    Cradle Cake

We went here for dinner on our first night in Stowe and it did not disappoint. We tried the deviled eggs, pimento artichoke dip, and the caesar salad. All appetizers were phenomenal! For entrees I had the patty melt (which was so good I forgot to take a photo). And dessert was the unparalleled cradle cake. All the food was absolutely amazing! You can tell the chef and owners care about food preparation, presentation, taste, and experience. We ended up visiting Barbarian a few times during our visit and went back for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, their bruleed oatmeal came with beautiful and tasty fresh berries and a side of steamed oatmilk. It was delicious! Their pancakes were some of the best I've had and came with famous Vermont maple syrup. I would definitely recommend going to Barbarian for breakfast and dinner. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, it was all amazing!

Barbarian is one of Stowe's newest restaurants, opening in 2026 in the former Skinny Pancake space on Mountain Road. It serves breakfast (open early!) and dinner with a chef-driven take on classic American comfort food. The restaurant was created by husband-and-wife chefs Matthew and Michelle Merrifield, who previously worked in well regarded kitchens in California, New Orleans, and Vermont. It's a good choice if you want creative food that's less formal than fine dining but more ambitious than a typical diner.

Pork Belly, braised pinto beans, pickled green beans.

Outstanding meal and a must go to. Have been to Stowe probably 4 times over the past 8 years (have hit all the usual restaurants at some point) and these were two of the best plates of food we have had in Stowe/Waterbury. Our understanding is that it's pretty new, but really hope it does well and is here next time we come back. We had the Roasted Cauliflower and Pork Belly entrees. Both were incredibly well conceived and cooked. Great combination of flavors and textures. Portion sizes were good and the food was light. Service was really good as well. Will be our first meal back next time.

We were able to get reservations for a Saturday night which made me a little nervous, but Barbarian didn't disappoint!

After doing some research on coffee near our Airbnb, we decided to stop here and are so happy we…read moredid. We wound up coming here all 3 days during our stay and everything was amazing. I got the Snack Shack iced (Maple Custard latte) all 3 times and it was amazing. I love trying fun flavored coffees and this was one of the best I have had. Sweet enough, but not overpowering. My husband tried the cold brew and a Cherry Dream pour over (iced) and he thought both were great as well (he is also much more knowledgeable and particular about coffee). I also loved that all the food and baked goods were gluten free! The biscuits used for the egg sandwiches were awesome (my husband is not gf and he even enjoyed). We also tried a maple cream cheese cookie, chocolate chip cookie, s'mores biscuit, pb and jelly cookie and all were amazing for being gf (we took a banana biscuit and double chocolate chip cookie home to try later). Everything had a good texture (which is rare for gf) and everything was super fresh as well. Staff was very friendly and helpful and while the place is small, it had a very cool vibe where you could enjoy your coffee inside or sit outside at the picnic tables on a nice day. We will definitely be back next time we come to Stowe!
