If you plan to dine at Max's, come early to beat the wait. There is usually a long queue during the weekend lunch hour. Valet parking is available, but you also have the option to find street parking or parking at the Glendale Galleria across the street. Not sure why the reviews are that great we arrived maybe 2 hours before closing and waited about 30 mins to be sat which wasn't bad given how many people were there when we arrived (they did have outside seating with zero wait but it was a little chilly). I haven't been here for YEARS, and I had a craving for their famous chicken. Met up with my cousin here for lunch and went for the bird, their pork sinigang and lumpia. It's just like I remember it. That chicken was fantastic! The sinigang was just the right amount of sour and their lumpia is still as good as ever. My cousin also had the pandan and that was gone in two minutes. She and I food coma'd right after, and it was so damn worth it!!!! Valet parking is at $2.50 (although I'm not sure if they should call it that since we parked our cars ourselves.) After the Christmas shopping madness at the Glendale Galleria, I finally found an excuse to go to Max's. Everyone who knows about this place has been telling me to get the fried chicken. I was disappointed. Luckily, the bf and I ordered other dishes...some that shined and others that didn't. Lumpia Shanghai: Meh. I've had better. The bf enjoyed it. I didn't. The sauce was wrong, the meat was bland. The presentation was great. 1/2 fried chicken: Meh. Some pieces were dry. Some pieces were better. But it didn't live up to the hype. I will blame my grandmother for this...she makes a better fried chicken. Garlic Fried Rice: GREAT! Absolutely loved it. Hit all the flavors I anticipated and drew memories of home. Loved it! Pork Adobo: AWESOME! Served with tomatoes and onions. The adobo, tomatoes, onions combined with the garlic rice really was a delight. Will definitely skip the chicken and come back for the adobo and garlic rice again. Service: GREAT! Very friendly and put up with my American accent (I usually get snarls being that I don't speak the language, but they were very nice). Presentation: GREAT! Everything served looked awesome and plated aesthetically which is a true rarity in Filipino restaurants. I really appreciated it. Parking: Valet/Self Parking with a $2.50 fee. I am sure during non-holiday shopping rushes, this place has better street parking. Overall, I am happy I found this place and look forward to coming back whenever I'm back in town or have a craving for some garlic rice and adobo. The whole experience at Max's isn't the same anymore. Visited on a Sunday, lunchtime, so I was prepared for a wait. Music is a little too loud for my liking. It's as if they want the music to be heard over the conversations at the table. It was a short wait time between arrival and being seated. However, it was a long wait to be acknowledged by our server (7 minutes) and even be asked for our drinks orders then another long wait (11 minutes) for our water to come. Yes, I was watching the time. It took a while for our food to come out: daing na bangus, sinigang, bistek, whole fried chicken, steamed rice and sisig. Meanwhile, the table next to us who was seated while we were waiting for our water was already served their food. I would have asked our server about our order but he was nowhere to be seen. The food still tasted good, however, portions are considerably smaller and works out to be pretty expensive. At least the fried chicken is no longer frozen in the middle like we were served a few years ago! For the same price, we would normally have leftovers at other Filipino restaurants (Barrio Fiesta, Salo-Salo, Noypitz, Kusina Filipina). BTW, it's not just the Glendale branch. The Mira Mesa branch also has small servings. One order of bistek cannot be shared among a family of four. Parking... I need disabled parking. There are only 2 spots on site, one of which was occupied by a valet attendant. (We saw him get in the car as we were leaving the mall parking.) They force you to use valet parking and that's against ADA; Max's management needs to have a conversation with the parking company regarding this issue. Restroom is relatively cleaner than other Pinoy restaurants but still not spic and span as expected from a restaurant. There's a sticky feel to the floor and it doesn't appear to be checked on frequently enough through the day. Overall, I would go back for nostalgia but would recommend other Filipino restaurants over Max's. read more

My partner loves this place so we decided to come here instead of Buffalo Wild Wings lol. The interior was updated recently I believe? It seems so much more modern and bright. We ordered the half fried chicken and Palabok. The fried chicken is bomb, especially the skin. It's so crispy!! There's a couple of fries that it comes with and a slice of orange lol. Palabok was spot on too. The servers were all really nice and friendly. They have limited parking. Parking is valet only on the weekends. Park at the Americana if you can't find parking there. I was shook when he said to please return all the sinigang we have in our individual bowls back into the serving bowl. This place got renovated and it looks so good and modern, it looks cleaner and bigger. I came here for a private party on a Sunday and they only had valet parking which was $3, on the weekdays and non-busy hours I was able to park my car and there was no valet. Came in and saw that there was a lot of people waiting to get seated at around 1 pm. Good Filipino food here. I tried the Lumpiang Shanghai (eggrolls) they were just ok, I prefer more filling. Their Lechon Kawali (fried pork) was good especially with the sauce they provide. The pancit was alright nothing special about it. The Kare Kare was probably one of my favorites it had really good peanut sauce and it was perfect with the shrimp paste. Max's is known for their chicken which has thin skin and juicy meat. They served us with ice cream and macapuno which was perfect to end the meal, although I prefer to have their caramel bars which are so good. Having a private party here is great. Food is served buffet style and they allowed us to take leftover food home. They had a program so that people would participate in games and karaoke. Hostess made a big(ish) deal about not putting our 1 year old son on the waitlist. I put 2 guests and when she saw that we had our son with us, she told us that next time put him as a third guest. She said it to my bf like 3 times, reiterating it again and again. Why was that a big deal? He sits on a highchair. If they needed to move us to a smaller table that would've been fine too because he doesn't need a regular chair. That was a total turn off. Food was decent, not something we went crazy about. They don't really have good vegetarian options besides the sizzling tofu. We asked for a veggie sinigang and we were still charged full price of $13.99 (same as pork sinigang). During this quarantine times, we wanted to support local restaurants and ordered via phone. What we ordered was lechon sisig, 1 whole chicken and a crispy pata large. The chicken size and quality was excellent but what I'm complaining about was their "large" crispy pata which is so small and is certainly a "Rip Off" for the size and price compared to the size they serve when you dine-in. Also, the sisig did not have any sauce and too bland. I can't believe how such prominent Filipino restaurant could rip you off when ordering for take-out. They can really take advantage of you and by the time you notice it and check it at home, it's already too late and you have no choice but to just settle for less than you expected and paid. I went with my family and there was more than enough food (lots of leftovers to take home). The service could have been better, it took a while to get the server's attention. Parking is very small and busy during popular hours. Highly recommend reserving your spot in yelp because that's how they do reservations once you enter. Got here at 6:45pm and our wait was more than an hour long. Everything was going well and chicken is always great , however we ordered the kaldereta and there was only FIVE pieces of meat. My parents requested to talk to the manager and Nez came to the table to talk to us. My parents have been here multiple times and they changed the style of their food which is understandable but the quality of the food is upsetting. Nez approached us arguing saying that this has always been how it is and we were telling her how many pieces of meat were in the plate. My dad then asked if we can not have this plate no more because it's not worth the price and she was not cooperating as a manager. Then she pointed at my little sisters plate and said "look she still has a piece of meat" implying that she wanted us to put it back on the plate and we complied and she just walked away. This is the worst customer service I have ever received from a manager. Our waiter Ramir is great and respectful and I appreciate him coming back and saying "Would you guys like anything else in exchange." I am giving this Resturant a one star review so the owners can see this review and fix this customer service issue. It's unfortunate for this to happen to my family. Max is a nostalgic restaurant for both of my parents because it reminds them of the Philippines and when they first started dating. It has quickly became a family favorite. Some of the staple dishes we order are the fried chicken, pancit canyon, and chicken skin. These three dishes are superior and never disappoint. Every time we eat there these dishes are perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Other dishes we ordered this night include the chopsuey and beef sinigang. The chopsuey was delicious but had a lot of a thick sauce i was not a fan of. If you know what the Filipino magic sarap seasoning is it tasted very similar to that. Beef sinigang is one of my all time favorite Filipino dishes, but when we ordered it here it was very salty and was not sour enough. The soup was even very pricy for $25 a bowl. I do not think I'll order the soup again and though i didn't enjoy the chopsuey much, my parents did. Lastly, the employees were not very pleasant. I am unsure if it is the management or just the employees in general, but i have heard from reliable family and friends that there is an issue of discrimination at this particular location. There have been instances of ignoring my uncle who is not Filipino each time he goes to this restaurant. In my experience, even as a young, Filipino woman I have found that the employees are not very helpful and always seem like they're in a hurry. I give my 100th review in 2017 to my favorite Filipino restaurant in Los Angeles. The best things to order here are the pancit canton, lumpia shanghai, beef steak, garlic rice and fried chicken. I suggest skipping a meal before your visit, because the food is quite heavy. Nothing is more comforting to me than traditional Filipino food and Max's does it well. Everything is freshly prepared, so you can make modifications to most of the dishes. Another thing I appreciate at Max's is their consistency. They prepare high quality meals each and every time you visit. Prices are reasonable, especially for the large portions. They handle large parties quite well. The fried chicken and crispy pata were seasoned very well with a delightful, light crunch. The fried chicken went really well with banana ketchup, and a bit of dark vinegar took the crispy pata over the top. The vinegar/fried pork combo reminded me of the classic North Carolina pig pickins I grew up with. We were already stuffed, but we decided to keep going with halo halo and buko pandan.
