggs Benefit outstanding with generous portion of lobster, eggs and topping the best anywhere!! A real treat!!! My friends Shrimp Omelet same goodness with plump fresh shrimp!! Waffle and bacon savory!! Now save up for their divine potatoes!! Small quartered crispy and salty on outside and soft on inside!! Honestly I could have eaten a whole plate of the potatoes!! I had heard about this place originally when my friends were discussing places that had good chicken parm. When I went there, I was in the mood for a burger. They didn't disappoint. Nice juicy burger with quality bacon, of course cheese and a fried egg. It also comes with bacon jam on it but I really couldn't detect and flavor of it, but it was my first time having bacon jam. It also comes with steak fries which are my personal preference. Definitely the best burger I've had in Florida (been here 8 years). On a side note, the second time I went I tried the chicken parm. The sauce was way too spicy for my personal taste. What I originally thought was a decent portion of chicken was a lot of melted cheese. It will be my go to burger place going forward. read more

Maxine on Shine is small but full of great vibes and personal service at its finest. All of the staff, including the owners, are wonderful and welcoming. We especially loved our goodbye greeting from one of the owners at the end--it made the experience feel so personal and special. The food and drinks are top-notch as well. Bite30 - my friend is in town so I thought we'd give Maxine's a try for the bite30. So glad we did! She has never been before so happy to introduce her. Our server was great! The thing I like about Maxine's is all of the servers seem to work together. No one minds answering questions or stopping to clear the table, even if it's not their own. We tried to bite 30 menu and everything was great except for the shrimp curry dish. It it was not of my liking because it was extremely salty in my opinion. Not sure what the crispy greens were that were on the dish because it doesn't show that in the picture that they have on social media. Wish the pineapple had been a little bit more ripe. Everything else was excellent. Can't say enough good things. It's fun inside and didn't get a chance but definitely some photo op walls outside in the dining courtyard! Highly recommend read more

It was my first trip to Maxine's and we had a great dinner. I ordered the Pork Schnitzel and it was divine! It came with a side of potato spatzel which was also delicious. It's a good size venue but always busy so I recommend making a reservation. read more
I am so happy to finally get to try this restaurant. It's situated in downtown Orlando around residential houses. My husband and I choose to eat outside and felt like we were eating at a relative's house. The atmosphere is so cozy and there is lots of funky art. The service was super friendly and there was additional wait staff to fill our water and clean up our plates, which was a nice touch. The food was fabulous. I ordered the pan seared Mahi with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and my husband ordered the burger with the egg and fries. My tastebuds were having a party in my mouth because everything was so delicious and well seasoned. They have some fun happy hour specials and Throwback Thursday specials we learned about while there, which makes me definitely want to return soon. read more

I cannot say enough about how fantastic this place is! Came here with a group of six for magical dining on a Friday night. We were sat promptly and had the privilege of sitting in the private dining room, which is a small chapel like room off the main dining area. It is so adorable and well decorated. The staff bent over backwards with kindness! Each staff member was nicer than the next. Our server was Steve And and he was fantastic, gave great menu recommendations, and was very attentive to us! Another standout was Brian, the "Waterboy" who, despite it being only his fourth day there, was incredibly professional And attentive! The food was phenomenal, we did not have anything we did not absolutely love! We had the best time, and ended up spending well over 2 hours just hanging out! We had such a great brunch at Maxine's on Shine! The decor is eclectic and artsy with a cozy, laid-back vibe that makes brunch feel extra special. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious and the chicken & waffles were amazing -- both definitely a must-try. I went with the pint of mimosas (so fun!) and my husband had the burger topped with a sunny side up egg, which he loved. The food was so good we completely forgot to stop and take pictures before digging in! Our server Steve took excellent care of us and made the experience even better. The ambiance of this place is amazing! The lights are pretty. Mr. Maxine came to our table and thanked us for bringing our good vibes to the restaurant and that that was far out! He was great. Some of the drinks come delivered on a tray with a tiara, which is cute. Chicken pimento sandwich was very good! Very quality. No honey mustard or ranch for French fries, but no big deal. The chicken Maxine was fine, but not as good as the sandwich. It's a cute little hidden gem in a neighborhood. It's all street parking, but plenty of it and a wide street so no risk for your car getting hit. Service was top notch, very attentive. It's pretty pricey, but not terrible. We returned to celebrate my wife's birthday 2nd year in a row and once again not disappointed. Well, disappointed that they had no caviar this year but still a great place to celebrate. My wife had the lamb chops and clearly loved them! She had them also the last time we were there. I had the Meat Lasagna again this time around and totally loved it. My brother in-law came with us and also had the lamb chops. They both had sangria. They brought my wife a piece of key lime pie for her birthday. Surprise, surprise Mr. Maxine came to our table with wine to host a salute to my wife. This is why we prefer a local business over a corporate run business. From the moment we arrived until we left to go home, the service and staff were excellent. Thank you Maxine's On Shine for making our evening memorable. I had heard so many amazing things about this place. I was very excited to have a nice Sunday brunch. Sadly, that was not the case. We were seated pretty quickly. After being seated for 20 minutes, we finally flagged someone down and asked if we could order drinks. After about 5 more minutes, our server finally greeted us and said no one had told her she was our server. We ordered drinks and the fried green tomato appetizer. Everything was pretty slow to come out but eventually got our drinks and appetizer. The flavor of the dish was good and so was the sauce that came with it. Sadly, the tomato was as hard as a rock. I love a firm tomato and hunt for them at the supermarket but this was so hard I could barely cut through it. Next I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich that came with a side of fries and had bacon and pimento cheese. I asked for them to leave of the bun. This dish definitely lacked flavor. The owner came over and introduced himself. He seemed friendly. When we were done we got our bills. There were 4 of us. 3 people paid with cards. I put cash down. The waitress came back with the receipts to sign and my change from the cash. I left her a 20 percent gratuity and left. A few minutes later I get a call from the restaurant that I had not paid my bill. Apparently, the server had not charged me for my meal. She just broke down my cash payment into smaller bills and I didn't count the change so I didn't realize she had not taken payment. I gave my card over the phone and was charged. I was pretty unhappy about my entire experience there and decided to call back and speak to the owner since he seemed friendly. I started to tell him what had happened and he cut me off and stated that he knew who I was and knew the situation and had already talked to the server about it. Nothing that I experienced today at this restaurant would draw me back. Very disappointing. read more
Ambiance is 5 stars I love the decor and the vibe. Service was great too since it was bit chilly outside they even turned a space heater on for me. The crab cake and green tomatoes were good as well. I made reservations for Maxine's on Shine for a party of 10 and they were able to accommodate us for an early morning slot as soon as they opened. I made sure that our party was on time. We immediately begin ordering since you only have an hour and a half to enjoy brunch under the reservation. I ordered a egg nog cocktail from the holiday menu . I then ordered the crab cakes which were a nice size and they were delicious. For my meal I ordered the breakfast burger which was huge and it came with fries . I asked for a sauce to dip my fries in and the waiter suggested the Jalapeño aioli sauce which was good. I didn't realize till I got the check that there was a charge for the sauce . If I would have known I would have kept the leftover sauce , it had already been thrown out . I took half of my burger to go because I was full. The customer service was awesome , we were seated in the private like seating area for larger parties and we really enjoyed being able to eat and enjoy time together and catch up. We didn't feel rushed at all while finishing up eating. The ambiance was unique and fun. The parking if not there early seems like it would be task to find street parking. We made a reservation for our anniversary dinner and I'm so glad we finally made it to this restaurant. Not only was the service AMAZING but the owner and her husband took time to welcome us and wish us a happy anniversary. They had plenty of local artwork featured which was very cool. The food was incredible too. Everything came out in a timely manner and freshly made. We also spoke to one of the chefs who told us more about each dish. All in all, you don't find restaurants like this anymore. Everyone made us feel so comfortable that we were happy to spend our money to support this restaurant. This is a hidden gem for sure. What a wonderful little spot. I love Maxine's on Shine SO much!!! If you are looking for a fun little spot with lots of warmth and quirky decor, you are sure to love this local favorite! The memu is the perfect size with really, delicious, creative food! It has that thoughtful comfort food feel that this southern food establishment truly understands. It was my birthday, and they delivered a complementary glass of Champagne. I don't particularly care for sparkling wine/champagne, but there's is SPECIAL. They add a dash of magic that makes it taste just wonderful!! If you like fun spots with great food where you're sure to get GREAT service and feel special - make a reservation today!!!! read more
