Meh..ordered the Southwestern Potatoes Verde which is different from the potatoes verde as the menu states it has chorizo.. sadly mine had no chorizo. This was a cute diner just a few minutes from Ben & Jerry's that is located just at the entrance to the town and only 1/4 mile off I-89. They serve breakfast and lunch with a large variety of menu items. There were 3 or 4 packed pages with items for lunch which was surprising. The service here is super friendly and it clear this is a popular local stop and a family owned diner. It has a lot of character with a great location s s plenty of parking. The seating inside was a little limited and by 10am they had a crowd outside waiting to get in (not surprised). The food was good and I really had no complaints other than compared to typical diners I've visited over the years, the prices were just a little high. It was about $16 for pancakes, bacon and a coffee (with tip) which isn't excessive but not a bargain. In any event, that wouldn't keep me from visiting again when I'm in the area and in fact, I'm looking forward to it. Enjoy! read more

Delicious egg Benedict and the sweet potato home fries are yummy. Also enjoyed the breakfast burrito but I substituted maple sausage for the chourico - so glad I did:). Pancakes are good but very thin if you like them that way. Staff was very friendly but be careful if you pay in cash because they will keep your coin change if you don't ask for it back - they give your change in bills but keep the coins so you don't really get all your change back (happened to us twice). We will definitely come back because the food is that good but will use credit card from now on. read more

My family and I were visiting the Ben and Jerry Factory and were looking for a local place for a late lunch. We showed up at 2:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and asked if they wanted to seat us as it close to closing time. They said sure, I asked again and they said no problem. Glad they did because we had a great visit. Loved the Cider vinaigrette dressing and the Maple vinaigrette dressing. I had the Cuban, my wife got the tuna half sandwich and tomato basil soup and my daughter got the turkey. All the sandwiches were very very good. We did not get dessert since it was so late. It's not cool trying to get food twice in two weeks and not getting seated due to lack of attention by the restaurant's staff. Two weeks ago, we tried to grab breakfast around 11:30 on a Saturday. The restaurant had a few tables seated, but no staff was in the dining room or behind the bar. There was a bunch of laughing from behind the kitchen door. We waited for ten minutes and were starting to leave when a cook popped his head out to say someone would be out in a few minutes. We didn't wait. Today, I waited for ten minutes while three waitstaff and a busboy passed by the entry at least six times. The restaurant was busy, but it wasn't slammed. Each time someone passed, they looked and saw I was there, but they didn't acknowledge me otherwise. I wasn't looking for a repeat, so I left again. If you can get seated, get the potato verde. The food isn't so good that it's worth the wait, though, and the service once you're in is hit or miss. Avoid the teenage and twenty-something waitresses if you can; they're usually the ones at this restaurant who could care less whether you're there. read more

I can't believe the number of times we've driven by this place and not given it a second look. After all, there are plenty of cool spots in Waterbury/Stowe area, and Maxi's sits amongst gas stations and convenience stores. I never realized it was a "real" restaurant. The decor is minimal. Perfect for a ski-trip stopover. The dining room is pretty good sized, and there is a long bar featuring some a few excellent local brews (and the old standards). It was the menu that surprised us. We just wanted some take-out on a busy night when no one else would accommodate, but Maxi's was friendly and happy to serve us. That's when it became difficult. Too many good choices, including a couple of delicious-sounding specials. Inasmuch as that closing time was approaching, I was focused on making it not complicated, but there were many items on the menu that went way above and beyond the idea of the pub food which we expected. Had breakfast here this morning and I highly recommend this restaurant. Had my husband and I eaten breakfast at the Inn where were are staying, it would have cost us approximately $19 apiece ($38) for the same thing that we got at Maxie's for $28 (for 2) and I'm sure that it wouldn't have been as delicious The home fries were nice and crunchy and the breakfast came with a freshly made biscuit. The server was very sweet and pleasant. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 is because it took quite some time for the food to be served. In any case, it was worth it. read more
