The service it took awhile before the water came to our table, the ambiance was good. The food was terrible I asked the waiter if the chili verde was really spicy and he said not at all, the reason why is I can't eat real spicy food. Solid Mexican food. I had carnitas and the portion was huge. As for this review, it's all about the water service. The water had to be asked for it was not dropped as we sat. They give an incredibly sized plastic cup full of ice water and in all honesty I did not even finish it throughout the meal. They never did top off the cup despite being halfway or lower. However, because I didn't need a refill thanks to the mammoth of a cup it was, I'm actually ok with this. 2.5/5 but gets the 3 on the review for adequate portioning! read more

We have been going for years! Martha and staff are the best. The menudo is the best in the SGV. My wife and I go to for mexican food. The staff is super attentive to your needs and service. THIS IS ONLY FOR THE TAKEOUT (catering) This Mother's Day my family ordered two items form their catering menu way ahead of time (Fajitas de res & carnitas). We went to pick up our food at the schedule time which they deliver in about 15-20 minutes. 1) There was one waiter holding Two large catering-aluminum pans on the same tray. One of the pans was dripping broth and there was much it on the tray that the waiter was holding. He expected us to just put hat broth dripping pan inside our car trunk. Hopefully, we had trash bags that we use to prevent any spillage inside the car. If they are offering catering food, management needs to do a better job at packing the food correctly (not the waiters fault). 2) food quality: Fajitas: rated 7/10 Carnitas: rated 1/10 First, I wish I had taken pictures of this dish. For those of you that cook, imagine opening the oven and taking the pork meat out to shred. Those chunks of pork-Meat it's what was handed to us. Nothing that look like carnitas. No flavor and to top it off, the meat was tough. Big disappointment for our guests. I understand that it was Mother's Day and they were super busy. If they can't provide the right food for a catering order, they should consider not offering this service for specific holiday. read more

AMAZING CHIPS & GUAC!! Atmosphere: This place is decorated kinda like a chill fiesta lol. It's very quiet and chill on the outside and could be a perfect place to either hang with the family or catch up with friends! Staff: The staff were super nice and came to check up on us and made sure the food was to our liking. Food: The CHIPS and GUACAMOLE were so good. I ate so much of it, I almost had no room left for the main course. I blame my avocado addiction. The stuffed peppers were a huge portion and I got to take half of it to go for dinner. This is one of our favorite Mexican Restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley. It has a good selection and prices are really reasonable, especially for a family. The portions are also huge (at least for me). One order would mean two meals for me. Also, you can't go wrong with the chips and salsa. Their salsa has fresh tomatoes with onions, which I like compares to the red/ green salsa or canned tomatoes served at other places. I had a weird mixed experience at Max's. At first I thought my review was simple, just have to say the service and people are better than the food. But it turned into "too much of a good thing", because due to the two or three waitresses constantly switching off with asking if everything was okay and taking my food and drink orders, my bill got all bollocks up. One waitress brought me a large water with a straw. that was all I had to drink, the other waitress added a soda to my bill. They fixed it. It was my first time here and I ordered what I always do when trying a new Mexican place, a la carte chile relleno, and carnitas taco. The plate looked absolutely beautiful and amazing, I should have taken a picture. But I bit into the carnitas first and just about ruined my appetite. I hate when carnitas tastes more like chichirones. I do like a crispy edge on the meat. but the first 3 bites I took were a crispy edge on a glob of fat. I know it can happen and I wasn't deliberately served bad carnitas. But it was the second worst I ever had. So I didn't even eat the rest of the taco, which came with some guac and generous lettuce and tomato. I ate the chili relleno while it was hot. I commented to the waitress about the carnitas and she asked if I wanted something else. I said no I'll just have my bill and take this with me, maybe I can fix it up at home with my own salsa. and trimming the meat, maybe there's some good meat in there. So she brought me a box and I put it in because they weren't going to take the taco off the bill anyway so I just thought I will take it home, maybe it will taste better when I reheat it. Then I made the same comment about the carnitas to the other waitress and asked if the manager or owner was there so I could say something about the meat I received. She said no they're not here and proceeded to grab the box off the table and go throw it away. At least I think that's what she did, she never brought it back. So then the other waitress brought me my fixed bill with soda taken off and I said well I don't know what is happening but now you have to take the taco off my bill because the other waitress took it away from me. This time she went to fix the bill but it was still wrong as they only took off 35¢ents for the $5.25 taco. So they fixed it again and gave me a credit on my card. I had to put my tip in cash, which they probably prefer anyway, because the bill now didn't reflect that all I got was a Chile relleno. So I called her attention to the fact that I WAS leaving about 24-5% tip but on the smaller amount that doesn't match what the bill says. She said that's fine. But I wondered what should I leave them? It wasn't the waitresses fault the meat was bad. They did their job. Should I leave a tip for 2 people instead of for 1? Then again, it didn't work out great for me for having more than 1. It was a chaotic experience with bad meat and almost too good of service. That's all I can say. Too many cooks spoil the broth. As a Mexican born and raised in Mexico, I have to say I was impressed with the authenticity of the food and the traditional friendly service at Max's. I ordered the costillitas and couldn't have been more glad that I did. The sauce in the costillitas plate reminded me of the one my grandmother used to make in Jalisco. The meat was exquisitely cooked to the point of breaking at the touch of the fork; something difficult to do with pork. The nopalitos and diced potatoes in the dish were just the right amount to create a pleasant texture. All in all, this was one of tastiest and most authentic Mexican dishes I've tried in the U.S. (and let me tell you, I've been all over the country!) Martha, the owner, treated me to classic, friendly Mexican service from the moment she welcomed me at the door. This is a lot to say considering the place was packed! The tasty food and genuine good ol' Mexican customer service definitely made me want to go back and try the rest of their menu! read more

When I received my meal I asked for more sour cream the waitress forgot and when she came by my table she was oh sour cream right did you still want it I said yes . When she returned to my table I didn't realize that she brought cream cheese instead of sour cream when I pushed my dish aside because I had put it all over she asked is everything ok . I told her no I was brought cream cheese instead of sour cream and it ruined my food . The waitress said no that's sour cream I said no I know the difference she took my plate away and yet has to apologize for it or even make it right this is why I am leaving this review .. and I don't like leaving reviews unless I can put a positive review .. read more

The service is not bad they have a lot of staff (for no apparent reason) the food is mediocre and you might get soft as seasoning at best and the sauce is very watery and just garbage. However, if you just want to get drunk that's probably the only way you will be able to enjoy your food and it is not traditional Mexican food. read more
